Introduction

Intro

“Ten years ago the worlds economy plummeted, no one knows how or why, but what they did know is that one man by the name of Xavier Phoenix held the key. He was and still is the richest man on the planet. Most people said that he was the cause of the madness they say he had so much money that he just wanted to show off. Well the reason I’m telling you about him is because he started a game, the game is known as “the Devil’s playground” the games combatants are only children from the age of fourteen to seventeen. Why children you might ask well it’s because Xavier likes to see the faces of the children when they have to face the horrors of the island. Oh that’s right I didn’t tell you about the things on the island, well Xavier is so rich that for this game he created creatures that most thought no longer or didn’t exist at all. yea I know twisted right, well the thing is if the kids had to fight each other and the monsters with nothing it wouldn’t be much fun now would it. Well these kids aren’t normal kids, each kid shows some kid of potential to control magic. Yea that’s right magic exists how I’m not sure, but trust me I know it’s real. Now the thing is these kids don’t know about their powers, so to keep them from dying by the hands of the monsters when they meet them, they are given arm gauntlets with seven clear gems in them. When the gems are given just a little bit of magic, they can control one of the monsters. You see the monsters all have gems in their brains, it allows the kids to control the creatures and then when the kids have control of the monsters. Xavier has them do battle with other kids. This game is like survival of the fittest. *crash* well that’s all I can tell you for now, it looks like they are coming to get me, so if you got this message I’m probably dead also if you got this message you might want to join in on this crazy fight. Good luck, this was Doctor Jonathon Fisher, head scientist.”

Plot:

Ok I tried my best to fit in what I could into that little intro. The main point in this story is the battle. It will be between kids and their companions or monsters what ever you prefer. The types of monsters are kind of infinite cause if you can think of it you can make it, but your character will have to fight it. As for the magic the characters will have no idea about it. Some may have done weird things and wondered how it happened, but none of them can have figured out how to use their powers just yet. Also each of the characters must have a reason for wanting the money, but they don’t know about the fighting part yet. So they have no idea what is waiting for them.

Rules of the “game”

1. Family members of workers on the “game” may not participate unless certain circumstances allow for it.

2. All players of the “game” may not leave the island until the game is finished.

3. Players may not have contact with anyone off of the island.

4. Players will be supplied with only a weapon and ammunition if needed.

5. Supplies will be dropped for the players at the beginning of each week.
6.players must live off the land, they may not bring food nor will they be supplied food.

7. Players may team up if they wish, but the prize will not be given to more than one person.

8. Players may not have more than two weapons at the start of the game.

9. Players may not enter the half of the island that houses the workers of the game until given permission.

10. Players who do not follow the rules will be disqualified and will be dealt with accordingly.

Terms to know

Reapers: Reapers is the name given to a special task force that is given the job of watching the players and “disqualifying” any players who break the rules. The reapers are a bunch who are always on edge and will “disqualify” a player the moment a rule is broken. Reapers also guard Xavier Phoenix and the rest if the workers.

Project Odin: Project Odin is the old plan for creating Devil’s playground and the monsters on it. Project Odin is the backbone of Devil’s playground.

The chosen few: this is the name given to those who Xavier Phoenix is watching closely and is somewhat rooting for. These lucky players are guarded by two Reapers instead of the usual one.

The Arc: this is the main base or home of the monsters on the island. This is the area where most of the monsters are found and it is the most dangerous part of the island.

Hell: the nickname given to Xavier’s large and confusing mansion that is on the island.

Phoenix island: the island where Devil’s playground is taking place. This island is a part of a collection of islands there are a total of four islands in this collection. But the main one is Phoenix island.

Puppet master system: the system that allows the Gems located on the players gauntlets to control the monsters. This system is very complex and is expensive to maintain.

Puppet masters: name given to the children who can control the monsters of Devil’s playground.

Devil, King, overlord, sorcerer: the nicknames given to Xavier Phoenix.

Monster classification,
the monsters are categorized in level and class

Levels

the levels range from 0-5, five being the highest and zero the lowest

Class, the classes of the monsters are very similar to social hierarchy, but it is closer in similarity to chess pieces

Pawn - the weakest and easily over looked.

Knight - stronger than an average Pawn, but not by much

Elite - the middle class, they are the most balanced between their attacking power and defensive abilities.

King- this class has little to fear, they can usually turn their back on any one or thing because they feel their power is superior in everyway. This is usually true which causes them to have a great advantage over most of the creatures on the island.

Divine- this class fears no one and has the right to fear no one. They can devastate any weaker class this is what puts them on top. They can consider themselves gods because of their truly amazing powers.

Class and Level mix,
for a true classification both the level and class must be mentioned together. This is where things get a little complicated, but not much.

Pawn, level 5 is equal to a Knight, level 0

Knight level 5 is equal to an Elite , level 0

Elite level 5 is equal to a King level 0

King level 5 is equal to a Divine level 0

Now some of you may be asking “well is a level 5 of this class is equal to a level 0 of another class. Then why not just call it a level 0, well the thing is a pawn level 5 in order to be considered a Knight level 0 has to gain a skill. Now that brings up another questions for you “skills” well I shall explain.

Skills,
skills are the abilities monsters gain over time from fighting and losing. You see for monsters to adapt to new situations they gain skills that help them along the way. And they can only gain skills when they have reached the peak of their classes level. This is where a monster with a puppet master reigns supreme, you see a puppet master’s magic abilities can enhance a monster and cause them to change class much more quickly then a normal monster. Now I think I just lead myself into something else.

Magical abilities ,
magical abilities are the manifestation of the puppet master’s willpower. This allows them to do things such as create fires or control plants. The puppet master can only gain stronger magical abilities by having more monsters under his or her command.

Puppet masters and monsters,
a puppet master with no monsters is weak and can only control monsters of knight, level 0 and under. But Puppet masters with more monsters can gain enough power to control higher class and level monsters.

The day before the “game”

Alexander looks up at the ceiling, he thinks about his father and where he could be. Alexander hears barking and he turns in the direction of it, he looks at the black and white Siberian husky that is staring at him. Alexander smiles and then says “ come here boy.” the dog runs up to Alexander’s bed and jumps in it. Alexander runs his fingers through the dog’s fur and says “I hope dad is ok, I know you miss him as much as I do. So I promise I’ll bring him back.” the dog whine and then his ears pick up as a woman knocks in the door. The woman has long golden brown hair, a somewhat tanned skin tone, and is somewhat skinny. Alexander looks at the door and says “ ah mom what’s the matter?” Alexander’s mother walks over to his bed and she then sits down she places her hand on his head and says “you don’t have to do this I’m sure your father is fine.” Alexander shakes his head and says “ it’s been a week and no phone call, something is wrong and this is the best way for me to find out what is going on.” Alexander’s mother grabs his hands and says “this is dangerous, I know you have trained for years to fight, but please there is no point in me losing contact with you and your father.” Alexander looks his mother in the eyes. Her eyes started to water and Alexander says “ Mom, if there is even a small chance of me finding dad I want to take it. So please have faith in me I will return I promise.” Alexander’s mother gets up and walks toward the door, she says “ don’t do anything to reckless ok, just make sure you come back in one piece.” Alexander smiles and nods. He then rolls over and falls asleep with his dog sleeping beside him.

The day of the “game”

Alexander awakens to silence the dog still sleep. He slides out of his bed and walks toward the door. He opens the door and then walks down the hall to his mother’s room who is asleep. He smiles and then goes into the bathroom. After about an hour he comes out wearing white mask with red markings and a black robe. Alexander then heads down the hall and down the stairs. He walks outside and then he turns around to look at the mansion and he shakes his head he then heads toward a car that is waiting for him. He gets in and the car takes off. The car stops at the airport and then Alexander gets out, he walks into the airport and walks up to the counter and hands the woman his pass that allows him to participate in the “game.” the woman has a somber look on her face, she nods and then two men dressed in black walk up to Alexander they then motion for him to walk with them. He nods and they then walk off. The two men escort Alexander to a plane. The plan takes off and a few hours later it lands, Alexander looks out the window and he sees that he is on the island. He gets off the plane and two men in black are waiting for him. Alexander thinks to himself “it seems someone enjoys the look of black suits.” Alexander shrugs it off and he follows the men. He is then brought into a room filled with weapons. One man says “ you may choose any weapon you like.” Alexander looks around the room at all the weapons he stares at the guns and notices that none of the guns are above handguns. He takes a mental note of that so he knows what he might be facing. Alexander picks up a set of eight kunai knives . He spins two of the knives in his hands and then he clips them onto his robe. he then looks at a ninjato he picks it up and checks it's weight he wraps the sheath to his waist and the places the blade in. The men nod and Alexander says “ so when does this game start.” the men smile and a door opens, one of the men walks up to Alexander and says "here you will need this." Alexander looks and it is a silver gauntlet. he puts it on. the silver Gauntlet had seven gems located on different parts of it. he was a little confused by what this gauntlets purpose was. but he went along with this. the men then point to the door that looked like and exit. sunshine was coming through the opening of the doorway. it was quite intense, Alexander walks toward the door. When he walks out of the door, he is somewhat blinded by the sunlight. when his eyes finally adjust to the light. he finds himself in a dense forest.

Craig's eyes dipped open, slowly letting light escape into his vision. At first everything was blurred, clearing into the sweet blue and white of clear sky. That was curious for Craig, for he seemed to remember going to sleep in his bed back on his sea side home. He pushed his heavy body up, feeling some odd resistance between the floor and his right hand. He sat up and brought his arm around to investigate. Clamped over his hand was some kind of gauntlet composed of plates like medieval armour. The gauntlet was light and the plates were well structure, so much so it was the item was not there. A slightly more intruding aspect of the metal glove was the four blades attached to it just below his knuckles. The blades were well made, multi joined and strapped to his fingers, following their movement while extending slightly beyond his nails. The tapered at the top and point, almost like inverse claws. He turned the gauntlet over, revealing more oddities to it. Firstly there was no obvious way to remove it and along the plates on the underside were embedded strange, hemispherical, milky white stones.

The noises of the world drew his attention away from the strange device and he pulled himself to his feet as he looked around his surroundings. Sweet bird song filtered from dense vegetation around him, all around him. He stood in some sort of clearing in an tight forests, evergreen and seasonal trees giving way to a small island of poured concrete. Upon the concrete, where Craig had awoke, sat several boxes looking tough and military. Upon the ammo crates sat weapons of many kinds, firearms and more traditional sorts. Just then, the situation struck him. He was in the Devil's Playground, the place where his father worked creating monstrous creatures that any unfortunate teen needed to encounter and survive on the island. That was the extent of the boy's knowledge, nothing more was entrusted to him. Turi didn't focus on the reason for his being here. He knew that this would only distract himself from survival; which is what he needed to focus on. He made his way over to the crates and inspected the contents on top. Mostly out dated weaponry, bolt action rifles and pump action shotguns. No automatics except for some pistols, which would be a fat lot of use against most of the creature on the isle. He picked through the guns, getting himself a 8 gauge shotgun. He would have liked a rifle as well, but being as weedy as he was he could be able to carry it. A shotgun was the better initial option between the two, providing more fire power. Almost everything available there Craig knew how to use. That is what comes from having plenty of money and spare time, one could indulge in the odder hobbies. He looked through the swords and over melee weapons available, settling on a nicely weighted and shaped scimitar. He liked curved blades and the action that comes with them. This one was slightly decorative, having leaf and vine design on the hilt and an embossed snake running up the blade. The gauntlet didn't affect the sword's position in his hand either, the only problem it provide was the possibility of stabbing himself with the claws. He stocked up on shotgun shells, stuffing them in the pockets of his clothes, hoping to get as much as possible. On second thought he grabbed a bandoleer of throwing knives, no food was available so he was going to have to find and hunt his own.

Craig set of into the forest, feeling the slope and picking his way anywhere that lead downhill and hopefully, towards the beach.

Getting to the island had been something of a blur for Chrome. She vaguely remembered an airplane, soft seats, good food, a boring movie... but everything seemed fuzzy. It was the fault of those stupid pills her mom forced on her, the ones that made everything spin and nothing matter. They’ll take care of your sickness, her mom always said. They were the ignorant words of a faithless woman, Chrome mused solemnly. Her mother would never understand the existence of the spirits around them.

Somehow, Chrome had found her way to the beach. The effects of the drug were mostly gone now, and with a clear head and gentle guidance from the young boy floating next to her, Chrome threw the rest of those loathsome pills into the ocean. She smiled triumphantly, allowing herself a quick victory dance before sitting down in the warm sand. She was wearing an unfamiliar pin, one adorned with gems, and she half considered throwing it into the ocean after the medication. There was something about it that made her uneasy, but it was that same feeling that made her decide to keep it. She couldn’t risk losing something that she would need to win.

Speaking of things she needed to win…

Chrome couldn’t help but wonder when in her drug-induced haze she had picked up a pistol. Examining it thoroughly, she concluded that despite the black, sleek appearance of it, it was an older model. She took it apart, laying out the pieces in her lap, before reassembling it. It was built very similar to her father's, she noted happily. She could definitely use this if the need arose. Tucking it into her pocket, she lay back on the sand, wondering where the other kids were. She needed allies, that was for sure. Preferably a boy, someone strong, she decided. However, boys were like alligators. It was best to let them know where you were, because if they stumbled upon you they’d be more likely to attack. Hoping to get the attention of someone nearby, she began to loudly sing her very favorite song: London Bridge is Falling Down.

Alexander starts to stretch his arms and then he looks around the forest. Alexander says to himself “there was a mountain on the northern said of the island, maybe if I head there I can find some shelter and then I can go see what I can find to eat.” Alexander starts walking north and he reaches the mountains after about thirty minutes of walking. Alexander looks up and he sees that there are a few caves in the mountainside that he could use for shelter. Alexander goes into the woods and grabs a few sticks, leaves and other burnable forest materials. He piles them together and then he takes kunai and a pointed rock and he scraps the rock against the blade of the kunai until it sparks and a fire is started.

Alexander then goes into the forest again and grabs a large stick that is about three or four feet long. He places the end of the stick in the fire and it starts to burn. Alexander then throws the stick into a low cave, he doesn’t hear anything so he climbs up and checks out the cave. It was small, but big enough to fit him and a few other things he might need later. Alexander then starts to gather move wood and burnable materials he then places them into the cave and he starts another fire. Alexander climbs out of the cave and heads back into the forest to look for food this time. When Alexander gets deeper into the forest he sees a deer. He takes the kunai he used to light the fire. It is duller than what it used to be, but it will work for what Alexander has planned. Alexander grabs a stick and he creeps behind the trees. He takes a deep breath and then he throws the stick toward the deer and it starts to run, Alexander then throws his kunai and hits it in the stomach. The deer stops and then it tries to move again but it falls over, Alexander walks over to the deer that is still kicking trying to move. Alexander gets ready to finish the job when he fells something bump the back of his head and he turns around to see a revolver pointed in his face. Alexander looks at the boy holding the gun, Alexander notes the fear in the boy’s eyes he could tell the boy didn’t want to kill anyone. Alexander slowly gets up and the boy yells “ you stay down! Or I’ll shoot you!” Alexander looks the boy in the eye, the kid couldn’t be over fifteen. The boy says “ put your hand up in the air and give me all your stuff.”

Alexander shakes his head and he then side steps to the boy’s right and then grabs his arm and flips the boy. Alexander places his foot on the boy’s windpipe and says “ you should really learn to use a weapon before you pick it up.” Alexander lets go of the boy and then grabs the revolver. He checks the chamber and sees that is loaded, Alexander looks the kid over and then sees the boy has a knife he picks it up and checks the weight on it. Alexander then hands the boy the knife and says “ you can keep that put I’m taking all your other stuff.” Alexander takes the boy’s ammunition, his shoe laces and the boy’s shirt Alexander uses the boy’s shoelaces to tie up the deer and he drags it back toward the cave. Alexander then cuts up some of the deer for food and he ties it up in the boy’s shirt and he takes it up to the cave. He then goes back down and drags the rest of the deer into the forest. He places it in an area where carnivorous animals would smell it. Alexander then takes the shoe string off the deer and heads back toward the cave. Alexander has a smile on his face as he walks and he says to himself “ that should bring in a nice amount of animals, then they can fight over the food and maybe give me one less animal I have to fight for food.”

Derek stepped out of the plane, shielding his eyes from the intense sunlight. He walked briskly towards the large building across the paving, being escorted by a large man in a black suit. Once he was swept inside, he saw that the room was filled with various weapons. Scanning the room, he found what he was looking for: a staff. A small rack was hanging on the wall, holding a small assortment of wooden and metal poles. Surveying them, Derek chose the one he found most useful. It was a wooden staff, about four feet long. In the center, there was a metal band embedded with a few buttons. Testing them, he saw one split the weapon into two portions, one made five inch long blades spring from the ends, and the third allowed him to remove the blades to use as knives.

After he had chosen his second weapon, a Glock handgun, he was taken outside, to a dense forest. After sticking the gun into his jacket pocket for safe storage, Derek started to hike through the woods, using his staff as a walking stick to help him move. Soon, a whiff of salty air alerted him that he was near the ocean. Suddenly, a loud song cut through the air. Derek recognized it as London Bridge. He was about to go check it out, but he reminded himself that not all of the competitors in this game would play nicely. It could be a trap, he reasoned. Reaching the edge of the beach, the teen could see that there was a girl, approximately his age. Walking softly up the sand behind her, he leaned on his staff. "What the hell are you doing?"

Surprisingly the trip the beach was quicker and a lot less eventful then Craig had expected. It was only roughly an hour before he spotted a thinning in the trees and the golden sands of a beach, accompanied by the gentle swish of waves against the shingle. Slowing, Craig stayed within the tree line, it would be slightly stupid to wander out onto the beach in plain sight. He skirted the edge of the sands, following the coast line. Hoping to find some boat or plane. There must be one somewhere to have gotten him, and undoubtedly the other contestants to the island. His search was fruitless and after a decent period of time he scrambled up a nearby tree. Resting amongst its branches, giving his legs a break.

He didn't have long when a cacophony broke into his hearing from down the beach. He started, realising that it was a voice and it was singing. A moment of listening revealed the performance to be of "London Bridge." Confused at what fool could be singing such a song at such a time and place the boy dropped from his roost and made his way down the beach towards the source of the noise. Remaining inside the tree line and slightly more invisible then if he was on the open sands, Craig cradled his shotgun, ready for some unfriendly surprise. He found the source and watched through the trees, crouching low. The source seemed to be a girl of roughly 15 or 16. She seemed to have no obvious reason to sing so bizarrely, except to attract prey. Craig took a quick glance around, checking if anyone was lying in wait for people like him. Content, he looked back to the girl and noticed another arrival. A boy looking the same age. Paying more attention the 16 year old noticed both were armed with handguns, which they both had stowed in pockets that were inefficient to hide the entire weapons. Confident that neither of the pair, A; seemed to know each other and B; Were in a position to draw and fire quickly. Craig emerged from the trees and walked towards them, shotgun loose in one arm so not as to suggest a threat. "I agree," He announced himself "you'll get yourself killed doing that."

Chrome smiled brightly at the two boys who answered her call. They both were armed, but she wasn't particularly concerned about that. She had made herself a perfect target, and neither of them had taken the opportunity to kill her. That meant that, more likely than not, they were curious about her.

"I was trying to get your attention, of course," she answered, moving her gaze up to the clouds that lazily floated through the bright blue sky. "Although I find your concern flattering, it's unnecessary. After all, here you are, and here am I. Obviously, I'm not dead.” In her mind, that logic was flawless. In reality, at the root of her madness was a set of sharp psychology skills.

She sat up from where she lay, then standing and brushing the sand off of her. Her expression changed; hardened into a poker face as she cut to the chase. "I'll be blunt with you two: I want to form a team. There are two reasons," she held up two fingers, then lowered them again, "that it would be extremely beneficial for you to accept. First and foremost, I'm sure both of you can understand how having a team can raise your chances of winning exponentially, so long as you're willing to split the prize money. Well, if the three of us join up, you'll only have to split the money in half with each other. I’m not interested in making a profit off of this game." She raised one finger again, signifying that the first reason had been stated.

Her lips spread into a slow smile. "However, teaming up works with anyone. The second and final reason is one that no one but me could ever offer you. It’s simple, but very useful: I have a map of this entire island down to the very last detail. No one else could ever offer you that advantage." She raised her second finger. "Those are my reasons. Now, are you interested?"

Derek stared blankly as he listened to the strange girl. A team? he thought. Forming a group did provide a strategic advantage, and a map of the island would be extremely useful. However, something seemed off. This girl was kind of creeping him out. She emitted a strange, spooky aura that sent shivers down his spine.

"The team idea sounds good," he said, fiddling with his staff. "But how on earth did you get a map? They're contraband! Are you lying?"

Chrome frowned deeply, but then sighed. "I can see how you might think I'd be lying, but I'm not. I hate liars more than anything in the world," she said somberly. "The map I have is very much real, but I won't show it to you until you agree to be on my team. Otherwise, it would just be giving information to the enemy, you know?"

She didn't want to make any enemies, especially not this early. For some reason, she really didn't want to make these enemies. She liked both of these boys right of the bat; they seemed like good people. They hadn't taken advantage of her vulnerable position to take out a competetor. She hated cut-throat sneaks and liar, but these boys seemed like honest, honorable people. Maybe they were boy scouts, or something.

"So," she continued, meeting their eyes, "will you join me and become a team?"

Craig stopped short of the pair, and keep quiet as first the girl spoke and the other boy responded. Listening intently and trying to gauge the two as much as possible. Something seemed slightly odd about the girl, more then just her bluntness. He couldn't figure much on the boy, but he seemed an all right guy and slightly similar to Turi himself. "You seem to know a whole lot more about all this then I do." Craig offered "I don't really want to win. Just get off, and a team seems to increase my chance of survival. So I'm in." He looked to the other two. "Of course it helps knowing peoples names. I'm Craig, and you two are?" He asked. A small amount of time passed, just enough for the two to introduce themselves when a call echoed out of the forest. It sent the boy spinning to face the tree line as the cry rung out again. It sound like a noise made in the back of a throat, a kind of squelchy 'kakakakaka'. The noise sent shivers down his spine and his eyes widened in fear as he recognised the disturbing sound. He turned back to the to the other two. "We need to go." He half commanded, looking at Chrome "Now! We're not the only things who heard you." He started to back down the beach, watching the others to make sure they were moving.

Derek listened to the girl, agreeing with her logic.

"So," she continued, meeting their eyes, "will you join me and become a team?"

"I guess so," he replied. "I don't see how it could hurt." Derek turned around as he heard the other boy speak up.

"You seem to know a whole lot more about all this then I do." Craig offered "I don't really want to win. Just get off, and a team seems to increase my chance of survival. So I'm in." He looked to the other two. "Of course it helps knowing peoples names. I'm Craig, and you two are?"

"Hi Craig," Derek replied. "I'm Derek." He was going to continue, but he was cut off by very creepy, resonant cry emitting from the forest.

"We need to go." [Craig] half commanded, looking at Chrome "Now! We're not the only things who heard you." He started to back down the beach, watching the others to make sure they were moving.

"I-I agree," Derek stammered, a pang of fear hitting his psyche. He jogged a bit to catch up with Craig. "What the hell was that, anyway?"

Chrome smiled brightly, thrilled that they both accepted her offer. "I'm Chrome," she introduced happily, then turned her head when the noise came. Derek and Craig seemed afraid of whatever it was, and Craig told them all to run. Derek, it seemed, was eager to oblige. Chrome sighed, but trotted after them nonetheless. Sticking together was a crucial part of being a team.

"You seem to be acquainted with that noise," Chrome said to Craig somewhat breathlessly as they ran. "Do please share it with us. Better the devil you know in your hand than two unknown devils in a bush." She had a bad habit of blending sayings, in this case better the devil you know than the devil you don't and a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.

Craig slowed his pace as the others followed him, but he didn't stop moving and constantly checking over his shoulder to see if they had a pursuer. He heard both questions, noticing Chrome's odd comment. He ignored the oddity, as it made sense on its own. "That was a Myrana." He looked behind him, "Its one of the deadliest things on this island. I know because my father created it, he is one of the geneticists here." He hoped his explanation. After he had lead the others a while, putting both trees and distance between them and the other spot, he stopped fleeing. It looked like Chrome was lagging slightly, she wasn't as fit as the two boys. "Okay, I think we should be good now. Next time, keep the opera to a minimum." He looked at Chrome with this last comment, grinning.

Chrome smirked mischievously. "Ah, but you see, you see, had I not performed my a cappella, I would have never caught you two with my friendship. No monster, no matter how genetically modified, can withstand the power of friendship... Or something along those lines." She nodded sagely.

It's true, the cute little boy ghost agreed. Friendship is unstoppable.

Chrome smiled brightly at him, although to anyone else she was smiling off into space. "I'm glad you agree," she said sincerely.

"That was a Myrana." He looked behind him, "Its one of the deadliest things on this island. I know because my father created it, he is one of the geneticists here."

"Um... thanks, I guess," Derek said. A Myrana? he thought. Sounds like some sort of monster. What kind of madman would put children on an island full of monsters? He paused. Oh, right. Phoenix would.

"Well, I have to agree," Derek said. "She was the one who gathered us all here."

Chrome smiled brightly at him, although to anyone else she was smiling off into space. "I'm glad you agree," she said sincerely.

"Who are you talking to?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. Turning to Craig, he spoke again. "Do you think we're really safe from the Myrana thing here?"

Craig just watched Chrome with a look of puzzlement, finding her extremely odd. He didn't try to understand her reasoning, he didn't personally think the power of friendship would stop them all being killed. Derek took the initiative with the girl while wisely, in the 16 year old's opinion, not pressing the matter. When the other boy turned to him and asked for confirmation, Craig paused and considered it. "About as safe as we can be," he answered truthfully, "Really anywhere on the island isn't safe from it. We could swim out into deep waters" He added, indicating the ocean "It can't swim, at least I don't think so. But that not the best of plans." He looked to Chrome, "Speaking of plans, what are we going to do now. You're the one with the map." He asked, letting go of his shotgun with one and leaning it against his shoulder with the other in a mostly relaxed way.

Chrome listened intently as Craig explained the Myrana. When the question of what to do turned to her, she considered all the possibilities. Acquiring food and water seemed like a fairly high priority, for obvious reasons. However, she already knew the locations of edible plants and fresh water on the island, so it could wait.

"We know each other's names," she said slowly, thoughtfully, "but we still need to know each other better if we want to be able to do anything as a successful team. So, let's go around and share why we're here, what abilities we have, what weapons we have, and any other useful knowledge. I'll start, I suppose."

She sat down, feeling more comfortable that way. "You already know my name is Chrome. I came here in place of older my sister, Tesella, because she was scared. I have a pistol, and I can use it if necessary. Also, as you know, I have a map. I also have a photographic memory." She nodded, signaling the end of her turn. "Who's next?"

Derek blinked in surprise. Chrome was a strange person, but nice all the same. "Well, I guess I can go next," he said. "I'm fifteen years old, and like science and math. I'm also pretty good with strategy. I took up bâton français, a form of staff fighting, about seven years ago.I'm here to help my brother. You see, he developed cancer, but our insurance plan won't cover the chemo." He frowned as painful memories flitted through his mind. "Anyway," he continued, "what about you, Craig?"

Craig reluctantly sat when the Chrome did, he kept his shotgun ready across his crossed legs. He listened intently to the others, trying to understand their particular specialities. He looked at Derek with pity as the fifteen year old told his story. "I'm sorry to hear about that." He began when Derek invited him to talk. "I'm 16." Was the teenagers simple beginning, "I'm quick, as in I'm agile and I'm fast on the uptake." He didn't like talking about what he was good at for it made him feel like he was boasting. Despite this he continued, "I know how to use this well" hefting the shotgun "I'm trained with almost all weapons. I've got this, whatever it is, I'm sure the blades are sharp." He put his weapon down and showed the others the clawed gauntlet "And I can fence with almost any blade. As I mentioned before my dad is a geneticist for this place so I know about some of the creatures, weak spots and so on." He paused before finishing "In my opinion, I'm pretty smart, mostly in sciences and mathmatics. Like you Derek." He shrugged his shoulders "That's about it from me."

"Well, we should probably get to higher ground," Derek said thoughtfully. "Sitting here on the beach, we're easy prey for whatever comes along, human or not. We should find a campsite of some sort, perhaps on a large hill or plateau that we can easily defend. Got any such places on your map there, Chrome?"

Chrome nodded as the boys introduced themselves, feeling even more confident now that they were good people and reliable teammates. When Derek asked her about campsites, she lapsed into a thoughtful silence.

"It would need to be an out-of-the-way area, hard to get to but easy to get out of if necessary," she mused to herself, frowning softly in concentration. "There would need to be food and water nearby, but a safe distance so that creatures wouldn't attack us for getting in the way of them and dinner."

Her eyes lit up with an idea. "Can you two climp trees? High up in the forest next to the lake and waterfall is an ideal place to camp. Elevation with make us hard targets, but if the need to escape arises, we can travel through the upper branches. All the leaves will give us natural cover, too. The only downside would be if there are malicious creatures that climb trees." She looked to Craig. "Do you know of any such creatures?"

Craig stood as Chrome began her musing about the requirements for their camp site. He took a panoramic look around before looking back to the girl, his posture suggesting that he would like to move once they have settled on a place. He nodded with his accepting of Chrome decision. He really couldn't doubt her, if she was correct about having a photographic memory then she was their map. "Yeah I can climb trees," Turi looked at Derek waiting for his answer to the same question. "I was going to ask about that too, they'll be good escape routes any time." He pondered Chrome's following question "If you use common sense, only the smaller creatures would be able to climb them but we could take care of them. Maybe some of the big ones could reach that height normally but trees would still be the best ways to get away from them." The teen turned his attention to Derek again, waiting for the other boy's opinion on everything before they started moving.

"Sounds like a good idea to me," Derek said. "I haven't really climbed too many trees in my life, but I should be able to manage." He liked the sound of camping near a lake. Ever since he was a child, Derek had always liked swimming. Now, he just hoped that there weren't any sea monsters in the water. "So," he continued, "Which way, Chrome?"

Chrome closed her eyes, creating the map in her mind. "From where we stand right now..." She raised her arm, pointing in an inland direction. "We'll travel this way for about 7 minutes, give or take, and then turn left to find the game trail that leads to the lake. Once we're there, we can scope out the ideal trees for our shelter." She opened her eyes, smiling. "Now, what brave soul wants to take the lead?"

[OOC] Devil's playground

This is the auto-generated OOC topic for the roleplay "Devil's playground"

our true OOC: http://www.roleplaygateway.com/devil-playground-edited-ooc-sign-t45697.html

Intro:“Ten years ago the worlds economy plummeted, no one knows how or why, but what they did know is that one man by the name of Xavier Phoenix held the key. Now the thing is these kids don’t know about their powers, so to keep them from dying by the hands of the monsters when they meet them, is that they are given arm gauntlets with seven clear gems in them.
