Introduction
It is the future. Humans have built up technology to the point where robots have taken them over and enslaved them (Wait, like in The Matrix? Um... yeah...kind of... shhh!). These robots aren't interested in an energy source. These robots are looking for a way of producing more sentinent robots. Ignorant of how their own minds work, they have only one solution: use human minds. Yeah, braaaiiinnns, that sort of thing. Many initial experiments failed, but the robots eventually figured out how to create a fully-functional robot using a human mind as the source of its intelligence. Then they used their crude programming skills to find out how to make these creatures think like robots instead of humans. Eventually, they were able to mass-produce them. Success, right? Well... as it turns out, every time one of these new human-robots has a near-death experience, the old human mind awakens and takes total posession over the being. Problem. Big problem. The robot government set up special "safe" areas and for the creatures and programmed/reprogrammed them to lead cautious lives. Then they set up armed forces of "true" robots to catch any human-robots that wake up regardless. Problem solved? Pretty much. However, even a good plan has its holes...
Meet 0047. He had a near-death experience with a robot bike in his community. It changed his life forever--namely, made him aware that he had one. He never told anyone. He named himself Steelhand.
Meet 1009. She was one of the earlier robots who woke up. She helped establish the fact that near death experiences do indeed awaken the human mind. She woke up before the robot police was created, so she was able to run away into the wilderness. She named herself Sky.
Meet 5700. She was one of the successful experiments that paved the way for the whole mass production of sentinent robots. She had her thoughts together from the start and has lived in a laboratory her whole life. She named herself Free.
Now forget you met them. They all ended up dead.
