A vengeance driven figure of darkeness that may be more than what appearance suggests.
Name: Loraneva
Age: 19
Height: 5'11
Birthplace: Luca
Classes:
Dark Knight
Appearance:
Nobody would ever guess that under the spiked, imposing armour there would be a fairly beautiful woman, her figure unnoticeable due to the bulkiness of her protection. Beneath the menacing helmet is a pale skinned face with lips that appear almost powdered, hazel eyes and short hair nearly silver in colour. Her features are as a woman her age would be without any sign of wrinkles or defects of the sort... a mysterious dark perfection, almost artificial. What draws attention away from this, however, is her right arm, that hangs uselessly at her side like a ribbon sown to the side of her torso, doll-like. One of her eyes is covered by a rag tied diagonally around her face, dirty and stained, but precious to her.
The creature is named Navris. Navris is usually small enough to sit on Loraneva's shoulder or slither around her neck, but is capable of growing size until he is large enough to be used as a flying mount, more or less the size of three horses. Loraneva and Navris share a connection that could be called telepathic, meaning that the beast speaks for her, but also has it's own free will. Navris is an intimidating sight, one of Loraneva's main weapons like her own haunting appearance. At full size Navris is a typical dragon of fantasy lore, and at any size can use his natural weapons or spew black fire.
Personality: One sees Loraneva's armour, spikes and weapon of choice and the first things that come to mind are blood and torture. Well, Loraneva doesn't want to do anything to change this. It works. Being a mute, even when one grows close to Loraneva not much can be learned to change one's mind regarding her personality. After all, to even have a conversation with her you must speak with a demonic creature. In reality, even though her actions may say otherwise, Loraneva is humble and even shy. The armour hides this well, and if one was to observe her during prolonged period of time, one would learn that she rarely enters in combat, instead relying on the intimidating nature of her appearance and apparently cold silence to get what she wants. To say that Loraneva is kind would be a lie, as would be saying that she is friendly. On the few occasions that she uses Navris to speak the words are usually harsh or lacking emotion, but have other meanings lurking behind the first impression. Humble and shy? Yes, but when you use someone or something else to speak for you things become much easier.
Overall, it is difficult to describe Loraneva's personality. Whereas not essentially evil with a desire to cause pain, her feelings of guilt if forced to do so rarely appear. This is what causes other to see her as a cold being.
However, if it is accepted and Loraneva can get close enough, one will find that she does offer her help and even put herself in harm's way for others. It would be quite accurate to say that Loraneva is kind and friendly, but will go to any measure to achieve her goals, even if the consequences may not justify the end. Icy methods elaborated by a warm heart. Perhaps this explains why she chose to wear the frightening armour and choose her lifestyle in the first place.
Loraneva respects summoners immensely, but hates the end that awaits them. Just like any citizen of Spira, she desires the destruction of Sin, but seeks a different way to do so. It could be said that her mission is a noble one, but it is one of vengeance. Loraneva knows of the fate that lays at the end of a summoner's path and wishes to change this. Her own father was struck down by Yunalesca before completing his pilgrimage as a summoner along with his guardian, her mother.
Equipment: Aside from her armour Loraneva carries a weapon known as Thanos. The abilities she uses often involve sacrificing her own life force in exchange for power. Thanos is the counterweight. Every time any life is taken by Thanos it's very essence is drained to replenish the life Loraneva has lost. This is not a visible effect, but the healing of her wounds and the recuperation of energy is visible if one takes notice. Apart from this, at the hilt of the jagged sword is an orange eye capable of turning living beings to stone upon opening in the same way a certain black magic spell works, targeting anything in its line of sight.
History: Father: Dazek --- Mother: Faine --- Brother: Leo
There are rumours that surround the abilities of a Dark Knight. Some say they are the result of a deal made with the devil, whereas others believe that each time a Dark Knight sacrifices a portion of their life they grow closer to becoming an empty husk. The latter is closer to the truth.
Dazek was a summoner with only one guardian, Faine. Faine was a woman that had chosen to follow a darker warrior path than normal. She was a Dark Knight, and used her almost vampiric abilities to defend Dazek with her life. It was in Zanarkand, at the end of their pilgrimage, where Dazek met his end at the hands of Yunalesca. They rejected the path before them and sought to find another way. Unfortunately, Yunalesca rejected this false hope. They were attacked.
The two had chosen not to die for one reason. A young girl conceived at the beginning of the pilgrimage. That young girl had accompanied them on their travels since the start, growing to the age of five when they finally reached Zanarkand. They needed to live to take care of her, to make sure she lived a healthy life, but they could not forget their noble goal. That was why Loraneva grew on the road.
To continue living they rejected the final choice, and attempting to defend their decision Dazek was killed. Wounded, Faine escaped with her child in her arms until she reached Mt. Gagazet. She was pregnant with another child at the time, and as she took care of Loraneva in those awful conditions she gave birth to a baby boy named Leo.
Both children were victims of their mother's life. The constant sapping of her energy had not effected her own body, but had left her children with irreversible defects. Loraneva had been born mute, unable to use her own right arm, weak against the elements, with a worthless eye and feeble. Leo, however, a result of five more years of life draining, suffered more. He was completely unable to move, confined to his own body's prison. Unable to speak or see, he needed to be fed constantly. It was only a half life.
Eventually, Ronso found the trio. Though not of their nature they took the three in. Leo was always nurtured, and with the help of her mother and the Ronso fighters Loraneva became a warrior. It was all she desired. It was all her mother desired.
The years passed, and at the age of sixteen Loraneva accompanied Faine back to Zanarkand. Together they would face Yunalesca and claim their vengeance. Even with her defects, Loraneva was driven by rage she had obtained from her equally fierce mother. Perhaps with the presence of her father she would have developed differently.
The battle that took place was quick. Faine was still not strong enough to defeat Yunalesca, even with her daughter's help. The unsent female defeated the pair with ease, and this time it was Faine's turn to die. Loraneva escaped once again, taking her mothers body with her as she silently wept, returning her to their home on Gagazet. Leo's sadness could be senses, and Loraneva's soundless cries were expression enough. This was the moment Loraneva vowed she would take vengeance. She took her mother's armour, and her sword, and the creature that had been only a baby during her childhood. Faine had taken in Navris just like the Ronso had taken them in, and had promised Loraneva that by the time she was old enough to fight Navris would be a suitable guardian.
Now armed, riding a creature of myth, Loraneva returned to the civilized world. Her mission was a new one, one that would take time. She would find a group of warriors strong enough to defeat Yunalesca, and bring them to Zanarkand where their battle would tale place a third time.
Of course, having lived in the mountains since the age of five, she did not know first hand the destruction the entity known as Sin was capable of. Only upon returning to threatened civilization did she discover exactly why her father had taken up his pilgrimage. Her mission changed slightly. She would find a strong summoner, and protect that summoner on his or her pilgrimage.
Now, Loraneva searches for summoners, traveling across the lands, stealing and fighting to survive. Now, her only desire is to find a summoner and manipulate that person into defeating Yunalesca, but deep down she can feel another wish. A wish to protect that summoner, not only to defeat Yunalesca, but to rid the world of Sin completely, and in turn, eliminate the need for summoners and their final sacrifice. Could this righteous wish overcome vengeance, or will the hatred persevere until the end?
