Introduction
One hundred years ago, Zamuk the Swift pulled off a nigh-impossible heist: stealing the three royal Heirlooms of Wildsgate. Zamuk hid the Crown, Scepter and Sword of Wildsgate in an abandoned dwarven tomb, planning to return for them once things quieted down. Zamuk set about hiding the three keys to the tomb, but was killed by savages before he could hide the third key. Now all three keys are lost among the Foehammer Spires.
The theft was never made public because the heirlooms represent the baron’s ancestral right to rule. Facsimiles were made in secret, and have been worn and carried by the Barons of Wildsgate ever since.
The theft of the heirlooms, and the royal family’s inability to recover them, has angered the ghost of Wulfrun, the savage founder of Wildsgate. Wulfrun’s ghost has driven each of his descendents to madness. The current Baron, a young man about to come of age, is haunted by constant nightmares and hovers on the verge of death. He is the last true heir of the Wulfrun line; when he dies, the title of Baron will pass on to his half-sister, Lady Aborn.
The curse has caused the marked decline of Wildsgate’s fortunes. Once a vibrant fortress on the edge of a savage wilderness, Wildsgate is now little more than a forgotten backwater. Beset by foes from all sides, and with no leader to marshal its forces, the keep wastes away like its dying ruler.

Rules
1.) When submitting a character, PLEASE use the character sheet provided and fill it out in its entirety. A sheet that adheres to the rules will be more apt to be approved for play. Also, try to keep your histories open ended and threadbare. You ARE level 1 characters after all.
2.) I will have a copy of your sheet alongside me for play and it will be used primarily to keep tabs on your abilities.
3.) Your character will be given gear for adventuring by the DM (Myself) and you may purchase better gear as time goes on.
4.) A dice roller will be used for certain situations (skill checks, combat, etc) and I will expect the result of your roll to be posted along with your post. (Ex: Regdar the fighter swings his mighty blade at the kobold, hoping to cleave him in two. Result: 14) I will then let you know with a DM post if you succeed or not. Please do not cheat or "fudge" your rolls (there are ways of knowing). If the roller becomes a hindrance, we will do away with it altogether.
5.) While the game is very free-form, Necromancy is a forbidden art. While you are not forbidden from playing a Necromancer, do keep in mind there are consequences for raising and tampering with the dead.
6.) Alignments are iffy at the moment, and you are urged to play alignments to the best of your ability.
7.) Ability scores are split up into Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. The following numbers may be placed in any of the scores you wish: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8. Keep in mind certain races have ability modifiers that could add or subtract from a score.

Alignments:
Lawful Good, “Crusader”: A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. She combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. She tells the truth, keeps her word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Alhandra, a paladin who fights evil without mercy and protects the innocent without hesitation, is lawful good. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion.
Neutral Good, “Benefactor”: A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Jozan, a cleric who helps others according to their needs, is neutral good. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order.
Chaotic Good, “Rebel”: A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he’s kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. Soveliss, a ranger who waylays the evil baron’s tax collectors, is chaotic good. Chaotic good is the best alignment you can be because it combines a good heart with a free spirit.
Lawful Neutral, “Judge”: A lawful neutral character acts as law, tradition, or a personal code directs her. Order and organization are paramount to her. She may believe in personal order and live by a code or standard, or she may believe in order for all and favor a strong, organized government. Ember, a monk who follows her discipline without being swayed either by the demands of those in need or by the temptations of evil, is lawful neutral. Lawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honorable without being a zealot.
Neutral, “Undecided”: A neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. She doesn’t feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil—after all, she would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, she’s not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. Mialee, a wizard who devotes herself to her art and is bored by the semantics of moral debate, is neutral. Some neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run. Neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion.
Chaotic Neutral, “Free Spirit”: A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn’t strive to protect others’ freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. A chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those different from himself suffer). A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it. Gimble, a bard who wanders the land living by his wits, is chaotic neutral. Chaotic neutral is the best alignment you can be because it represents true freedom from both society’s restrictions and a dogooder’s zeal.
Lawful Evil, “Dominator”: A lawful evil villain methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard for whom it hurts. He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules but without mercy or compassion. He is comfortable in a hierarchy and would like to rule, but is willing to serve. He condemns others not according to their actions but according to race, religion, homeland, or social rank. He is loath to break laws or promises. This reluctance comes partly from his nature and partly because he depends on order to protect himself from those who oppose him on moral grounds. Some lawful evil villains have particular taboos, such as not killing in cold blood (but having underlings do it) or not letting children come to harm (if it can be helped). They imagine that these compunctions put them above unprincipled villains. The scheming baron who expands his power and exploits his people is lawful evil. Some lawful evil people and creatures commit themselves to evil with a zeal like that of a crusader committed to good. Beyond being willing to hurt others for their own ends, they take pleasure in spreading evil as an end unto itself. They may also see doing evil as part of a duty to an evil deity or master. Lawful evil is sometimes called “diabolical,” because devils are the epitome of lawful evil. Lawful evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents methodical, intentional, and frequently successful evil.
Neutral Evil, “Malefactor”: A neutral evil villain does whatever she can get away with. She is out for herself, pure and simple. She sheds no tears for those she kills, whether for profit, sport, or convenience. She has no love of order and holds no illusion that following laws, traditions, or codes would make her any better or more noble. On the other hand, she doesn’t have the restless nature or love of conflict that a chaotic evil villain has. The criminal who robs and murders to get what she wants is neutral evil. Some neutral evil villains hold up evil as an ideal, committing evil for its own sake. Most often, such villains are devoted to evil deities or secret societies. Neutral evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents pure evil without honor and without variation.
Chaotic Evil, “Destroyer”: A chaotic evil character does whatever his greed, hatred, and lust for destruction drive him to do. He is hot-tempered, vicious, arbitrarily violent, and unpredictable. If he is simply out for whatever he can get, he is ruthless and brutal. If he is committed to the spread of evil and chaos, he is even worse. Thankfully, his plans are haphazard, and any groups he joins or forms are poorly organized. Typically, chaotic evil people can be made to work together only by force, and their leader lasts only as long as he can thwart attempts to topple or assassinate him. The demented sorcerer pursuing mad schemes of vengeance and havoc is chaotic evil.Chaotic evil is sometimes called “demonic” because demons are the epitome of chaotic evil. Chaotic evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents the destruction not only of beauty and life but also of the order on which beauty and life depend.

The hot sun beats down on the rutted road, filling your mouth with dust and bringing a sweat to your brow. North, across the river Saedre, the cool, shaded forests call to you seductively. And yet every rider you’ve met on this forsaken highway has declared the forests to be cursed and filled with unholy monsters and man-beasts.
“The Wilds,” the riders name the forests with hushed whispers. Home to ghosts and worse!
Ahead, you spot an ox-drawn wagon led by a sunweathered farmer. You raise your hands in salute, and notice with relief that a passing cloud has offered you a moment’s respite from the sun.
The farmer screams in terror, and you realize that what you mistook for a cloud is a trio of enormous bats. Their riders shriek war cries as they dive out of the sun!

Which meant that in the back of his mind, Kinari was growing bored. But that was a problem to be dealt with in time. For now, he would conserve his energy.
At least, that was what he thought he would do.
His first warning was the violent hiss of the brilliant green viper coiled around his throat. He opened his eyes slightly, looking down the collar of his robes as Koth poked his little arrow-shaped head into view, tongue flickering, sensing the vibrations of some dangerous thing nearby. Kitherine raised an eyebrow, about to ask what the snake might be sensing...
He didn't have to ask.
Someone screamed ahead, and when Kitherine looked up, it was to find a flock of giant... bats... winging their way towards the party. Bats being ridden...
What in the world was that about? He sighed quietly, shaking his head.
You would think they would have better taste than bats, Kinari's voice complained in Kitherin's mind. Kitherine sighed quietly and did not respond - now was not the time for chats with secret deceased twins. Pulling out his crossbow, he slipped a bolt into place and took aim, waiting until one of the bats were in range before firing at it. He could only hope that if he managed to knock it from the air that the rider would die, too.
(OOC: Sorry, never used places before!)

She had heard stories of the woods and how everything from gnolls to dragons lived there, the woods were hungry for children, widows and travellers far more brash than they should be. People had a fear of the unknown, they feared everything in truth and that insecurity is what Naqiya loved most about humans. Making her way towards the Wilds, she spotted a human, looking every bit like one would see beset by goblins or highwaymen and she smiled and extended her arm to the man when the sky opened; yet instead of rain, massive bats and angry yells.
Naqiya stared with disbelief, almost dismissive of what she saw. The woman had a crossbow, but little mettle to steel herself into arming, aiming then fireing the weapon at moving targets. She could hit a pile of hay, a stationary target well but these monstrosities were something best left for those of more vigorous persuasions. One must play to their strengths, Naqiya, she remembered her father saying. Mindflayers make awful babysitters. Nodding in agreement with her father, Naqiya's strengths were supportive - she would would never lead an army into battle. The woman padded her front pocket and took a plug of sealing wax preparing her Ghost Sound spell in hopes, at the very least to confuse one rider with a distracting, disembodied shout.

Abruptly, Cormi noticed her pony becoming... Agitated. If there was one thing she'd learnt under Dara, it was to trust the animals around you, and Cormi started looking around the ground for what could be spooking the shaggy beast. She didn't need to look for long. She heard a scream up ahead, and was instantly on the alert, urging the pony to run forward. She soon spotted the bats with their riders. She halted the pony, whom was starting to get beside itself, and leapt off. She drew her shortbow, reaching behind her head to her quiver, nocking an arrow. She took aim at one of the bat's riders, hoping to send the bat out of control, and loosed the arrow.
((So yeah, I didn't look at the place either...))

Luckily, the gnome started to use the shadow of the half-orc as a cool spot he could walk in, keeping Royrick from getting too dehydrated. He only noticed there was something when he had heard screaming and jumped out of the walking shade to the scene in front of the group. Gigantic bats, with only their barely noticable riders, were attacking this man! People had seemingly sprung into action, the man who was sleep was now firig arrows, and the halfling had already galloped on her horse. Royrick had starting sprinting to the left, circling the wagon, perpindicular to the group of bats where he was first in. Dropping his bo staff on the ground, he had taken his sling, loaded a sling stone, a small thick stone, and spun it over his head to pick up speed. The gnome had his eyes on one of the riders and hopefully from the distance he covered by sprinting he'd be able to knock him down. After four swings, Royrick whipped his arm downwards, and let the stone whiz through the air towards it's target.
(Haha, I posted in the right place :P)

Only... it wasn't a cloud. As three large bats descended from the sky toward a farmer and his wagon, Imara's happy mood was shattered. Gasping in fear, she ran toward the scene, instantly raising her voice to sing the battle song her father had taught her since she was young in hopes that it would inspire those who fought the ferocious beasts to fight a little harder, and to feel a little braver.
"If we must die, let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their lot at our accursed lot!
If we must die, O let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the beasts that we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!
O kinsmen, we must meet the common foe!
Though far outnumbered, let us show our brave,
And for their thousand blows deal one death blow!
What though before us lies the open grave?
Like men we'll face the murderous, cowardly pack
Pressed to the wall dying, but fighting back!"
Still carrying on the tune, Imara notched a bolt into her crossbow and took aim on the beasts before her.

His ears twitched at the sound of running feet, not long followed by a horrified scream. The gnome sprinted to the front and Torgrimm followed with no hesitation, finding a flock of mounted bats dropping from the sky to engage the group. The orc stopped right in front of the small human still on horseback and threw his spear to the ground, opting for his shortbow for the flying vermin. His large hand slipped an arrow from the quiver at his waist and knocked it, then pulled the small bow back with ease, aiming for the face of the bat closest to the party.
OOC Notes
A second javelin hurls down at the farmer, colliding with his shoulder to where it could be seen protruding from the skin much akin to a fishhook. The man howls in pain while the wound is worsened by the sudden jerk of the javelin as it rips free and that is when you notice that the weapons are tethered to cords…
The riders had not noticed the group coming upon them, each well within 50 feet of the party, close enough for most bows and slings to make a decent shot. All could feel empowered by Imara’s words, her inspiring tune enough to guide the hands of her comrades to victory. Kitherine certainly had one in his sights, and the goblin’s mount jerked in the air as the disembodied shout from Naqiya’s ghost sound sent the bat into a slight frenzy as the rider tried to steady his mount, the creature spinning in the air to give a fair shot to Kitherine should he choose to take it.
Cormi’s arrow also struck true, colliding solidly with the torso of one of the beasts. It too nearly went into a frenzy, sending the goblin tumbling from the air and hitting the ground with a dull THUD. Its body lay still and motionless thereafter as the bat it had ridden shrieked and fled.
Royrick saw his stone fly towards its target, hitting soundly off the awkward leather helm of the goblin which elicited an angry slur as it jerked at the reins, causing its bat to shriek in confusion. As it rose up as if to flip backward, the creature received Torgrimm’s arrow to its furred torso, flailing madly in the air as it struggled to guide itself and its rider to safety.
With one of their group gone, these raiders had no intention to fight a group of armed mercenaries having only planned to assault helpless, unarmed farmers. The goblins reared their bats and hastily made for the North past the woods.
“Dad!” The young man called out in fear to his father, warily leaving the safety of the wagon as the older man clutched at his shoulder to stop the profuse bleeding. His son knelt next to him, assisting his father to an upright seated position as he nervously looked around the skies in case the raiders decided to return.
OOC Notes
Imara glanced at the others in the group to see if they planned to give chase. If so, she would have to leave the wounded farmer to follow the group, although to do so would make her uncomfortable. With the beasts having attacked without provocation, who knew what other creatures were in the area, waiting for an easy mark? And wounded as he was, the farmer was certainly easy pickings. And it had started out as such a lovely day. With nothing more to offer the man, she hummed a quiet tune, hoping that perhaps she could help him to relax after the intense scene.
OOC Notes
"Anyone see anything?" She asked the group. She also wanted to make sure those bats didn't come back too quick.

"I'm going to check on our little visitor!" Naqiya said to the group as she ran to where the Goblin lay and checked his body for anything of import before she shook the small frame screaming at him in Orcish. "Kobold female you will answer me!" Most Goblin tribes are controlled by another species to use them for their own goals and Naqiya hoped that inherent fear would bring him back to consciousness. To be sure, she moved to the Goblin tongue. "I will make sure Old Fiery Eyes knows of your cowardice here!" She hoped the thing wasn't dead, she wanted to ask it questions and then kill it.
OOC Notes
"No, they're definitly not coming back." Royrick said as he tried to imagine the pain that had seered through his body but there was nothing he could seemigly do that was already done. This brought him to the attention of the goblin that had been dismounted during combat and the elf that was interrogating it. The gnome had walked patiently next to the hostile negotiation and sat cross legged next to the goblin with his bo staff placed across his lap, eitherway it could go bad if the goblin awakes and is hostile or if his companion kills the goblin, who's will to fight has probably been broken. Royrick was going to make sure none of the two extremes dared to happen but for now he watched as the interrogation unfolded.

Stinky goblins, noisy bats, Koth complained. Why can’t they all just go and die?
Make the snake shut up, Kitherine? Kinari’s soul complained at the back of Kitherine’s mind. I’m trying to sleep.
“Both of you shut up,” Kitherine told them as quietly as he could, well aware that the rest of the party might see him talking to himself, but not particularly caring. He was not about to tell them who he was really conversing with, and they were just going to have to get used to his inward conversations.
Pulling his horse carefully up alongside the wagon, the mage dismounted, brushing back his long hair. He made no move to help, watching through unfathomable eyes and waiting for the party to decide their next move. He did not participate in such decisions. As long as it was good for him, he was along for the ride, and when that changed… well, that was to be determined when things changed.
OOC Notes
Not twelve hours and this trip is already going south, and if Wildsgate keep is any more than one day away, I doubt any wound dressings will hold death away long enough. His lack of knowledge on formal medicine made him wary of the man's wounds, and the job was crowded anyway so he turned to the elf hovering over the limp body instead. He made a quick stride over to the small elf and knelt down at her side. He took a moment to try and figure out what he had landed on, but it was apparent very quickly that the fall had broken it's neck. "It has passed on, we should remove it from the road lest anything comes along for an easy meal, would you have it burned or thrown into the treeline?" He would have under normal circumstances wished to bury the creature, but the farmers injury meant that time was scarce. With his hand, he grabbed the creatures face as to examine it more effectively, it was hideous, not that he had room to judge it, and he was unable to tell its gender, nor was he willing to check. By his judge it weighed the same as an average farm pig and could be disposed of fairly easily depending on the wishes of the traveling party.

Cormi scanned the sky for a few moments, turning about herself, one hand reaching over her shoulder ready to draw another arrow. Seeing nothing, she rehooked her bow so that it lay against her back, and turned to the farmer. She nodded at the half elf, plucking the cloth from her hands. She stood beside the farmer, and pressed the cloth to his wound, applying as much pressure as her small arms could manage. She'd done herself plenty of injuries in her time, some more dangerous than others, and her training as a forest warden had included how to survive on her own in a forest. She might have had the advantage of a small size, but that guaranteed nothing, so forest survival had included basic first aid. She looked up at the group.
"Anyone see anything?" She asked the group. She also wanted to make sure those bats didn't come back too quick.

Slowly, Kitherine lowered his crossbow, watching the bats and their riders wheel away. He eased the string back, removing the bolt he had laid there and placing it back in its quiver – no need to waste it on something that was already leaving. If the things came back, he would kill it then. Replacing the crossbow in its place on his bag, he raised one hand gently to stroke the small, venom-green head of his familiar.

Torgrimm hefted his spear from the dirt as the goblins fled. "A spineless lot, none worthy for a warriors death anyway." His insult directed to now dead attacker who had fallen from his perch. Taking a moment to survey the situation, he tried to find something he could be of assistance with, the farmers boy seemed shaken, but unharmed, the farmer situation needed to be dealt with soon or he would bleed out, and the goblin corpse needed to be disposed of before it started to rot and attract more of the forests denizens.

Relthor winced as he was sat upright by his son, the helpful bard Imara, and the diminutive Cormi. He took a sharp breath and gave a nod. “Aye, I’ll be alright… I think…” He growled in pain as a little pressure was added to his wound, the blood still seeping through the makeshift bandage. “Teran, go calm the oxen…” The older farmer grunted as he struggled to get up, collapsing on the ground again, his wound slightly worse for the wear.
Naqiya had gone to interrogate the goblin but she would find that it was very much dead, having broken his neck upon impact. The creature had strewn about its body a few of its belongings, totaling to a suit of leather armor fitted for a small humanoid, two of the wickedly barbed javelins with 20 feet of cord attached to each of them, and a scythe sized appropriately for a goblin. No gold or other treasures would be found upon its corpse.
“What will happen to my father? Will he be alright?” The young man asked frantically, looking between the various members of the group. “Are you… mercenaries? Have you come to get rid of the raiders?” Teran asked, trying to focus his thoughts on calming down the animals that were already trying to make their way up the road without their masters.

Having approached the old man and his son with the long nose, Teran, Royrick decided to play it calm, turning to some of his members in the group with a hushed whisper. "If we rid of the raiders, it could get us to be on the peoples' good side, and then we could know what plagues Wildsgate." he said, looking to Imara and Cormi before he turned around to Teran and looked up at him. "Your father must see a doctor immediatly and we need to get moving."

He supposed that there was bound to be something in it for him.
"I agree," he murmured, even as he absentmindedly pulled Koth from underneath his robes. The violent green snake hissed and flicked his little tongue, twisting his way around Valence's wrist. It did not even occur to the mage that the presence of such a lethally venemous viper might make some people... nervous. "We are here either way. We might as well be of some use before we move along."
You're too nice, Kinari grumbled sleepily in the back of Valence's mind. The mage did his best to ignore that voice - the constant commentary did not help anyone, but it was something he had to live with.

"Whatever you do with it, do it quickly. The farmer needs to see a doctor, and it'd help not to take to long about it." She stated. She turned away from the group to see about retrieving her pony, spotting it a few metres away, chewing on some grass. She had an inkling of perhaps galloping ahead, so that there could be a doctor ready and waiting.

Re: [OOC] Dungeons & Dragons
Does anyone have a link to a good source page for most of this info, Because I keep running into Wiki's that just end up being blank or stuffed with useless crap.
However I did find an old file hidden away in my notebook about prestige classes.

Is it Int- or Cha- that is more prominent?
I know Sorcerers require higher Charisma, While Wizards use more wisdom.
The only book I still have from back then is my monster manual, Which is a Core Book nmb3 and its v.3.5 text.
if someone can recall that let me know I am somehow lost for words here.

Re: [OOC] Dungeons & Dragons
Just for reference, EVERYTHING we will do for this adventure will take place in WILDSGATE. Any Ivory Crescent stuff will be the in-betweens and befores of any chapter.
