This is the place, this is the time. Bring us up into the light; up through the ashes. Let the one who will rule be born. Let us serve the Lord of the Ashes!

Introduction

"When this world began, it was in a blaze of destruction. That is the principle this entire world is based around: Life from death. In the beginning, our world, Arhk'morina, was but a barren, cold stone in the vast, empty cosmic oceans of space. However, a terrible calamity - like a great wave of fire washing through the universe - hit this little rock and changed it forever in the most profound ways imaginable. The flames carved out huge trenches and valleys, deep chasms and black voids. The fire was so hot - and so unnatural - that, instead of melting the stone into lava, it turned it to ash. Once the Fires had passed, the world was a brilliant white-gray, no black visible. There were seas of ashes; the white flakes were miles deep, covering all the canyons and mountains of the world. And from this new layout came something new, something wonderful! The foremost layer of ash lifted high into the sky; like billions of white snowflakes flying into the highest reaches of the aether, floating over a still-white world. The ashes in the skies began to swirl like a mighty hurricane, coming together into a giant funnel that slowly began reach toward the ground. The ashes on the ground began to mimic what was happening above, only they reached upward in a single great funnel, attempting to rejoin the rest of the ashes. Before they touched, however, a ball of blue light appeared between them, and the ashes began to swirl around it, creating what was now a tornado with a blue sphere at its center. The sphere grew larger and larger as it fed on the ash until, finally, it had had enough. It compressed quickly, and then burst forth in a great wave of light. This explosion covered the entire world, and sealed the lower ashes within the stone of Arhk'morina, while the upper ashes were compressed tightly to the stone.

"After the light had passed the ashes began to change. To the south they exploded into the sky, and became green on the ground. They created great trees and even spawned animals to live amongst the new forests. To the east the ashes became wide, sprawling fields of grass and beautiful hills. Animals were made to live here as well. To the far north the land around the great cluster of mountains became covered in another kind of white: Ice. Freezing cold winds and blizzards buffeted this region. And to the west the ashes became tundras and deserts; rocky hills and rich deposits of wondrous metals and stones. A land where the sun burned hottest. And last, but not least, the huge chasms and dips big and small around the world were filled suddenly with clear, sparkling water. Creating oceans, lakes, rivers, gulfs, streams, oases, and wells. Deposits of water both above and below the ground were born.

"But, along with this new natural life came unnatural life. Five deities to rule the world. Five personifications of the planet and its powers and wonders. Five deposits of the power of the Fires. From the south was the Stag God, otherwise known as the Horned Man, or Horned One. His name was Cernunnos, the god of the south, the plants, and the animals. From the east was the Old Man of the Sea, the World Shaker, and the Stormbringer: The god called Typhon. He was the god of the east, earth, storms, and the waters of the world. In the north was the Huntress, the Lady of the Mountains: The goddess Skadi. She was the goddess of the north, winter, darkness, and of the hunt. And from the west came a god that was known as the Lord of the West, the Western Ruler, or, most prominently, the Eyes of the West: The god Mephisto. Mephisto was the god of the west, of fire, the desert, metallurgy, and power. The fifth and final deity, however, was not associated with a region of the world. He had no true name, but merely his title: King of the Ashes. The King of the Ashes had the power to create through destruction, and it was his right to rule.

"As the gods and goddess watched the world around them grow - teeming with newer and newer forms of life - the King of the Ashes expressed his displeasure in this world. To the shock of the other four deities, he expressed a wish to destroy this world and begin again, this time it would be completely of his own design. As this would result in their destruction, and the end of all life already on Arhk'morina, the four deities combined their power and attacked the King of the Ashes from all four corners of the world. Their powers combined created a barren, neutral landscape eerily similar to how the world looked before the Fires blessed it with life. This surge of power ripped the land apart and tore stone from the ground. It rose up around the King, taking him higher and higher into the sky as the stone closed up around him. This tower of stone reached unfathomable miles into the sky. When it was completed, it ended with a sharp point, and trapped the King of the Ashes within. This new structure was called a number of names: The Spire, the Needle, the Tower of Ashes. The latter was the most prominent, as the land around it was blanketed by a thin layer of ash. As the King worked to free himself, small flakes of stone peeled away into ash and fluttered to the ground, creating miles of black, torn stone and patches of white-gray ash. Content that life on Arhk'morina was now safe from his selfish intervention, the four deities settled and watched their world grow.

"They knew that the Tower would not hold the King forever, and that one day they would have to defend their world again. But the world had ideas of its own. There soon came a day when all the peoples of the world awoke - and the deities found themselves - with words on their minds and tongues: 'There shall come a day when a Lord of the Ashes will be born to rule. He will be like chalk with skin white as death, and will bring new life to a lost and living world.' The people and gods of the world could not understand what the message was saying exactly, but it promised what they took to be hope, and lived in waiting for the day that the Lord of Ashes - sometimes called the "Chalk King" because of the prophecy - would reign over Arhk'morina.

"Unbeknownst to the deities, the King of the Ashes - all but forgotten by the peoples of the world - freed himself more than one-thousand years after his imprisonment. By carving a relatively small hole through the side of the Tower of Ashes he had broken free without alerting them to his presence. And it was this day that he would begin his campaign to destroy the deities, and then the world."

GODS(Non-Playable)
Mephisto: The Eyes of the West can take a physical form, but he is truly more of a force rather than an actual being. He is the west. He cannot be harmed or killed by attacking him physically, as his power and life come from the land that he reigns over. Through his power, influence, and teachings those that live in the harsh western province have become powerful nations with strong alliances and bonds. To attack the west is not only to attack Mephisto, but all the nations that follow him and dwell there as well.

Cernunnos: The Horned God is extremely powerful - though neither he nor the other two deities are as powerful as Mephisto - as he is the god of the animals and the plants. He rules the southern province of Arhk'morina, and is a frightening figure to some. He stays hidden for the most part, and rarely shows himself to anyone. And when he does he never truly shows himself nor for that long. Usually he appears as a tall figure in the dark, shining a white-blue light that hides him, but still outlines his human body and stag head crowned with towering, sharp antlers.

Typhon: The Old Man of the Sea rules the east, where the sprawling plains end in high, jagged cliffs that tower over the vast ocean that is his kingdom. He brings the rains that help those who settle on his land live, and keeps it pure. He punishes those who commit crimes with violent storms and quakes. He appears mostly as a man with long white hair and a long beard of the same color. But, his true form is frightening. His human upper half reaches as high as the stars. His hands reach east and west and have a hundred dragon heads on each. His bottom half are gigantic viper coils that can reach the top of his head when stretched out and make a hissing noise. His whole body is covered in wings, and fire flashes from his eyes.

Skadi: The Huntress rules the far north, the second harshest environment in the world. Those in her realm have followed her guidance to survive. They have learned to hunt, and build their homes in the mountains in order to keep warm. The giant, vicious wolves of the north are under her power, and therefore they are loyal to those who dwell in her lands and do not harm them unless she commands - which is rare. She sought guidance once from Mephisto, and afterwards she was able to teach her people the art of metallurgy. She usually appears as a tall, beautiful woman with black hair dressed in iron and steel chain mail and armor, armed with a sword and a bow and arrow. Her eyes are like those of her people: Pitch black.

King of the Ashes: The King of the Ashes is the foremost and most powerful of the deities. He alone has the power of creation, but this can only be obtained through destruction. His quest to destroy the world to build it anew - completely of his own design - forced the other four deities to join forces in order to save themselves and all life on Arhk'morina. He can appear in one of two forms: The first is a tall humanoid with no face, and a body that is stark white and looks like it is encased in smooth stone or wood; this body has tendrils of smoke and ash trailing it like a robe, and lifting from his head like hair. His second form is the same body, but the cloak of ash and smoke becomes a tattered, charcoal colored, billowy cloak; and the smoke on his head turns into long, thin strands of hair that seems to be made of pure silver.

Races
Human: Humans inhabit the south and west, but predominantly in the east, which is where they originated. They are few in the west, as the conditions are hard on them, but they have proved to be very adaptable, and many have been able to survive and even thrive amongst the desert peoples. The humans see Typhon as their prominent deity, and regard his laws more than the laws of the other three deities'. Humans overall usually consider Mephisto their second highest deity, but it varies depending on personal preference, and where that human lives. Their culture is the most lax, and their skills in combat and magic are balanced. However, humans have proved to be very crafty, and when given a task or goal they will stick to it until the end. They mostly live in villages in the east, but they do have a few cities. The city Ellan'shik being their most prominent market city, and the richest city in the world; Nalla houses the most powerful human army; and their biggest city, the eastern capital, is Vall sest Myn. Human armor usually consists of bronze and/or leather unless living in the west.

Djinn: The Djinn are the most prominent race in the west, and are sometimes called "the race that mastered the west". Though they take this saying as extremely insulting, as it implies that they control Mephisto, whom they honor, revere, and, most importantly, fear! The Djinni appear humanoid, but with a few differences: They are all very tan or darker, their hands are clawed, their teeth are all sharp, and their eyes have thin, slitted pupils. Warriors of their culture usually cover themselves in exotic and elaborate tattoos. The Djinn are masters of fire magic and - even with Mephisto as their highest deity - they are not as skilled in metallurgy as the Hieme to the north. Their culture is very strict, and Djinni are usually silent and very serious. They have the second most powerful magi, and their warriors are fast, skilled, and very deadly. The Djinn also have the highest market in gold and silver. The Djinn usually live in large village-esque camps, but do have huge fortress cities. The two most prominent cities are Ii'hma, which is their largest commercial city; and the capital of the west is Keep, which is also the home to their greatest army. Djinni armor usually consists of steel, leather, and/or cloth.

Saetesh: The Saetesh are humanoids who live in harmony with the Djinn, and have always lived amongst them as equals. The Saetesh seem to have superhuman tolerance to the sun, as their eyes are never effected by the bright light, and their skin is constantly creamy colored and cold to the touch, like they are living ice. They have powerful eyesight and hearing, able see almost as well as the Hieme do in the dark, and are also skilled hunters. Where the Djinni generally value Cernunnos as their second highest deity, the Saetesh generally value Skadi as theirs. Like the Djinni, the Saetesh are usually very brusque. They are silent warriors, and are the most powerful magi on Arhk'morina. The Saetesh mostly live in the camps throughout the west, but a number of them still live in the cities along with the Djinn. Saetesh armor usually consists of leather and/or cloth.

Minakri'i: The Minakri'i live in the southern forests of the world. These massive forests are teeming with exotic and dangerous animals, as well as tame and fearful ones. The Minak, as they are sometimes referred to, are humanoid felines. They have the strongest natural hearing and eyesight in the world, and the best reflexes. Tall and strong, the Minak make some of the finest warriors in the world. They are fiercely loyal determined, but are not as serious as many think them to be. Truth be told, they enjoy having a good time, but always put work before pleasure. The Minak are extremely fast - the fastest race on Arhk'morina - and graceful, and are the second strongest race in the world. Their highest deity is Cernunnos, and they generally value Typhon as their second highest deity. They are a mostly peaceful people, but if provoked they can become a serious threat. Their homes are high up in the trees, having built vast cities that reache through the giant trees of the forests they live in. Unlike other races they do not name their cities. The cities are reached by entering heavily guarded gates in the bottoms of trees. The insides of - and the areas around and between - the trees are where they built their cities. Minakri'i armor usually consists of leather.

Hieme: The Hieme lie in the north, the second harshest landscape in the world. Their skin is very pale due to the almost constant lack of sunlight, their eyes are pitch black with no whites at all, black veins are visible all across their bodies, their fingers end in claws, their ears are pointed, and their hair is silvery-white. The Hieme are physically the strongest race in the world, are the best metallurgists, and have perfect eyesight in the dark. They value Skadi as their highest deity, and generally see Mephisto as their second highest. The Hieme are quiet but are not extremely serious like the Djinni and the Saetesh. The Hieme do not ride horses like the humans and Djinni do. Instead they ride the huge white wolves of the northern mountains they live in. They live in one huge city carved into the inside of the mountains, and therefore have the most fortified of all homes. Their army is also seen as the most powerful in the world. Hieme armor usually consists of iron and steel.

Fei'eth looked at the man, he was a merchant. One with shoddy business practices at that, but Fei'eth had no choice. If he was to move out of this section of town he needed a cart. He hesitated with the bag of coin in his hand, after all he had gone through he did not want to let it go. "Now let's make this quite clear. Any treachery on your part, and Neka'tran will bite your head off. Understand?" The giant wolf behind him, let out a growl, and snapped it's massive jaws at the merchant. Who simply nodded in reply, fearing that words may anger the beast. Fei'eth smiled, and gave Neka'tran a scratch behind the ears. The reluctantly tossed the bag of money over. The merchant ran to count it while, Fei'eth began loading the cart. First went his tent, then his furnace, then most importantly of all his tools. None of these things were easy to move, and he was glad for the help of the merchant's men. At last they hefted the anvil onto the cart, when the merchant returned. "Ok everything is in place? Good! Let's get this trip over with." Fei'eth climbed on top of Neka'tran, and his companion followed the cart. It would take them an hour to get to the center of the city, from where he was. That was assuming that the trading had already concluded, if the square was full it could take longer. Not to mention they would have to watch for thieves. Fei'eth leaned forward, "Time to start a new life."

The reason that the west was the most inhospitable land in the world was the heat. The north was cold and dark, but by bundling up and carrying a torch - unless you were a Saetesh or Hieme - you were likely to survive the cold of the higher lands. In the west water was scarce. The sun beat your skin mercilessly, cooking and burning all who dared live under its intense glow. The west was filled with raiders, and packs of large, fast, and lethal animals. But the Djinn and the Saetesh had lived here since their beginnings, and they had lived in harmony. They had managed to carve out a living from the land. As well as a rich and powerful nation, to boot! The land here was alive, because here the land was the deity. Mephisto was the force that guided and defended the west. The force that punished the raiders who escaped the long arm of the western army - for the god's arm was even longer.

Dom Draegg Amon wiped his arm across his forehead. His bare arms and face were covered in a thick layer of sweat. Though the Djinni could better tolerate the heat, they still felt it. Unlike the Saetesh, who did not feel the heat of the sun at all. He lifted a skin of water and uncorked it. His slitted eyes narrowed as they swept over the flat stone covered by a thin layer of sand that was carried away in small waves by the wind. He took a small drink of water from the skin and corked it back before tucking it into a pouch on his horse's saddle. He glanced down at the animal and muttered, "You need a name." With a snort he looked back up at the land ahead. It was still morning, and he had plenty of sunlight left before the sweltering day gave way to - ironically - freezing night. In the near distance he could see: Dunes. They rose and fell; dipping and curving; sloping and spiraling. The most unlikely maze in the world. With luck he could reach a camp by nightfall and seek food and shelter for the night. It was an unspoken law in the west to take in travelers, and he needed to conserve as much food as he could for when he could not reach a camp for the night.

Dom gently spurred his horse onward. Desert horses were hardier than eastern horses. They could go longer without food and water, they could go farther without tiring, and were nearly impervious to the heat of the desert wastelands. They were fearless and strong animals, though not deadly like the giant wolves of the north. As the horse trotted forward, Dom noticed it was turning slightly to the left. Tugging on the reigns he managed to get the animal back on the right path. His eyes went back up, and with a grimace he said, "If you keep doing that, horse, I'm going to call you stupid."

It had been nearly two hours since he had set out. The constant alertness was beginning to wear on him. Trading had not concluded for the day yet, but the crowds were thinning. Only one thief tried anything, and when Neka'tran bit his hand off, everyone gave them space. Fei'eth hated thieves, he himself had spent most of his life starving. Yet he never stole anything from anyone, and never would. He was an honest trades man, and enjoyed being so. He finally arrived at his new patch of earth. The tax collector was standing there waiting for him. "How was your ride in sir? Hopefully you did not receive any trouble on the way in." Fei'eth smiled at him, for he knew the tax collector already heard about the thief. The north had cruel rules against thieves, since the beginning of the Hieme in this land. Everyone has to scrape their own survival in this harsh land, therefore thieves are dealt with by the person they stole from. Any punishment can be given, so no one would bother Fei'eth for what he had done. "It was rather pleasant, though busy. Here is your payment." He said tossing the man the property taxes for the month, and with it went the last of his coin. He had only little steel to craft with, but he would have to make enough money off of it to buy more steel. Neka'tran would have to take care of hunting, and feeding the two of them. "Here is the food you requested." said the tax collector. "Enjoy your new home." With that the man left.

They quickly unpacked everything, and the merchants men helped him get the heavy stuff in place. He thanked them once more, then they left too. He quickly set up his tent, and started heating his furnace. Today was important day, as tomorrow a caravan from the west would be coming. The westerners would pay triple for armour, but he would only sell it for double. He really needed the money, so he would have to smith all night. I hope all goes well He thought as he slid one of his few blocks of steel into the furnace.

Raiders were not idiots. Not all of them, anyway. These, however, were. There were only about five, and they had been lying in wait just behind the peak of - and on either side of - a dune. As Dom had passed by, the raiders had tried to surprise him. The first three that came over the dune got a blast of wind magic. Not lethal, but it blew off the top of the dune and sent them into the air. The one coming from in front received an arrow in his chest - this one lethal - and the one coming from behind was faced with Dom personally. The ex-warrior dropped his bow and jumped off his horse. His two scimitars were in his hands within seconds, the weight and feel of the weapons familiar to him. The raider brandished his own sword, his slitted pupils narrowed in anger as he charged Dom. From that move alone Dom could tell that this raider hadn't the faintest training in actual combat. All he knew was not to hold the sword by the shiny part and that you had to swing the sharp edge of the shiny part at the person you wanted to hurt.

Dom waited for the raider to come within striking distance. The criminal yelled as he brought his sword up in a sweeping arc. Dom pivoted on his right foot and parried the blow with his right sword. As he turned he swung his left sword up and through the back of the raider's throat, severing his head from his neck. The head dropped to the ground with a dull thud! and the body continued to run for a few seconds before falling awkwardly to the ground. The sword fell from the raider's grip and hit the sand with a metallic thud. Dom sheathed his swords as he ran back to his horse. As he scooped up his bow and grabbed a few arrows his horse looked back at him; the animal's large, dark eyes observing him with mild disinterest.

"They would have eaten you." Dom grunted to the animal before running up the dune, an arrow already notched. Having been stunned by their fall, they had yet to run or prepare for an attack. One of the raiders was already up and about to run. Dom pulled the ready arrow back and sent it through the raider's throat. The robber's hand went limply to the short spear in shock as he dropped slowly to his knees before falling backwards over his legs. The other two raiders held their hands up and slowly got to their feet. Before they could react Dom notched another arrow and let the tip bury itself in a robber's forehead. He was readying the third arrow when the remaining raider yelled, "Please, let me live!"

Dom paused and lowered the bow, "Why?"

The raider's eyes darted from side-to-side rapidly as he tried to come up with a bargain. A light went off in his head and he smiled nervously, "I'll give you all the money we . . I . . have!"

Dom was silent for a moment, "A decent proposition. But, I don't need you alive to take your money." before the raider could reply Dom fired his final arrow into the raider's chest. He sighed and slid down the dune to his horse. After securing his bow to the saddle he went to check each body, figuring he'd take the raider up on his offer anyway. After searching all five he only found around one-hundred gold coins. Not too much, but not pocket change, either. He dropped the coins into a leather pouch on his belt as he made his way back to the horse. It snorted as he approached, almost as if to say, "Hurry up! We're waisting daylight."

Dom rolled his eyes, "I was protecting you, too." he said irritably as he mounted the animal. "I doubt you would have liked being their evening meal."

His hammer rang out clear through the night, and even though it was close to morning his hammer was not alone. Every other crafter would be trying to get in on this sale, and trying to sell as much as they could. Fei'eth's shortage of steel was a problem, but he had managed to make two breastplates, two sets of bracers, and one helmet. All of the items had beautiful insignia on them, which was the main thing that stood out. A practiced eye, or if anyone were to test the armour, they would see that it had more flex. That was Fei'eth's secret making armour that was just as strong, yet one could move more easily. People thought he had done something to the steel to make it more durable, when in fact he had not. Since they could move more freely, they simply got hit less. So the armour would last them much longer. Fei'eth's finishing touch was to add his signature on each piece. When he looked up the sun was starting to kiss the peaks of the mountains. He would see a short nap before the markets opened.

Somewhere along the line the western nation started sending out their soldiers en mass through the desert complete with provisions, materials for camps, food for horses and even materials for crafting and repairing weapons and armor. These soldiers were tasked with the killing of raiders and the wild animals of the west that threatened citizens. They marched all through the day and then stopped to rest at night and repair any damaged armor and weaponry. Dom had stopped to watch as one of these groups marched by less than a third of a mile away. He took a short drink from his skin flask before corking it and tucking it away again. He grasped the reigns with his left hand and wiped his right hand over his brow. He could hear the sounds of orders being barked and armor and weapons clanking as horses pulled wagons and carts of materials. The soldiers all carried huge packs on their back as they trudged on through the sand.

Like all soldiers . . Dom had hated the daily marching.

But, it did keep him in shape. That was something he was thankful for. It boosted his resolve and his willpower. It taught him to push on no matter what the obstacles and no matter how tired you felt. You just had to keep moving. Dom's lips twitched into the shadow of a smirk before he grabbed the reigns with his right hand and spurred his horse on. The soldiers had their destination, and he had his.

The doors to the market opened, as a flood of people streamed in. They were all odd looking to the Hieme, as all of them had darker skin. However their skin was hard to seen so tightly bundled up. Fei'eth had all his goods on display, and it didn't take long before he had a crowd. Other blacksmiths questioned where he had come from, as his tent had appeared over night. A couple of blacksmiths came over to inspect his work. They nodded their approval, there would be professional respect between them. Though Fei'eth had kept his prices low, there was soon a bidding war for some of the pieces. Before he knew it he had quite a pocket full of gold, and a new order for steel. Hopefully my armour finds good use in the western nation, and hopefully my signature gains some prestige.

Darkness forged this world in flames so dense that they blotted out the very sun. Chaos and destruction wrought life on this barren rock. That power lives on in me. That great cosmic force stayed behind in me. And none shall oppose my dominance! None!

The Tower of Ashes was not just tall. The massive spire of blackened, shedding stone speared the heavens of Arhk'morina. The very tip of the Tower - which was no thicker than the width of a man - pierced the atmosphere of the planet, reaching untold and impossible heights. The great structure appeared rough up close, its surface uneven and missing whole layers in some places. In fact, to the touch it would be smooth as polished marble. Though thin layers of ash would flake off at a touch, the black rock turning to soft gray as it fluttered away - thus speeding the eventual release of the King of the Ashes.

But unbeknownst to the deities, the King would not wait for such a process to take place. He did not need the whole of the Tower to disintegrate. He had been flexing his will for one-thousand years. Sending tiny pulses of his energy through the stone, softening it, readying it. He was willing to wait even a millenium if it meant not alerting the gods and goddess to his plans and presence once free. His anger fueled his patience, ironically. His mind worked at a fast, calculating pace. He knew what he would have to do if victory would be his - and he was intent on accomplishing his plans.

Eventually he was able to move. He shrugged and stretched, and ten feet of stone in every direction fluttered into ash, suddenly taking up much less space. After almost one-hundred years he was no longer immobile. This was a criticle point for the King. He could easily obliterate the rest of the Tower around him, sending the miles of stone above him to the ground. But, that would bring the deities to light of his release immediately, and he would be defeated just as swiftly as before.

He would have to bring them down one-by-one. Mephisto could not be harmed, and was the most powerful of the four. Therefore the King would need to focus on bringing him down, first. He would need to distract the deities, too. He pondered all of this as he slowly dissolved a narrow tunnel through the stone. Finally, after hundreds of years, he broke through the surface of the Tower. Immediately he began to impliment his plan to distract the deities. He needed more time to think of a way to kill Mephisto.

He looked out of the opening he had made and looked down at the sea of ashes surrounding the Tower. A sea that was very deep. If he'd a face, he would have smiled. Slowly the ashes directly around and covering the jagged ring of ripped plates of stone around the Tower began to move and change. This would not take as long.

"Stop!" A woman screamed horrifically from a nearby shop in the main district.

A man dressed in dirty leather emerged from the store, carrying a small bag close to him, running for dear life.

"My jewels, my jewels! Guards! Stop that thief!" The woman plead, stepping out of the store, pointing in the man's direction.

Lucinda heard the commotion, rushing to the source. Her eyes widened as she seen the distressed woman shouting, Lucinda quickly rushed to her.

"My lady, don't you worry. I shall retrieve your belongings." She said calmly, placing a pale hand on the shoulder of the woman, revealing a gold bracelet to signify those of the guardians.

"Lucinda!" The woman proclaimed in shock, noticing the bracelet and staff Lucinda carried. "Oh please help me, please!" She begged, covering her eyes and loudly sobbing.

Lucinda nodded, pulling her hand away. Her eyes glared at the man in the distance, still running.

"Tykie! Here boy!" She yelled, clicking her tongue. Horse hooves clucked against the ground, becoming louder and louder in Lucinda's direction. A pure white stallion emerged from behind her, slowing it's step. Lucinda smiled, grasping the horse's mane lightly and propping herself up on it. The man was still running, almost at the other end of the city now.

Lucinda clicked her tongue again, very lightly nudging the horse's side to signal him to move. Tykie snorted, dashing forward through the crowd, people quickly clearing his way. The man's figure became closer and closer, when suddenly, Lucinda was directly behind him.

"Stop, please!" She warned, Tykie carrying her closely behind the man. The man ignored her, continuing to sprint down the lane. "I warned you.." She muttered, bringing her free hand to her lips, injecting her fingers into her mouth and letting out a loud whistle. A small bark was heard behind her, a golden dog running soon beside her, launching itself onto the man.

"Get him, Kiba!" She screamed, the dog tackling the man, biting his ankle fiercely. The man hollered in pain, trying to kick Kiba off, resulting in Kiba biting harder.

Lucinda pushed herself off Tykie, stepping forward to the man, her staff tied behind her back.

"Settle down, Kiba." She said softly, resulting in the dog pulling back. She crouched down before the man, who was clutching his ankle in pain. Lucinda extended a hand to him. "Jewels, please?" She said, slightly tilting her head to the side.

The man gave her an angry look, using his free hand to grab the sack beside him, slowly handing it to her.

"Promise not to ever do this again?" She asked as the sack reached her hand, her eyes not leaving the man's gaze."

The man gave her a troubled look, then after a few seconds, nodded his head. "Y-yeah. I p-promise." He said, a shocked expression on his face.

Lucinda smiled, slowly getting up and walking back to Tykie. "I never want to see you again, get out." She said softly, placing the small sack into a large bag which hung from the side of the horse.

"W-wait!"" The man proclaimed, standing up, wincing at the pain that shook through him as he stood. "You're not...going to kill me?" He asked, a confused expression on his face.

Lucinda sighed, propping herself back onto Tykie, watching Kiba slowly take his place beside them. She could feel the towns people's gaze at her back.

"An eye for an eye, in turn, will leave the whole world blind. Now go, before the other guards find you." She whispered, loud enough for only him to hear.

The man thanked her, slightly bowing as he winced again. As fast as his crippled body could, he turned around, running out the city gates.

Lucinda watched him leave, then slowly tugged on Tykie's mane, turning them around. The citizens shook their heads, turning away, returning back to a normal afternoon.

The two rarest areas for humans to live in Arhk'morina was the west and the north. They were the two harshest landscapes in the world, their climates not usually very supportive of the human race. They preferred the east and the south, where the temperatures were mild and the land more bearable. Some humans felt locked there, though. They wanted to see the vast and powerful west, or the rugged but beautiful north. Some learned to ignore and live with the extreme heat and cold, others could not and simply returned to the east or south after learning that they were not among the stronger humans.

Faust did not leave the east because he wanted adventure. He did not leave because he felt trapped. He left out of shame. Out of sorrow. He blamed himself for the deaths of his parents, but was surprised to find that in the north his luck seemed to grow against the tide of bad luck ebbing from the evil star in the heavens that had taken ahold of his life. Nonetheless, he learned to love the north. The frozen ocean surrounding it had felt more like a home to him than the high walls and militant atmosphere of Nalla. He had thrown away the uniform and poleaxe of Nalla, and embraced the ways of the highest regions of the world.

Many from the west had come here today. They sought the master craftsmanship found in the north. He had observed a mutual respect - though not without a hint of envy - from the Djinni towards the Hieme. They who were the "children" of the god of metallurgy were bested by those who served the goddess of the hunt. He had never been one for steel and iron armor. Though he found more comfort with an axe than a sword, he preferred the flexibility and light weight of leather and cloth - which is what most humans in the north wore as well.

He made his way through the gathered crowds, passing humans, Djinni, Hieme, Saetesh, and even the odd Minakri'i. Though the north was a harsh land, it had the most diverse population of all the regions of Arhk'morina. The weight of the battle ax on his back, the hatchets and tomahawk on his belt, and the daggers in his boots were almost second nature to him now. The fur and leather provided plenty warmth for him. He had always loved winter in the east when he was younger, now he lived in a land where the season never ended.

He noticed one particularly sizeable crowd, among the gathered were even a few other blacksmiths. He paused, curious as to what could be attracting this kind of attention. Faust made his way to the crowd and easily moved through it. His clothing and weapons marked him as a particular kind of person in the north: A Viking. Aside from the stereotype, the vikings were not all pirates. His particular langskip had been involved in trading and even fighting off the true pirates - which was how he received the scar on the right side of his face.

He reached the front of the crowd and ignored the shouts and chatter of the bidding taking place around him. He looked over the pieces of armor, noting the craftsmanship and even the signature of the particular blacksmith. His eyes rose from the armors to the maker. He seemed short for a Hieme - most of whom where quite tall and very powerful in apperance. He glanced once more at the armor and felt the trace of a smile on his lips. He listened to the bidders and the prices they shouted. The smile grew just a little as he looked back up at the blacksmith, "Are you new to the game?" he asked. "Or are you simply a natural at turning a profit for quality goods?" he asked over the noise crowd.

After the incident, Lucinda returned the jewels to the woman, who thanked and blessed her, as usual.

Once the long day as guardian ended, Lucinda returned home, walking inside to see her parents packing.

"Mama, Papa, where are we going?" She asked aloud, removing the hood of her cloak from her head.

Her mother tied a sack shut, placing it on their dining table. "We're heading North, your father and I will have better business there."

A confused expression came among Lucinda's face, glaring at her mother. "Better business, Mama, this is the biggest marketing town in the East, we're doing just fine here, and why to the North, do you have any idea how harsh the conditions are there?"

Her father walked into the room, carrying a stack of blankets. "Enough!" He yelled, dropping them onto the floor. "Your mother and I have lived here our whole life, it's time for change.." He admitted, walking back into the bedroom, Lucinda quickly rushing after him.

"Papa, what about Grandfather's store? Your family has owned this for generations, and what about me being a Guardian? I have to give it up!?" She demanded, lifting her hands up as she spoke, trying to reason with her father.

"Lucy.." He said softly, turning around. "Grandfather would appreciate this. We're opening our senses for change. Plus, look at you, you've never even seen any other race besides us humans. We need to get you out into the world, Lucy." He sighed, lifting up a large chest from the ground, walking past her.

Lucinda walked back out after him, her glance shifting to her mother, glaring in plead. Her mother shook her head, sighing.
"We've informed the instructor of your future absence. Now hurry, pack up."

Tears beamed in Lucinda's eyes as she turned around, stomping up the set of stairs in anger. All her memories of her grandfather lied within the walls of this store, as well as her childhood embedded into the city. She angrily packed her belongings into a set of bags, her soft cotton dresses, under attire, sets of boots, gloves, soaps, and other items she might need.

She pulled the two bags over her shoulders, marching back down the stairs. Her eyes glanced around the room, her home had been cleared out.

"Lucinda." Her mother said softly, waiting at the back door, extending it open for her. Lucinda nodded, walking outside, seeing a large cart filled with their belongings. She placed her bags among them, her mother sliding in front of the cart next to her father.

Lucinda clicked her tongue, Tykie and Kiba emerging from the other side of the house.
"We're leaving guys.." She said slowly, then biting her tongue from anger. She hopped onto Tykie, who slowly followed the cart.

"It's a long trip, be prepared." Her father warned, then signaling the horses to go.

Lucinda pulled up her hood as her family passed through the city, waving their goodbyes at the fellow townspeople.
In all honesty, she was frightened. She had never been to the North, but had heard horrible stories about it, and the people who resided there.

Her father did not lie, for the trip indeed did last days. The family stopped at night to rest up, and rose early the next day to continue their trip.

As they traveled, the climate greatly changed. The green disappeared, and blizzards ripped around them as they traveled.

Finally, the awaited day came, they entered a town in the North. Lucinda despised it already. The cold air stung her face as her father handed coin to the tax collector, Tykie continuing to follow the cart as it emerged into the town. Lucinda's eyes widened as she glared at the difference in the community. She'd heard about the other races, and everything she heard about them, had seemed to remain true.

After traveling through the town, her parents stopped in front of a small shack looking house. Her mother and father slipped from the front of the cart, pulling their thick clothing tighter around themselves.

"So, how you doing, Lucy?" Her father asked with a cocky smile as he began unloading the cart. Her mother walked into the shack, examining around and nodding, knowing it needed much work, but it was manageable.

Lucy sighed, sliding off Tykie, walking over to help her father. He shook his head, shrugging her off as he picked up a large chest.

"Go on, explore." He said, nodding his head to the distance, signaling her to leave.

"But..what about you and Mama..?" She asked, pulling away. Her father shook his head.

"Don't you worry, and I'll feed Tykie, go on."

Lucida frowned, nodding. She walked over to Tykie, placing a hand on his face, softly kissing his large nose. "I'll be back in a bit, ok? Watch over Mama and Papa for me." Tykie snorted in retort, kicking one of his back legs. Lucinda smiled, whistling softly for Kiba to follow her.

As she walked around the gathering of shops, she smiled softly to herself. "At least I fit in somewhat, huh Kiba?" She joked, looking at some of the local's pale skin. Kiba barked, wagging his tail as he walked beside her.

Lucinda squinted her eyes as she walked towards a large crowd, wondering what the commotion was about. She stood in the back, crossing her arms, glaring at the armor that was up for bid. Kiba laid down beside her, continuing to wag his tale. Her gaze shifted from the armor to the man that spoke, wondering what he meant, raising an eyebrow.

"Make something of the highest quality, and the profit will turn it's self." Fei'eth said with a smile. As he handed a pair of gauntlets over to a particularly large man. Then he gave this new speaker a once over, this man preferred leather. It was obvious by the quality of the armour. "If you are looking for leather, yes I can work it, but I have none right now..." He looked again at the man's boots. "I'm Fei'eth, you are?"

"Make something of the highest quality, and the profit will turn it's self." the blacksmith said with a smile. Faust's eyes moved as the Hieme handed off a pair of gauntlets. He noticed the Hieme inspecting him, "If you are looking for leather, yes I can work it, but I have none right now..." he said. His eyes lowered, which was hard to notice when it came to Hieme, but after being around them for a number of years one began to notice things. "I'm Fei'eth," he introduced himself, "you are?"

"Faust Szevn." Faust replied to the blacksmith's query. "And I'm not in the market for armor at the moment, though I appreciate the offer. I'm sure it would be of the same very fine quality your other works exhibit." he said with a faint grin, nodding back at the crowd of arguing customers fighting over Fei'eth's wares. "The same way they are appreciating it only somewhat quieter." he said with a soft chuckle.

The smile faded as a shiver ran down his spine, and he had the odd feeling of eyes boring into the back of his head. He was being watched. Whether it be with malicious or benign intent, it was still unsettling. Faust slowly turned around a little, his eyes moving over every person behind him until they landed on a single figure. His mind instantly clicked, instinct telling him that this was the person that had set off his personal alarm. Though on first sight he figured it was merely the fact that she had been staring at him that had unsettled him. He could not see nor sense anything dangerous about her.

He blinked and folded his arms over his chest, similar in fashion to the girl's stance, "Is there something about me you find odd?"

"Faust Szevn."... "And I'm not in the market for armor at the moment, though I appreciate the offer. I'm sure it would be of the same very fine quality your other works exhibit." ... "The same way they are appreciating it only somewhat quieter."

Fei'eth chuckled as he sold his last piece of armour, his only remaining breast plate. Now he was hungry, and tired. It had been a long day for him. He watched as the man turned around, and began talking to a woman. This would not have been odd except for the strange look on his face before he did this. Fei'eth went alert, as he began packing up his things. There was not much to do but put he gold in his sturdily locked chest. He did this, while keeping an eye on the man. Neka'tran noted Fei'eth's unease, and was roused from his bed. He came to stand next to Fei'eth, as the two of them looked at the girl the man was talking to. She had a dog, but it was small. Neka'tran was four times as large, and much stronger. Fei'eth's only worry was were to eat. He waited politely for a pause in their conversation, or for it to end. Then he asked "Are you from around here I just moved in last night, and I am looking for a restaurant. Preferably one my large friend will be fed at as well." He smiled, though wolf riders were uncommon, he figured there would be restaurants that fed them.

Lucinda continued to stare at the man, switching her gaze to the other as the two conversed. She looked away for a moment, licking her lips as she glanced among the people. Her gaze ended onto the man again, suddenly see him turn around. Lucinda blinked blankly at him a few times, then uncrossing her arms as he stared her down. She stepped back, shaking her head at the man's gaze.

"Um..s-sorry!" She said loud enough for him to hear, glancing around nervously. "Ah..n-nothing at all, I-I apologize." A small growl emerged from Kiba, Lucinda looking down at her dog, following his gaze. It landed on an even larger animal, Lucinda's eyes widening as she set gaze upon it. "Down, Kiba." She demanded her dog, crouching down beside him, placing a hand on his back, stroking his fur in hope to calm him.

She switched her glance to the other man talking, asking if there was some sort of pub nearby. Lucinda shook her head, frowning in apology. "Sorry, I'm not from around here." Lucinda stayed crouched down, still petting her dog.

The girl seemed shaken by his questioning. She took a step back and uncrossed her arms, her eyes moving around nervously. "Um..s-sorry!" she apologized quickly, the tone of her voice reading unease, like her body language. Faust furrowed his brow. While the tone of her skin seemed what was common to this region of the world, the Viking had the strange inclination that she was not initially of these parts. Nor for very long. "Ah..n-nothing at all, I-I apologize." she stammered, repeating her apology.

Faust was about to speak when he heard a growl from her feet. His eyes lowered quickly and landed on what looked like a dog. He recognized it from his days in Nalla, where dogs were common. Of course you didn't see many in the north. For the most part all one saw were the huge wolves that lived in the forests and mountains. It had taken a defensive - maybe even frightened - stance, not growling at Faust as he had originally thought. The girl looked behind Faust before crouching down and petting her dog, "Down, Kiba." she commanded. Faust turned slightly and saw what the dog was growling at. Standing beside Fei'eth was one of the great wolves of the north.

Faust chuckled and was about to turn back to the girl when Fei'eth spoke, "Are you from around here I just moved in last night, and I am looking for a restaurant. Preferably one my large friend will be fed at as well."

"Sorry, I'm not from around here." the girl said quickly.

Faust glanced back at her before redirecting his attention to Fei'eth, "There's bound to be a tavern here that would have something large and possibly quite bloody for your friend." he said, indicating the wolf. "Though you may have to pay extra. I'm just passing through, but I've seen taverns do so before." he explained. The huge mountain cities of the Hieme were complex marvels of architecture. There the wolf riders were most common, and any pub or tavern would feed wolves for a lower price than the villages around the mountains. Faust turned back to the girl, "Sorry, my name is Faust Szevn. And you are . . ?"

He waited for the girl to introduce herself. "Hmm... well then I guess we will just follow his nose." Fei'eth said laughing. "You are more than welcome to join me, would be nice to have some conversation with dinner." Fei'eth patted Neka'tran, then climbed up on top of him. He then lent over, and whispered in the wolf's ear. Neka'tran began walking down a path heading south. "This way, if you want to join me."

((It's the three day deadline, and I don't want to break my own rules, so . .))

"Hmm... well then I guess we will just follow his nose." Fei'eth said with a laugh. Faust turned to look at the Hieme, missing the girl's introduction. The blacksmith patted his wolf and said, "You are more than welcome to join me, would be nice to have some conversation with dinner." He mounted the wolf and leaned down to whisper something into the animal's ear. The wolf started off at a slow pace, "This way, if you want to join me." Fei'eth called back.

Faust paused and looked back at the girl, "A pleasure." he said quickly, nodding his head. He turned and jogged after Fei'eth, "I appreciate the invitation." he said. "And besides," he laughed, "It will be easier to get in if they know you have a wolf that may become very angry should you be denied a table." he looked around slowly, attempting to pick out a tavern amongst the wooden buildings. One stood out: A tall building of thick, dark wood with a stone foundation and a towering smokestack. Black plumes of smoke poured up, spreading the pleasing scent of cooking meat. Faust pointed to the building, "I think that is where we should be heading."

"Judging by the amount of drool coming out of my boy's mouth, I would say so." Fei'eth continued towards the tavern, then jumped down off his wolf when they got there. "You feed wolves here?" He asked the man at the door. "Ah...well yes, we do... I'm guessing you want to be seated right away?" The man said his eyes never leaving the drooling jaws of the giant wolf next to him. "That would be excellent thank you. People are so nice in this area of town." He said turning to Faust.

"Judging by the amount of drool coming out of my boy's mouth, I would say so." said the blacksmith. Faust jogged ahead to the stone steps of the tavern and knocked on the huge, wooden double doors. They shuddered and slowly swung open. A large Hieme in thick leather clothes stepped out and eyed the shorter human - especially the axes strapped about his person. His pitch black eyes then rolled - apparent by the moving of the glare in them - to Fei'eth and his wolf. Fei'eth dismounted the animal and asked the Hieme if they fed wolves at the tavern.

The villages around the mountains did not have many riders come through, so it was obvious why the Hieme seemed unnerved by the sight, "Ah...well yes, we do... I'm guessing you want to be seated right away?" he stammered his query.

Fei'eth answered, "That would be excellent thank you. People are so nice in this area of town." he directed the last part to Faust, who answered with a wry smirk. The Hieme craned his neck and barked something in his own language. He turned back to the two and said, "We don't have room for your . ." he paused to choose his next words carefully, "mount, so he will need to remain outside." he looked at Fei'eth, "I take it that won't be a problem?" he asked.

Faust looked inside the tavern as he waited for the blacksmith to reply. In the very back was a large, wooden bar. Behind it was a huge stone fireplace that was filled with a roaring blaze. There were spits of roasting meats, and a black cauldron filled with steaming stew hanging in a smaller fireplace. The aroma of the stew was mouthwatering. Barrels of ale and other drinks were lined up behind the bar, and large wooden tables filled the inside of the huge building. It was brightly lit and filled with the sounds of patrons. Another Hieme was walking through the tavern carrying an iron plate heaped with raw meat, some pieces still on the bone. Faust reckoned that those were for Fei'eth's wolf.

Fei'eth had expected that Neka'Tran would have to wait outside. "Of course not a problem." He said then turned to his good friend. "Ok you wait here, buddy. Mind your manners... But if anyone hurts you, then you can bite them. Ok?" The wolf licked Fei'eth by way of reply. Then the Fei'eth turned back to the door man. "Shall we?" He asked, then he watched as the plate of raw meat came out. Poor guy looked like he drew the short straw back in the kitchen, he was sweating bullets. He slowly approached the wolf, then carefully set the plate down. As soon as it touched the ground the man jumped back, in fear. Neka'tran dove in hungrily.

Faust noticed as the Hieme carrying the plate of food for Fei'eth's wolf came closer that he was just a nervous as the Hieme at the door - even more so, maybe. He stepped aside as the Hieme passed him. He watched the wolf carefully before quickly placing the plate in front of the wolf - just short of dropping it - and jumping back. The large animal quickly tore into the chunks of raw meat. Faust's eyebrows raised, "I would never want to be on the receiving end of those jaws." he stated dryly.

He turned and entered the tavern, searching for an empty table. He finally spotted one and made his way through the tables and patrons until he had reached the empty one. He pulled out the rough wooden chair and sat down. A short minute or so later a Hieme came by and placed a plate in front of Faust and Fei'eth. The plates were made of what looked like cast iron, and on them sat wooden bowls filled with beef stew - there was a wooden spoon on each plate - and chunk of fresh bread that had been ripped off of a loaf sat beside the bowls. The same Hieme returned shortly and sat a pint of ale in front of each patron.

Faust picked up his spoon and laughed. He looked at Fei'eth, "One thing I have loved about the north since the day I came here: The hospitality." he chuckled before digging in.

Fei'eth laughed at Faust's comment. "Yes well when you are on the verge of freezing to death all the time, it helps to make friends." Fei'eth said, then dove into his stew. The beef was very tender, and well seasoned. He took in a mouthful of broth, and just let the warm liquid sit in his mouth. Once the warmth had filled his mouth, and body, he swallowed. Then he reached out, and took a sip of ice cold ale, throughly enjoying it as well. "I have never had food so good."

A minute later, the slenderer of the Minakri'is returned, bouncing a dark purple pouch that jingle of coins. The cattish smile on his face told Stripes that they had struck a handsome deal, probably got paid a but more than intended by mistake. He smiled a little back, quickly opening the pouch and splitting the riches like a couple of thieves in the alleys. It turns out that the Inn bought some of the rare Woodland spices they carried as well, the owner and his wife intend to start a family soon and a potent Minakri'i aphrodisiac couldn't hurt their chances.

"Ki Naag" nedetseb tid po stei tad deog reih." Tu'esh chirped.
(I'm going to use this on something good here, you know?)

"Tios-"
(Alrite-)

Stripes leaned on the frosted window, using his wrist to wipe a small portion clear and looked at the many patrons inside. He also wondered how his friend would do it, with Tu'esh's poor use of the common language, he would have to be extremely fortunate to even hold a decent conversation, let alone buy something at a discount.

"Nederteot tot ed neredna retal, neot u naadeg. Ki liw gaarg srednivdap ed tkram nee ejkuts redrev." He said/growled in reply, his friend then patted farewell on his back before disappearing into the snow trodden streets.
(Go catch up with the others, they must be worried, I want to scout around the market abit here.)

The truth was, the allure of the tavern made it a hard temptation to resist. As he opened the door, a rush of warm air followed by a chorus of conversations flooded past him. The outside cold was fine, sure, but it felt a little better inside. Carefully, mindful of people who were behind him, he manuevered past the stairs then the kitchen before he saw the counter and it's many patrons.

The snow had already melted on him by the time he reached it and as he glanced over the numerous customers before he would make his order, something in particular caught his eye. He had to lift his headband a little to get a clearer view of it.

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Plot advancing post, soon to come?

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

:D My character would be at the backdoor of the tavern they arrived at with another person, making a sales of recently caught game for pocketmoney.

Most likely no one will notice or find them particularly any point of interest yet, anyone find the tabbed roleplay's errors annoying?

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

It looks good. I've accepted it, and you can start posting whenever you like!

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

I've put in a character profile :], there might be some kinks to hammer out and if anyone finds any feel free to tell me.

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

No, no! Not at all. In fact that's what we need is more characters.

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Is it too crowded for me to add another character in here? :]

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Fei'eth, Lucinda, and Faust are in the north, Dom is in the west. I'm going to do another "event" post soon to start moving the plot further along.

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Anyone to give an overview of what's happening right now, and where everyone is?

It's abit @.@ing.

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Yay!

Okay, thanks. ^^

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Lilikins, I have accepted your character. You are now free to post!

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Hello, I sent in a character application for this Roleplay. :)

The storyline is outstanding, something great to work with! Very well thought of, and wonderful use of words.

I really look forward to participating in this story, please reply back when I'm allowed to post.

I'm brand new to these forums, so please bare with me. xD

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

The plot is that - of course - the King of the Ashes has broken free and will attempt to destroy the other four deities. I'll make a post soon where the King of the Ashes breaks free and that will start the main conflict. The characters will meet by being forced probably to the north by the King's forces. I'll have the deities pop up from time to time. Seems kinda vague, but it'll make sense as it goes.

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

How will our characters meet? What's the main plot?

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

It has already started. So far there's already my character and one other, if you'd like to make one then I'll look it over. I should be making another post today.

Re: [OOC] From Ashes . . . .

Finally, I found it! When is this starting?
