However serene the planet earth may appear, it must be noted that this is a facade. Civilizations on this planet are in constant turmoil, whether it is with themselves or against other nations. For as long as all can remember, war has been a catalyst in creation and destruction here, only recently have the horns of war silenced. All nations have agreed to a cease fire, giving the world momentary peace.

With war gone, the world somehow still remains as perilous as before. Many starve and suffer from the battles of before. Recuperating villages are now ideal prey. Men, women, and children of all types are disappearing. Vigilante justice is the only protection the weak are offered. Greedy tyrants hold seats of power only to have them ripped away by an equally underhanded foes.

This world is draped in eternal darkness, one can only assume such an unlucky fate was destined. In times like this people cling to religion and false idols as a last hope. There is talk that of a judgment day, a day when the mighty Shroud will return and save those worthy. To most this is highly unlikely, but one rumor that may hold truth, is that someone has found the missing Relics of Sovereignty.

Everyone at one time or another has heard the story of the mighty Shroud, beings so powerful that they could literally bend the earth to their will. If they wanted light, they but wave their hand and high in the sky, a large orb would reveal itself to shower them in rays of warm, soul-enriching light. They could stop the sands, move mountains and make it rain for days -- this was all possible because of the magically imbued Relics of Sovereignty: items which control the world around them.

This secret was soon discovered by their three most trusted servants The Engineer, The Warrior, and The Mage. Together, they plotted to take away these relics and rule themselves. But, the Shroud discovered their plans and decided that if they would not be allowed to wield such power, no one would. So, they destroyed the relics and left the planet, but not before punishing them and stripping them of most of their powers. It is because of their greed, the world is covered in darkness, barren, and cold.

However, some believe that they did not destroy the relics. Instead, they scattered and hid each one, to one day be found by someone worthy of wielding the godly powers. To do so, they must posses the Blank Compass, which will reveal the location of the Harbinger, the Six Gears of Life, and the Eternity Engine. Once all the items are brought together in the Dream Scar Palace, (the old Utopian home of the Shroud) power like no mere mortal has ever wielded will be theirs.

At one point in history, every race co-existed on the surface level of earth. The humans, thinking themselves superior, subjugated the Ravein, making them their servants and slaves. It wasn't long before the ravein began to revolt and began to look for assistance. This brought them to the worship of the magical subterranean Majnun as gods. After coming to an agreement with the Majnun, the two joined forces and sought to free the ravein from the oppressive humans. In turn, this lead to war between the two factions.

In the end, the humans gave up their conquest and focused their resources on other goals. The humans had decided to isolate themselves from the rest of the world by propelling their greatest city into the sky. They exiled those who were not human or for the advancement of the human race, from their city and began a period of intense isolation. During this time a dictatorship formulated itself under the reign of The Architect, the sole person responsible for the advancements in technology and self proclaimed 'Forger of Human Destiny'. Because of this, the man came to be worshiped as a god.

Soon, alchemy was developed and everyone had tenuous peace with everyone.

In more recent history, the Ravein stopped worshiping the Majnun as gods, realizing that though powerful, they were no such thing at all. The Majunun have basically been forced to agree to a treaty with humanity, because their alchemic science has proved an apt match for magic and they are far more numerous besides. The Ravein by and large want nothing to do with anyone who isn't living on the surface, though this does include some humans and a few Majnun... they trade with everyone, though, and the ground faction is the most populous.

Criminals known as Pirates have begun roaming the lands. Viewed as outlaws by all, they are apprehended on sight and punished for crimes committed against any faction. The most notorious of the bunch have bounties on their head which can be collected by anyone with skill enough to bring them in dead or alive. The emergence of pirates in a world of peace, has given the factions something to unite against and aim their frustrations; making them a necessary evil.

The Asura, a group of nobodies turned notorious pirate crew overnight. They are your usual rag-tag, underdogs looking to gain immense wealth and fame as they become legends in their trade. It's hard to believe that they were once a gathering of criminal and outlaw acquaintances, who knew nothing of each other -- the name Asura, would mean nothing to them until later united by (my character).

Unlike other pirate crews, the Asura were specialists who often fancied themselves treasure hunters. They made their living smuggling and stealing goods from cargo ships; anything involving theft, stealth, and guile was their type of business. But, they were not the ruthless, murdering pirates who raped and pillaged small defenseless towns and fired upon any ship that dared to cross their path. However, doing what must be done in order to accomplish a job, is a different story. You could consider them good pirates, if you don't mind them robbing you blind; better than being dead, though?

The crew began their accession to infamy after stealing or attaining a prized warship. Named Decadence, this is the warship of which transports the crew faster than any vessel, ship, and/or blimp in existence. How they obtained such a ship is unknown. They claim to have discovered it, but others rumor it belonged to the Majnun. No matter its origin, it now belongs to the Asura and it is the reason behind their many successful heists.

After acquiring Decadence, the Asura would continue their streak and increase their reputation for having the best equipment. It was like they had a knack for finding premium loot; but a reliable intel network, didn't hurt their endeavors either. What they didn't keep for themselves, they would sell to the highest bidders. These deals would even bring them face-to-face with the very people who considered them outlaws and wanted them behind bars. At the end of the day though, it was just business and both parties respected that.

The story will resume around their more recent exploits, around five years later, after the crew's start. In midst of a mission, is where the story will begin. Having heard rumors that a certain Sky Empire Transpo-Walker is carrying a priceless artifact, of which is to be delivered to The Architect, the crew jumped at the chance to have it for themselves. Because security is higher than normal, the mission is to be carried out stealthily until the object of value is in their possession. They will escape under cover fire from Decadence. By the time the Empire realizes that the item has been stolen and that the assault was just a rouge, they will be long gone.

This roleplay will be about the Asura pirates and their adventure after their most recent mission. As roleplayers, you will be taking the role of one of the crew members aboard the Decadence. Once all the mandatory positions are filled, we may or may not be accepting more characters. Either way, we will announce our decision, until then, feel free to submit a character; besides, things come up and position could become available.

The roleplay will take place in a unique world similar to earth, but entirely different. Make sure to read the different threads in order to get a grasp on just how different things are. It is absolutely mandatory that you read everything. This will not only help you understand the roleplay world of Dream Scar, but help you get accepted. We will be able to tell if you have, by the information present in your character sheet and by the questions you ask.

Characters will be accepted because of skill and ability, not first come-first serve. Because of this, we may ask for a written example which we will use to gauge your skills as a roleplayer and writer. We will also be looking your profile for other examples of your work to make our decision easier. However, we are fair GMs and will not show biasis and outright deny you because we do not like you. We will work with you and answers question, but if it comes to a point to where we are holding your hand, then we must deny you.

I also keep saying we, because this roleplay was co-created and will be co-gmed by AESIR Society and Kurokiku. Please respect us as the GM and abide by our rules and know that you may approach either of us with questions or problems.

This roleplay will begin once all necessary roles are filled and characters have been accepted and finished. The roleplay is intended to be fun, full action & adventure, but it also to be taken seriously and takes place in a mature environment. So feel free to joke around in or out of IC, but be aware of others feeling and stay within the rules of the site.

In order to be accepted into the roleplay, your character must have a role. Needed Roles are mandatory, required before the roleplay can progress. The Wanted Roles, are optional roles that can be filled if we decide to take on a few extra characters. You may only have one character with a Needed Role, but they can have a Wanted Role as well. Or you can create a secondary character for the Wanted Role. But, we will not review or accept characters for Wanted Roles without having the Needed Roles filled first. Every role is completely customizable, meaning besides their duties aboard the ship, you may deice everything else about them. Although, a few roles state you must have a certain aspect of your history be true, there are also a few that allow you to be new members of the crew. Unless said otherwise, your character must have been apart of the crew for a whole year.

Needed Roles

Captain: The Captain commands the entire crew as its leader. In the world of Dream Scar, he or she is usually the strongest member of the crew.

First Mate: The First Mate is the second-in-command of the pirate crew. He or she usually oversees the work of the other crew members, and answers only to the Captain. This character must be an original member of the crew and have a personal relationship with the Captain. By personal, I do not mean dating, I mean they must be friends or relatives.

Navigator: The Navigator charts the ships path and keeps it on course. This character must be an original member of the crew and have a personal relationship with the Captain. By personal, I do not mean dating, I mean they must be friends or relatives.

Cook: The Cook prepares the crew's meals and makes sure the kitchen is stocked.

Doctor: The Doctor treats everyone's injuries and handles the sick.

Gunner: The Gunner mans and maintains the cannons. He or she must be an expert marksman and usually wields a gun or some type of projectile-based weapon.

Shipwright: The Shipwright fixes and maintains the ship. This character must be an original member of the crew and have a personal relationship with the Captain. By personal, I do not mean dating, I mean they must be friends or relatives.

Wanted Roles

Second Mate: The Second Mate is the third-in-command, answering only to the Captain and the First Mate.

Helmsman: The Helmsman steers the ship. This position can easily be filled by any of the other crew members. But someone with the official position of Helmsman will be much more skillful with steering the ship than a member of the crew with a different official position.

Lookout: The Lookout mans the crow's nest and uses a telescope or binoculars to gaze out at the horizon, ever alert for approaching ships and land masses. A crew member with the official Lookout position will probably practically live in the crow's nest. He or she will likely heavily personalize the space due to spending so much time there, such as by adding a hammock or sleeping bag, or stocking it with books to read and snacks to eat.

Rigger: The Rigger handles the ship when docking and shoving off. Usually he or she unties the ship from the dock when setting sail, and ties the ship to the dock when docking. The rigger will also raise and lower the sail, and may also raise and lower the anchor.

Quartermaster: The Quartermaster is in charge of overseeing ship preparations and announcing when the ship is ready to set sail. They also assign crew quarters. It helps for them to have skill with weather knowledge, so as to be able to tell if it is really wise to set sail or not.

Blacksmith: The Blacksmith repairs and maintains all of the weapons, armor, and equipment of the crew. They also make new weapons for the crew.

Tailor: The Tailor mends and sews up the damaged clothing of the crew members.

Barber: The Barber is in charge of maintaining the crew's hair.

Scholar: The Scholar is the researcher and general knowledge expert of the crew. He or she will often provide the crew with information on locations and things they come across. It also helps for the scholar to have knowledge of languages, should the crew encounter people who speak a different language.

Archaeologist: Is a particular type of historian who ventures out into the field to find ancient ruins and study them first-hand. They are interested in the cultures of lost civilizations. They work to uncover things lost beneath the earth over time, and are eager to make new discoveries about the past. Archaeologists serve a most invaluable role of piecing together the development of countries, people, and cultures.

Chronicler: The Chronicler records the crew's adventures in their log book. They normally don't take part in the major activities and goings-on so as to properly chronicle the events. Chroniclers are usually historians who have noticed the various changes and epic events that tend to happen when the pirate crew gets involved, and thus have joined up with them so as to "experience history as it's being made" and record it accurately.

Merchant: The Merchant keeps record of the crew's inventory and spending. It is usually the Merchant who will purchase new supplies, exchange treasure for money, trade with the people of every port town, and hand each of the crew members their spending money.

Musician: The Musician plays music to entertain the crew. They are essential on long sea voyages, where pirates will have trouble keeping themselves entertained.

Janitor: The Janitor is in charge of cleaning the ship and making sure it does not get dirty.

Cabin Boy/Girl: The Cabin Boy or Girl performs the grunt work and menial chores on the ship. Considered to be junior or apprentice pirates, they are usually kept busy so as to teach them the lessons of being a pirate. When there is no work to be done, they are usually forced to polish cannonballs.

Infantry: Infantry are the members of the crew that have no position. They are usually unskilled in combat and easily taken down by officially positioned members of an enemy crew.

Character creation for this RP is a bit complex, or maybe the better word(s) is intricate and overly detailed. There are character classes, specializations, different races, and other choices. To help you, I have created multiple info pages which links can be found in the Links section above or in the OOC Tab.

Creativity should be a crucial part of your character sheet. In this roleplay we don't discourage ingenuity, the world the roleplay takes place in is vast and diverse. So be creative with your equipment and technology. But, there is a difference between being creative and overpowered, so be aware of balance. Plus with so many options available, characters should only be similar in race.

Also let's discuss character balance for a second. Think of a character as a six sided die. If we use a typical human as the average norm, their stats would fall into line as 3’s across the board -- with a 1 & 2 = Below Average, 4’s = Above Average (but nothing spectacular), and 5 & 6 = Well Above Average & Really Good.

So where does exceptional or perfect fit in?

Well this takes us well past typical human greatness and the exponentially harder to achieve 7 & 8 = Exceptional; 9 = Near Perfect; 10 = Perfect.

How do you get there?

Racial Strengths, (i.e.) an Majnun Magi is likely to be superior to humans because of their longevity and heritage. Or if you are studying in one area to become exceptional, though you will probably falter in another after devoting time and resources to one and not the other.

Unless you are auditioning for the role such as a God, one should consider a more mediocre approach to character creation. The upper levels are just that, the exception to the rule.

I appreciate the beautiful tri-facepalm, though. Oh, you guys.

Re: Dream Scar

InconCIEVABLE!

Re: Dream Scar

IMPOHSEE BLEH

I just. Had to.

Okay.

Re: Dream Scar

Impossible! (Spanish accent of course.)

Not sure how to express the immense feeling of idiocy I am experiencing. I think I will ignore it and continue as if this never happened...

Re: Dream Scar

Yonny's not dropping, Fly; she's just taking a hiatus for this round of action, yeah? (^_^)

Re: Dream Scar

@Yon: I think we will keep Roussan around as a permanent ship guardian. Someone who constantly watches over the ship and the crew. Until we get a replacement, probably promote Rhys to First Mate and make Roussan the Quartermaster/Second Mate. Though, I would imagine the crew would still take orders from him and still respect him.

Re: Dream Scar

Man what is it with the best roleplayers I know comparing their posts to other posts and somehow feeling like they are lacking--

HM WHAT YES

I haven't read the posts yet because I am a terrible human being i.e, I prefer reading right before I feel the urge to write so I don't miss out on those pesky details someone will undoubtedly murder me over, but if we're fighting statues----and if these statues are anything like those giant SC3 dunderheads that TURN YOU INTO A VICTORIOUS PANCAKE WHEN THEY DIE--Nag'll probably sit the battle out, too. What with. Y'know. Being blind and fighting with a stick.

Unless someone wants to equip him with a rocket launcher and a rad flying surfboard. But then I don't expect he'll be posting ever again unless this roleplay condones vegetarian zombies.

Anyway, point being, "I'm sure I'll write something but don't wait up because it won't be a badass fight scene; as usual."

Re: Dream Scar

Muchio gracias, me amigos. Either way, I'll be merrily reading the adventure, like Jim from Treasure Planet, under my blankets with my trusty flashlight.

Roussan will be patiently awaiting the Chronicler's return so that he can have his hair braided. On a side note, I'm shipping some really, really, really odd pairs in this RP and I'm not sure why. Ee-gads.

Re: Dream Scar

Agreed. Yonbibuns and Roussan will be missed...

Re: Dream Scar

That's cool with me, Yonniboni. No worries, though we will all miss bear-man and his awesome grumbly furriness.

Re: Dream Scar

Hey there. Because my brain's been putty lately and I can't justify prancing along into the sunset of grand adventures with you guys (Seriously, because all of you guys' posts are beautiful and I feel bad in comparison; e.i. my posts are incredibly short, random, and whatevs). No, no, no, I'm not dropping out of the RP. But, I think the Captain would leave someone he really trusts aboard his trusty vessel to command while he's gone and Roussan would reluctantly agree; full of waggling eyebrows and pointing fingers, nagging like a wife who doesn't want her husband to get himself hurt. But, he'd stay behind if he was asked. And then, eventually clamber after them because the fur on the back of his neck was standing-on end and that means something bad's a'stirrin'. Or whatever else you and Kiku have brewing up. We've got Sharp for the muscle, anyway. Does that sound alright?

Re: Dream Scar

I am still in and will be posting once I have read all of the posts... Kuro I don't mind being the doctor if you wish to...

Re: Dream Scar

I was just checking to see if you had any qualms or something specific in mind. I can see Neyshak being on the expedition for good reasons. He's fast, can get to those hard-to-reach places pretty easily, and has really good eyesight, so it makes sense they would take him along as kind of like the guy on point or what not (well I guess that implies the guy who walks ahead of everyone else to get their self shot to find out where the baddies are but who gets into that kind of definition anyway?). I will have something hopefully by the end of the night, U.S. CST mind you.

Re: Dream Scar

Also, keep in mind that while this task will suck for some of your characters, Fly and I have very different stuff planned for much of the rest, so everyone should eventually find themselves in a situation where their character's abilities would be more helpful than they might in straightforward combat. (Lookin' at you, Darco).

Re: Dream Scar

I'm not gonna force anyone's character to stay behind, because that will take them away from what is going on in the RP. But if you feel your character wouldn't be there, then your character can remain on the ship or explore the ruins. If you would like for them to find something (treasure, weapons, etc) then PM me or Kuro. But nothing major; this scene won't last too long, (depending on how fast everyone replies) so we would like to move on as soon as it is done. If you would like to be in the scene, but don't think your character would, then you can control a nameless NPC.

Re: Dream Scar

Just curious, but where would the Captain have Neyshak in all of this, still on the ship or out there with them? Just wanted to make sure, but even so I don't want to be the only guy on the ship, it gets kind of boring hanging out solo.

Re: Dream Scar

Just wanted to say that I will be posting a small post concerning the movements of our enemies. There will be a small amount of modding going on, just establishing that a few you managed to kill or injure the machines. Otherwise, I will be attacking a few of you... But, feel free to continue posting.

Re: Dream Scar

Haha, photobucket has some new systems that I messed around with and got that look. I recommend it to everyone if only to just mess around on it.

Re: Dream Scar

OMZFGW!!! I looove what you did to that pic, Guy! It's super cute!~
