Ember was thankful for the interruption as Sebastian Marx made his way past herself and Luka. She caught him looking at her without interest, for which she was thankful she didn't need anyone being nosy about her business. That was when some insightly interruption swept into the room.
“LUKA!” Ember gave Ren a cold glare watching him jump on to Luka like a five year old. Truthfully, she was glad she wasn't a tamer for a child. In that respect she pitied Luka, but not much. In her mind it gave her an advantage, he had to babysit. Ember sent a silent thankyou that Haine was more mature than that.
“Everyone seems to be up early.”
"We mightn't be if someone wasn't so loud" she muttered tartly to herself, making use of the distraction to start to slip past Luka. She made a point to ignore the fact that she'd been out that night of her own free will.
"Good morning."
The overly cheerful Emilia entering the kitchen made Ember grind her teeth slightly before continueing her way down the hall. Sometimes she wondered if that child had gone through half of what the rest of them had...and if she had how had she managed to be so...so sickly optimistic. She glanced down at her gloved hands, thankful for the silky black material hiding some of her flaws. She still had a few bruises on her lower arms and a scar on her right hand, on both sides where a knife had gone through. At first the scientists had tried so hard to get her physically stronger, however they always failed. Her body simply wasn't made for it. Ember flinched slightly as a memory wormed it's way into her mind unbidden.
She'd just been in to help Haine, after he'd lost it again. This round had been harder to snap him out of it than last time. As soon as she'd been returned to her cell, the scientists turned on her. They always punished her out of sight of Haine, in order to keep him from going too berserk. She'd remembered the way her eyes darkened to auburn as they'd attempted to make her train harder to gain some muscle. Finally after hours of physical pain, they'd given up, resorting to the mental machine in hope it would enhance her illusion's. Knowing what was coming Ember had crafted an illusion of her own with the remaining strength she'd had left. The scientist saw her back away. He came forward and attempted to jamm the strange device on her head, only to find it disappear straight through. He wasn't dumb. As soon as that happened, he turned quickly to where Ember had been seated on the floor previously, splaying his hands into the area, catching Ember on the side of the head. She tried to keep up the illusion that she wasn't there, but he could feel her. He managed to find her arm even as she jerked away, pulling out a knife and sending it straight through her hand. The illusion was shattered as Ember's concentration went beyond limits. As the machine was thrust over head, the last thing Ember remembered was the painful jolt of the electric current and her own screams.
"I got you something, I hope it will be of use to you."
The words jerked Ember out of her memory and for once she was thankful for Emilia's voice. That was when she caught site of the journal. Ember cocked her head slightly, her black eyes immediately locking onto the book. That was rather interesting...and something she could use. She made a slight mental note to at some point get a good look at his diary in order to gain more knowledge of him. There was a reason she didn't write. Writing was weakness, anyone could come and find ink and pages, few knew how to break into the privacy of your own mind.
She caught Emilia smiling at her and pointedly turned away. She was not interested in forming friendships, what she wanted was to survive and find something she and Haine could hang on to. Emilia did not fit into that category. She watched as Emilia's normally cheerful face changed slightly to unease as she mentioned food.
"If you're hungry, I did get some food."
This annoyed Ember to some extent. She hated relying on anyone. She made a point to make sure she was always independent. For that reason she was so thankful she was not an assassin, to rely on someone meant some form of weakness. Fortunately Haine had her, meaning his weakness was not an issue. This sudden thought irritated her. She was not Haine's weakness. The other tamers were, but not her.
Lindsey stalked through without a word followed by Arden looking for Sasha. Ember didn't bother replying to his question.
"Morning"
Ember turned to find Terelle. Looking exhausted. This made her feel somewhat pleased. At least there was one other here that would be exhausted. That was when she stopped and just stared for a bit. Ember's features hardened at the thought that she might be like herself. Silently observing, like she had done to Luka previously.
Suddenly she returned to normal and asked for Alex.
That assassin drove Ember mad. Of all of them she hated Alex the most finding him deceptive and unpredictable. The idea that Terelle didn't know where he was also worried Ember. With a stupid kid that dangerous, without a sane mind, loose on the streets, Ember was sure anything could happen. Her lip curled at the thought of the lunatic somewhere she didn't know. She liked to know things.
"...Ember...where are you?..."
At the sound of Haine's voice Ember was off. She left those in the kitchen and proceeded to find Haine in the hallway. Behind her Sergio threatened to kill them. This last comment almost made her hang back, just to annoy him, however Haine had requested her presence and she decided to humour him. She glided silently past the rest of them to join Haine in the hall.
She allowed her mask to relax slightly. Haine didn't bother her like the others. Even so she kept most of it carefully in place in case of prying eyes. She gave him a knowing look. She could tell he was irritable today. She caught sight of the scars on his arm and a flicker of pain rippled through her face before settling back to neutral.
"I need to get out" the words were soft, almost gentle though too quiet for the others to hear. She wanted out. She'd had enough of these people, especially the overly cheerful. Again she wondered if any of those particular once had been through what Haine and herself had been through. She could feel the heat coming from him and was sure he needed to get out himself.
