Introduction

--Warning--

This is not one of those 'human girls get captured by male vampires', romance kind of RP. Romance is of course permitted, but vampires are by no means the 'twinkly, sexy' twilight kind.

Basic Overview:
For many years, two factions have been struggling against one another in a battle for supremacy. The vampire assassin guild Einseigrad Sparuda ('Crimson Sword') and the vampire hunter group, the Vanatoare ('Hunters') each attempt to subdue the other completely: the Einseigrad Sparuda desire more power for vampires over humans and in the world, while the Vanatoare fight to keep humanity safe from the threat of the Einseigrad Sparuda.

This is an RP based off the Blood Alone manga series. You don't need to worry if you haven't read the series: I'll run over the basics of what you need to know about it in this OOC.

About Vampires and the Factions
Vampires are a lot like what they are traditionally: they require blood, first and foremost. If they are severely injured, then only the consumption of blood can heal a vampire to full health. If they don't get blood regularly, they become gradually weaker and weaker, and ultimately die. A human becomes a vampire if they consume the blood of a vampire who has consumed the human's blood. They do not age physically, and are more or less immortal, but they can certainly be killed. Vampires possess many abilities, which will be detailed below.

The abilities of vampires can be different, but there is one 'power' that they all possess: Farumek, a form of hypnosis that works on humans and low-level vampires. When the vampire's target is under the influence of Farumek, they become unable to resist, and will do whatever the vampire tells them. Also, vampires all have some degree of superhuman strength, speed, and agility: typically, the older the vampire, the greater their physical advantage. Elder vampires (vampires above the age of 500 years) develop their own ability, known as their 'Aruta': some elders can create multiple copies of themselves, others can 'slash' a target from afar with an invisible sword-like power, and others can morph an arm into a sword--the Aruta is always different for each Elder. Finally, all vampires can create a 'Renfield': a Renfield is created when a human drinks the blood of a vampire who has not drunk from the human. It allows greatly prolonged life, and enhanced physical abilities, but the Renfield is more or less chained to the vampire: moving too far from the vampire causes the Renfield great pain. A vampire can create as many Renfields as they like.

Vampires are not the only beings with powers: most Vanatoare also possess superhuman speed and strength, though most cannot use the 'magic-like' powers of vampires.

Finally, the different organisations at work. The Einseigrad Sparuda are an ancient vampire assassination guild, favoured by vampires who have attracted the attention of the Vanatoare, or by those who need someone dispatched quickly and without trace. Lately, however, they have been growing in influence, attempting to gain further power across the world, and many of its members have begun to hold the belief that vampires, as superior beings, should be the dominant race in the world while humans should be enslaved.

That is where the Vanatoare come in. Even the Vanatoare themselves are unsure exactly when their organisation came into existence, but throughout their history they have struggled against the Einseigrad Sparuda, as well as taking upon themselves the duty to protect humans from violent vampires. The Vanatoare as an organisation are by no means discriminatory against vampires--though some of its members are: it wishes not to wipe out or destroy vampires but to protect humans from vampires who would inflict harm on them.

Then there are other groups: orphans are vampires who belong to no 'blood clan', blood clans being groups of vampires who are related by the fact that they were all turned by members of that blood clan. An orphan, likely a human who was turned by force and left by the vampire who turned them, is likely to attack humans for blood, and thus many orphans are targetted by the Vanatoare. There are also deadly rogue vampires, usually powerful elders who leave their blood clan and often go on hunting sprees against humans.

Rules

-Abide by the rules of Roleplay Gateway.
-No godmodding without the permission of the other player.
-Keep romance PG-13. Romance is permitted and encouraged, as it adds to the story, but going further than kissing is not permitted.
-Blood and violence are of course permitted, given what kind of roleplay it is--but know where to draw the line. No one wants to read an entire post of gory, grisly, nausea inducing murder.
-Respect those with whom you RP
-Finally--I cannot stress this enough--POST AT LEAST A PARAGRAPH OF EIGHT SENTENCES. One liners are RP murderers and I will give only two warnings to those who write one liners. And good grammar and spelling is a must. Sounds minor, but it is true that paragraphs written in slang spelling and crappy grammar are more likely to doom an RP because no one wants to wade through all that and decipher it into an ordinary language :/

"So the Einseigrad Sparuda need me again, eh..."

A lone figure was silhouetted in the moonlight that streamed through the vast window overlooking the tiny European town. A single gloved hand rose to rub the figure's chin thoughtfully, before sweeping back the curtain of long black hair that fell down past his shoulders. He then turned, throwing into detail the features of Count Elias Craven, dimly lit by the moonlight.

"Well, I suppose I'm not busy. Except when every now and then the Vanatoare send someone after me...my, they are persistent, aren't they...never learning." Craven continued to speak, as if to himself. However, in the shadows, seated in a chair at the side wall, was a man--not a vampire, as evidenced by the lack of fangs, but a Renfield, one of Craven's many little servants. The Renfield stared blankly at Craven, as if barely comprehending what he was saying; Craven dismissed him with a wave of his hand. "Ah, why should I even try to speak to a Renfield...you are, if anything, even more inferior than the humans, if that were possible." The Renfield made no move and said nothing, though a quiver in his eyes could clearly be seen. Craven smirked lightly before turning back to the view of the European town.

"I don't doubt the Vanatoare and the Einseigrad Sparuda know I'm here...in fact, I'm surprised they haven't sent someone yet. The Vanatoare, to attempt to kill me yet again, and the Einseigrad Sparuda, to beg me yet again for help against the Vanatoare." He shook his head with a sigh.

"Like children playing games."

She lounged on the couch in the corner of the dimly lit room, her eyes locked upon the gun that twirled 'round and 'round in the boy's hands. Was it loaded? She wondered for a moment... silently wishing that he might point it at her and pull the trigger, just to see. Though, she knew it would never happen. The Zumoi were too big on honor and dignity. To be a vampire was a precious gift, so why would one want to throw it all way? The boy reclining back in the chair sighed. He was right, they hadn't done anything all day and the clan in general was rather bored. A few of the elder vampires were out scouting. It seemed to Marrow that they were secretly working on an assignment, however they weren't letting any of the younger clan members in on it.

"Want to go out and cause some trouble Marrow?" The boy finally asked, his name was Castius, but, because he was not very fond of that name, everyone just called him C. He was a vampire of only 264 years, only a little older than Marrow, and therefore was left in the "den" as well. "The night is still young, we might as well make use of it while we can."

Marrow's large grey eyes blinked back at him. They were somewhat vacant as always, but maybe it was only the boredom showing. Still, she reluctantly sighed. "What for?" She asked. "We still have a full stock of blood that is sure to last us for this month, maybe a few more, there has been no word on any violent vampires in this area, not any that the Vanatoare haven't eliminated..."

She had always unconsciously ignored the possibility that she could actually go out and have fun on these hours of downtime. For some reason the stories told of the Vanatoare always frightened Marrow, who saw them as nothing but bloodthirsty killers (ironic no?). She felt as if as soon as she stepped foot outside they would be able to follow her every move... though that was silly. Afterall, they were only mortals. However, it wasn't long before C. had suggested it. "Fine," Marrow answered, finally giving in to her yawns. After running into their separate rooms and changing into warmer clothes, for Marrow a long-sleeved grey dress and a red drawstring jacket, they ascended the stairs from the Zumoi's den, which was really the basement of the apartment building they called home, and onto the cracked streets. At this time of night, there wasn't a lot of activity in the area, and Marrow hated the fact that they would be alone and easy to spot. She took comfort that as soon as they made their way into town the buildings, streets, and sidewalks would still be alive. All she had to do was make it through this dead silence first...

Jack Kuroe leaned against the wall of a faltering little house that looked as if it were falling apart: the walls were cracked, and there was the smell of...the smell of age in the stark grey walls. Further up the village, the closer one got to the little house that stood on the hill, the houses seemed to get progressively neater: this part of town was something of the 'low class' area.

It was a quiet little town: Jack would have liked it if not for one small problem. This was the home of Count Elias Craven.

Even as Jack thought the name, the scar on his cheek seemed to burn somewhat, and his eyes squinted with anger as he looked up at the house perched on the great hill. Perhaps up in that house, Count Craven was looking back down at Jack.

Shaking his head, Jack returned to his assignment: find the Zumoi. The Vanatoare and the Zumoi didn't work together often, but they had cooperated on occasion to take down the more powerful elders--and Count Craven was certainly a powerful elder. Jack himself was something like an ambassador to the Zumoi, so he met them often. He felt no animosity towards the Zumoi, even if some of them didn't seem to like him: he even got along well with a few.

As he began walking, he became absent minded, thinking of the Zumoi and of their upcoming mission against Count Craven. Hopefully they would find him alone: it would be even more difficult if the Einseigrad Sparuda had--

Without noticing the girl in front of him, Jack walked almost right into her. "Sorr--" the word began to form, but it was cut short as Jack realised the girl was a vampire: as a Vanatoare, that was something he could detect. His hand flew to the dagger at his side: a gun was useless against all but the lowest of orphan vampires.

"You...are you from the Zumoi?" he asked. He hadn't gotten a good look at Marrow, so if he had met her before when meeting the Zumoi, he couldn't tell.

She became less anxious as they had traveled a little ways down the sidewalk. C. was whistling some kind of melody and walked happily beside her, lightening the darkness somewhat with his merry attitude. Still, she pulled on the insides of her jacket, tugging it tighter around her as they came closer and closer to the city where some bars, inns, and tourist attractions lay. All seemed well until Marrow felt a bump on her shoulder, and sensed the breath of a human. "Sorr..." they began to speak but stopped. "You... are you from the Zumoi?" He asked.

Marrow tighened her grip on her jacket and looked down. She saw that the man had reached for a dagger at his side and she gulped. This wasn't ordinary. No ordinary human would know just by a glance, and normally people didn't walk around with daggers in their sidepockets. "No," she said, her eyes roaming away. She began to walk faster, but C. reached out and caught her hand as she passed.

"Wait," he said. "I recognize you. Jack Kuroe right?" He walked closer to the gentleman and began talking in a lower whisper. "Last year you helped our elders track down that rogue in Borwick, correct?"

The vampire in Borwick? Marrow remembered that one. Bodies, drained of blood, were turning up in the alleyways of the small parish. Though the Zumoi rarely ever got into contact with the Einseigrad Sparuda, since they had very different ideals than the clan, they had heard from one of its sources it was one of the usual elders who had left their blood clan. Marrow was not allowed to participate in the assignment. Not that it had mattered. At the time she was grateful for being left out, having heard that the elders were working in cooperation with some of the Vanatoare...

"Ah," was all Marrow uttered. She looked down and realized that C. was still gripping her hand, probably fearing that she'd run away, and yanked it from him, rubbing the spot where his fingers had left red marks.

((I'm thinking of making C. a more prominent character too... so can I submit two characters Tali?))

Jack paused as the girl said no to his question, and made to continue walking. However, the boy grabbed her by the hand, and turned back to Jack. The boy recalled the time when Jack had been sent to work with the Zumoi to take down a powerful rogue who had been hunting in Borwick. It took only a second before Jack recognised him.

"Ah, C.," Jack nodded, remembering the boy--or rather, the vampire, who was about ten times older than Jack himself. "Yes, that was me." Realising he still held the long dagger in his hand, Jack muttered a quick "sorry..." and returned it to his side before looking back down at C. "So...are you two the ones the Zumoi sent for this mission?" There wasn't a condescending note in Jack's voice, nothing to indicate he thought the two before him were inadequate for this mission--he knew firsthand that when it came to vampires, appearances could and often were deceiving. "I trust you've been briefed on what our mission here is?"

A young man sat at the bar in a local empty coffee shop. Raenin Noctai sat quietly, sipping from his coffee mug, matching the calming atmosphere. He wore rather smart dress, yet carried with him a guitar case, and a dark green trench coat that currently sat crumpled beside the case, which made for an odd combination of clothing when donned. When the waitress walked by he waved her over with a beckoning motion of his hand. "Excuse me Miss. Another cup would be greatly appreciated." She smiled and nodded, taking his mug. "Thank you", he replied.

The woman returned with his coffee and he gave her a nod and a smile taking it from her hands. He turned his head suddenly to the door and set his cup down. He paused for a minute, his eyes fixated to the entrance. He began reaching for his guitar case with a slow caution. The door opened and he kicked the case backwards, hidden behind another wall and rolled backwards out of his seat next to his case out of sight.

Another young man entered the cafe. He seemed as though a typical human, but Raenin could tell by his bulging upper lip he was a vampire. Luckily the man hadn't seen him. The vampire walked up the bar, he was uneasy. He leapt upon the waitress and barred his fangs, preparing to feed.

Raenin cleared his throat very audibly. "You want blood? I'll give you the whole damn head." He said in a cold voice. The vampire turned to view his opponent only to see a young man with snow white hair standing at the end of a 5 foot long sniper rifle in his face, wielded with one hand. The vampire's feature only read of pure horror. With a slow smirk making its way to Raenin's face he pulled the trigger. The blood-sucker's face burst, leaving nothing above the neck, splattering blood in a great stream over the waitress, who screamed in terror, and coating the floor around her.

Raenin said nothing, but turned and returned his rifle to his home in the guitar case. He took the vampire's wallet, removed half the money and toss the rest to the woman, then reclaimed his seat at the bar, and continued drinking his coffee as though nothing had even occurred.

"I..." Marrow began to tell the man that she had not been briefed on anything. Whatever this Jack was referring to must have been something the elders were discussing.

"We have been briefed," C. said, before she had a chance to say anything.

"We have not!" Marrow scolded him. "You're only going to land yourself in trouble again if you keep on telling lies like this!"

"I have been briefed Marrow."

She blinked confused eyes. "So... I'm the only one who doesn't know?"

He nodded. "Though we were going to tell you once plans were finalized. Now that Jack is here, I guess it's about time for you to know anyways."

She couldn't believe it. She had been a member of the Zumoi Clan for almost 200 years now, and they still didn't trust her with a majority of the missions, afraid that her inexperience might jeapordize them. Though they trusted C., who was twice as immature and stupid than she. Not only had she completed more missions than C., where he left mayhem and never cleaned up the mess he left in his wake she kept things secretive and on the downlow. If anyone was jeapordizing the Clan, it wasn't her. Her eyes darkened, with anger or sadness she wasn't sure. "Then what is the mission?" She asked Jack, with a melancholy voice.

Jack looked from C. to Marrow, apparently rather taken aback that the Zumoi had briefed one of them and not the other. Apparently they intended for Jack to brief Marrow himself, when he hardly knew what he was doing either. Of course he had been briefed to full detail, but it all seemed like a suicide mission: one Vanatoare and two vampires were being sent to this little European village to track down Count Elias Craven. Track down, that was all they said. The higher-ups didn't mention killing Craven--which was absurd to think of anyway--or incapacitating him somehow: they ordered him merely to track the dangerous rogue down. But if they were going to be tracking Count Craven down, then it would have to end with either Craven, or Jack and the Zumoi, dying. And Jack didn't like how the odds were making that look.

"Well, there's no need to be angry," he added hastily, noticing the dark look in the girl's eyes. "I can brief you just as well as they did...which isn't very well." He cleared his throat a bit. "Well, our mission here is to track down Count Elias Craven...I trust that you are aware of Count Craven's presence in this town? Apparently, the higher ups of the Zumoi and the Vanatoare consider one single Vanatoare and two vampires adequate to take on a rogue like Craven...no offense to you two, of course," he added quickly, hoping he didn't come off as arrogant and condescending. "Anyway...I've seen Count Craven in action. The most important thing is...stay well away from him. His aruta allows him to make slashes with something like an invisible sword 10 or so metres out, so he's deadly at close range."

Elias Craven? She was well aware of his prescence in this town. That, afterall, was what she believed the elders were up to all along. They had left two days ago. Since then Marrow and C. hadn't... Then she realized they weren't coming back. Because this was C. and Marrow's mission, not theirs. But why would they send two young and less experienced vampires in to track the Count? They should know how risky of a move that would be. Probably because of just that. Their prescence wouldn't be as strong as that of some of the elders. It would be more efficient to track Craven if they could remain unnoticed. Still, she seemed to think this impossible. Just as how the Vanatore felt to her, it felt as if there were eyes everywhere... There probably were. She had the sinking feeling in her gut that they would not be able to make it out of this mission unscaved. Maybe that would be a good thing. The Zumoi would let her leave this world with honor... though not by her own hand.

She sighed and lowered her head, biting her bottom lip as she thought. "I am not angry... I don't get angry." She justified herself before continuing. "So once we find the Count, where do we go from there?" Now Marrow was a little more nervous. After thinking about 'eyes everywhere,' she couldn't help her eyes from roaming through the shadows and darkness. On the rooftops and balconys. She was completely paranoid. "Also... I think we should head back to the apartment. Since this is a private matter...

Allen Walks lightly and slowly up the hill to two people that he had felt from a bit away. He sees the outline of them. He softly smiles to himself. Well isn't this nice a vampire and his Renfield right here where people can see. He walks closer not saying a thing He sees the face of the vampire it was the man that the Einseigrad Sparuda said was Craven. Allen smiles bigger and walks closer still not letting Craven know he was there. He walks up behind him and wispers "Craven."

Craven smirked as the elder known as Allen 'Jack Knife' Kane snuck up on him--or at least, thought he was sneaking up on Craven. If Allen truly believed he could get anywhere within Craven's little sphere without Craven detecting him, then Allen was not worthy of being an Einseigrad Sparuda--or at least, Craven believed so. Unfortunately, the Sparuda were accepted nearly any vampire who shared their belief these days. There had been a time when only the most violent or powerful vampires were permitted to be counted amongst the ranks of the Einseigrad Sparuda--but that time was long gone.

"Kane."

Count Craven spoke the one word before turning to face Allen with a charming smirk; a charming smirk behind which a powerful menace could be felt. It seemed, suddenly, that many more Renfields appeared; rather, they became known to Kane, all wearing the same suits, all wearing the same unfeeling expression.

"I had expected the Einseigrad Sparuda to come here soon. It seems the Vanatoare are stepping up their attacks on you, and it was only a matter of when you would require the aid of the Count." Clearly, Count Craven was well aware of his reputation. "I'm surprised they sent you, though. I was under the impression that the elder who had come here last would return again. What was his name..." Craven feigned inability to remember. "Meran Moreau, that was it. Excellent vampire, that one. However, no matter. What is it the Einseigrad Sparuda wants of me this time?"

There were two things in life, or rather un-death, that Meran despised above all other things. The first of those two things happened to be his dreaded, long time nemesis; Turkeys, the devils of the sky and a continual fear of the boy since he’d first reached the age of seven some hundred something years ago. Keeping track of the years that rolled by had never exactly been his strong point and all he really seemed to care about in regards to those horrendous creatures was whether or not someone was going to completely decimate their evil souls.

The second of those things Meran happened to despise was a decidedly more reasonable thing when it came down to it; sleepy villages. They were bland, they were boring, and above all else, the people who lived there tasted little better than animals. Yet, there he found himself, strolling wearily down the practically empty, darkened streets of yet another small European village irritably judging the taste of whatever humans walked by in his desire for food.

When he’d been assigned to track down Craven, along with some other member of the Einseigrad whose name he hardly remembered nor ultimately cared to, he’d half expected to be sent to a metropolis or the like. A place where people were numerous and his favorite flavor of blood, haughtiness, was found in almost every man, woman, or child who walked by; a marvelous place. Instead, he had once more been sent to a village on the bottom of society, forced to weigh whether he’d rather risk keeping the most disgusting taste ever in his mouth or simply go hungry for however long it took to return to actual society.

Sighing once more, in his usual dramatic way, Meran warily decided on the latter of his two options, rolling the lollipop teetering from his mouth absently. He’d have to go find Craven soon then, lest he be forced to remain in this dead end town longer than he already would…When he got back though, he swore there would be a “sudden” spike in missing persons reports…

Jack watched the girl with a bit of curiosity. She seemed quite angry, though the Zumoi knew and had told them of Craven's presence in the town. He could probably guess why she was angry: the Zumoi, as far as Jack knew, had left the town just after informing the Vanatoare that they would leave two operatives to aid them in attempting to apprehend Craven. And he couldn't blame her: he would have been pissed off as well if his superiors had abandoned him like that.

"A good point," Jack said. "My information concludes that Craven should be the only vampire we need to worry about here, but he has countless Renfields...in that case, I'll follow you two, and we can prepare for the mission once we get to the apartment." As they walked, he remained silent, and the three didn't seem altogether strange. If anything, they looked like three siblings, with Jack, of course, being the eldest--though this was, of course, as wrong as one could be.

"For some reason I don't think that true..." C. said, as they continued to walk, approaching the apartment. "I don't know... maybe I'm just being superstitious, but I have a feeling he isn't the only one we have to worry about..."

They approached the staircase that led to the basement of the apartment. The door was locked and bared with chains. Marrow reached down into her shoe and pulled out a key. She jotted down the staircase and began undoing the locks. The chains fell to the ground and she opened the door, which creaked on its hinges as it swung inward. She motioned her hand for them to move forward.

"There do seem to be more vampires at work here than we might account for," she added, as she waited for them to follow.

C. looked at Jack with a smile. "Welcome to our humble abode... for the time being. Ignore the the mice, I find they're actually quite friendly." With that he jogged down the stairwell as well and inside. Once out of sight and into the darkness, he could be heard muttering something about his guns and ammo.

(If you want to come up with a basic description of the interior Rei by all means do :P. It's just a raggedy ran down apartment building, the foyer, lobby, and rooms upstairs are falling to pieces, but the brick basement is still good. So that's what the Zumoi (well C. and Marrow) were using as a base.)

Raenin wandered the streets of the town. His hands in his pockets he stared up into the night sky. "It seems so peaceful here," he said thinking aloud. "which means it's a prime target for vampire raids." He strolled along, still, bored as possible. He hadn't had a job in a few weeks, and had only gotten $103 off that vampire he had slain in the cafe. He wouldn't be able to afford ammunition, let alone food soon.

He stopped, walking down an alley, "I need a contract damnit!" he cursed in an open speaking voice. "I don't care, vampire, human, whatever." as he finished his statement he noticed three rather suspicious seeming people across the street entering an apartment buildings cellar. He watched as they all entered the darkness.

Carefully he stealth walked across the street to the door, he swore he heard something about weaponry and ammo. A smirk spread across his face. "Jackpot" he thought.

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

I was actually going to comment on that...I'm pretty sure it was in the intro, but no, vampires are not general knowledge. So Chaningm92, you would either have to edit your post, or it would seem like you went up and shot an ordinary human in the head...an ordinary human who was trying to kill someone, true, but still...

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

Okay, one question I just have to ask....

Are the vampires generally known to the humans? Because I know that in Blood Alone, vampires are not general knowledge, but judging by the post by Chaningm92 it seems that they are general knowledge...

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

I posted will no one post after me

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

Not much has happened for the moment...Count Craven is in his little HQ with his Renfields, Jack Kuroe, Marrow Witcher, and another Zumoi named C. are about to attempt to take him down, and Raenin Noctai just shot and killed a low-level vampire in a cafe somewhere.

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

ok well thats all I can think up at the moment I edited it

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

Eh, no need to apologise, I just think it's a lot easier to RP a character when you have figured out what their personality and history are.

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

oh ok lol sorry most of the time I just do that stuff in RP

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

Thanks for creating the character, but you have to fill in history and personality...it doesn't have to be too long, but there has to be something :/

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

Thanks ^_^ That would be a great help.

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

oh ok then I'll make a Einseigrad Sparuda ^_^ glad to help

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

Certainly. There's actually a character in Blood Alone who is a vampire and helps one of the Vanatoare. So yeah, by all means, go ahead.

Though with fierytempest abandoning their character, we are once again in need of Einseigrad Sparuda characters -_-

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

can I be a vampire that works for the hunters ^_^

Re: [OOC] Blood Alone

If the vampire tied to the Renfield dies, then the Renfield dies as well.

Though I do recall, having just reread Blood Alone, a vampire can 'free' a Renfield from their vampire by 'absorbing' the other vampire. It's kind of complicated, but the more powerful elders can absorb the essence of a lowly vampire, and not only do they gain power through doing so, they also become the Renfield's vampire.

...if that's too complex, I suppose we can just have the renfield die if the vampire dies 0_0
