Introduction

A tale about a Noble(I.E. Princess/Prince) and a Assassin.

In this world, there are two types of people. Those that are blessed with the ability to shift into a creature(I.E. Animals..includes fantasy creatures such as Unicorns) and those that are not. Currently, this world is split in half. Those that are blessed are called Nysir and are rule by the royal family. This royal family has been around since the beginning of time. Those that are not blessed are called Adage and are ruled by their royal family. The biggest differences between the ruling families is that the Nysir are more angry than the Adage. Because of their ability to shift forms, the Nysir have been mistreated throughout history and to this day they all hold a resentment towards the Adage.

Currently, there is no full out war though many seers say that it is coming. Tensions between the two races his high and the smallest thing could set them off. It is only a matter of time.

When he got back home, Riari planned on meeting with Kotan as soon as possible. Though his leader had had picked him for this mission, Riari was not liking what he had to do. He was no babysitter. Why could he not simply kill the girl? Why take her from her home, unharmed? These were questions that he could not answer. He was bound by oath to do as Kotan wished. He flew silently and quickly through the air. Before he'd left the small village of Shavraste, where the small guild held their headquarters, Riari had formulated the perfect plan in order steal the girl away from her home. He would fly into the large capitol, under the cover of darkness. He would then proceed with caution. He could not afford to be seen by anyone. Being caught would serve to start a war between the two races of the world.

Riari's sharp eyes took in all of his surroundings. The bright sunlight was quickly fading. By the time he reached the capitol, he would be completely hidden. The Nysir couldn't believe that he was about to kidnap a..innocent woman. It was against the code. Was the hate between the two races so bad that they had resorted to stealing young women out of their beds? He gave a shake of his head, trying to push all thoughts from his head. He needed to be focused and if he was second guessing his actions..well..he wouldn't be concentrating very well.

At last, Riari could see the large building that he was searching for. He quickly dropped down to the roof, near a window. He shifted, feeling his bones and skin breaking or ripping. When he was finished with the transformation, Riari made sure that he appeared decent. Luckily, the Nysir had developed a amulet that was worn by only the most well off beings. The amulet allowed the wearer to shift between forms without ever loosing their clothing or equipment. In Riari's line of work, the amulet was priceless.

The Nysir quietly opened the large window and entered into the large building. He kept himself glued to the wall, keeping to the shadows. He was lucky. It seemed that there were barely any guards patrolling the corridors. It was easy for him to make his way to the royal wing of the giant building. He had just come across a set of large double doors. He assumed that this was the ruling couple's chambers. He continued on, dodging all guards that were walking about. Finally, Riari found a single door, one that was very clean and expensive looking. He look around, making sure that no guards had seen him before silently opening the door.

He made his way into the chambers, looking around. There was a door to the right and so he went through that one as well. Against the far wall, near a very large window, was a bed that had a sleeping form in it. Quietly, Riari approached. Once he'd reached the bed, the Nysir, looked at the female's face. This was his target. He only had one option. He quickly pulled out of his daggers and placed it gently at her throat. Then, he placed a hand over her mouth, gently shaking her..trying to wake her slowly. "If you scream..or make any noise..I will end your life. Get up slowly." The Nysir watched the young woman closely. If she tried anything..well, he would hate to have to hurt her. The longer that he was able to remain hidden, the better. He only hoped that his current job would prove easy for him.

Serafina had fought with her parents before bed. They were down in the dining hall, the servants had just brought out their meals and she was halfheartedly picking at hers, not even bothering to pretend she was eating any of it. Neither parent cared, they were too busy chatting away at the advancement on their side, discussing their new "plan" to get rid of the Nysir. Her mind went back to that little girl she had met when she was four or five and had gotten lost in the gardens of the castle, somehow ending up outside the walls. The girl was a doe when she first approached her, then a nude child like her when she was human. Her hair had been like Raffy's, long and wavy, except it was very dark colored. Raffy had, well, been jealous of the girl. Why did she get to run around without clothes? Why did she get the pretty hair that Raffy had always wanted? Neither of her parents had her wretched orange hair, her fathers was black- white now, actually -and her mothers was a wheat color. Apparently her grandmother had her hair, and the cursed gene always skipped a generation and was passed on to the females of the family.

Besides that, she was jealous that this girl got to run around at all, without the constant supervision that she had, as a princess. It was a miracle she had managed to slip away this time, she had hidden in the bushes and waited for the guards to start looking for her before running off. Though usually nudity wouldn't bother a child, Raffy had felt uncomfortable, and removed her coat and thrust it out towards the girl. She had taken it, not saying anything to her. It wasn't long after that the guards found her and brought her home, but she remembers very well that one stayed behind, waiting until they thought she was out of sight to take the other little girl and drag her away. No matter how many times she slipped away and tried to find her again, she was not there. Raffy was alone in this world, that she had long before decided. Rarely did she even leave the castle, unless it was with four or more guards and she was ordered to go down to town to greet the townspeople. She had no friends, no siblings, only her songs and the occasional bird that landed on her windowsill to rely on.

It wasn't until long after this incident that she found out about the other species, and found a new reason to hate her father. The little girl had done nothing wrong, and they had probably executed her. Hearing her father talk like he did, it just made her angry, it fired her up and that red hair finally made sense. She had a fuse as long as her pinkie, and it only took a warm breath to alight it. "You have no idea what you're talking about." Raffy said, rolling her eyes as they abruptly stopped speaking and turned to stare at her, something they did when she was being "rude". "Don't look at me like that, you're the ones being rude." Her mother was the first to bounce back. "Fina dear-" her father cut in, "Go up to your room Serafina, now, and think about what you said. Do not come out until you are ready to apologize."

Thus how she ended up in her room since half-midnight, singing quietly to herself and once again rearranging her dresses. Sometimes she wished she didn't have to wear them, other times she was sort of glad because she didn't have to wear those silly outfits that men wore. To bed though, she did wear pants and a nightshirt, instead of a dress like she knew most women did. It was a compromise her and her parents had made, since no one would ever actually be seeing her in bed until she was married off, at least that's what her father hoped. She complied though, not wanting to see some fool beheaded because of her.

It was much later when she finally fell asleep, and not long after that she was awoken to the feeling of cold metal on her throat and a hand over her mouth, a quiet voice warning her not to make any noises. Her eyes were wide and her body felt frozen, her brain not yet processing the situation. It probably would have been better if he had just knocked her out, she thought, without actually realizing that she was thinking of better ways he could have kidnapped her. Very slightly, she nodded her head, careful to stay away from the sharp knife at her throat. From here on out, she would listen to whatever he told her to do, most likely at least.

Riari's blue eyes were completely focused on the young woman that was now awake. Looking down at her, he did feel slightly bad that he was taking her from her home. "Get up." he said, removing his hand from her mouth. He removed the knife from her throat, taking a step back to allow her room to do as he'd ordered. "Get dressed and grab anything that you absolutely can't live without." he said, keeping his piercing eyes on the female. He was being far too kind. He only hoped that she would listen to him. As he waited for her to get ready, the Nysir moved to stand in front of the door, preventing the female from being able to leave the room. Suddenly, he heard yelling. Damn it. "Time to go." he said. The Nysir quickly made his way to the woman, grabbing her arm. He led the way over to the large window and then opened it. He looked down at the roof that led out towards a large lake. He quickly made his way over the window sill and then turned to help the princess out of her room.

Suddenly, the door opened that led to the rest of the woman's chambers. Several guards came flooding towards them. This was not what he needed. He moved the princess far enough away from the window so that it would take her a good few long strides to reach, and then he released her arm. He took only a step away from her before quickly shifting into his other form. Riari spent most of his time in this form and as such he was glad to be back in it. He quickly turned his head to look at the princess and then took off from the roof. He quickly moved around so that he was heading straight towards the princess. His wings were tucked in close to his body, allowing him to fly quicker towards the female. He could see the guards now, trying to get to her. Just as the first was about to grab her hand, Riari's taloned feet grabbed a hold of the princess's upper body. He was as gentle as he could be, quickly flapping his wings forcing his body away from the palace.

As they flew, Riari was silent for some time. Someone had alerted the guards to his arrival. It would only be a matter of time before the King was alerted to exactly what had taken his daughter. After some time, when they were flying close to a giant forest that would eventually lead to a large mountain range that split the world, Riari dived down low to the ground and then slowed his speed considerably. When he was certain that the fall would not harm the girl, he released her from his grip. He, too, then landed. He turned around, facing the princess. His eyes were completely focused one her.
'You may call me Riari. I'm..afraid that I have not been been informed of your name, M'lady.' He slightly bowed his head towards the princess, trying to remember his manners. 'Forgive the rude awakening I forced upon you. I..am a assassin and have been hired to retrieve you for a patron. I'm sorry.'The Nysir raised his head, still watching the princess. He could only imagine what she was thinking. The least he could do was be kind to her..as long as she caused him no trouble.

Serafina nodded and got up quickly, not remembering to give herself a moment to orient herself. She was glad that the man had been retreating towards the door and probably hadn't seen her stumbling, at least. After giving herself a moment, she went over to her dresser, planning on putting on the boy's clothes she had bought one day down in the market, the ones she only wore when she was trying to sneak out, and grabbing her drawing pad. If he was going to take her away, she might as well have something to do. It occurred to her that she wasn't as nearly alarmed as she probably should have been. Just as she had picked up her clothes and pad, she heard yelling, but the man was already coming towards her. He must be a Nysir, she thought, or she just had terrible hearing. Her things were still on the dresser though, and she snatched them up quickly before he pulled her away, leading her towards the window. At least there was a ledge, which he put her on and stepped away. Did he expect her to jump or something? She turned to look towards the guards, one climbing threw the window already. But he wasn't fast enough, just as he was about to grab onto her she was knocked into, or maybe pulled away, it was hard to tell with how fast it was. All she knew was it knocked the breath out of her, and she had to concentrate very hard to keep her things in her hands.

Luckily for her, she did not need to hold on to her things for very long. Long talons- at least they looked like talons -were wrapped around her, pressing her arms tight against her sides and locking her hands together in the process, making it literally impossible for her to drop the things. It seemed like forever that she stayed like that, at least long enough fr her limbs to cramp up and her arms to grow sore. Though it left her with lots of time to think which was actually more of a bad thing than a good one. She was questioning why she didn't mind so much that she had been stolen from her sleep in the middle of the night, why she wasn't screaming her head off at the creature that was carrying her, wasn't freaking out over the fact that he was a Nysir, who hated her species and was probably going to kill her. There wasn't really a logical reason, she decided. Even though she tried to tell herself that it was only because she was still tired and wasn't processing things correctly, she knew it wasn't true. She didn't mind being stolen away because she didn't mind not being with her parents anymore. Raffy wouldn't miss them. They would only notice she was gone for the public, probably. And she had no friends to miss, or really any life at all.

Awhile later they landed, or he landed and she dropped to the ground in a heap. Reorienting herself on the ground again, she stretched out and stood up, looking around curiously. The Princess didn't seem angry, not even annoyed other than for being dropped to the ground so carelessly. You are not a very good assassin if you're apologizing, Riari. She told him flatly, smiling to herself on the inside. Are you not supposed to be completely emotionless? There was a way she spoke, so formal and so elegantly, every word had it's own personal melody. I wish to, but I suppose you would not tell me who it is you are bringing me to even if I asked. An eyebrow was quirked, but she didn't expect an answer unless he really was going to tell her. You may call me Raf- Serafina. The speaking-in-her-head part freaked her out a little bit, but she tried not to show it.

The Nysir tilted his head at the young woman and narrowed his eyes slightly. He finally folded his wings in close to his body. Riari was unsure of how to react to..Serafina's earlier comments. He was being rather kind to her. He wasn't sure why, though. He would have to correct it. He moved, then, taking a few steps towards her.'Come. We must leave this place. I believe that we'll walk for today. Do not make me regret allowing you freedom.'Riari slowly began walking, leading the way. He kept his gaze forward but would quite often look to make sure that Serafina was indeed following. After he was certain that the young woman wasn't going to run from him, he quickly shifted into his other form, not losing stride. He was being rather silent now. He was not glad that he'd been the one sent on this job. Though, that did not bother him nearly as much as the thought of someone alerting the palace guards to his arrival.

Riari couldn't understand who would do that..and why. When they arrived back at the groups headquarters, he would be seeing to this problem. After they had been traveling for some time, Riari looked up to the sky. The sun was just beginning to come up. In that moment, he felt as if perhaps he should have allowed the princess to have gotten some rest before now. They were coming up to a small village. "We'll be stopping up ahead." he said, though he offered up no clue as to the name of the village or its true location.

The Nysir slowed his pace slightly, allowing himself to walk next to Serafina. It wasn't long before they entered into the village. Riari quickly saw the local inn. He took off walking towards it. Being so early, there was almost no one out of their homes yet. When they reached the inn door, the Nysir opened it, allowing the princess to enter first. Once inside, the Nysir approached the counter and got them a room. Riari led the way up the flight of stairs and then down a long hall. When he came to the door that would led into their room, Riari unlocked it and then proceeded to open it. He waited for Serafina to enter and then followed her in. He shut the door and re-locked it. The room that he'd rented had two small beds, one on each side of the room. There was a window that faced out onto the main part of the village. A small fireplace was also in the room, which would help to keep them warm as the walls of the building weren't very thick. There was also a small table near one of the beds. Riari slid his pack from around his body, laying it next to the bed closest the door. "Serafina, are you hungry or would you rather sleep first?" Riari eyed the young woman, his blue eyes taking in everything he could see about her. He was..surprised that she had listened to him earlier..when he'd ordered her to get ready so that they could leave her home. Why? Did she..possibly not like her current life? If so, why?

Serafina almost desperately wanted to change into the clothes in her hands, or at least put them on over top off the ones she had on now. There was a chill in the air that had her shivering, but she tried to ignore it. Neither pairs of clothes were very thick, her night clothes were not because her parents did not want her wearing them out, and the others because they used to belong to her friend and he had worn them many times, making the fabric very thin. Her friend had been an orphan, one she befriended at a young age and would never stop talking about at home. Eventually she just sort of took him home with her and didn't let him leave. They decided he was to be her "companion" of a sort, like an animal would be, but this was an actual person they were talking about. Up until maybe fifteen or sixteen they allowed him to go everywhere with her, he was even tutored with her. And then it was deemed too "risky" to let them stay together anymore, since Raffy was a young lady and he was a hormonal young man. Given money to start his own life, he was sent out of the city with a horse and his very few belongings. Raffy still thought about him sometimes. Though she did not miss him, she could not. He would be having a better life now than he ever could have stuck as her companion.

Though he did not give her time, and she would not ask it of him. They would have to stop at some point, and then she could change if she wished. For a moment she allowed herself to wonder what he was planning on doing with her, but she quickly veered away from that subject. She did not want to know, and she would not worry about it. Whatever happened, would happen. There was little she could do to stop it, in her mind. And even in reality, he probably had weapons, even without them he had an advantage with being a freaking huge beast in his other form. She would lose, unless she could find something sharp and surprise him. Even then though, he had the upper hand with probably being trained in fighting, and he was certainly bigger and stronger than she was. Not to mention that without him, there was no way she was going to get out of these woods alive, so either way she was stuck. Might as well follow him around and figure out what happened, right? Seemed like good enough of an idea then.

Raffy followed him towards the Inn, falling behind a few steps. Though he seemed unconcerned, as if he would not expect her to try and run, scream for someone to help her. He was right though, many things came to mind, and she did nothing. Just followed the maniac who had kidnapped her in the middle of the night, and could change into a huge eagle-looking thing. Up in the room, she stayed by the door as he locked it, watching him set his bag on the bed closer to the door and even still there when he asked what she wanted to do. I wish to change. The Princess said finally, making a little twirling motion with her finger to gesture for him to turn around. She went to her own bed and set down her book before beginning to peel off her clothes. Afterwards she ended up in a pair of brown trousers, a white button shirt, and a brown vest that she hoped might keep her at least a little warmer. Now I am ready to eat, sir.

When the princess informed his that she wished to change, Riari's eyes watched as she made a motion with her finger. He silently obeyed her, turning so that he could not see her. For all he knew, Serafina was planning on attacking him from behind. He should not have turned his back on her. It was lesson number one. He wasn't quite sure what had made him go against his instinct. When the princess spoke again, Riari turned back to face her. His eyes took in her new outfit. She certainly didn't look like a princess in her new choice of clothing. Though her clothing wasn't nearly as dark as his, it would serve to keep any unwanted attention from them. Riari debated with himself for a short moment. Should he allow her out of the room? After a few short moments, Riari decided that though they were a fair distance away from the palace that he could not risk letting her wander around the property. It was bad enough that a few people had seen her when they'd entered.

He turned his gaze to Serafina. "You will remain in this room. I'll return momentarily with something for us. Is there anything in particular that you would prefer?" he asked, his eyes never leaving the princess. He gave her plenty of time to answer him and then he turned his back on her once again and left the room. He made his way slowly back down the stairs and to the main floor of the inn. He quickly spoke with the innkeeper and informed him what it was that he needed. He only had to wait a few minutes before the innkeeper was handing him a small tray with food and drink. Riari slowly made his way bacck up the stairs and into the room. Once inside, he made his way over to the small table and sat the tray down. "I hope this is all right. I'm sure that it's not the best meal that you've ever had however it will do for now." he said, simply regarding the young woman.

Riari quickly fixed Serafina a plate of food and offered it to her. He wondered if she would even take it from him. He could not blame her if she didn't. He then poured a drink for her and handed that to her as well. "Eat and then you should get some rest. We will not be leaving until tomorrow morning. I'm certain that you must be exhausted." He then fixed himself a plate and made his way over to his bed, sitting down. He began eating, taking his time. It had been some time since his last meal and he'd not realized just how hungry he was. It didn't take him very long to finish eating. When he was done, Riari placed his plate back on the tray. He then made his way back to his bed and sat once again. He was silent once again, wondering what was going through the princess's mind. She most likely had no idea what was going to happen to her. Unfortunately, that was something that Riari could not speak of to her.
