Introduction
~On Hiatus, Please Wait Till Further Notice~
Storyline:
Centuries ago, those with the ability to use magic were once united under an all-powerful Mages' Association, whose influence reached all over Europe and into Northern Africa and Western Asia. During this time mages were prosperous, though they concerned themselves little with the mundane world of ordinary humans, seeking instead to untangle the greater mysteries of the universe and creation.
The Association however always had a shaky relationship with the Catholic Church, who believed that mages were slowly trespassing into a realm meant for God alone. The more reckless and unethical mages became with their experiments, caring almost nothing for the lives they ruined for the sake of higher power, the shakier this relationship became until finally the Church declared all-out war on the Association.
Ultimately, the Mages' Association was utterly destroyed, the Church emerging triumphant. But magic itself still survived...
They may have been scattered and divided since the Middle Ages, but mages still exist, blending in amongst our everyday world, a world they once tried to avoid. However they have never recovered from the Association's destruction, many teachings and discoveries about the inner workings of magic are now completely lost, and several families across the world don't even know they have magic, something that would be unheard of in ages past. Mages today can no longer afford to care about things like the 'Akashic Records' or the 'Source of Mana', to them the only things that matter are that their ancient art doesn't die out and, without the Association there to monitor everything, that magic isn't discovered by the 'common' public.
What's really interesting is that, if in this timeline she and her family had not been killed first by the escalating war, a woman from the Magic House of Einzbern would've travelled to the then-distant land of Japan and, along with two other families and a powerful sorcerer, created a ritual known as the Holy Grail War. In this war (more like a tournament) the spirits of characters from history and mythology are summoned back into the world in order to fight against each other to the death. The last one standing and their Summoner would receive the Grail, capable of granting any wish conceivable.
But now the Holy Grail War would be destined never to happen. At least, not in this particular way...
Something strange is happening in the French countryside town of Ciel-Etoile, events are happening that can't be explained with logical answers. A person calling himself the 'Conductor of Memories' has sent letters out to various mages saying that a chance to be granted any wish they desire awaits in this town, and what must be done to make this wish-bringer appear.
What he didn't say was that what was being really summoned in Ciel-Etoile wasn't exactly the Holy Grail, instead something much... more complicated.
Information:
This RPG is based on the visual-novel-turned-anime Fate/stay night, however the GM's goal is that no prior knowledge of the work should be required to play this game. This RPG is going to take a much looser approach to how magic works than the original story, what with a lot of magical knowledge lost, so feel free to tell me any ideas you may have or add to the world without worrying too much about if they'd be permitted in canon.
Fans of even the original visual novel are still welcome to join, but remember, this RPG isn't "for" you. That said, this should not be seen as an introductory RPG to the Nasuverse (the interconnected universe consisting of the works Fate/stay night, Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai/Rakkyo) either, the GM's wishes are that it should be its own unique story. Pretty much everything you know about F/sn's world won't be of any help here.
Though this may be a player vs player game, please remember that plot, storytelling and character interaction/development are much more important to this RPG than fighting or 'winning'.
When a Holy Grail War or similar event occurs, mages are able to perform a summoning ritual and conjure a Heroic Spirit, a well-known character from history or mythology, back into the mortal world. The summoning magi is known as a Master while the summoned spirit is known as a Servant.
Masters get three Command Seals for issuing direct orders to their Servants, but once they're all used up the Servant disappears.
The Servants summoned have to fight each other until only one remains, upon which the Holy Grail finally appears to the victor. While all that's needed to complete the tournament is for all but one Servant to be killed, more pragmatic magi and Servants decide to target enemy Masters instead (in fact this is the entire purpose of the Assassin class), as when a Master is killed their Servant is automatically killed with them as their mana supply is cut off, though the Archer class can survive for slightly longer without a Master.
Servants can come in the following classes, though note there should only ever be one Servant per class:
*Saber - Known for using a particular sword or blade.
*Archer - Uses projectile attacks/weapons.
*Lancer - Known for using a spear or similar long-range melee weapon.
*Rider - Known for owning a special mount or vehicle.
*Berserker - Known for their insanity or uncontrolability. (Typically incapable of speech, though not here necessarily)
*Caster - Known for their magic abilities and spells.
*Assassin - Attempts to dispose of enemies while avoiding direct combat. (Typically restricted to Hasssan i-Sabbah, though not here necessarily)
*Avenger - A legendary character villified and remembered darkly by humanity rather than praised. Please note that Servants of this class are by no means necessarily evil, and that traits of this class can carry over to other Servants. Ideally Avenger should be reserved for those that don't really fit any other category.
*Saviour - A legendary character viewed as a messianic figure. Usually they don't possess any wish for the Grail, instead showing up for another motivation.
For everyone except Servants, you are free to start posting in-character the moment your character is accepted. For Servants, you'll have to wait until we've decided who you'll be paired to out-of-character and your Master has summoned you in-character to begin.
Character Creation:
All character 'synopses' must be a quote from your character, if only a hypothetical one.
Please do not use rankings to indicate the strength of your Servant character's abilities or Noble Phantasms, as this is a freeform roleplay there should be no need for them. Fights should be decided by storytelling, not by stats.
You should still try to indicate the strength of something, but use a general description, not a ranking.
An exception to this rule will be made for Mana Costs. Anti-Unit, Anti-Army, Anti-Fortress terms are still acceptable.
When creating a character, try to address the following points:
For Servants:
*Class
*True Name
*Gender
*Appearance (Pictures welcome)
*Personality (At least two paragraphs, if possible)
*Motivation (Reason behind wanting to return to the world, whether for the Grail or something else. Please explain why this is the case)
*Character Alignment (Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil, Chaotic Evil. Please use this just as a guideline and not a strict definition)
*Weapon
*Skills
*Combat Strengths
*Combat Weaknesses
*Noble Phantasms (Whereas Skills refer to general abilities a Servant may have, Noble Phantasms refer to unique powers corresponding to that Heroic Spirit based off their legend as well as anything important to that legend, such as their weapon or feats)
*Image Colour (A colour used to represent the Heroic Spirit)
*Mana Cost (How exhausting sustaining them is for their Master. Demi-gods, warriors from ages past or just more powerful characters overall usually have a higher Mana Cost, mortals and more recent characters tend to have a lower Mana Cost)
*Face Claim (The person in the image used for your own character. This refers to the image linked to or displayed in the character application, not the one used in your avatar. While multiple images are welcome, it is preferred you don't use more than one character for your own character)
*Character Theme (Not compulsory. Purely instrumental songs are preferred)
*Battle Theme (Not compulsory. Purely instrumental songs are preferred)
*Sample Post (Appreciated but not compulsory. Must have something to do with the character you're auditioning for, and has they're meant to display your writing ability no one-liners)
****
For Mages: (Whether Masters or not)
*Name
*Age
*Gender
*Appearance (Pictures welcome)
*Personality (At least two paragraphs, if possible)
*History
*Character Alignment (Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil, Chaotic Evil. Please use this just as a guideline and not a strict definition)
*Motivation (Reason for wanting to enter the Grail War. Please explain what for and why, don't just state 'To win the Grail')
*Spells
*Magic Element(s)
*Equipment
*Magic Level (If a Master's Magic Level is significantly lower than their Servant's Mana Cost, the Servant may find their abilities and stats decreased. Likewise if a high Magic Level Master is paired with a low Mana Cost Servant, the Servant may find its abilities and stats boosted. Please be realistic).
*Face Claim (The person in the image used for your own character. This refers to the image linked to or displayed in the character application, not the one used in your avatar. While multiple images are welcome, it is preferred you don't use more than one character for your own character)
*Starting Location
*Character Theme (Not compulsory. Purely instrumental songs are preferred)
*Sample Post (Appreciated but not required. Must have something to do with the character you're auditioning for, and no one-liners)

GM Requests:
* Though originally unintended, it definitely seems like our Servants are being centred around a theme of 'faith' or 'relationship with the divine', whether Lancer's time as a Buddhist nun, Avenger being fashioned by the Gods, and Rider, Saber and Saviour should speak for themselves. So keep this in mind when coming up with a character, as it's a theme I'd be interested in exploring.
* With any future applications for Masters I would prefer their designs to be on a larger scale, considering what has happened to their world. We have a couple of 'born into magically-unaware family' Masters which is good, but now I think we could use a few fallen 'trying to re-establish the world of mages'-type characters, in order to fully explore the setting here.
* I also wouldn't mind a Master teetering on the edge of the mundane and magical worlds, so we could analyse how much the gap between them has decreased.
* While I most certainly want to distance this RPG as much as possible from the terminology, rules and world of the Nasuverse, I wouldn't mind one or two canon characters as Masters, preferably from Fate/stay night or Kara no Kyoukai, so we can have a complete exploration of what it's been like without the Fuyuki War or the Mages' Association.
* However, if your character is not from canon, from now on try to avoid taking inspiration from canon characters, as the worst thing in my mind that could happen to this RPG is that our cast ends up as shallow copies of the ones from the original visual novel/anime.
If you aren't familiar with the original Fate/stay night, then this is all the more reason not to worry.
* Lastly, and I know this may be a bit hard, but I would like to request some non-Master, non-Servant characters, in order to flesh out this RPG beyond just the mains. Don't worry, non-Master non-Servant characters won't go towards your overall character count.
Note that the following have already been used or mentioned somewhere in the Fate series or a related work as Servants:
*King Arthur
*Sir Gawain
*Emperor Nero
*Gilgamesh
*Robin Hood
*Cuchullain
*Diarmuid Ua Duibhne
*Vlad the Impaler
*Enkidu
*Perseus
*Medusa
*Alexander the Great
*Sir Francis Drake
*Huang-Di
*The Black Death
*Heracles
*Sir Lancelot
*Lu Bu
*Jack the Ripper
*Medea
*Gilles de Rais
*Tamamo-no-Mae
*Alexandre Dumas
*Sasaki Kojiro
*Hassan Sabbah
*Li Shu Wen
*Vairocana
*"Angra Mainyu" (Note quotation marks)
Rules
1. Don't Godmode. This involves no deciding another character's fate, no auto-hitting, no excessive dodging without a good explanation, no overpowered characters or abilities relatively without some weakness or limit, and especially no killing off another player's character without asking their permission and notifying the GM beforehand.
That said, don't nerf any character's pre-established powers without a good reason.
2. This is not a competition. Though I suppose this game is technically player vs player, it should be viewed as more of a "collaborative storywriting experience" rather than a fight to the finish. Combat should not be a matter of who wins or loses but rather every player involved working together in order to create an intense and involving scene. The emphasis here is on the "role-playing" rather than the "game".
However, it should be noted that characters, Servants especially, will die over the course of this game. Who dies and when will be decided by either a poll I'll start or from a discussion we'll hold. You are allowed to create a spare character so that you can keep playing on even after your Master or Servant character's death.
3. Don't meta-game. (Technically related to Don't Godmode, but gets its own section for specific reasons) Meta-gaming refers to the instance of using information you know but your character shouldn't in-game to your advantage. Considering that Heroic Spirit identities are meant to be a total secret in-game, shared only between Servant and Master, but are common knowledge OOC you can see why this would be a problem.
4. GM's word > Nasu's word. As GM I reserve the right to overturn or ignore any aspect of the Nasuverse (the interconnected universe featured in the works of Kinoko Nasu, creator of Fate/stay night and Tsukihime) if it would suit this roleplay, I highly doubt Nasu's even heard of RoleplayGateway in the first place.
To anyone with prior experience of the Nasuverse, know that any previous knowledge you may have of any rules or terminology that has been set up may very well be null and void here.
5. If you'd like to play an existing Fate/stay night or even Tsukihime/Kara no Kyoukai character, you may, but remember they will likely be changed greatly by the absence of both the Mages' Association and the Fuyuki Grail War. Also please note there are some characters I just won't accept (any of the Shikis, Arcueid, Roa, Archer, Gilgamesh, Cuchullain due to Gae Bolg).
If you are playing a pre-established canon character, remember you still have to introduce them as if any reader wouldn't know them.
6. You cannot automatically decide whether or not you're partnered to someone else's Servant/Master without first getting that player's permission and explaining your decision to the GM. Even then remember that the GM has the final say on who gets partnered with who.
7. Make sure every in-character post contributes something to the RPG, even if it's just the smallest thing like one character answering another's question. Posts which basically amount to nothing, whether too long or too short, are just a waste of everyone's time and don't help further things at all.
8. Don't soapbox. Soapboxing refers to the blatant exposition of the author's own beliefs and/or worldviews in a sudden, hamfisted manner. As you can see, not only does this interrupt the story, these instances are frequently very poorly written, totally irrevelent to what's going on and are completely meaningless and unhelpful to everyone except the author. So don't do it.
9. This is not an 'Adult' game. Regardless of Fate/Stay Night's original nature, keep anything classified as explicit content strictly away from this game.
10. Don't ignore other players' posts if they affect your character(s) in any way. This can seriously upset the flow of the RPG and is just plain disrespectful. If you aren't sure if your character is being addressed please ask Out-of-Character about it.
11. Please warn us beforehand if you're going to leave. Whether you'll be gone for good or won't be able to participate for a certain length of time, please say something and give instruxctions for what should be done with your character(s) rather than just vanishing off into the blue.
12. When Out-Of-Character, please be kind and respectful to all players. This one should be obvious. If anyone's been bothering you please inform me of your problems and I'll try to do something about it. In-character however you can be as much of a jerk as you want, provided this sort of nature fits your character.
13. You are allowed either two Masters and one Servant or two Servants and one Master to play as.
Character Creation Rules:
1. No 100% gods. Beings like demi-gods, angels, demons, valkyries, loa, giants, mortal avatars of gods or other non-humans may be fine, depending on the character. Please no Jesus though, that's too sensitive an area.
2. Ambiguously fictional characters such as from myth and folklore should be fine as Servants, but no definitely fictional characters from books, movies and the like.
3. Servants can be from actual history as well, though no later than WWI (aside from future Servants).
4. No two Servants may be from the same region or mythology, unless they were famous friends, rivals, enemies or had some other significant connection, but I'll only accept one such pair.
This in contrast to Fate/stay night, where three of the main Servants faced were from Greek myths yet had little connection.
5. Try to aim for a decent balance between male and female Servants and Masters, as opposed to other stories such as Fate/Zero where practically all but one of them are male. If you see people have been applying for mainly male/female Masters/Servants, try coming up with a female/male one.
However, you may not 'genderflip' a Heroic Spirit a la Saber in the original F/sn, unless you have a good reason or explanation for it. There were actually quite a few prominent female characters in history and mythology, consider them for a second.
6. Servants must be based on actual characters from mythology or history, the only truly original Servant characters I'll allow would be ones from the future (as the Throne of Heroes that contains the Servants is outside time) but only one of those.
7. No purely good or evil characters, everyone must have their flaws and sympathetic points. This rule is less strict when it comes to Servants, though still try to keep it in mind.
8. This may be a more personal thing, but try to avoid excessively 'manly' male characters (unless playing them for laughs). If your Servant character was like that in real life/myth then please try to focus on other aspects of them. If I hear anything about their 'well-chiselled build' or 'lean, muscular body' or see any overly-musculed pictures your character will be rejected.
9. Please do not use E to A rankings to indicate the strength of your Servant's abilities or Noble Phantasms, as this is a freeform roleplay there should be no need for them. Fights should be decided by storytelling, not by stats.
You should still try to indicate the strength of something, but use a general description, not a ranking.
An exception to this rule will be made for Mana Costs. Anti-Unit, Anti-Fortress terms are still acceptable.
10. Please do not use any Nasuverse terminology in your character profile beyond basic things mentioned in this introductory thread like 'Heroic Spirits', 'Holy Grail' or 'Noble Phantasms'. This is partially to avoid the trappings of canon, but also to not potentially confuse any newcomers. This rule includes Servant skills.
11. As of this moment on, please do not use any 'original' Face Claims for characters, as this makes it harder to define and identify them when putting them up on the Face Claim List. If you would still like your character to have some degree of identity separate to that of a pre-established character, my advice would be to search for a genderbent picture or one of those alternate colour/hairstyle/costume pictures.
Reviews
MrMurdoch wrote:First of all, I would like to say you have an extremely thought-out plot and story. However, seeing as it is [i]based off[/i] of something, I gave you a 'proficient' rating. The depth and style also add an impressive detail to the roleplay. The characters are nicely plotted out, and the entire overall roleplay is nicely executed. The single post that is within this roleplay is nicely executed, with impressive length, might I add. Overall, it's a bit early to really judge this in depth, but it looks good so far.
Symphony wrote:I must say, the plot you have working here, even if it is based off of a novel/anime that has been read, how you shaped it up and changed it around seems to be working. The plot and how you seemed to make it appear to be in the future from the current books seems to give everyone a fair chance; even those who haven't read the book could understand where you are going with this. The one post that is currently within the IC is well thought out and long in length. Though how you put it in first person is interesting considering that most roleplays are written in third. How you laid out the information and the rules is nicely thought out and you can easily sort through it without much difficulty. Overall, its a well thought out roleplay and I can't wait to see it progress further!
pantalimon wrote:This has something good going in it in its undertones, though I can't exactly put my finger on it. It may be the fact that it's told in first person, which allows the reader to get a strong understanding of what is going through the main character's head; but then again it might also be because the person who wrote the first post (and only one, at this point) knew how to use his or her grammar skills.

OOC Notes
Someone would probably ask why I've become a schoolteacher in the first place, if I was nearly such.... practically a hopeless wreck on my first day. But I have my reasons, I have my reasons, and I have to keep reminding myself I'm here for a reason.
No, not just this 'Grail War'. I'll admit if that letter wasn't some sort of hoax then it certainly sounds like a most serious occasion, the most serious of occasions really, and even if it is a lie it could still possibly attract some dangerous people, which naturally I'd have to stop and sort out. But.. if something like this really was a joke, I think I'd have at least worked it out as soon as I'd read that letter. I suppose I won't really know until later today.
Sorry, looks like I'm getting really sidetracked here. No, the reason I specifically requested to be a teacher here was for a totally separate reason. I feel like... it is hard to say this, but I feel like I've lost something, or rather there was something I should have had but never took it because I didn't want it, and now I feel I owe something back for what I forsook when I was a younger, and rather more reckless girl honestly speaking. As a teacher, I can finally start acting more like a proper, adult woman.
"Ah, Sister Charlotte?" a voice calls to me. I turn around to see it's one of the school staff.
"Oh, yes of course. Hello" I reply back, a bit startled by the sudden appearance.
"Er, right" comes the response. I nervously smile, I feel like I've made the wrong impression there. "Now, have I understood this correctly? I've been told you are to be living on, erm, school grounds, is this right?"
"Actually... yes, that's right" I reply again. "There wasn't a room spare at the local Church, there's no convent close by and my superiors at the Church insisted that staying at a hotel would be seen as disrespectable for one of their own".
"I admit the school does have an old storeroom spare, but... at the same time it's rather odd" the staff member muttered.
"Oh, I don't really mind. This way I can be a lot closer to my work as a teacher here" I said so.
All I received in return was a suspicious look. "Yes, of course you would be" the school staff member said, before casually leaving.
I tried to shake myself back to normal, get that... rather awkward encounter out of my mind.

“So, what brings an American like you all the way out here to ze French countryside?” The driver said with a very heavy accent. The silence of his passenger was becoming unsettling.
“Business. Just business,” Kaleb replied, not even looking up from his book, licking his finger and flipping to the next page. It was odd. While the book had plenty of information about several other small towns, the town of Ciel-Etoile only had about a page or two worth of material. And what was on those pages wasn’t entirely helpful.
“What sort of business?” The driver asked, raising an eyebrow.
Kaleb smiled. What a nosy little fella. He contemplated telling him the truth for a moment, but decided to give him the short version. After all, it’s not like anyone would believe the whole truth if he told them.
“...I’m looking for someone,” He replied, looking up after giving it a bit of thought. “They sent me a letter telling me to go to Ciel-Etoile, and I intend to do just that.”
“Ah, I see,” The driver said, looking back at the road. “Just was curious. It’s a bit odd to have business all the way out here.”
“I thought so, too. But I’ve got nothing better to do.” He looked back down at his book, reading about some of the surrounding area as the two of them traveled in silence the rest of the way.
“Here we are,” The driver exclaimed after several hours. “Ciel-Etoile.” He turned to Kaleb, who, to his surprise, was already handing him his credit card. The driver swiped it and handed it back, Kaleb putting it in his wallet and tucking that away in his back jeans pocket. He grabbed his belongings and stepped out of the taxi.
“Thanks for the ride,” He said through the open passenger side window, waving as he watched the car speed off into the distance. He turned back, facing the town. Funny. It really did look how he’d pictured it.
For now, his first plan of action was to find a place to stay. Once he did that, he’d go and find that ‘Conductor of Memories’, whether he’d have to beat his location out of a few people or not.

“Is it okay to leave it around here ma'am?” A voice coming from behind a long, cardboard, and obviously heavy boxed asked, only showing the slightest note of strain.
“Yes, yes, a bit further, no a bit more to your left...There, perfect.” A housewife in her early thirties wearing an apron guided the deliveryman as he carried the package into the house. Making gestures he couldn't possibly see.
“Whew” Armel stood up straight stretching his back after placing the package on the table. Happy to be rid of the troublesome object. “Is that all?”
“Yes, thank you very much. ” The housewife smiled, her hands resting on the expecting bulge underneath the apron.
“Happy to help.” Armel responded, his non-sarcastic tone was bright but for some reason did not come off as being sincere. Taking a step towards the table once again he took the clipboard and pen he had placed earlier and headed towards the door, the housewife trailing him.
“Now if you could just sign here and here please.” Standing at the entranceway he held out the implements with a patented smile.
After a two quick signatures Armel took back the document and pen and gave it a brief look over. “Everything seems to be in order” he smiled from over the clipboard when he felt a tug on his bright green work jacket. Turning his head he was met by an expectant-looking child.
“Mr. Armel next time you come over you have to promise to give me more pointers okay?” The 8 year-old grinned revealing two gaps in his otherwise pure white row of teeth.
“Paul!” His mother began, “Mr. Armel is busy with his own studies. He hardly has time for games.”
She was right, Armel hardly ever played games, much less the one Paul was playing. He just happened to glace by as he was moving the parcels inside and commented on something he thought was obvious. Regardless, “Sure thing!” Armel ruffled Paul's hair for a bit before standing up.
Leaving the small apartment and waving goodbye to the soon to be family of three, Armel turned towards at pastel painted sunset. A mix of disappointment and anxiety stewed beneath his complacent front. Today hadn't yielded any results either. Sighing and looking skywards he thought maybe he was going about this all wrong, maybe magicians didn't use moving companies. Starting his moped he began the long ride uphill back to the warehouse. It looks like this whole "granting your wildest dreams" thing would cut into the sparse free time he had. Fooey.
OOC Notes
Raising his tea to his mouth once more, he soaked in the aroma for a moment before taking a sip, closing his eyes to greater appreciate the flavour, as well as intently listening to his conversation partner, smiling to himself.
“Now don’t be like that.” Devin placed his empty cup to the glass table. “Its beauty can’t compare to you, my darling.” Extending his hand, Devin stroked the side of her cheek.
“Talking to the local flora again, Young Master Winsley?” A middle aged man approached Devin, taking the cup and placing it on his silver tray, quite clearly the butler.
“As always Xavier. Sometimes I feel I’m the only one who truly takes some time to appreciate its variety…” Devin turned from the rose he had held, the delicate sway of its petals and distilled water within the vase the only sign he had disturbed the flower. Rising from his seat, Devin moved over to a nearby Lilac bush, adjusting the direction of their petals.
“You certainly do take the time to appreciate that variety, my young master.” Xavier spoke in a tone of complete understanding. “Shall I fetch you some more tea?”
“That won’t be necessary.” Devin noticed a nearby caterpillar on the leaves of the Lilac bush, laying his hand out to allow it to climb on, cradling it. “I have business to attend to in town, given the letter I received the other day.”
Xavier watched Devin hold the insect for a couple more moments, the way his master had approached him indicative he had more to say.
“The delicate balance of the world…” Devin mumbled some more to himself, musing on the workings of life. “It’s self sufficient, a delicate cycle that nature itself governs…”
With little hesitation, Devin clenched his hand, crushing the bug in his palm. Removing his glove, he handed it to Xavier. “Could you perhaps wash that for me Xavier? I seem to have stained it.”
“Of course Young Master Winsley. I’ll return it to Florence, and prep the car for our departure.” Xavier regarded Devin, and that cold calculating expression of his, the young master taking his jacket from his chair, exiting the greenhouse. The Master’s mood had changed somewhat in the past few days, ever since that letter had arrived. It did not augur well with the servant, but he would perform his duty, regardless.

However, I have been considering starting up a new version of this RPG still on this site, though probably not using the Roleplay Tab as that may prove a bit difficult for what I have in mind. I will say that this new version will have quite a few changes and additions, including the opportunity for a much larger cast with multiple Servants in each Class, new plot elements and activities such as sidequests, but also having servant character creatio play out differently.

But in response to your question, it should say on the main page that Servants are far above the level of modern humans, magus or otherwise. So in order to stand up against Servants, you'd need to have a huge, unparalleled source or artifact of power somewhere (which would likely require strict analysis from the GM, as it's not something that should typically exist) or just go after their Masters, in which case it would just be simpler to summon Assassin if the class isn't already taken.
Also, Servants aren't just fighters, they're also a binding link between the Master and the Grail. Wishing upon the Holy Grail wouldn't be possible without a summoned Servant or spare set of Command seals (which there could be as Charlotte intervened and took one of the Master positions for herself).

But in the meantime though, I have actually started up an expanded version of this game over on Proboards, allowing for more than one Servant per class and having more defined areas and new features and characters. You can find it over here if you're interested: http://other-world-fate.proboards.com/
However, I should warn you that there is an overall preference that, while you can still say which figure you'd like to play and what class, you allow me to create your Servant's character sheet, mainly because of the difficulties I have experience on this site but also others.
Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
I'll try to get another post up for Charlotte to get things moving on, however if this RPG has been having a bit of downtime that's okay, as we still haven't finished deciding the Servant-Master pairings yet and may be awaiting a few more players to get the game settled.

Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
I submitted a character profile for Archer; hopefully it is up to snuff.
Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
It's based off the Persona series of RPGs. I'm not forcing you to join if you don't want to, and I'm not saying that I'll be paying any less attention to this game, but if you would at least look over it I'd be really grateful: roleplay/smt-persona-contest-of-futures/
Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
As for those themes, I particularly liked Emmett's and Saviour's, but all seemed fitting enough.
Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
I can easily see your point about Saviour and Avenger, though with Saviour probably more than Avenger, but that's just me.
I will say something about abilities however. While I still appreciate creativity, definitely agree that limits and weaknesses are necessary and like knowing how things work, being too definitive with them isn't really necessary as it can lead to infodumps and makes magic (not to mention the game) feel more restricted instead of the mysterious, unknowable thing I'm trying to set it up as here.
Not that I'm asking for any further editing on any existing characters, just a warning for future.
On another note, I've finally chosen themes for Charlotte, Emmett and Saviour. What do you think?
Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
As for pairings while I don't mind Lancer being paired with particularly anyone as I've vaguely mapped out how she would react to certain archetypes, she could possibly sympathize with Devan ambitious vision for the future of the world being akin to that of a lord trying to re-shape a country. Also, I too thought Avenger and Saviour would be more late-game figures, possibly being summoned after the war had started. That being said I'm still not one to play favorites and I will leave things to your judgement and adapt as best as I can to them.
Also thank you, I will try my best to not let my moderating duties get in the way of regular updates.
Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
Edit: Also, Lodnir (and, ah, congratulations on making moderator by the way) I found two other images which I think might suit Tomoe, not sure what you think though: http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=pos ... &id=505932 (Also I must admit I don't know who exactly it's of) and http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=pos ... &id=106475 (Apparently actually of her).
About Servants and our new Masters, if we don't end up going with Lancer and Emmett I was thinking we could assign Lancer to Devin and Saber to Emmett, the former becuase Lancer's fighting style and Devin's mannerisms are both based around elegance, and the latter because Saber's the closest thing to a pure hero the game has and Emmett, now being a pack of Tarot Cards, contains knowledge of the Fool's Journey and how it represents life and the rising, or falling, individual.
But not going with that, another idea I have (with Lancer remaining with Emmett) would be for Avenger to go to Ayle and Saviour to Devin. Reason being both Ayle and Pandora are intensely curious about things it would probably be better if they didn't know about (hope that wasn't a spoiler there) and both Devin and Beatrice believe they are redeeming and saving something with the potential to go completely to ruin. We could also partner Ayle up with Saviour, though I can't say why in public.
However, I also wanted to reserve both Avenger and Saviour for extremely special cases, though I believe I could let this slide for both Ayle and Devin.

Re: [OOC] Fate/Heaven and Earth
However, just a warning, but as I think Tanman might be working on a male Master judging by a previous PM (keyword being think), it's likely that I may soon have to place some sort of a ban on male Masters, so that the gender balance here doesn't tilt too much to one side.
