Ember

"I'll take your breath away...literally"

0 · 615 views · located in The World

a character in “Detached Strings”, as played by ShanĂ©

Description

Appearance:
Ember has long, dark hair that reaches just past her waist. It is always dead straight, with long bangs at the side and a long front fringe. She is rather small for her age, and extremely thin and rather delicate looking. She has a slender frame and is quite weak physically, though she makes up for this with her mind. Ember has dark, black irises. They are usually quite cold, but often soften for people she cares for. When she is angry they darken into an auburn. Ember tends to wear darker clothing, which shows off her slender figure. Her favourite still is a rather gothic Victorian style, with tightly fitted black corsets and rather full, and short skirts. She also enjoys wearing long black gloves reaching past her elbows. Even though this is her favourite type of clothing, she also wears other styles, including slimming white/ red dresses. She is never caught wearing shoes, prefering to be light and bare footed.
Ember has always been thought of as rather stunning and delicate looking. This only helps her in her job. It allows her to get close enough to steal there breath away. She looks so innocent, people often under estimate her.

Name: Ember
Nickname: The Wraith- She was nicknamed this by most of the people working in the facility. This was after her first silent and mysterious kill, and the way she is rather haunting and silent as she moves.

Age:18
Role: Tamer
Partner: Haine
Inhuman Abilities:
Ember can create unnerving illusions using her mind. These illusions are can be as elaborate or as simple as she deems fit, however the more complicated, or the more people she reaches out to the more energy it takes up. Her illusions are all visual. She cannot make a person feel anything, but only see something different. She often uses it as a cloaking device in order to remain unseen, however if someone keeps there wits about them they can hear her. Knowing this, Ember has practiced staying silent, and now days it is rare for anyone to here her coming. To help with this she usually keeps her feet bare. The other thing she cannot control is touch. If a person reaches out and touch her, they will feel her, but not see her. These illusions also take alot of energy and concentration, much like her second breath.

Her other, darker gift includes removing the breath of a person. She needs to be rather close to do this, around fifteen centimetres, however the effect is rather haunting. The person simply goes still, and the life leaves them. This skill is also very difficult to get right and requires a lot of concentration. Often mistakes can be made, leading to only unconsciousness. This could be due to a disruption, or distraction such as pain or fear. Ember also requires her mouth to open in the process, so being gagged or having her mouth forced shut will render her ability useless. Her mind sends out a life seeking probe, which can only be used at close range. The probe gently seeks out a persons breathing, and using her unnatural mind adaptions she can attack this, and draw it into herself. The process of taking the life out of someone also adds energy to her own stores.

Personality

Personality:
Ember takes much after the wind she manipulates. Silent and swift, she prefers to observe. Her personality is quiet and rather withdrawn. She, like Haine, is merciless, and rather cold in her own way. She also has a very gentle side, which is perhaps why she is Haine's tamer. Similar to her element, Ember also contains a deep rage, and can become quite a dangerous enemy. She uses rather harsh sarcasm when angry, and her eye colour changes slightly to a dark auburn. Other than that she is rather stony and silent. She is often calculating and her kills are always clean and unexplained.

Theme Song: Too Far Gone by Sixpense non the richer
I built these walls with blinders on my eyes
Brick by brick and now I realize
That I'm shut out I'm shut in
And every time I try to reach out I reach in
I break my fingers on the bricks
Why do I do this to myself
There is really no one else to blame

[Chorus]
So could you reach down and pull me out
Or am I just too far gone to be saved?
Or am I just too far gone to be saved?

I take my falls, hands pulled behind my back
You made the knot and didn't leave much slack
Now I'm tied up I'm tied down
Now every time I try to fly up I fly down
Into the sea and hold my breath
I am a mirrored rumble fish
Life is so clenching for the kill

[Chorus]

So could you reach down and break my will
Or am I just too far gone to be saved?
Or am I just too far gone to be saved?

I'm shut out, I'm shut in
And every time is try to reach out reach in
I break my fingers on the bricks
Now every time I try to fly up I fly down
Into the sea and hold my breath
I am a mirrored rumble fish
Life is so clenching for the kill

[Chorus]

So could you reach down and pull me out
Or am I just too far gone
You'll never be too far gone,
You'll never be too far gone to be saved.

Anything Else?

Ember feels a deep sense of connection with Haine. Although sometimes he can be a little overbearing, his fire with her coldness balance each other out. Most of the others won't see her soft side, Haine has. He was the reason she wanted to rebel. Normally she only saw him when he had his mental fazes, however every time she went in there was the same amount of pain she herself experienced due to the experiments. Due to being made as an assassin, pain wasn't supposed to affect her, however there was something about Haine that made it different. The people she killed were like the scientists, completely human. Haine was like herself. Different. He understood.

Equipment

Weapons:
Ember prefers to kill using her natural talent, however she also carries a small pin that she keeps near her side just above her skirt. It is rather like a hatpin, but contains a lethal injection which she has on hand as a last resort. Aside from that, Ember carries next to nothing, preferring to remain much like the wind, light and leaving nothing behind.

So begins...

Ember padded bear foot in the growing light of the morning. She breathed in the rather frigid air watching as the small gush of white steam billowed out from her breath. She allowed herself a tight smile. She was alone. She could afford it. She brushed away a dark wisp of hair from her eyes with her gloved hand as she came within sight of the abandoned warehouse. Her smile disappeared. She was close enough for someone to see her if they glanced through one of the cracked, grime covered windows.
She stopped, glancing behind her making sure she was alone before continuing to the entrance. She gently reached up to her neck, curiously fingering her new object. The simple silver ring hung from a delicate chain around her neck. It's cold metallic look held some sort of enticement for Ember. She found it in her night wandering. Ember usually took off around elevenish, finding it freeing to wander around the streets at night, enjoying whatever took her fancy. So far no one had found out about her little wanderings, and she planned on keeping it that way. The night was hers as far as Ember was concerned. She glanced back at the delicate metal work within her hands. She normally preferred observing however she couldn't help but take it this time. She wasn't entirely sure why, but she liked it's simple structure and the cold look about it. The girl she'd removed it from hadn't even noticed she was there...for a while. No one normally did when Ember decided to remain unseen.
Ember had found her hunched under one of the doorways in the small town a fair way from the warehouse. Obviously she hadn't had a meal for a while. Ember was just moving on, when the slight silver gleam had caught her eye. It was strange to see something obviously expensive amongst a street urchin's clothes. Finding herself amused by the object, Ember had decided it would be nice to keep it, and found herself seeking the girls mind. The mind was asleep, and so Ember had no need to tamper with it. Thanks to her previous training, Ember had no trouble remaining silent and had just managed to unhook the chains clasp when the girls eyes flew open. Her mouth opened to scream, but Ember stifled that rather quickly. She immediately reached for the girl's essence and was starting to draw it to herself when something in the girls eyes flickered. Could it be
.surely not. Ember found herself stunned slightly before quickly finishing drawing the girls essence a little further, until the girl went limp, unconsciousness seizing her. Finding herself a little unnerved by the event, which was more than a little strange for Ember, she quickly left the girl, trying to shake the feeling of uneasiness. The urchin had similar dark hair to Ember and similar build, though her eyes were a light blue. Ember was also a little startled to realise that she had let the girl live. Then again, it wasn't as though it could matter much.
The first rays of dawn had shown themselves and so she'd started back off to the warehouse, keeping to the shadows and manipulating and weaving illusions as she went to keep the common people oblivious to her presence. When she finally made it back, she managed to slip in unseen through the entrance and made her way to the hall. That was when she caught sight of Luka. It was a little late to trick him into seeing past her so she would just have to put up with him. For all he knew she could have been just down to the kitchen anyway. Her face visibly hardened into her unfeeling mask and she gave him a curt nod to acknowledge his presence. His naturally calm demeanour worried her. She liked to know about the others. If it came to breaking up the group she would have to make sure that she had the knowledge to stay on top along with Haine. There was no way she'd leave him here. A slight annoyance ran through her at the thought of him finding out about her little wanderings. He would probably not take to kindly to her leaving him. She scowled slightly. Luka had better not piece it together. No one needed to know anything about her. She quickly erased the scowl, returning back to her neutral mask. She briefly thought about making Luka see her walk back to her room, while she herself stayed to observe him. It wouldn't hurt to gain knowledge. She quickly dismissed the idea. She couldn't afford to increase tension...yet. She would do it later when there was more than one to observe. She realised she had been standing, unoccupied for a little too long. Her mouth hardened into a hard line as she realised she should probably pretend to be civil.
"Your up early" her words were cold and clipped. Not entirely a question, but more of a statement. Her hard black eyes roved over Luka trying to gain some more information, but eventually giving up and returning to his face. It displeased her how much shorter and more delicate she must look in comparison. As a result her face hardened slightly in displeasure.

Marx

A dark head bowed over a small book, hand arched over the pages like a stretching cat. In his left hand a pen lay, cushioned by the crook of his thumb. Dark streams curled over the page, almost completely gibberish, unless held to a mirror. Backwards writing. So he wouldn't smudge his work. And so no one could read over his shoulder. Not that anyone could anyway. He was tucked under the kitchen table, his knees folded to his chest and the little black book splayed lifelessly before him. Amber eyes flashed from the semi darkness under the chair. Marx was completely lost in his writing, the quick jerks of his fingers that drew meaning from the pen.

'It is too quiet. I feel like something bad should happen, just to alleviate the quiet. The tension feels like taunt string. One wrong step and your jugular's sliced by something too small to see. I hate it. Something needs to happen. But in the mean time, I need to speak with Vi again. I know it shouldn't be part of a list of things I must do, but I forget if I don't write it down. And then I feel twitchy for a while, worrying that she doesn't trust me. I have to trust her, I want that trust back. She's a good young woman though. I appreciate her, really. It's jus- hold on, someone is coming.

Quickly, Seb began blowing on thew words to get them to dry, at the same time looking up to see if he could spot who ever it was, friend, foe, or apathetic acquaintance. This was part of his morning routine. He'd find somewhere safe but comfortably small to hide and write for thirty minutes to an hour. Usually interruptions were not looked kindly upon.

The man almost looked like a cat pricking his ears as he shifted his head, listening carefully. He could hear voices in the hall. Ember. Oh. Okay. No danger from that ice-box. Affectionately meant, ice-box. Well, as affectionate as Seb could be. Which wasn't very.

The man flicked his notebook shut and unfolded himself from underneath the table neatly. His face was slightly marred by the subtle signs of a lack of sleep, a purple airbrushing under his eyes, a certain gaunt definition in his cheeks, but his shoulder's were still held high and proud despite his wariness, and his chin jutted at a cocky angle. He strolled nonchalantly out into the hall and passed Ember and the other occupant of the hall wordlessly. His eyes flicked from her to Luka, then away, seemingly disinterested. His mind, however, was buzzing, wondering if the clouds of tension had finally broken somehow. Or was this just another run in in the halls? Probably the latter, but one couldn't help but hope.

Elegant fingers rand through his hair, ruffling slightly, as he passed. He'd been up since three this morning writing, and his book was almost full. He'd have to add it to the stack. He'd filled three since they'd gotten here. he'd start having to burn them soon so no one would read them.

"Morning." He intoned over his shoulder at the two after he'd ambled past them, before turning to hunt out his room. This warehouse was still getting him lost for some reason. Marx wasn't one for direction anyway.

Now...where was it....had his quarters grown legs and trotted away in his absence? It seemed so.

Ren
Ren sat on chair Indian style that he had placed up against the window of his room in the wear house allowing him to read a book with light coming from the sun, rather than turning on his light and bugging the rest of the people in the house. The boy faintly reading out lines from his book ’Pride and Prejudice’, that he had rented one day while he wandered around the town. He had barely enough money to buy it at an old book store that was hidden away from the rest of the world. The owner, named Catharine was an old lady who love books and allowed Ren to put a dollar down for the book. Why so cheap? Ren hadn’t the faintest idea of why she was being so generous. When the blonde had asked the lady she replied with a ‘ You look like a sweet boy who would enjoy it very much. Also you remind me of my son.’ Now, whenever he gets the chance he would try to run by the book store and read more books.—That is if he could manage to get away from the others without raising curiosity. He wasn’t able to go out lately, and hoped nothing happened to the little book shop that he enjoyed. Sometimes, Catharine would make him treats when he was there, and the two would chat over tea. She felt like a mother to Ren and he enjoyed getting some peace away from the others. Although, in Ren’s mind, he felt like he was keeping a huge secret from Luka.

With a loud sigh he set his book in his lap and pouted will playing with the hem of his shirt. He was sure that the rest of the group would be waking up pretty soon, there for it was best if he had begun to get ready and get something to eat. He hated when his mind wandered and got side tracked, especially while he was reading. He always found ways to wander back to when he was being tested on and it always made him freak out and seek out attention from Luka. There was a soft giggle as the blonde thought about the older boy, He sure did feel bad for Luka because of how childlike he could be. With a yawn the boy tossed his book on the bed and walked to where his cloths were folded into a tiny drawer. He didn’t have to many, just enough to last him a while, he had cloths for around the house and ones for ’play’. The blonde quickly slipped on a new clean shirt and some jean capris before running his fragile fingers throughout his hair to calm it. His shoulder length blonde hair stuck up in many directions, making Ren growl before putting it up into a bun to keep it out of his way.

He could sense the emotions of a few people around him that were awake and wandering around the warehouse, he wondered if Luka was up. With a smile he skipped out of his door and ran into Vivian who’s room was next to his. “Oh! Noona!~” He cooed pinching the older girls cheeks while she had a tooth brush dangling out of her mouth .“Yah Regan! What are you doing up? Have you ate?” She asked with a stern look, Ren shook his head before walking off with her yelling after him to go eat so he can be strong and healthy. Regan and Vivian had met when they were in the labs being tested on and became very close, and he allowed her to call him by his full name, Regan. Only Luka and Vi had the ability to call him it, and if anyone else tried, Ren would gladly gauge out their eyes. Since the two are and were treated the same they grew a brother and sister like bond-People mistakes the two as weak because of the way they look, but in fact the two are very strong.
Ren walked passed Sebastian Marx with a slight bow and mumbling a ‘good morning.’ Ren continued on his way to the kitchen where he could sense Luka’s presence. The blonde peaked around the corner so he could see whomever was in the kitchen without being seen himself. He could see Luka standing in the kitchen looking for something to eat, and Ember whose back was facing him.
“LUKA!” The childlike boy yelled running into the kitchen and jumping on the boy, but careful enough not to knock him over. He smiled at Ember, “Everyone seems to be up early.” He stated with a simple smile as he walked to some cabinets and began rummaging through them.

Vivian

Vivian had awoken from her peaceful slumber with a loud yawn, usually the blonde girl slept in, but for some reason she didn’t want to sleep anymore. She was happy to get a good night’s rest without nightmares or memories to wake her up. She had noticed since the whole group left after their last massacre most of the people where having nightmares about something that revolved around the deaths of her fellow assassins and tamers. It worried her slightly and made her protective guard go up even more and she had begun thinking of ways to help protect everyone. For the past few days she has been trying to find big boulders of large things she could move with her powers to make a wall around the warehouse for protection.
The girls mind wandered as she rummaged through her cloths that were thrown into a drawer she had managed to find and fix up. Her cloths were simple outfits, mainly jeans and tee shirts, and nothing fancy. Everyone knew they were on tight budget and no one could afford brand named cloths—not that she minded at all. She quickly pulled out some shorts and a tee shirt before grabbing her come she bought and ran it throughout her blond hair before tying it up and braiding it so it stayed out of her face. She continued to make herself presentable and ventured out of her room with her tooth brush dangling out of her mouth. She was going to go look for Sebastian Marx and see how he was doing and what he was going to do for the rest of the day. Her main priority was to build up the trust and bond between her and Marx. She smiled as she ran into Ren who somewhat had a matching outfit as her. The blonde boy was like a little brother for her and she treated him like one. She managed to nag the younger boy about him getting something to eat before he ran off giggling. With a smile she continued to brush her teeth before she finished and put away her things and made her way down the hall looking for Seb. Within a minuet she spotted the man who looked lost in thought.
“Yah, did you eat something for breakfast? Also did you sleep good?” She asked walking up to him with a smile hoping she wasn’t bugging him with all her questions. She only wanted to make sure he was okay and to let him know that she cared for him and wanted him healthy and absolutely happy.

Arden

It wasn’t the light that woke him up. It wasn’t the dream either – no, the dream in itself had been unusually pleasant, although Arden could no longer remember what it was about. Why? Well, the steady clomping of shoes in the hallway had invaded the dream and killed it from the inside out. “No
what happens next?” the boy groaned, burying his head into his arms. He closed his eyes tighter as if that would call back the comforting blanket of slumber
it was no good. He was awake. It was one of those times when Arden cursed his light sleeping habits. It was actually a miracle in itself that he’d managed to out-sleep the others that day.

Hesitantly, he pulled his arms away and slowly blinked open his eyes. He was greeted with a blur of drab colors, mostly shades of grey or dull brown. After a few hazy moments, his vision began to clear. He saw the dim light of the outside world weakly brighten his room
and he focused. Control it. Control it.. However, his concentration changed very little. “Gah
” Arden winced as a pang of pain shot through his head, bringing with it an influx of unnecessary information. Concrete used is unusually porous. Can hold 15% of its weight in water. Components used include

Immediately he shut his eyes and for a moment, all thoughts escaped him. Eventually, the only line that made it through the haze of his mind was, ‘It didn’t work
’ Pressing his hands to his temples, he sat hunched over on the bed, gritting his teeth as he waited for the pain to subside. Every morning was a similar routine. Perhaps one of these days he’d wake up and find that he could control it, that power of his, but it was probably a stupid hope. “Well that woke me up,” he mumbled, shifting to feel blindly for his make-shift end table. Where were his goggles?

A sharp clatter from below told him where.

However, as he reached down to the floor to locate it, his forehead made a rather painful collision. “Ow!” Arden exclaimed, louder than he intended, before stumbling away to nurse his newfound injury. That felt like the corner of the previously mentioned make-shift end table
and it was definitely going to bruise. Miffed, the boy decided to open his eyes just for a moment, just to find the accursed pink item by his feet. Quickly snatching it up, he pressed the shape to his face and stretched the elastic back around and over his head. The thick white band was a contrast to his light-brown hair. Slowly, warily, he opened his eyes.

Those goggles gave ‘rose-tinted glasses’ a new meaning
Everything was shaded in a dark pink and slightly blurred. This was the sight he was used to – sometimes he couldn’t even remember what it felt like to see things clearly. When it came to reading or writing, he usually asked Splinter
or rather, Sasha to help him with it – never anyone else. It was bad enough that he showed them how clumsy he was, which he blamed on the goggles
He didn’t need to prove himself illiterate on top of that, especially when he wasn’t. “I hate this power,” he sighed, palm still pressed over the aching spot on his forehead. Speaking, or rather, thinking of which, was Sasha already up? Most likely. It wasn’t just once or twice that she’d mentioned birds by her window
and birds always had this irrational idea about singing at the crack of dawn, the crazy things. Well, at least there wasn’t an owl – one of those would have kept him up all night with its hooting.

After just a moment longer, he decided to go check who else was up. Judging from the sound of the footsteps, it seemed that more than just one person had wandered to the room they called the kitchen. His room was one of the first in the hallway, so everyone else walked by it when they tried to grab a bite. So his trip to the kitchen was short. Peering in, he saw several of the others – more than he was expecting to be up at sunrise. “Is Sasha here?” Arden asked as he entered. “Oh and also,” he swept his hair out of his face, exposing where he assumed his injury to be, “
 is there a bruise?”

[[EDIT]]
Terelle

The golden haired and golden eyed girl yawned and stretched. Once again the nightmares kept her awake most of the night. Waking up on the rooftop was becoming almost a habit. One she wasn't exactly happy to keep. She yawned once more and looked out at the sky. The sun was just coming up over the horizon and the world began to heat up. She figured she had spent enough time on the rooftop for the day and decided to head inside. She spotted Ember as she entered the house. The girl thought it was strange that she would be out so early in the morning, but she didn't question it. Everyone had their reasons for doing things. Who was to say Terelle couldn't sleep on the rooftop. Well common sense told her that, but she couldn't help it. Being out on the rooftop in the middle of the night, staring up at the stars, helped her sleep. Or at least to shake the after affects of the nightmares.

They always made her feel either paranoid or sick to her stomach. Sometimes, they were almost like visions. Things that would come true. She dreamed that the hunters would coming for them. She thought she was just paranoid so she didn't share it. She knew better than to do that again. If she got the same feeling as she did, she shared it with the others. Well... only one other really. Alex. Now that thought about it. She got that feeling last night... something about a blonde..

She climbed down off the roof and snuck into the room where she was staying. Alex's door was next door and she contemplated waking him up. After a moment of thought, she jumped onto her bedding and crawled under her covers. She was not about to wake up her partner. She might have her moments of insanity where she did dumb things, like taunt Sebastian, but she didn't have a death wish and her partner was in no way morning person. Well, at least he wasn't in the respect that he didn't like to be woken up by people. She knew she didn't. The wind blew through her window causing her to shiver. Being a being of heat, cold things like wind were definitely uncomfortable to her. Her blankets were too thin to completely shield her from the cold.

The sun was farther up in the sky now and she was wide awake. Her hair was a knotted mess from sleeping on the tiles of the rooftop, but she was too lazy to brush it out. It would look more like she tossed and turned in her bed instead of sleeping on the rooftops. She sighed, climbed off her bed, and headed out towards the kitchen. She wasn't hungry, but she knew some of the others were already awake and out there. Might as well greet them. Or play a few tricks on them. Either one worked for her. Though, like I said before, she doesn't have a death wish. She padded down the hall, making shuffling sounds with her feet to give the illusion of being half-asleep. It didn't take much to give that illusion though. Her eyes were red with lack of sleep, her hair was matted, there were dark circles under her eyes and her skin was pale as snow.

Something sizzled in the back of her mind. It was that same feeling she got whenever her nightmares were more like visions than fictional images. The bigger question was... where was Alex? Last night she had dreamed of a blonde girl, in her birthday suit of all things, asleep on the bed... no not asleep. Dead. Alex was at it again. Things grew dark then. Dark and tinted red. Almost like a decent into insanity. Damnit! she thought as she raced towards the door. She was still in her "sleeping clothes" which was really just a pair of sweat pants and a tank top, but she didn't care at the moment. Alex needed her right now. So bad she could feel it in the pit of her stomach. "Morning!" she called as she ran by everyone in the kitchen. Hopefully they would know what was going on. Or at least come up with an excuse for her. She didn't quite know where she was going so she followed her instincts. She found herself outside a cute little house. She used her ability to click the lock open and and raced inside, not caring who saw her enter or leave as long as they didn't see Alex when they left. She closed and locked the door behind her with her ability while she followed her instincts into the room where she sensed Alex.

He was on the floor, when she arrived, doubled over in laughter. The sound was not a happy joyful one. It was one of madness. "Alex?" she said as she kneeled down beside him. It was too late though, he was gone, unreachable with words. There were claw marks in the floor. Or at least, that's what they looked like. She knew better though. She focused her heat into the palm of her right hand and pressed it to the back of his neck. "You will be calm... or I will kick your ass."

Haine

Haine woke up with a groan as he turned his head and depressedly buried his face deep into the pillow, trying hard not to let the awful sunlight continued its assaults as it danced happily on his red hair. In his sleepy state of mind, Haine lazily squashed the light, temporarily forgot that the light itself can't be squashed by a human hand. Urg...he wanted to sleep. Last night was not a good one. He had one of those flashbacks from the time when he was still...an experience. It was not a very happy one. Haine rubbed his left arm irritatedly and felt the roughness of the scars which laid harmlessly beneath the soft fabric reminded him of the time where he had just been slightly better than a slave. He gritted his teeth as he felt his body heated up. He couldn't lose control that easily. But then again, he hadn't practiced his power for a long time now...and it was starting to affect his temper as he desired nothing more than to lash out at everyone and everything around him. He wanted to unleash his power and destroy things, burn it, kill it...He gripped his arm tighter. No. He couldn't do it...At least not yet. He would wait for his chance...And he could kill when his tamper gave him the signal. Haine's power was a strange one. If he didn't release it once in a while, meaning that he had to use them to burn or destroy things once in a while, it would slowly burn his body from the inside out and kill him. Simple as that. He guessed that's why he was one of the people who had the shortest temper in the whole group. Because his power always demanded to be out, to be released from its chain, to be free, to burn...

Haine's hand moved from his arm to his forehead as he rubbed it, trying his best to prevent one of his early explosion. Where was Ember anyway? The girl always made everything better...Her nature calmed him down instantly just by standing next to him and her words always had a special soothing effect that no one else had. He stood up from his bed, stumbled slightly as he opened the closet and took out his usual clothes - his dark red sleeveless shirt and his black jeans. Running a hand through his hair in an attempt to smoothen it down without needing to comb it, Haine yawned and walked out of his room sleepily. He felt his mouth tugged into a familiar cocky smile as he forcefully pushed all those bad memories or near-explosions into the back of his mind...well, if he did indeed lose control today, that's what Ember was for, right? The young man took a deep breath and called out, too lazy to search for his Tamper and not in the mood to ask anyone else. He didn't really understand why Ember wanted to stick with them...really. He thought they were fine on their own...no need to make a fuss by spending time with those useless creatures even though Haine had to reluctantly admit that some of them were... tolerable, that didn't automatically mean he had to stick to those weaklings. But then again, Ember's decision was what mattered the most. He took a deep breath and called out...

"...Ember...where are you?..."

Ember was thankful for the interruption as Sebastian Marx made his way past herself and Luka. She caught him looking at her without interest, for which she was thankful she didn't need anyone being nosy about her business. That was when some insightly interruption swept into the room.
“LUKA!” Ember gave Ren a cold glare watching him jump on to Luka like a five year old. Truthfully, she was glad she wasn't a tamer for a child. In that respect she pitied Luka, but not much. In her mind it gave her an advantage, he had to babysit. Ember sent a silent thankyou that Haine was more mature than that.
“Everyone seems to be up early.”
"We mightn't be if someone wasn't so loud" she muttered tartly to herself, making use of the distraction to start to slip past Luka. She made a point to ignore the fact that she'd been out that night of her own free will.
"Good morning."
The overly cheerful Emilia entering the kitchen made Ember grind her teeth slightly before continueing her way down the hall. Sometimes she wondered if that child had gone through half of what the rest of them had...and if she had how had she managed to be so...so sickly optimistic. She glanced down at her gloved hands, thankful for the silky black material hiding some of her flaws. She still had a few bruises on her lower arms and a scar on her right hand, on both sides where a knife had gone through. At first the scientists had tried so hard to get her physically stronger, however they always failed. Her body simply wasn't made for it. Ember flinched slightly as a memory wormed it's way into her mind unbidden.
She'd just been in to help Haine, after he'd lost it again. This round had been harder to snap him out of it than last time. As soon as she'd been returned to her cell, the scientists turned on her. They always punished her out of sight of Haine, in order to keep him from going too berserk. She'd remembered the way her eyes darkened to auburn as they'd attempted to make her train harder to gain some muscle. Finally after hours of physical pain, they'd given up, resorting to the mental machine in hope it would enhance her illusion's. Knowing what was coming Ember had crafted an illusion of her own with the remaining strength she'd had left. The scientist saw her back away. He came forward and attempted to jamm the strange device on her head, only to find it disappear straight through. He wasn't dumb. As soon as that happened, he turned quickly to where Ember had been seated on the floor previously, splaying his hands into the area, catching Ember on the side of the head. She tried to keep up the illusion that she wasn't there, but he could feel her. He managed to find her arm even as she jerked away, pulling out a knife and sending it straight through her hand. The illusion was shattered as Ember's concentration went beyond limits. As the machine was thrust over head, the last thing Ember remembered was the painful jolt of the electric current and her own screams.
"I got you something, I hope it will be of use to you."
The words jerked Ember out of her memory and for once she was thankful for Emilia's voice. That was when she caught site of the journal. Ember cocked her head slightly, her black eyes immediately locking onto the book. That was rather interesting...and something she could use. She made a slight mental note to at some point get a good look at his diary in order to gain more knowledge of him. There was a reason she didn't write. Writing was weakness, anyone could come and find ink and pages, few knew how to break into the privacy of your own mind.
She caught Emilia smiling at her and pointedly turned away. She was not interested in forming friendships, what she wanted was to survive and find something she and Haine could hang on to. Emilia did not fit into that category. She watched as Emilia's normally cheerful face changed slightly to unease as she mentioned food.
"If you're hungry, I did get some food."
This annoyed Ember to some extent. She hated relying on anyone. She made a point to make sure she was always independent. For that reason she was so thankful she was not an assassin, to rely on someone meant some form of weakness. Fortunately Haine had her, meaning his weakness was not an issue. This sudden thought irritated her. She was not Haine's weakness. The other tamers were, but not her.
Lindsey stalked through without a word followed by Arden looking for Sasha. Ember didn't bother replying to his question.
"Morning"
Ember turned to find Terelle. Looking exhausted. This made her feel somewhat pleased. At least there was one other here that would be exhausted. That was when she stopped and just stared for a bit. Ember's features hardened at the thought that she might be like herself. Silently observing, like she had done to Luka previously.
Suddenly she returned to normal and asked for Alex.
That assassin drove Ember mad. Of all of them she hated Alex the most finding him deceptive and unpredictable. The idea that Terelle didn't know where he was also worried Ember. With a stupid kid that dangerous, without a sane mind, loose on the streets, Ember was sure anything could happen. Her lip curled at the thought of the lunatic somewhere she didn't know. She liked to know things.
"...Ember...where are you?..."
At the sound of Haine's voice Ember was off. She left those in the kitchen and proceeded to find Haine in the hallway. Behind her Sergio threatened to kill them. This last comment almost made her hang back, just to annoy him, however Haine had requested her presence and she decided to humour him. She glided silently past the rest of them to join Haine in the hall.
She allowed her mask to relax slightly. Haine didn't bother her like the others. Even so she kept most of it carefully in place in case of prying eyes. She gave him a knowing look. She could tell he was irritable today. She caught sight of the scars on his arm and a flicker of pain rippled through her face before settling back to neutral.
"I need to get out" the words were soft, almost gentle though too quiet for the others to hear. She wanted out. She'd had enough of these people, especially the overly cheerful. Again she wondered if any of those particular once had been through what Haine and herself had been through. She could feel the heat coming from him and was sure he needed to get out himself.

Haine

"I need to get out"

Ember's voice brought Haine back to reality as he looked into her eyes and his lips curled into a toothy grin. He was dying to get out! He bowed to her, his left hand swept like a gentleman as his eyes shone brightly like a child receiving early Christmas' presents. He greeted her cheerfully "...Hello, Ember! You look really lovely today" He clapped his hands together excitedly "...When can we go? Can we go now? Can I kill?" He shot her hundreds questions, eager to get out of the gloomy house. He hated staying inside for too long and besides, his power was beginning to get out of hands if his temperature were any indications. He ran a hand through his messy hair in an attempt to look 'cool' and he walked side by side with his tamper. He didn't understand her for some reasons. Well, what was so wrong with loosen up sometimes? He knew that she always tried to kill in the least messy ways possible but what was the fun in that? What was the fun in choking a man or making him have a heart-attack? Wasn't painting the house red with his blood way funnier? Or maybe cutting his limbs into pieces was much more excited...Either way, his tamper preferred to keep her temper and her desires. Haine really didn't understand that. He would probably jump at the first chance of a messy kill and wouldn't be hesitant to rip off a man's heart. But he guessed that was what his tamper was for. To control his impulses. He licked his lips as he imagined how much fun he could have if he went outside this house. And it seemed his tamper was getting a little bit restless. That was good. If the girl gave him the permission to have a mass massacre, he would be a very, very happy man. He stiffened a giggle as he listened to her answers. Hopefully, Ember would give him what he wanted.

Ember watched, her face revealing nothing as Haine gave a slight, gentlemen bow towards her. Aside from a slight raise of her eyebrows, she made no notion that she'd noticed it. Haine's eyes glowed with excitement, and Ember could practically feel his eagerness to get out.
"...Hello, Ember! You look really lovely today"
Ember, typically, ignored the compliment. She didn't particularly care what people thought of her appearance, as long as she was either considered intimidating or not to be messed with. Unknown or mysterious were acceptable observations too, pretty did not make it onto the list. Haine was practically jumping up in down in excitement and it appeared to Ember that in a way to control himself slightly he clapped his hands together, in what seemed to be a rather childlike manner. She regarded him silently, allowing her eyes to rove over his energy bound form.
"...When can we go? Can we go now? Can I kill?"
She arched one of her eyebrows slightly as he bombarded her with questions, running his hand through his hair rather arrogantly as they started to make their way out of the warehouse. As they walked out, Ember passed the notorious Alex, and couldn't help but give him a withering glare as herself and Haine exited. She couldn't stand the man. His outright arrogance, and knack of getting under her skin was enough to drive her mad. After delivering her glare, Ember swiftly looked straight forward, now purposefully ignoring the man's presence. In comparison to him, she was superior and she made sure to show the fact whenever he came within her perimeter.
Haine still was barely managing to contain his blood lust, that much she could tell as he licked his lips. He was honestly starting to get just that little bit annoying, Ember pursed her lips as she caught him stiffening a giggle. Finally, he seemed to calm down to some extent, and her black eyes met his own.
"We are simply going to the forest, and no you are not to kill." her words were clipped and cold as per usual. "You know why we can't, I can't afford to have the hunters after us"
Then again, she wouldn't mind him char grilling Alex. She continued to walk further into the forest until they were around fifteen minutes walk from the warehouse. She'd managed to gather a reasonable lot of dried wood over the last couple of weeks, in anticipation to Haine having one of his break downs.
"Go wild" she said simply, knowing he would probably be disappointed that he couldn't burn anyone. "Just don't burn the whole forest down"
She then found a nearby tree, and lazily sat down underneath one. Her rather full skirt sprawled elegantly around her, as she rested her chin on her gloved hands. Her long black hair hung in silky lengths down her back, soaking up the sun. Finding herself alone with Haine, she found her face relaxing into a rather content smile, waiting for the fireworks show. Truly, the only time she felt she could be herself was when herself and Haine were alone, no arrogant Sebastian, overly cheerful Emilia, insane Devan or smug, stupid Alex.
The sunlight filtering through the trees gave her a rather lazy, warm feeling, and for the first time in a long while, Ember found herself relaxing and allowing herself to stop analysing everything. There was something immensely satisfying about being on top of things, and knowing when to relax. She gazed over at Haine, waiting for him to relax too, and enjoy burning. No doubt she'd have to stop him from going too far, but at the moment it didn't particularly bother her. In fact, it might give some excitement to the rather strained, boring days in the warehouse. She felt empowered, sitting outside, away from the restraints of the others.
