Introduction
The story is still very open-ended, leaving a lot of its potential development in character interaction.
--------------------------------------
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
The once-enterprising, fictional city of Duihuan, China. (english translation: "Exchange Rate")
In the late 90's (1997), Duihuan opened itself to more modernized business practices: It was the target of several outsourcing corporations investing in cheap labor overseas. As a result, many people relocated from different areas, or travelled frequently here in an attempt to secure one of the 1,700 new factory positions! woo! :)
Proceeding Duihuan's newfound wealth, operations were put into place to invest in a medium-sized airport, serving mostly as a hub from international airports to smaller locations in China. In 1999 plans for construction were proposed; and by 2001 Duihuan had opened itself to travel.
Duihuan's reputation grew rapidly after 2002 as travelers, backpackers, businessmen and airline hijackers alike were impressed with the pristine condition of its airport and the city itself. "Their bathrooms even had sit-down toilets! :D" With its budding popularity and growing foreign residents, culture hit Duihuan and several small arts and music movements involved themselves in what was once a sleepy Chinese farming town. They even found out about Kurt Cobain only a decade after the fact. (suck it, India)
During late March of 2005, however, disaster struck. News reports hit CNN and for 2 days, people forgot about, "that, like, war or whatever going in that desert...pass that shit dude." The media was aflame with news reports when blame was placed on the Wendy's corporation in regards to the accusation of a human finger allegedly being found in a bowl of delicious, old fashioned style Wendy's chili (now on the affordable dollar menu at participating locations)
Cited from, "this random-ass website":
Devina Cordero, 20, was with her boyfriend at the fast food restaurant when she said the woman, who has not been identified, began gasping and ran up to her saying: "Don't eat it! Look, there's a human finger in our chili."
Cordero said the object appeared cooked and seemed to have a long fingernail at the end. All three people soon became sick.
"We went up to the counter and they told us it was a vegetable," Cordero said. "The people from Wendy's were poking it with a spoon."
[San Jose police officer Enrique] Garcia said the Santa Clara County Health Department is taking over the investigation. "It was some sort of small mass which appeared to have a fingernail. It's a small piece," Garcia said. "They collected the finger and placed it in a freezer for the health department."
Wendy's and the FDA promptly traced the shipment of Grade-A beef used in the chili back to its overseas facility in Duihuan, China. The traditional soybean fields of Duihuan had been converted into a functional livestock grazing area used at the adjacent beef-processing facility. 1,700 positions were quickly relinquished from Duihuan residents in an effort from Wendy's CEO to publicly announce their incompetant foreign scapegoats.
Crippled, Duihuan was forced to fall back on its now-struggling airport, and many of the citizens of the once bustling city fled.
Late 2009, a bid was placed and accepted from Medical Mechanica for the abandoned factory space. A traditional brazen, iron building was established and roughly 200 positions were returned to the unemployed of Duihuan.
You find yourself in Duihuan; either a native, traveler from another area in china, or fresh from a different country altogether. For whatever reason, your existence has been placed temporarily or indefinitely in the hub of a city.
