“Good morning, and welcome to Saturday Status, Our top story today is the breakdown of the Dejima situation following the GSDA’s occupation of the bridges and surrounding area. The rebellious refugees declared themselves an autonomous nation consisting of the island of Dejima and 15 miles of the cost across the bridge. Following this declaration the GSDA swiftly mobilized and took over the coastal areas one the mainland side of the Kiyabuka Bridge and surrounded the city. At 11:00 this morning a missile attack on the military harbor and Ammunition Production Plant crippled the Refugee’s initial attempts to counter attack and it is believed that-” the news woman stopped for a moment as a man form off screen handed her a report which she read over while holding a hand to her ear to listen to her briefing. A few seconds later she spoke again, “Ladies and Gentlemen, we have just received breaking news. At 11: 47 PM the refugees of Dejima issued a statement saying that they currently possess an atomic warhead and are prepared to use the weapon unless the GSDA and MDA forces withdrawal immediately and the government of Japan as well as the United Nations acknowledge the refugees sovereignty. I have also been informed that due to this development we will be extending this morning’s broadcast with updates on the hour.”

The Feed was cut off as the face of the Minister of Home Affairs came up on the briefing room’s monitor. “As you can see we have a serious issue in Dejima. Sections 8, 4, and 9 are currently on their way into the hot zone to recover the nuke and the rebel leaders but we have a different mission in mind for you… Section 6 is ordered to head into Dejima and secure the Sagawa facility on the south end. Within this facility is a man, Doctor Hilder, He is the leading developer on Project BREAKPOINT, an experimental think tank design that would put the GSDA at the forefront of autonomous warfare. Your mission is to retrieve the data and doctor and extract before the MDA sterilizes the facility at 0500 tomorrow. That leaves you with 17 hours to complete the mission. Good luck.” With that the old man’s flabby face went black and the team was left in darkness.

The team leader, Ichiro Akihiko turned to them with a serious look in his eye, “You heard him, mount up!”

Section 6 History: Section six is one of twelve public security divisions that operate solely under the jurisdiction of the cabinet and not in conjuncture with the GDSA (sections 4 and 8 are units that are under the GSDA). The section is one of the younger groups, the predecessor to them all being Section 9 and section 1, that was only recently formed in the past 4 yours with members from the older units. The Section is highly funded, having three helicopters and two tilt-rotors plus a full squad of Uchikoma fully out loaded. The Team is funded by the police and a private contributor that is highly secretive but very generous (the team leader Ichiro doesn’t ask questions and suggests that the members do the same). The team is often called section 9 2.0 by the other security sections and police as the group is legendary in a way that is second only to the originals. Still, they have been known to be rather good and who knows; perhaps time will put this group at the top.

This RP is based in the Ghost in the Shell SAC (Stand Alone Complex) 2nd Gig world at the last few episodes and beyond. You can find streaming of this show at http://www.animefreak.com and find information on the universe at http://ghostintheshell.wikia.com/wiki/G ... Shell_Wiki. This RP will not be loosely based on this show, it will be heavily based on the show so be prepared for events from the show to be brought up in conversation. There are many NPC’s from the show that the team may have to encounter and while I do not object to you using some characters from the show as NPC’s at times (please use original PC’s though) try to only use them in a way that you are confident would be in character for them.

The above introduction is only the intro to the RP and while the team will have a main case to work on they are still an investigative police unit like Section 9 dealing with murderers and terrorists connected to the main case. These offshoot cases will be lead by your character (each Player will get their chance at a case) with the team running back up, so be prepared to play GM for a bit. If you are not comfortable with this please feel free to still apply and we will work something out. I will be sending you guys PMs with information on evidence your character might run across so yes this is a fully functional detective like RP but with more Shooting and Explosions.

Character skeleton:

Name: (preferably Japanese Sounding)
Gender: (actual/ apparent… just because the mind is in a female body doesn’t mean it is female)
Age:
Full Cybernetic: Y/N (Don’t be quick to answer this, cybernetics are not the first choice, even for us)
Marital Status:
Description: (Feel free to use the Shows artwork, its rather good)
Personality:
Equipment: (in this portion of the application post up what parts of you are cybernetic, all members do have cyberbrains.)
History: (the past of your character, remember there was a major war not but a decade and a half ago, use that. The Public Safety Agency recruits from military and law enforcement alike. You can be a foreign National who is in Japan now, be creative and don’t be afraid to have a case link into your character’s past.)

General Information: For Equipment look on this website; http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Ghost_in ... ex_2nd_Gig
For the Think tanks that the section uses be aware that we use Uchikoma and not Tachikoma, however our Uchikoma will evolve. (Not everyone has to have a personal unit but some might wish to and some might just see them as tools. Ex; Batou from the show seems to think of his as a pet while Togusa thinks of them as machines)

Needed characters:
Section 3 Chief: Open
Section 3 Team Leader: Ichiro Akihiko (Elrith Eldwind)
Section 3 Cyber Unit Leader: Open (this is the team’s hacker specialist)
Section 3 Sniper: Open
Section 3 Field Operative: Open
Section 3 Field Operative: Open
Section 3 Field Operative: Open
Section 3 Field Operative: Open
Section 3 Field Operative: Open

While everyone can be good at hacking and such the reason the teams are so strong is that they each are specialists who add their skills to the team’s arsenal. Each team member does have basic tactical skills, just some are better at certain things.

Terms to know-
1. Stand Alone Complex: often referred to in the show as a type of crime it is a difficult concept to explain. Put in basic terms a Stand Alone Complex is an instance in which a multitude of copy cat personalities and actions are carried out by a group of individuals who have assembled subconsciously without the presence of an originator. Usually the teams are dealing with a group of criminals who perform individual crimes with only a single similarity which was born of an unknown origin that is not directly connected to the perpetrators. I could go on and on about this but we’ll discuss it more in RP
2. Public Security Division (followed by a number): a set of covert operation public safety officers who are skilled in military and armed operations as well as investigations. Usually comprised of personnel that are mostly cyborg these teams are often made up of members with far greater specs than your average bodies even in law enforcement circles. They are just under military special ops units and are highly funded considering their small size.
3. “Full Cyborg”: a misnomer that first has one thinking that the person described is fully cyberized but actually it is meant to describe a person with about 80% prosthetics built into them. These persons are especially dangerous and have abilities far beyond that of a usual human while also being harder to kill. Still the down sides are that they are about 4 times as heavy as a regular person or their size might suggest and they are also unable to swim or heal without replacing their damaged parts which can be difficult on the run. That and a highly skilled hacker can get through their ghost line and slip past their barrier arrays to take over complete control of the body… but this isn’t easy and most can’t even begin to imagine such feats.
4. Barrier Arrays: complex mazes of data and viruses built and quarantined around a person’s ghost line and cyberbrain as well as important information. These can be slight like a password and username interface to a full defense barrier array which would be similar to the pentagon’s security plus a few firewalls and Trojans added in. If one fails to correctly navigate an array they can be back-hacked, booted, coded, infected, or burned (literally their cyberbrains are spiked and thus destroying their brain and killing them)
5. Dive: to dive an array or into general cyberspace is the same as to access it, though for the Public Security Sections it usually entitles hacking into the target.
6. GSDA & MSDA: Ground Self Defense Army, the largest military force in Japan it is made up of the ground forces in the SDA or SDF and the Japanese Navy called the Maritime Self Defense Army.
7. Japanese Miracle: a system of radiation scrubber technology using a cloud of airborne micro-machines which collect and store the radiation before falling to the ground where they are then incinerated. It was what placed Japan atop the world stage after Nuclear World War II and non nuclear World War IV (they were used to clean up the remaining pockets of radiation and to prevent plague) that have set the backdrop for the world.
8. External Memory: temporary memory storage a person purchases and loads into a separate location that they can wirelessly access, this is much like having a private library to be used by the person who creates it to increase their accessible knowledge for spur of the moment conversation. It is unclear if schools forbid the use of these for tests… but the courts forbid them for trials. (both a joke and a serious statement respectively)

More will be added…

The RP will begin on Saturday March 5th, 2010. Please submit a character before then. While I might seem like a strict GM at first glance you’ll be surprised to find I am very open to new ideas so submit and I’ll message you with any changes or adjustments needed and we can discuss it.

OOC Notes

# Japan, 2032, 2011-04-06 07:29:06, as written by Eli the Walker
So this was what their careers had come to?

Picking up a doctor?

When he had been told Section 6 was aimed towards more traditional special operations, Shibutani Matsui (Juene Mort when he had been in Mexico) had accepted under the idea that he would be getting to do more exciting operations than rescuing a weapons developer. Back when he had been in Mexico (privelaged knowledge that only the highest ranks of the Japanese government knew, unknown even by his fellow team members), he hadn't needed to worry about rescuing anybody. His mission had been a simple one: find somebody, track them, and eventually kill them. Or they could get even more simple: set up a sniper's nest, observe an area, and kill anybody from the "enemy of the week" for their mercenary group who came through there. Now though, he worked for a government, and so he had to get used to the fact that he couldn't always just be killing things. After all, he was public security.

Besides that, back then he didn't have a fiance.

Now he had Jessica waiting at home for him. His priorities had changed.

With a cigarette resting loosely between his lips, Matsui looked over the weaponry that was laid out on the table in front of it. There were two primary pieces of equipment that stood out: his C26 assault rifle, and his Seburo .50 caliber rifle. While most members of the team went with the C30, Matsui stuck with the older rifle. He preferred it for it's slightly higher firing rate and laser (not that he needed the laser to be accurate, mind). Then, the sniper rifle could be explained much more simply: he was the sections sniper. If he didn't have a heavy-duty scoped rifle, then he probably wouldn't be able to do his job as well as he had over these years. This particular rifle was one that he had been using for the past couple of years, and he had taken extremely good care of it. A good weapon is like a good women: hard to come by and it can be a pain when you lose either. Right now, Matsui slowly polished off the metal furniture of the rifle with a cloth, examining the rifle with an approving eye (the only sign would be his facial expression, seeing as his eyes were artificial).

He was in the armory: waiting for his fellow team members to arrive.

just FYI we are section 3 not 6 as 6 is the rangers. And know that we are going in on the heels of the rangers so that should tell you the time limits we have before the nuke should hit.
