Sage Faustian

Tell me, why does your blood run cold at the sight of me? Is it because you know death is staring you in the face? Or is it because you finally understand that you are nothing but cattle, and I've come to lead you to slaughter?

Description

Sage is roughly six feet, five inches tall with a rather pale complexion and hair as black as the night sky. His eyes are blood red, and often have slit pupils instead of those of a human. He has a decently muscular physique, though he is rather lean, the majority of his muscles not fully showing, and his canines are much longer than those of an average man. There are no scars on Sage's body, however he does have a tattoo on his right shoulder. It is of a spread wing raven with crossed swords behind it. His appearance does not betray his age. No, he only appears as a normal twenty year old male would. However, his eyes tell a tale of one who has lived longer than any mortal could imagine. To the mercenaries of the Blood Ravens, Sage has never appeared entirely human. They say a dark aura radiates from him in battle, and his eyes glow red as the blood flies. He is most commonly seen in black armor he designed after that of a Revenant he slayed in the Brescilian Forest. The armor is black with light plate covering the upper half of his body with silver ribs going down from just under his chest to below his waist, in imitation of skeletal ribs. His legs are hidden by a black cloth with silver skull chains adorning the front, the cloth hangs just above his feet. His legs are covered in light plate armor in the same design as his upper armor. The armor seems to be made of something far stronger than even Silverite. In camp he wears plain black clothes and a cloak adorned with the Blood Raven insignia.

Personality

Sage can be overly blunt at times, while at others he's entirely flexible. His mood shifts on impulse, though he never sounds like he's anything less than amused. He despises human kind, but at the same time loves it.

Equipment

Among Sage's personal effects are Genesis and SoulRender. Two swords gifted to him by his parents. Genesis is a magical blade the likes of which has never before been seen in Ferelden. It is said the blade is of an old Trevinter make, possibly crafted by high mages or the spirits of the fade, but Sage will never tell. It appears as a crimson bladed long sword with a rapier style hilt, accented with a cross shaped guard. A ruby is set in the pommel, and silver runes run along the edges of the blade. Its sheathe is made of a red steel that has been laid with wards to make it resistant to fire. Ruby stars decorate the length of the sheathe.
Soulrender is a sword that would make even the devil run in fear. It absorbs the life force, energy, or essence of whatever it cuts. There is always a cold mist running along the edges of the blade, as the endlessly hungry sword absorbs the heat from the air around it. It appears as a sword with a long, black blade with silver runes running along the center. The hilt is made of pure silver, the guard being of an outcropping spiked shape, and the pommel having an obsidian gem set in it. Its sheathe is made of a black metal akin to that of the blade. Silver skulls decorate the length of the sheathe. The origins of this blade are unknown, yet it radiates a dark aura like that of a demon.

History

The Sage of legends was a man who was virtually unbeatable on the battlefield, and bested a thousand men across the Trevinter Imperium, toppling entire cities within hours. He was a man feared and respected by all and led the infamous Blood Raven mercenaries. It is said he fought alongside Andraste to end the Imperium, and destroyed the city of Minrathous, where she was burned alive.
This Sage, however, has laid no claim to any of these things. Sage Faustian was a mercenary of the Blood Raven Fereldan branch before being recruited into the Grey Wardens. While this fact appears awfully convenient, the Blood Ravens declare he is nothing like their founder, and that the original Sage has been dead for centuries, his tomb laid in the Frostback mountains. When the others of the "clan" asked about his past, he always answered that he'd been the son of a very important nobleman of Orlais, but left because he just couldn't stand the scents of perfume and the bards. Sage was found by the Grey Warden, Duncan, just outside of Lothering, in the Kocari Wilds. He was reportedly found slaying a platoon of Darkspawn alone, yet what Duncan hadn’t disclosed was that other members of the Blood Ravens were there.. as an audience. Sage was the only one of the Blood Ravens to accept the offer to join the Grey Wardens, yet not a single warden, not even Duncan, knew why. He joined the other recruits at Ostagar, where they underwent the drinking of the darkspawn blood. The other wardens were shocked, if not confused, when the blood had absolutely no reaction on him. It was as if he already had a resistance to the taint. Sage “survived” Ostagar because he had been sent into the Kocari Wilds to investigate a pair of Apostates who had apparently held onto the Warden Treaties of old until another group of recruits had picked them up.

Sage's abilities resemble those of an Arcane warrior, he strikes fear into others the way only a Reaver can. He wields magics both dark and terrible, his favorite of which is his ability to generate and manipulate black flames. His magical abilities surpass those of the mages of Ferelden, and seem to be almost limitless. He has never seemed to require lyrium, though his abilities put a strain on his body if used for too long. He has no healing ability other than that of being able to bandage wounds with tangible darkness.
