Introduction

It happened early one morning, as people were just getting up for the day. It came as a blinding flash of light from ther sky, an enormous jet of fire that slammed into the centre of the city at an enormous speed.

Much of the central business district was utterly incinerated and flattened by the initial impact. The light of the blast blinded many watching it, and the shockwaves sent out tore apart buildings and flung cars away like paper. Fire ripped through the streets. Many were killed...though a few lucky, or not so lucky people dragged themselves out of the rubble to face a place utterly different form anything they remembered.

There was confusion. No-one knew what had happened. A meteorite perhaps? People were mostrly accepting that theory to begin with, as they tried to rescue the wounded and awaited the authorities to launch a releif effort. People set up makeshift shelters and tried to treat injuries and find clean food and water....but as they did so, strange things began to appear. People reported seeing animals wandering form the impact point that seemed to..glow. Their fur had become stark white and thier eyes glowed a searing blue. A lot of people didn't take these reports too seriously...until they began seeing people like that too. It seemed it be some strange sort of poisoning or mutation. People's skin and hair would turn white, their eyes would begin to glow, and luminous marks would spread over their bodies. They'd quickly become a lot lighter on thier feet and be able to go for very long periods without sleep...though they also began to have strange....episodes. They'd get unexplained rages, lose their temper a lot faster and quickly turn to attacking others. People soon began avoiding the 'Influenced' if they could, fearing their developing tempers.

Then, the authorities arrived. Men in masks and biohazard suits that rolled into town and began 'securing' the place. They began dragging off Influenced left and right, taking them to a base they were setting up around the impact crater, for 'study'. The Influenced were, unsurprisingly not keen on going, as no-one ever seemed to return from there. Everyone was curious however. What was the impact and what was causing these strange, unnatural mutations....where would they lead eventually?

The truth was far from anything they could possibly imagine. An angel had fallen to earth.

OOC Notes

# The Diaster Zone, 2011-02-17 08:23:36, as written by VitaminHeart
The tent door shuddered, shedding off its covering of grimy rain as a figure stepped out into the early morning chill, emitting a sigh of distaste as her feet sank into the shallow mire that had built up around the assortment of tents. It was those blasted soldiers, pulling up the mud in their boots, spitting and swearing and generally making a nuisance of themselves. Doctor Crane really did not have time for them. As far as she was concerned, they were just grunts to undertake the work...and there was a lot of work to be done. Everyone was stretched thinly..and the surroundings did not help. She missed her laboratory rather a lot, longed to be back behind some conrete walls with clean floors and sterilized equipment...rather than trying in vain to clean off sticky scalpels in this awful place.

She grasped her back of equipment and began to walk out, under the eerie glow of the set-up floodlight, making her way out from the tent and towards the charred shells of buildings once passed. It was hard to beleive that the place had ever been inhabited, let along once been thriving business district with shops and offices. She grimacing in distaste as he foot went through what may have been someone's rib-cage at one point, though this close to the impact it had been scorched to carbon within seconds. A quick way to go at least, she mused as she continued to walk.

Crane had been drafted in to study the effects of the 'Influence'. It was indeed not something she had ever come across before. It appeared to take hold like a virus, altering the way the body manufactured proteins, she'd never seen anything quite like it, and she had seen a lot of strange things in her government work. It was even stranger as there was no hint of any sort of pathogen in blood or tissue samples, it just seemed like the bodies were changing by themselves. She wracked her brain as she walked. Radiation could do that...but never so exactly or neatly...

It was at that point that she caught sight of one, a flash of white in front of her feet. She lunged forwards, with a speed quite impressive for her age and grabbed in in her gloved hand, raising it up in triumph as it wriggled and emitted outraged squealing sounds. The creature appeared to be a rat, pure white in colour, its eyes emitting a blueish light. Its feet had gained very sharp, gold-hued talons, and out of its back issued four badly developed, misshapen-wing like protrustions, the feathers poking out at odd angles. She placed the furious rat into a small cage she was carrying, and fastened shut the lid.
"No need to look so cross." she muttered.
"You're one of the lucky ones, Rat...most of your brothers and sisters are dead already."

Re: [OOC] Fall

It was only created two days ago, and I have college work and other things that I need to do sometimes. You could just ask politely when it was starting. There's no need to be rude about it.

Re: [OOC] Fall

hey is this EVER going to get going or should i just drop out now?

Re: [OOC] Fall

Hell yes.

Expect the description of random dead bodies lying in the streets to be disgusting! Because.. who doesn't love a good EYEBALL-SNATCHING, LUNG-STEALING, GUT-BUSTING party like that?

The dead people.

Re: [OOC] Fall

Oh yes, blood and gore and grisly things are allowed, and most likely inevitable considering the setting and the storyline involved.

Re: [OOC] Fall

You are welcome, kind sir.

May I assume that because of the setting, it allows excessive and gratuitous amounts of blood and gore? If so, I will be a happy camper.

Mainly because my most detailed descriptions of things always happen to appear when I'm describing death and bloody things. I'm a little messed in the head.

Re: [OOC] Fall

Gotta love a bit of the grim and dark stuff, or as one of my RPing friends called it 'Gritty. Grittier than cheap coffee.'

Glad to have gotten some interest.

Re: [OOC] Fall

Gotta love post-apocalyptic fiction.

In fact, I'm currently writing a book in that genre. But with more realism and such, heh.

But anyways, I'm gonna make a character for this - a serious character. Unlike the rest of mine. Just because.. it's post-apocalyptic fiction. It's dark, it's sinister, it's pretty damn awesome.
