Introduction
After what Fate/stay night and its associated works have done with King Arthur, Emperor Nero and Sir Francis Drake, I figured this time we might as well go all out.
You shouldn't need to be familiar with Fate/stay night to play, feel free to make up your own ideas about magic and magicians. However, if you wish I will allow you to play a canonical F/sn character depending on who it is.
~~~
The game is set in our world, with the difference that magic is a reality, though it has faded away so much that in the modern age only a secret minority scattered across the Earth are able to use it, or even know it exists. Afraid to reveal their powers to the public, some mages just accept that their art is a dying one, while others say the time shall come where science and technology will be overthrown and magic will again control the Earth.
Regardless, a special ritual has been set up in the French village of Domremy-la-Pucelle, best known for being the hometown of Joan of Arc. This ritual is to summon the Holy Grail, said to be capable of granting any wish, not to mention attracting the attention of the Catholic Church to wish to inspect the 'Grail's authenticity.
The Holy Grail has chosen seven seemingly unrelated mages from near and far, marking them with three 'Command Seals' on their wrists, however only one of them will be allowed to make a wish on the Grail. To decide who shall have this honour, the Command Seals have given these magicians, now referred to as 'Masters' due to their participation in this ritual, the power to each summon the spirit of a legendary figure from mythology or history, now referred to as a 'Servant'. These Servants will battle each other until only one remains.
However, something rather odd has happened. As the Grail ritual has been set up on Domremy, the legend of Joan of Arc highly associated with the area has had a strange effect on the summoning procress, changing all Servants who were male in the myths and legends into female versions of themselves. This is only the beginning of a rather unusual magic tournament, where you won't be able to trust everything you read in the history (or mythology) books...
~~~
The RPG takes place in the Vosges: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vosges and Meuse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meuse 'departments' (i.e regions) of France, which include towns such as Verdun, Epinal and naturally Domremy-la-Pucelle. You won't need to have extensive knowledge of these regions to play, I know I don't.
Servants are the spirits of characters from folklore, mythology and history (they don't have to necessarily be 'heroes'). Their legend has earned them a place in the otherworldly Throne of Heroes, where they can be summoned from whenever a summoning ritual is performed. There are (usually) seven Servants per Grail War, each of a different class:
*Saber: Wields swords or blades, focuses on high physical damage.
*Archer: Can physically attack from a distance.
*Lancer: Wields spears, focuses on hitting an enemy's weak points.
*Rider: Can attack from mounts such as steeds or vehicles.
*Berserker: Through the Mad Enhancement spell, trades away sanity for increased power.
*Caster: Specialises in magic.
*Assassin: Uses stealth to eliminate enemy Masters without having to deal with the much stronger Servants.
However there are also two other types of Servants, though right now I will not be accepting players or Masters for them. Note that aspects of these Servants can also carry over into the other classes:
*Avenger: Reserved primarily for dark or vengeful spirits, remembered unfavourably by history. Put simply these are not "heroic" spirits.
*Saviour: A legendary character seen as a Messianic figure in particular.
When applying for a Master or Servant character, please try to go over the following points when creating their sheet:
-Servants-
*Class
*True Identity
*Appearance (Pictures welcome)
*Personality
*Motivation (Reason for wanting the Grail)
*Combat Strengths
*Combat Weaknesses
*Special Abilities (If you need ideas, see here: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Parameters_and_Skills)
*Noble Phantasms (See here for information: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Noble_Phantasm)
*Mana Cost (How much magical energy would be needed to maintain them. More recent Servants would have a lower Cost, more ancient and powerful servants have a higher cost. If a high cost Servant is paired with a Master with a low number of Circuits, that Servant may find their abilities and powers drained)
*Character Theme (Optional. Purely instrumental music is much preferred)
*Battle Theme (Optional. Purely instrumental music is much preferred)
-Masters-
*Name
*Age (no younger than 15)
*Gender
*Nationality
*Appearance (Pictures welcome)
*History
*Personality
*Magical Abilities
*Magical Element
*Mundane Abilities
*Equipment (Particularly any ancient artifacts that could have some connection to a legendary figure)
*Mystic Code (Optional. A magical weapon or item unique to a magus. Sort of like the Master equivalent of a Noble Phantasm)
*Magic Circuits (a measure of how powerful a mage is. Most magi have about twenty circuits, extrememly powerful ones may have more)
*Character Theme (Optional. Purely instrumental music is preferred)
For reference, below is a list of mythological/historical characters that have already been used somewhere in a Fate series work:
*King Arthur
*Sir Gawain
*Emperor Nero
*Gilgamesh
*Robin Hood
*Perseus
*Cuchullain
*Diarmuid Duibhne
*Vlad Tepes
*Enkidu
*Medusa
*Alexander the Great
*Sir Francis Drake
*Huang-Di

*Gilles de Rais
*Tamamo-no-Mae
*“Nursery Rhyme”
*Alexander Dumas

Thank you for your time and interest.
Rules
1. You cannot have full gods as Servants, so no Quetzalcoatl or Odin. Demigods are allowed, and gods who were mortal for a significant portion of their life, whether they fell from grace (e.g. Houyi of Chinese myth) or had to ascend to divinity (e.g. Herakles) are allowed, but no 100% gods.
2. No fictional characters who aren't from folklore, legend or mythology.
3. Servants don't have to be just mythological characters, they can be from history too. Nothing later than World War II though.
4. No two characters from the same region/mythology, e.g. if someone's playing Yoshitsune another person can't play Miyamoto Musashi, unless however the two knew each other in myth/real life whether as friends, rivals or enemies, but I'll only allow one such duo (and since you're not supposed to publicly say your Servants real identity, you'd pretty much have to guess who another Servant is for this to work).
5. Servants cannot be Original Characters, unless you're familiar with Counter Guardians (people from the present day or the future who've made a pact with the collective unconsciousness to serve humanity, including being summonable as Servants), but I'll only accept one of those at most.
6. Servants, due to their legend and time spent in the Throne of Heroes, are usually much more powerful than modern humans, even magi. If you don't play another Servant it’s best to not try to take one head-on.
7. There can only be one Servant per class.
General Rules:
1. Remember that storytelling and character development are major aspects of this RPG, this game isn't just about fighting or who 'wins'.
Also, just because only one Servant will still be left standing at the end that does not mean you are allowed to kill off other characters without permission, even if they aren't another Master or Servant. I'll hold a poll on the OOC thread when I think it's time for a character to die.
2. No meta-gaming (especially important considering the Servants' identities).
3. This is not Ikki Tousen or Kampfer, please don't use this RPG as an excuse for gratituous fanservice or sexism. Your Servant character is of course allowed an "I'M A GIRL!" moment and some humour about their situation, but try to stay away from anything too raunchy or risque unless that's part of the character's personality, and don't post any NSFW content.
If you aren't familiar with Ikki Tousen or Kampfer consider yourself lucky.
4. Every player is allowed as many characters as they need, though no more than two Masters and one Servant or two Servants and one Master.
5. For player interaction purposes, if you control a Master character you may not play your own Servant, and vice versa.
6. If I criticise or even reject your character, I do not mean it as a personal attack against you.
7. No character may be purely good or comepletely evil, everyone must have their flaws and sympathetic points.
This actually applies all the same for Servants, despite what you may think. For example, let's say Sir Galahad's sheer purity also made him feel unnatural and not really 'human'.
8. Please try to warn us if you're going to leave the RPG, whether temporarily or permanently, and if possible leave instructions as to what we should do with your character.
9. Please be kind and respectful to all other players, if there is a problem please tell me about it in private.

If you are not going to properly read what I have written down about this game then please leave, this sort of behaviour is really annoying.

[OOC] Arc of the Legends: The Fight for the Grail
I made this game after applying for another Grail War RPG a few days ago yet receiving no response, although I did always want to create my own Grail War RPG here anyway, and I did warn the people on that other RPG I may be starting one up.
Not to sound harsh or arrogant, but please note that you may not 'reserve' a particular Servant or Master of a Servant, until of course you've sent a character sheet.
Also, as I said this game was based on the central premise of fate/stay night, I took absolutely no inspiration from the similarly titled RPG 'Legends' on this board.
