Introduction
Others believe that it will end far beyond any of our lifetimes, sometime far in the future, billions of years away.
Still others may even think that it will end tomorrow.
The reality? The world as we knew it ended on a Thursday.
It wasn't as if everyone was unprepared, however. Scientists had predicted the spread of an extremely fast-acting and deadly virus, the likes of which have never been experienced by humanity. They had no immunity to it, and it was spreading like wildfire.
In the midwest, people had warning. Many people stocked up on supplies, prepared to hold out in their homes until all those infected were gone. So many prepared, and yet... it did nothing.
The virus arrived. It was an airborne pathogen, and it was quickly realized that even isolation could not save them. It swept through towns like a wave of death.
One morning, ten people, residing in a town whose name has lost all significance, awaited their demise along with everyone else. People were going mad in the streets, crazy with fear and wild with adrenaline. Several homes were set afire, quickly spreading from one to another, until the entire neighborhood was alight. The residents, those who still survived, at least, fled with everything they could take.
Then, the fires died down.
The crowds in the streets gradually faded away.
And then there was no one.
The virus ravaged the town, killing everyone... or, nearly everyone. All traces of humans had disappeared, save for ten people.
These ten people somehow had an immunity to the virus, and were spared without any adverse health affects. No one even showed the first signs of any illness.
The survivors- five men and five women- all have a few things in common: they all lived in the same neighborhood, most of which has burned down. That and, they are all rather young- between the ages of 18 and 38.
Why have these people been spared? The question has to be raised- were they chosen... to be part of a second Eden? Are they meant to continue the human race? If so, why them?
Though these questions gnaw at them, they cannot focus on that now. The ten of them must work together to survive in the ruins of what was once their world.
The Setting
All of the survivors come from the same neighborhood, which was brutally destroyed in the chaos of that fateful Thursday morning. Only one house survived- the residence of Amanda Spencer and her brother, Lee. It sits at the end of the street, a little distance from the other houses. It is a rather large place, the siblings having inherited it from their late parents, with a small orchard in the back. It is here that the ten survivors now reside together.
The town is completely abandoned, however, some buildings are still standing. Windows were smashed and doors kicked down in the chaotic turmoil, but the structures still stand. A few houses on the outskirts of town survived as well, though their owners and residents did not. As many people stockpiled food and supplies, planning to hold out in their houses, most of these supplies remain. One option for gathering food for the ten survivors is to venture out into the town and raid the abandoned buildings... though this will last a while, how long can the supplies hold out?

OOC Notes
Amanda Spencer held out her hand behind her, palm out, signaling for her brother to stay put. Lee stood a bit behind her, at first trying to peer over her shoulder but then giving up quickly. Amanda was steadfast in her will. She crept up toward the front window, beside the door, which looked out to the street. It had been a while since the sounds of commotion had died down, though she was still afraid that if she were to peek through the blinds, she would immediately see a crazed, infected townsperson raising a sledgehammer to break down their door. Really, she was afraid to see anything of the outside. She didn't want to know how everything had gone down. She still wanted to believe that she could pinch her arm and wake herself up from this nightmare.
Swallowing hard, Amanda parted the blinds and looked out the window. She felt a sickening sinking feeling in her stomach, and a tiny whimper passed through her lips. Lee was by her side in an instant. Amanda stepped aside, in a daze, so he could see too.
Outside, it was an impossible scene of devastation. Where houses had previously stood there were only charred ruins. Broken glass and stone littered the street. Though they could not see any bodies, they were painfully aware of their unseen presence somewhere in the rubble. Men, women children. Those people, their neighbors, that they had just spoken to a week ago, days ago- how could they be dead? His could all of these people
simply be... gone? Their minds couldn't wrap around it. It was too much.
Lee gently pushed Amanda away from the window, where her eyes has been glued, her face frozen in an image of horror. He slowly wrapped his arms around her, trying to be comforting. But really, he felt the need to be comforted himself, as well.
This brought another crushing reality upon them- were they the only two left alive? Lee found himself wishing that he would rather be dead. Both he and Amanda. Then they wouldn't have to suffer the cruelty of this lonely existence, destined to starve and die slowly with only each other for company.
Lee found himself thinking of Enya, just then. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her, without even getting the chance to say goodbye. She was everything to him. Now, he decided, he would have to exist to take care of Amanda... this gave him a purpose, at least. He couldn't leave her alone, no matter how much remorse he felt, himself.
Amanda buried her face into her brother's shirt, not able to think anymore. This was all horribly and impossibly twisted. Leaving only two to survive? What had they done to deserve this lonesome fate? She couldn't imagine.
Just then, she caught sight of something, a flicker of vague movement through the crack in the blinds. She pulled herself away from Lee and tore at the blinds so that they fell to thr ground in a heap. "What, what?" Lee was demanding, alarmed, but Amanda barely heard him. At the sudden burst of noise, Soo came triumphantly barking to the door, her fluffy white tail wagging excitedly. Lee shushed her, though barely containing his own apprehensive sort of excitement. "What do you see?!"
"There's someone out there!" Amanda shouted, though her brother only stood feet behind her. "People, living people!" Lee was not as sure as she was that this was a positive development- "What if they're only the last of the diseased? There's no way to tell from here if they're infected or not."
Still, Amanda did not let this crush her hope. She wanted it to be another survivor, one or more. She wanted to know that she and her brother were not alone. Though skeptical, Lee wanted this too. Both of them were abnormally emotional, not thinking straight in their sheer desperation. Soo padded up behind them, sticking her head between their feet so she could look out the window too. They hardly dared to breathe as they waited for the shape to come closer, to see if they were truly not alone.
OOC Notes
What was sad, was that the travel was so quiet. Nexus was born a mute. Sure, if she screamed some noise would come out, but not above a whisper. So she walked over the rubble and broken houses in silence.
Squeak
She stepped on a blue teddy bear. One eye was missing, it's face was covered in mud, and it smelled of gas. Somehow though, she was attracted to it. Reaching down to pick it up she noticed it still had a soft feel to it. Warm and plush. Bringing it to eye level she nodded her head.
"I will call you blue."
She made this mental note of a simple name and carried on. Her backpack was starting feel heavy. Her sticks dug into her side, and sweat was starting to form. Maybe it was time for break, just sit and pause for a second. Lugging her backpack a little further up the side of a building she sat on cracked granite and started into the distance. In a way, it looked pretty. Moss was starting to cover the house and buildings. Yellow and purple flowers sprung up and over the cracks in the cement. Almost as if the world was taking back what was hers by right. A start of a new kind of civilization.
A small butterfly flew past her as to confirm her thoughts that the world itself was still alive. Nexus, pulling herself away from her thoughts continued walking up the rest of the street until she came upon a building. It struck her with surprise awe wonder and fear all at the same time. It was untouched, almost in perfect condition. But that, that's not what caught her eye. No, no, it was the moving curtain that hit a nerve.
Nexus dropped all other thoughts of finding some safe haven or food, but now, her intentions were to explore that house. Her feet moved in a swift motion, carrying her swiftly to the front of the house. She reached in her bag and grabbed a small rock and threw it at the window. Then she scribbled the words "HELLO" on a notepad and held it up. Hoping, pleading, for a response.
OOC Notes
That would have to wait until AFTER she wasn't in imminet danger. The threat of death could really put priorities into perspective. Her house was aflame, threating to crash on her with a thunderous roar. The floorboards were beginning to crak violently with the extra pressure the smoke was cauing.
Coughing slightly due to the rising black smoke, Enya gathered her will, and pulled out a red suitcase. She wasn't about to just let everything slip away from her fingers as easily as a fire. She quickly gathered some clothes, her note book... and a picture of her with her parents, as her and Ray in the fore ground. Pausing for a mere two seconds to glare at it, she packed it in, and, strapping the suitcase around her shoulder, headed for the door, grabbing her knife as she did.
As soon as she stepped out, and got a safe distance away, she turned around to gaze at the place that she had lived in her entire life, with her, her parents, and Ray. Enya bit her lip: She couldn't remeber if Ray had been in the house or not... she decided to gamble on the latter, and began walking away.
This virus was crazy Day one, and the city was going to hell. Thousands, maybe millions, had run around and died, and Enya was glad she wasn't one of them. Her thoughts turned to Lee, wandering if he was still sane, or part of the Great Orchestra in the Sky. She shook her head at the thought. Surely, he was alive... she had no choice but to believe otherwise. And that meant going to the Spencer house to check.
Honestly, her hopes weren't too high. Chances were, The Spencer houshold was adding to the wonderful pile of firewood that this town had become. Still, the smallest of chance was still a chance, and Miriam wasn't going to allow herself to rest until she found out.
She was also worried about Ray. Hopefully, he would be able to predict her movements, and go there himself. She decided that, even if it WAS ruined, she'd remain there for a day, just to make certain. SHe turned on her heels, and began a mad sprint in that direction.
As she neared, she gave a bright smile, and redoubled her speed waving her arms wildly, incase they could see her. The chances just increased of Lee being alive. Hopefully, that meant his sister would too. "HEEY Lee, PLEASE tell me you're in there!" She said, running up to the doorsteps."
OOC Notes
What she did next shocked them both- the girl held up a notebook, in which she had scribbled a message before their eyes. "Do something... she's alive..." Amanda barely breathed. Lee held back their excited dog with his leg as Amanda opened the door to let the girl inside. "It's alright, it's safe here." She was speaking reassurances, however they were for both the girl and for herself.
"What is your name?" Amanda asked her. Lee watched them both quietly from a short distance away. His eyes darted from the two of them to the window every few moments. A couple of times he was sure he saw movement, but dimissed this as fantasy. To imagine that more people had miraculously survived was ludicrous, he thought.
"Oh, you can't talk, can you?" Amanda realized aloud, in a soft voice. "You lived near here, didn't you? I think I've seen you before." She was thinking aloud, still scarcely believing it was real. Gently she looked at the cover of the girl's notebook, catching a name. "Nexus! That's right. Welcome, Nexus. It's looking like we're the only place habitable in town, so you are perfectly welcome to stay here." The young woman blinked, and then remembered something with a start- "Ah, and my name is Amanda, by the way. Amanda Spencer. My brother's name is Lee," she gestured to indicate him, "and the hairball is called Soo." The white dog gave a little yip at the sound of her name.
"I had no idea anyone else had survived, except for us... and yet you're here! It's a miracle." She offered the girl a kind smile. Just then, there was the sound of another voice, from outside. Amanda recognized it, but her brother did even faster.
"No way..." A variety of expressions flickered across his face in an instant- various forms of surprise, disbelief and jubilation. In two steps Lee was at the door, tearing it open. It revealed Enya standing on their doorstep. To Lee, it was an image sent straight from heaven, some impossible fantasy he never dared to believe was real.
For a moment they only stared at each other in disbelief; in the next, he embraced her in a rare display of emotion, holding her close. "You're alive, thank goodness..." He said, half-laughing with joy. "And you're not slavering at the mouth!" Though he was joking, it was also quite true.
Lee let her inside, closing the door behind them. Soo ran up to Enya, yapping happily. "Ah, I'm glad you're alright!" Amanda said, smiling. The atmosphere settled down a little, and Lee sobered up as a thought seemed to pass through all present- where was Ray? He wasn't going to say anything about it. Amanda, meanwhile, turned back to Nexus. "Look at that, another survivor... crazy, isn't it? I'm glad my brother's happy, too." Her eyes trailed down to the bear that Nexus held in her hands. "He's cute," she indicated it. "Does he have a name?" Any sort of lighthearted discussion was welcome in this decidedly dark atmosphere.

Merely 10 minutes later, Ray was standing straight and looking at the remains of his burned home. He'd been able to retrieve his 9mm pistol before he jumped, but as the situation looked, he could make no use of it. He started walking around the ruins, and noticed that a couple of nearby trees had caught the fire too, and was burned down to the trunk.
The front door was lying on the ground, seemingly undamaged. The window had been splintered though, and glass fragments filled the driveway. It was only now he came to think of Enya. Did she get out of the house in time? Did she even get out at all? He quickly ran around the house remains, looking for any sign that his sister had escaped the fire. Soon he was standing on the driveway again. No signs of anyone nearby. Filled with concern, he looked down all of a sudden, and then he saw it.
Footsteps. They lead all the way out to the main road, and disappeared on the concrete. Ray quickly ran all the way along the driveway and stopped at the sidewalk. He was put to a great shock. Bodies, dead, some burned, some covered in blood, some looking untouched, were lying all over the main street. Every house in the neighborhood seemed to be burned too. Just what had happened here?
Ray ran quickly along the main road, making sure not to touch any of the bodies. He glimpsed at all of them, just to make sure that Enya wasn't among them. At the end of the main road, he came to a complete stop. He was looking at the house which his friend Lee, and his sister Amanda owned. The house was intact, but seemed empty from where he was standing. The curtains were drawn, and he couldn't see anyone around the house. He ran to the house, and hammered a fist at the front door. "LEE! If you're there, please let me in!" he yelled.
OOC Notes
He takes a look around and his heart sinks. How could people just...Burn everything? This is like a warzone. My home...a warzone
He approaches his old home with caution, his weapon raised scanning all possibly ambush sites. His house is completely burnt to the ground, along with everything in it. He is lucky he put his rucksack in his truck. However, he left the keys in the house.
He searches the wreckage of his house for an hour, to no avail. He finally resorted to breaking into his own truck, and leaving his get away vehicle behind. He strapped up his rucksack onto his back and began searching the other homes in his neighborhood. His responsibilty as a soldier, was to protect any remaining citizens untill someone with higher authority came and found him, and thats what he would do. After searching through his cultisac and finding nothing he decided to head north.
As soon as he stepped out of the chaos and into the intersection, he saw a woman running towards the only standing house.
"HEEY Lee, PLEASE tell me you're in there!" she screamed at the house. There was concern, and yet joy in her voice. She couldnt be infected. They were only angry.
"Hey!" Max screamed at her. Raising his hand over his head, and moving in her direction. He was easy to spot in his Army Combat Uniform, It wasnt designed for Urban environments.
As he was walking towards the women, he saw the door open, and she went inside! More survivors!
He ran towards the door "Hey! Hey lemme in! I'm not infected!"
OOC Notes
Ash was everywhere, blanketing almost everything, mostly where the housed had stood, but still, the wind had her way with it and coated the sidewalks, some of the street, it was like a thin, and, extremely bleak snow.
It also just so happened to provide a decent medium for writing in, and a side walk the perfect surface to house it.
Issac crouched on the sidewalk that was in front of the ruble that had been his modest home, index finger scrawling out numbers and letters in the fresh ash.
"So...I'm alive and un-infected, that's good, that implies immunity, or avoidance to whatever virus, disease, or infection, could not infect everything it came in contact with, it also tells me that it probably isn't airborne, which means ingestion, or infliction may be the only ways to contract it. I wonder how it started..Some contamination in food, or water? Perhaps a person became afflicted with it as a virus and began infecting others, it's very clear that this had a great effect on sanity..Either way..Any way, I wonder how it came into being, and how it came in contact with humans. The sheer fact I've seen dogs and cats roaming around is enough to raise suspicion, if it doesn't effect animals, does it only effect humans? That seems a bit..Deliberate."
With a sigh, he stood back up, his bad, slouched posture showing through all his "grooming".
Looking up at the extraordinarily average sky, he wondered how something like this could have happened at all, let alone on such an ordinary day, after all, it's somewhat natural to assume great change, improvement, or devastation comes with great indication.
What exactly HAD happened, that was one of the more pressing questions, he found himself amazed that, as a man constantly trying to find a way to explain the very fundamentals of the universe at large, he never seemed to factor in the, If you're freaken' dead you really can't do jack. part of an equation.
Here he was, standing out in the open, admit what could possibly be a horde of extremely violent, quick, and unintelligent cannibals, all rather hungry and craving whatever they could come in contact with.
A needed sense of survival finally kicked in, after a rather macabre exhibition of cannibalistic-based-death flashed through his mind, and, gathering up what few possessions he managed to wrestle from the fire's seductive, yet deadly grip, he set about finding one of most obvious, and, important means of survival.
Shelter.
Of course, being an adept multitasker, he could walk AND think.
It just meant he probably wouldn't be paying attention to his surroundings, it was a trade-off.
"So, this is survivable..If N is the number of people in the world, and X the number of infected...No, this is useless, to many variables, was this restricted to a city, state, country? Murphy's law as already shown that when it kicks in on a cataclysmic scale, it sure gets the damn job done..Working off of that, should I make the arrogant and rather silly assumption that I'm the last alive? Well..If that's the case..And, perhaps if it's not, I have a feeling my grant is in limbo for a while..They can't blame me for this, or Swamy Laxminarayan even, he's been dead for awhile..Wonder who they'll scapegoat..
Wonder if there's anyone to scapegoat, and anyone to be doing the escaping...
...To bad Swamy Laxminarayan is dead, I'd enjoy blaming him, just cause.."
It was during his rambling thought-odessy that he'd walked a good deal up main-street, he'd lived on the very south end of it, and, it was only now, when his thoughts ended on a comical note, that he noticed the activity that had been going on around him.
There'd been some movement, a dog, a door opening and slamming, some odd girl, some male-thing yelling to be allowed in, and, now someone in army fatigues, just what the doomed little world of main-street needed, a jarhead, here to rescue them all.
It was after assessing all the people, and, all the shouting, that something finally sunk in, there was a HOUSE, and it WASN'T burnt to the ground, it had a door and everything!
Of course, his first thoughts were about what the probability of that was, considering the number of houses on both sides of the street, it's placement in the row, the wind, the spread of the fire, and, so on, but once those subsided, his common sense smacked him hard enough to muster the only intelligent thing he'd done sense fleeing a burning building.
Allow that man to pound upon the door and scream for it's inhabitants, while he closed the gap between them, hopefully allowing him to simply become a tag-along to solider boy over there, instead of actually having to make any bid for entrance personal.
OOC Notes
"Hey! Hey lemme in! I'm not infected!" Lee opened the door and took a step onto the doorstep, to see a man in fatigues running up toward him. A little farther behind him was another man, walking in the general direction. "OI!" Lee shouted out to them and raised up his hand, to get both of their attention. "Non-infected friends gather here!" A wry sense of humor worked its way into his voice. He could still feel his heart pounding rather quickly, though his expression and demeanor were far more sober. He tried to suppress the flares of anxiety licking at his chest, donning a more clear, focused view, as his sister would. He always envied that of her, her ability to think so clearly in situations such as these. Even now, she was gathering people together, trying to work things out.
"Congratulations," Lee greeted the two men when they came to the door. "You're our lucky winners. Seeing as you're not foaming at the mouth, you're welcome here. Best stay in town, promise." The three of them entered the rather grand building.
"My, more guests?" Amanda smiled as if she were the hostess of a party, rather than the owner of the only safe haven in the hellish remains of their world. Now there was more of a substantial crowd gathering in their front entryway. "Let's get together in the living room, where there's more space." She suggested. Soo hopped to her feet, watching the people make their way into the other room. She trotted along side them, staring up at them curiously with her deep brown eyes. Amanda followed them there, whereas Lee remained by the door. As she passed by him, she tossed him a smirk. "Is that sarcasm I heard out of you, boy? Am I rubbing off on you?" She playfully punched his shoulder and Lee smiled a little, looking down at his feet. This tiny interaction was like so many they had in the past, before the end of the world. It was a welcome reprieve.
Amanda walked into the living room, observing their new guests. Soo ran excited little circles around her feet, getting bored after a few laps and then zipping out of the room to sit by her favorite human. Amanda sighed lightly. "Is anyone hurt? Do we need anything?" She asked, looking around at the tiny crowd. It's as good a start as any, she thought.
Lee stood guard by the door, his shoulder leaning against the frame. His dog sat obediently by his feet, her ears pricked up, on alert for more excitement. He thought he should remain there for at least a little longer, just in case any other survivors happened to come- survivors were becoming much more of a reality. To say it was surprising would be an incredible understatement. He spared a glance into the other room from his post, smiling privately at the sight of their friends. Really, he was thankful that as many people made it out unharmed as they did. Perhaps the rest of the world was gone, but they had their own little corner of existence, right here. It was comforting, in an odd way.
OOC Notes
"Woof!~" She quickly turned around holing her gun up, bbut lowered it when she noticed it was just a dog. She looked down at it then took out a small pieice of meat she packed and threw it to the dog. The dog quickly ate it and went up to her rubbing agaisnt her leg. She smiled a little and pet the dog, countinuing her way down the road looking for anybody she could find.

He stood there for another 2 minutes, and were just about to head back to the house when he saw a distant figure move far down the road. It was a human. It was still unclear to him wether who he saw was a man or a woman. But as the person approached him, he could now see the long, pitch black hair, and he then judged it to be a woman. Something was moving with her, it looked like a dog. "That must have been the dog I heard before.." he thought to himself.
Ray stayed in place, waiting for her approach. He could now see her blue eyes. She looked familiar to him, but he couldn't point a finger on who she was.

"My name is Ray" he said, trying to pose a smile. He noticed her emotionless face, and quickly dropped the smile again. Then he turned his face to the house. "My friend Lee and his sister is offering a place to stay for any survivors left. You can come in if you want." He made a gesture at the front door.
OOC Notes
She was a lot happier because of all this, and She scratched Soo behind the ears happily, as she moved into the living room.
She sat on the couch, watching the newcomers with a wary eye, sizing them up. “Well... today's been hectic, to say the very least.” She said with a tired sigh. She could feel her head getting hot. “Okay by you if I relax on the couch, Lee? I'm starting to feel a little lightheaded.” She asked. Not that anyone could blame her, and she rested her head against a couch pillow while she watched the proceedings. Already, she was going to appear weak, and she hated that. But, with the sudden swarm oof emotions, combined with the extreme heat from earlier, she couldn't help it.
And that made her feel even worse, and she shook her head, to clear her mind of it hat was a mistake: The sudden shaking was not helping at all, and she groaned.
“Well, i''m satisfied.” She said with a happy smile, still unbelieving her good fortune. Next, she decided to introduce herself to those who didn't know her. “Hey, everyone... My Name's Miriam, but just about everyone calls me Enya. Doesn't matter to me. It's nice to meet you all.”

Issac hadn't made a single sound since he was let in, sticking to the background while everyone shuffled into the living room, he'd secured himself a position in the back of it.
Hunched forward, left foot on the wall, left hand supporting his right elbow, fingers pressed to his chin, and, unruly snow-white hair falling on his glasses, he'd finally hit a train of thought he found may be interesting to the, in this case, perfect strangers, who's mass unfortunately occupied much of the space around him.
"It must have been true hell to have been in a Supermarket, or a mall, or really, even a crowded bar, any kind of packed establishment. Think about it, people always go shopping even if they have a cold, or the flu, or whatever petty, but infectious ailment they may have, so, theoretically, someone, somewhere in the world, carrying whatever-it-is that turned them into mindless psychopaths, if you carry it, that is, was in a mall, a bar, a Supermarket, or some establishment when they fell fully victimized to it. Can you imagine the panic in such a closed environment? I don't know about you people, but, I've noticed they seem to spread their sickness through oral contact, like a bite..Probably a lick to..So, one "infected" in an environment with so many people..Before security stepped in, and mass paranoia kicked off, they could probably infect several others in a very short time, infecting them..eventually, a mall would just become one big horde, and, one hell of a bloodbath...I simply can't imagine being trapped in some little shoppe at a mall, with a horde of what seem like zombies closed in on me, very, very intent on killing me...Although, perhaps how cliche it is would diffuse the situation.."
Looking up from the fingernail he'd been chewing, he suddenly realized just how random, and, out of place that was, more so, just how awkward he'd made himself.

"It's alright, it's safe here."
"What is your name?"..."Oh, you can't talk, can you?"
Nexus was beginning to panic for short second. Some people thought she was stupid when she didn't talk. She'd never forget the day she forgot her notebook at home. Surprisingly this girl was smart enough to know that she couldn't talk. Nexus nodded her head in response to let her know she wasn't deaf too.
"You lived near here, didn't you? I think I've seen you before."... "Nexus! That's right. Welcome, Nexus. It's looking like we're the only place habitable in town, so you are perfectly welcome to stay here."..."Ah, and my name is Amanda, by the way. Amanda Spencer. My brother's name is Lee, and the hairball is called Soo."
Nexus was overjoyed at her words and instantly began to write a response.
"Yea your right, I used to live here, but I left for a little while to find food and shelter but it's nothing like home you know? Not that I have a home...but you said I could stay here right? Thanks. No worries I'm not to much trouble, I mean I can't talk. Haha, anyways, Nexus, but you can call me Nex. Nice to meet you and your brother. Cute dog too."
Nexus handed her the notepad with an almost childish smile. To her surprise though, another girl ran up behind her. As she was standing there multiple people was starting to flock in. Amazing. So many survivors. But the atmosphere had started to make her uneasy as so many voices and names were called off and said. She hadn't heard so many voices in awhile. Her only voice was paper.
"He's cute...Does he have a name?"
Turning her attention back to Amanda she pointed twice at his arm, which was blue, she also pointed at her blue jean shorts that were blue and then again at the sky. She signed the letters B-L-U. Hopefully she'd get it. After awhile she got her notebook back and in big black letters scribbled her name and the word mute and just kinda stood there with the sign, so if anyone asked or saw her they'd know her name and condition. Nexus thought herself a smart cookie at the moment. As more people talk she picked up other peoples names. Lunari, Issac and some others.
After a short time Amanda motioned for them to go inside. Nexus followed her orders with great haste. She hadn't sat on anything soft in weeks. When she walked in the house she was met with cool air and a clean smell. It made her wonder if she looked dirty or smelled bad. She set her bags down and her sticks next to them and placed herself on the floor leaning against the wall. She'd just sit and observe for the time being.

He took the magazine out of his rifle, and his pistol, and reloaded the rounds into his mags. Now that he has a moment to look at everyone, it seems odd that every survive is from this very neighborhood.
"Well my name is Max. I just live down the street as i've noticed most of you do." He stops for a moment and looks around. "Its damn nice to see some faces that aren't trying to kill me. I'm sure you guys have noticed I'm in the army, however i am not here to try and inflict crazy rules or take charge. I just want to survive this as i am sure you all do as well."
He looks at each person as they begin to get situated. He clears his throat "You dont happen to have room for all of us do you?" He says looking at the man who let him in.
"It seems that most of us are without a home to return to. "
Max was very happy to see people alive and healthy. It had been a long 3 hours of seeing nothing but dead people. He sits down on a dining table chair, his ruck leaning against the wall.

Cooking was a love of hers, away to keep busy, while also thinking as deeply as she wanted at the same time. This virus was unreal.... like something you would see off of a zombie movie. Were they the last humans alive? Was the virus killing everyone in the world? I single problem in the air an millions, if not billions, had met their hand. Miriam wasn't one to believe in God, but it sounded like some Divine Punishment that she s\used to read about in books.
If she had been the only one to survive, Enya probably would have turned the knife on herself. Strength of heart had nothing to do with it: No human could live alone. Lee's and Ray's existence saved her, and she was happier because of it. She and Lee had been going out for the past three years... it would ave been a shane for that spark to have been snuffed out.
She found a deep pan, and boiled some hot water, adding the vegetables, and began chopping the meat into small, bite sized portions.

He looked around, and realized he was taking charge again. That was the last thing he wanted to do. He was a Guest in their house, and here he was trying to micromanage.
"I mean...Its the least I feel I could do..." The awkward glares made him retreat in his seat a little bit. Spefically from the gentleman in the corner who has been chewing his nails.
Maybe wearing my fatigues wasn't a great idea. How was i supposed to know i was going to be one of 10 survivors? I figured i would just report to my unit and that would be it.
Max steps through the kitchen, opens the door, and steps out onto the patio. The world seemed to have a hazey hue to it. No doubt from all the fires, buildings on both sides of the house have been reduced to piles of ash, warped steel, and some brick. He was lucky, if the infection didnt get him the fire easily could have. How many survived the infection only to die in a fire or get beaten to death? Are there more people alive out there?
He pulls up a chair and sits on the patio. How many of my guys from the unit have survived? Did my family make it...? Depression and anger race across his face in a battle of wills.
And then there were ten

Issac hid his smirk as the military man began speaking with authority, not even ten seconds after claiming he had no intent on taking charge, that had to be the most amusing thing about any army-boy, they simply couldn't help taking charge when around "Civilians".
Maybe it was the silly fatigues they always seemed to wear outside of combat that got him, although, he was in no place to comment on fashion mistakes at the moment, seeing as how he was in tan dress slacks, hiking boots, a white short sleeved button down, and a leather jacket.
He was about to interject, just to cause the G.I Joe a little upset, even though he did agree, somewhat, with the man's point, however, 'ol G.I found an awkward statement before he did.
"I mean...Its the least I feel I could do..."
With that, the fatigue wearing man got up and seemed to scuttle out into the kitchen, which rather pleased Issac.
"Oh wow, Uncle Sam left someone a brain? And he's MORE socially awkward than I am..That's impressive..One with common sense, too..I may actually have to not-degrade this one...Still, he had a point."
A soft sigh escaped his thing lips as he pushed himself off of the wall.
"He's right, to an extent, though hygiene products is a bit shallow. For the brave of heart, malls, mini-malls, chain stores, and, supermarkets are available, for the rest of us, small time mom-and-pop joints, Gas stations, and, so on. We really need to be getting our hands on any, and, all supplies possible, keep in mind, the term "stealing" died when everyone with rightful possession did to, you can't steal from the dead...Unless you count grave-robbery..But that's theft OF the dead, so I really don't think it applies...Unless you start bringing corpses back...But, that implies cannibalism too, or intent to cannibal..Which I think would be a more pressing problem, and surely more taboo..I wonder what the chances are for cannibalism in small groups...Donner Party...Hmm...Oh..Uhmm.."
He coughed, rather nervously, realizing just how badly he'd been rambling on.
"Very sorry, lectures..They develop the habit of not-rambling, to bad I'm terrible at them..(Damnit, you're doing it again, shut up Issac! Stop letting them unnerve you, so what if they're looking at you..With their eyes..And breathing..So much breathing, so many germs...Damnit, focus!)"
He sighed, now hanging his head in dismay, and, grumbling in a near monotone voice.
"Basically..It's not stealing..So don't have a conscious and go grab a bunch of stuff..Including big items like, back-up/reserve generators, oil lamps, batteries, all the batteries you can, perhaps a decent radio..Means of communication for the rest of us, flashlights..You know..The basics..Oh, food, and, blankets, and, that stuff too.."
Now you've done it, Issac," He simply couldn't help thinking harshly towards himself. "You managed to sound like an adult lecturing children, and probably offending them all within ten seconds, Bravo."
OOC Notes
The blackness was overwhelming and all-consuming, like a canvas dipped in black ink, destroying what lay beneath. Breathless, Jade watched as colors suddenly spilled onto the expanse of black that surrounded her. Sound, mingled with color, created an image from the past. Jade was trapped, unable to flee what she knew was coming. And, there he was. Dark brown eyes full of hatred and malice stared back at her, challenging her. Jade watched helplessly as his lips, stretched into a snarl, parted.
"What happened to forever Jade? This is what love is." It was the voice Jade had loved. The voice she had grown to hate. He spited the words out as he walked towards her, grabbing her arm as she turned away from him.
"NO," Jade screamed and pounded his chest, repeating the word over and over again until the image shattered. Jade's eyelids fluttered open and she was forced to look at reality. Reality was that pretty much the whole world had just died. Men and women, children and the elderly, and everyone in between gone. Poof. The virus, as well as the rapidly spreading
fire, have no prejudices against race or sex. They destroy everything. Reality was that Jade's parents had succumbed to the virus, their corpses then ravished by the unquenchable flames that tore through the town. She was on her own, except for the Doberman that lay by her side, so Jade did what she does best.
Jade chose to forget reality, even though it had caused a beam to knock her unconscious, and blood to trickle into her eyes from the gash on her forehead. How dare mom and dad go on vacation without me. Oh well, it's a good thing they did, so they don't have to see this. Jade clapped her hands together. Think of the wonderful time they'll have.
Blinking the blood away, Jade stepped over the rubble and grabbed the backpack that she had crammed with all her favorite novels and other various items. "Come on Heathcliff," she said to the Doberman, "we have to find if their are any others." Heathcliff woofed in agreement.
A few minutes later, Jade was humming, oblivious towards the rubble that lay beneath her, preferring to think of the destroyed houses as ancient castle ruins. Bloody and dizzy, Jade stumbled a few times over the debris. Her gaze lifted towards the horizon where Jade could just make out the outlines of what looked like an orchard. Oh how romantic! An orchard in the middle of all these ruins. Upon closer inspection, Jade noticed a house lay beyond the orchard. She recognized the house. Amanda Spencer and her brother Lee lived there. Jade smiled as she recalled that the few times that they had met in passing, both had been friendly. Might as well go check, it's the only house I've seen for awhile anyway. I hope they're okay...
Not thinking of what might it would mean if no one answered, Jade made her way to the door. Heathcliff, nostrils furiously sniffing the air, padded along side of her. Jade hesitated when she reached the door, pausing to brush her bangs over the gash above her left eyebrow. She plastered on a cheerful smile as she knocked on the door. Everything would be okay...

Ray woke up just to hear these words. "Who's speaking of cannibalism at a time like this?" he thought to himself. He kept his eyes closed and pretended to be asleep on the chair. The voice continued: "Very sorry, lectures..They develop the habit of not-rambling, to bad I'm terrible at them.." "You got that right mister.. Now stop making the situation even worse, please." Ray couldn't believe he just thought that.
Soon the smell of food ran past his nose, Enya was in the kitchen. He's always loved her food, and he'd always recognize when she was cooking. Ray made a show out of pretending to just have woken up, he stretched his body, a bit too far, and he fell down from the chair and landed on the floor. Avoiding the stares everyone gave him, he quickly rose to a stand, and went to the kitchen to see what his sister was cooking.
OOC Notes
He throws his rucksack over the 6ft fence to the neighbor's yard, slings his rifle and pistol and quickly maneuvers the fence. He grabs his Ruck, and moves over to the soil. He pulls the rifle off of his back props it up against one of the fence stakes and takes off his ACU blouse. He digs into his bag and pulls out one of his books and begins to compare the soil.
The soil has recently been fertilized and had some sort of adative put into it, which makes for good growing. The soil is a dark color even as it is dry. From his Experience this will make for a very good garden. As he stands up, he also notices most of the trees behind the house are still standing and unburnt. If this tree line goes deep enough and up the mountains which are a few miles back. We might be able to get some good hunting as well
He begins to rack his brain, attempting to think of what lies beyond the tree line. He cant remember ever going that far East so he is unsure of what lies past. He shrugs to himself. As he reaches down to pick up his rifle and blouse, his jeans fall out of his ruck. Well...Its not like i am going to be running into anyone from the military soon. Might as well try to be more like everyone else.
He quickly rounds up his jeans, tanktop, and t-shirt and switches from his Fatigues to civilian attire. He packs his fatigues in the bottom of his ruck. Hopefully, i will need to pull you out again. Untill then, you can stay there.
He throws his stuff back over the fence, and quickly retreats back to the patio of the house.

Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
We dont need more characters at the moment. Not yet anyways, if our characters get mangled in an attack or something maybe qwe could bring a nother character in or something.
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
also, I propose that we dont make any more characters. We have a perfect male/ female ratio, and everyone here posts fairly often. just us will make for a decent roleplay, and an exceptional one.
We can say the others got infected after all, and they had resistance, but not immunity.

Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
Sorry I've been slowing things down... real life getting a little crazy. I promise I'll keep posting, even if it's not as often. I don't want it to die, no matter what~!
Even if the pace gets slightly slower, I hope it will stay alive. :)
Yes, new characters can come in as survivors that they find later. Sounds like a good idea to me~ :D

Also, I worked on my own survivval RP
roleplay/the-society-of-truth/
The main difference is that everyone is alive... they're just out to either kill/ brainwash you. Check it out!
I'll get to posting now.
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
On the same token, i dont mind continuing with who we have now. As i said in an earlier post, i think we have a good balance as is...someone just wont get a romance partner...Or someone will get two romance partners... (Giggidy?)
Anyways, i dont mind either way.
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
@Rarikou: Walking around with a severed arm is tame compared to most the stuff I write. I honestly don't find it creepy anymore.
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
And I wouldn't mind creating a make character. Maybe one of Max's squadmates?
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
There used to be a 10th character, but I guess her player abandoned her? Or deleted her? Hmm... that's strange.
If we want to keep the rounded "10" number of survivors, I wouldn't be opposed to opening up the possibility for creating second characters. So that means... there would be one male spot and two female spots open, if people are interested of course!
I love Isaac, he's a great character. xD I can imagine him laying in the basement, holding that diseased arm like one would a teddy bear or something. xDDD lol
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
I may run with it, though. xD
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
And I can't wait to see what Issac (or Isaac?) is going to do with that arm. :D
Re: [OOC] Apocalyptic Eden
And probably get a name next time i think of a decent post.
I think Issac is going to sleep in the basement with his arm.
