Introduction
At the same time, the cities' crime is skyrocketing, and the Tribunal needs to find some worthy individuals to help. Groups of criminals are springing up trying to take what they can before others do. One of the main groups, the Goblin Mafia has control of almost the entire northern district and is threatening to take the entire city. Glagonar, the Goblinfather, has secured the support of several spots on the Tribunal through blackmail and bribery.
Our story begins as our characters spot fliers throughout the city advertising the start of a new guard. Some will intend to join the guard, either for love of justice, the pay, the power or maybe even some malicious reasons. Other characters may view the announcements as a bad thing, worrying that this may put an end to their corrupt business. The Tribunal will be interviewing for a few days, and people of all backgrounds are already lining up out the old castle walls to apply for the position.
Rules
Put your race, age, background, class and description at least. Any other information you feel is necessary for your character is also appreciated.
Character sheet:
Name:
Race:
Age:
Class:
Description:
Background:
Almost any fantasy race is allowed. Realize that if you are any type of undead (including vampire), a goblin, cyclops or an imp, you are evil and other characters will try to kill you. If you are a troll, orc or ogre, you will be extremely stupid. Also, mixes between races are acceptable, but within the RP they will be disdained. Also, you do not have to be a goblin to be in the goblin mafia, they take all races and types.
Magic will be very limited. Only Elves and other magical creatures can use magic. If your character happens to be half elf, you can use magic, but his capacity for magic will be less than half of a full elf.
If you want to have several characters, that will be fine, but I would rather you only have one main character and then a few smaller characters, such as a Tribunal member.

OOC Notes
However, one person is not waking up. He has been awake all night, patrolling the streets looking for burglars and troublemakers. His name is Samuel Dimas and he used to be a commander in the King's guard. Samuel is out of a job though, because the King is dead. The past year and a half, Samuel has been serving his own sort of vigilante justice in the absence of a guard with which to work. He now takes his old armor and scouts the city, making sure that the citizens are safe. If he didn't have this, he wouldn't have anything.
Now that the sun is rising, Samuel begins to regret having stayed up all night. He had only planned on staying up for a few hours, just long enough to satisfy his need to protect. This morning he has some very important business to attend to, something that has been stewing for the past few months. Samuel begins to head in the direction of the political district.
Samuel walks into the castle that has been converted into a political building, in which the Tribunal meets. The giant halls are still quite a mess, a year and a half after the overthrowing of the old king. Very few decorative items are left on the walls, as most everything has been taken as loot. Most of what is left are the paintings of the previous kings that are hung too high for anyone to reach. Most people would not want them anyways, as they have been destroyed with arrows and fire. Finally, the hall leads to a giant room, the old throne room, where the Tribunal is sitting around a long table.
"Ah, and here he is now!" says a chubby man cheerfully. He is wearing some of the nicest noble clothes that can be found in Raygin, but the man stretches the clothes to where they don't look very nice anymore. This is Tribune Foldio, the only Tribune member that Samuel believes hasn't been corrupted with power. Around him are seated the other 9 Tribunes, each of them looking unsmiling at Samuel.
"Good morning, Tribunes," says Samuel as he takes a small bow to the group of politicians seated in front of him.
"We expect that you are ready for this sure to be daunting task?" asks a dark man on the end of the table: Tribune Drixin, a foreigner.
"You make it seem so much harder than it really should be-" Samuel gets cut off by Tribune Drixin.
"Maybe if you don't think this will be that difficult, we should find someone who is more prepared?" Drixin interrupts.
Everyone in the room seems to be taken aback by Drixin's sudden outburst, but Samuel keeps his cool and attempts to answer Tribune Drixin without losing his temper as well.
"I assure you sir, that I am not taking this lightly. I understand that this will take a lot of effort, but I am prepared to put in as much time as is necessary.
Tribune Herrig, the only dwarf Tribune, says, "We are sure that you can do it. You are the most qualified for this job, and have supported the Tribunal since King Toseph, er, left the throne."
The room grows silent as it remembers an event that happened so long ago, but seems like only yesterday.
Foldio, the chubby Tribune speaks again, "Yes, well, we have full confidence in you! I trust that you have seen the fliers posted around the city?"
Samuel had seen the flier almost everywhere. He had read it over many times and had it memorized, word for word. It was certain that many people would come to fill the positions, but they might not all be qualified for this job.
"Of course, I'm sure that they will draw many strong-willed individuals." responds Samuel.
The group then hears what sounds like a giant crowd of people outside. Samuel Dimas puts his hand on his sword and glances outside. What he sees shocks him. There is a crowd of over a hundred people waiting outside.
"Are you sure you are ready for this, Captain Dimas?" says Tribune Drixin, putting emphasis on "Captain".
"Definitely."

The whole ordeal caused Kerix to ponder the fragile nature of things as he sat quietly. The way that the simplest acts could carry a person along a stream of consequences that could neither be foreseen or avoided. "This is a fine mess you have gotten yourself into," he again joked to himself. He knew the truth of the matter was that if the day ended without great complication it would be epic indeed.
As if he had summoned the chaos with his ill thoughts, suddenly a large group of people began to gather near the entrance to the castle. He had not picked his vantage point in order to count people, but was still unsettled that size of the mob had escaped his immediate comprehension. It was as varied as it was large, and he knew that they were likely responding to the Tibunal's request for applicants to the city guard. The day would prove to be interesting indeed, if not much worse. Though he knew all too well that any situation, however bad it may seem, could always get worse and didn't need to be helped along by saying it couldn't be.
"Let's hope for an early sunset, I think Samuel", he whispered to himself as he crept from his spot and began to weave seamlessly through the masses.
OOC Notes
Eventually, they arrived at their destination. The tunnel, which had previously seemed to close aorund them like the gullet of some monstrous serpent, began to widen, and the stuffy air became somewhat less foul. At last, the arrived at a heavy, iron door with a huge knocker embedded on its breast. Their guide approached the door, clutching the knocker in one long-fingered hand, and battered it twice against the metal. With a guttural groan, the immense door swing open, and a blast of hot air hit the goblins. In awed silence, they followed the cloaked man into the hidden sanctuary.
An enormous entrance hall greeted them, the ceiling was so tall it was hidden beneath a veil of shadow. The walls were paved with ancient stone, and a grand staircase lay at their feet, descending into the main hall. Two pillars stood like stony sentinels on either side of it, glaring down at them. The guide did not halt to let them appreciate the scale of their Gothic surroundings, but continued down the staircase. The goblins followed without question.
Dotted around the main hall their were many tents and campfires that reminded the goblins of a warcamp. Grizzled men clustered around them, all cloaked in thick, tatty clothes, some with animal furs and others with rusted armour. All were armed, and all looked as if they had taken their fair share of lives. As the goblins and their guide passed, all fell silent, turning and glaring at them with vicious eyes. The reptiles collectively gulped and huddled closer to their guide, who appeared not to notice the mercenaries were there.
After what seemed like hours, they arrived at the end of the colossal hall, at another door. This one was wooden, yet heavy set in the stone walls. The guide approached it and knocked. It swung open as soon as his knuckles left the wood. The goblins and their guide entered into a small, stuffy room. Glancing around, their scaline eyes, specifically designed to work in the dark, could only faintly make out the walls that fitted tightly around them. In the centre of the little room, directly in front of them, was a wooden table and four chairs. Three of the chairs were closest to them, and one was occupied.
The door slammed shut behind them, the guide slipping out like a wraith. The goblins looked around nervously, then back at the table. Another cloaked man sat at it, his stubbled chin the only visible part of his anatomy.
" Gentlemen." The man's voice was faultlessly calm, his tone gentle. Yet goblins were famed for their sixth sense. When a goblin felt a tingle in the back of his neck, as a rule, trouble was nearby. Right now, all three goblin necks were virtually rippling with electricity.
"Are..Are you the Listener?" The bravest of the goblins whimpered.
A nod of the head was perceptible from behind the cloak. " I am. Please, take a seat."
The three lizards did as instructed. Twitching nervously, they plonked themselves down on the chairs, their feet dangling short of the ground.
"So, my friends...How can I help you?"
The bravest goblin, a sergeant of the Mafia, spoke again. The others loked down at their feet.
" We're...We're here with a message from Glagonar."
If they could see his eyebrow, they would have been sure that it was raised. " Indeed? And what does your honourable patron have to tell me?"
"He says.." The goblin cleared his throat and puffed out his chest, "..."It's almost ready"."
The cloaked man nodded again. " Excellent. Thank him graciously for his information. My colleague here shall show you out."
The goblins looked up to see who he refered to, and leapt in their seats as they noticed the guide, standing still as stone by their side. How hadn't they heard him approach?
"Good day, gentlemen."
The goblins got up and filed out in a somewhat grateful manner, as if they hadn't expected to leave alive. The guide followed, after a swift nod to his master, and shut the door behind him. Raegus gazed after them, thinking. When the goblins had delivered their chieftain's message, he had hid his excitement behind an emotionless mask. But in truth, he was buzzing with anticipation. It was almost ready...Almost ready...
Now, it wouldn't be long until he could cast aside his black cloak and his alias of "The Listener". Now, it wouldn't be long until his plan all came together. Now, it wouldn't be long until the Tribunal lay dead at his feet, and the voices of all people rang out from every corner of the city:
"Long Live King Raegus the Great!"

After a moment of confusion, caused by a punch on his nose, he jumped backwards. "You really shouldn't have done that," he said slyly, while he wiped the blood from his lips "you really want to repeat history?" Again the orc became blinded by rage, leaping towards the elf, ready to smash his head on the elven stomach.
But the elf was prepared this time. "You're to good Shindo, this is exactely how I planned it," he thought "let's have some fun"
When the orc saw Shindo's smile, he lost some of his confidence, but it was to late to turn back. He closed his eyes, preparing for the blow.
Suddenly he felt a feet on his back, and lost his balance immediately after it. But before he had hit the ground a knee was planted in his face, causing the awful sound of bones snapping.
"Waaaaagghhhhh!!!!" The orc sreamend, while entering a blood-lusted frenzy. Charging at where he thought the elf was he made the same mistake as just a minute ago, but this time the elf duck, kicking the orcs legs away. The orc tripped and when his face was an inch away from the ground, he felt someone gripping his arm, almost dislocating it, but it did safe his face.
Instead of smashing the ground with his face, the orc was getting slamed into a wall.
"Do you want more?" Shindo asked, while a glance crossed his eyes. The orc mumbeld something and stumpled away, followed by his somewhat dissapointed friends. "That's what I was thinking." Shindo whispered.
Just when he started to do his 'Mister Cool' walk to get out of the alley a flier was being tossed up in his face, while he was reading it he thought "Hmm, this could be an interesting job, and otherwise there will be enough people to rob"

But that is not the only place that thieves ply their trade. Zag in paticular had no interest in the wares of the petty street vendors. What he was interested in, however, was the crowd of people milling about the castle. He knew full well what the fuss was about- setting up a City Watch, but that was not his primary interest. His primary interest was the great opportunity the mob presented for him to make a profit. He had already swindled several people out of what little change they had on them using his "lucky deck". It wasn't rigged like that of most con-men, he was just an incredibly skilled and sly dealer (not to mention an expert when it came to slight of hand). He now purposefully strode through the crowd, and spotted another easy target- a man with a pouch hanging from his belt. He now deliberately walked towards the man and bumped into him. The man protested, as one would if a street goblin had just touched them. Zag made a hurried apology and scurried away, the pouch in his hand. By the time the man realised it was missing, he would be long gone. Opening it up, he found it to be full of gold. He grinned in triumph- this was exactly what he had been hoping for.
Suddenly a hand clamped down onto his shoulder. Looking up, he saw one of he Tribune Guards had caught him. Crap. This was not what he wanted. He had a number of scenarios planned in his head, and was about to wriggle away the man spoke. He was taken totally by surprise by the man's words.
"A goblin, eh? Never thought one of you would try to join the City Watch! Well, you're up next, off you go." With that the guard shoved him forwards, away from the crowd and up the castle steps. How the hell was he going to get himself out of this one? He walked slowly through the path in the corridors that had been clearly marked for him to follow. He didn't want to be a member of the City Watch, did he? Did he? Suddenly it dawned on him that perhaps he should go with it. The job had its perks- power over those who had always looked down on him, bribes, and possibly even the odd bit of loot. Not a bad package, when you thought about it. In a complete change of mind, he decided he would attempt to get into the Watch, and now he strode quickly and purposefully towards the hall where he would be assessed...

A month ago, Lord Level ordered Diana to find five powerful men so he could drain their energy. Diana's master had been a wizard of immense strength, but old age took a toll on him. Samuel was one of these five men. Diana couldn't wait to break him. "Will!" Diana yelled. "Yes my mistress?" Her pet was tired. He stood guard for the past three days without sleep or much food. She didn't care. "I will be leaving, so I want you to watch over my stuff." "Of course I would do that mistress." Will said obediently.
After putting on her leather suit for which Diana was most known for, and her whip for which Diana was most feared for, she left her room. Will marched around the hallway, making sure of no intruders. Her landlord wished her good luck for some odd reason, and Diana left the Queenly Hotel, the building the two had been staying in. Many peasants ran, some were just too stunned to move at all. Men who did not know who Diana was blew kisses at her. The leather suit Diana was wearing was tight, not letting any air in and showing off her body. It was as if she was wearing a darker, second skin. She liked the attention, but she disliked how she got it. People were suppose to fear her, not swoon over her. She still kept a dominant face, not returning any sort of attention back to the men. For half an hour, Diana kept on walking around the city, staring at the grand palace in which the old king use to live in. It was even grander than Level's home, as if the gods themselves built the palace. As she pasted the market district, Diana noticed three men following her. They looked strong, and very unclean. Probably some thieves... or maybe rapists, thought Diana. She walked around a dark corner, hearing the men laughing. The three probably thought that they had her. The biggest one, the leader, came around the corner first, feeling Diana's blade. It only stabbed his arm though.
The man did not scream nor did he want Diana to scream. Some of the few guards who stayed loyal to the kingdom were patrolling the grounds, and many customers were haggling with the shop keepers. He walked towards Diana, pushes her back. When she was far enough back in the alley for no one to see, he would rape her. Diana kicked the man in his groin, making him let out a small whelp. The man quickly recovered, grabbing Diana by her arm and threw her onto the ground. No one could see them now. "Shouldn't your wound be bandaged first?" The youngest man, probably not even eighteen yet, told the leader. "Be quiet! It is only a cut." The leader said in a rough voice. He pulled out a sword, ordering Diana to take off her clothes. She refused. "Do you want this sword down your throat?" The man said. Diana could feel it, her rage building up. "I will not listen to scum like you." Diana said. "What did you just say?" Before Diana could even retaliate, the leader slapped her across the face. "Women like you need to be taught something. Jack, Harold, hold her down!" One man held her left hand and leg down, while the other did the same to her right side. The leader grabbed Diana's breasts and pulled. She let out a small cry at the pain. "Let go or else you will rue the day that your mother gave birth to you!" Diana told the men. The leader laughed, "You think you can do anything? Jack, take off her clothes for me." "Okay Devlin." Jack, the youngest one, slowly unzipped her dress for Devlin, their leader. He left her left leg free. Diana kicked Devlin's jaw. He fell on his back, holding his bleeding nose. "You whore!" Devlin said, kicking Diana's face to the ground. Jack and Harold moved around in fear of getting hit by Devlin.
Diana felt numb. She only felt the need to kill this man. She wanted to kill the three. "Open yer' legs." Devlin ordered Diana to do. Diana slowly got off the ground, grabbing hold of her whip. "Get back down and take off yer' trousers." Before Devlin could slap Diana, she whipped the man across his face. Harold tried to get her, but Diana whipped him too. Diana kicked Devlin across his face, then whipped him again. She did the same for Harold. Anger filled Diana. The need to kill filled Diana. She whipped Harold about twenty times before she turned to Devlin. He ran away. Harold laid on the ground, his face bloodied, and his body scarred. She was mad at herself for not killing the man, but at least she could kill the other two. Diana whipped Harold again, and again, for ten minutes she did this. Loud crackles filled the air as the leather whip slapped against the man's skin. Annoyed, Diana just grabbed her knife, and jabbed it through the man's neck, letting him bleed to death. She turned to Jack. He was crying, holding his arms over his face. "I only did what my brother said!" Jack said as he sobbed. "Leave. Now." Diana ordered Jack. Normally, Diana wouldn't show sympathy, but she didn't care. She had to get to Samuel.
She left the alley, blood on her leather. The men who use to blow kisses at her were now afraid. Good, Diana thought. She looked at the king's palace again, and whispered to herself, "Samuel, you should be proud. You will be the first man to be sacrificed to my master, Lord Level."

"Are you prepared for the first group, Captain?" asked Foldio, indicating that there were people standing outside a door, waiting to come in.
"Actually, Tribune, I was hoping that I could make a recommendation to the guard first?" asks Samuel. He opens the door to see the people standing out there and is surprised to first see a goblin standing close to the front of the line.
He really has some guts to come here.
"Who would that be?" asks Tribune Foldio.
"A good friend of mine, of whom I expect could hold his own very well. His name is Kerix... uh" Samuel realized he didn't know Kerix's last name.
"Well, I'm sure if he has your recommendation, then he must be very powerful. Is he here now?" says Foldio.
"I think so..." Samuel looks down the hall again for his friend and then walks to the window. "He should be here any second now."
OOC Notes
As some of the Tribunal's personal guard began moving people into something resembling more of a line, Kerix quickly realized he would not be able to just push his way to the front. Seeing a window that opened to a dark hallway that branched away from the main entrance, he began moving slowly and casually towards the outskirts of the crowd and on an arcing path toward the window. By the time he reached it, the crowd had begun to react towards the forced order, creating a short-lived but noisy pushing match that served as enough of a distraction. Kerix looked back out into the courtyard from inside the hallway, having speedily climbed through the window, and took a deep breath. "Well, there goes the easy part," he thought to himself.
Samuel turned from the window as Kerix approached the doors to the room and smiled very slightly, which was something he had done very rarely in recent days. "Hope I didn't keep you waiting," Kerix whispered to him as he stood behind his meaty right shoulder, facing the Tribunal along with the larger man. It took nearly all his concentration to not react visibly when he noticed who actually made up the Tribunal, and his only thought was to turn his gaze to the floor to avoid meeting the eyes of the one person he had never expected to see in this room.
The silence hung in the air for several moments before Kerix realized it was him that should have been speaking. His mind raced with the new information that had presented itself and he began imagining just how bad things could turn in an instant.
"I am Kerix, Tribunes. And I hope you will find me worthy of serving alongside Samuel Dimas," he finally managed with a quiet voice.
"This is a joke," Tribune Drixin exploded. "I know this young man and he is nothing more than a beggar and thief! Is this the kind of character we want representing the Tribunal? I pity our poor and homeless as much as the rest of my fellow Tribunes but what do you honestly think this....cur can add to your prestigious guard?"
Kerix stood motionless, his gaze fixed on the floor, and sweat drops the size of marbles running tracks down his back beneath his shirt as he became paralyzed with indecision. He longingly eyed a corner of the room that happened to be very dark due to a torch that had gone out, and immediately considered several courses of action. Silently he inhaled as deeply as he could and held his breath, hoping that things had not yet reached their worst.

"I am a helping person and that is what I love doing," Paige would always say.
"Yes you are and it is greatly appreciated, yet you should be helping yourself more and doing more for just you," her mother would reply.
Being as they lived so close to the city of Raygin, Paige's mother assumed she would become involved more with the city and make friends there. However, Paige had no friends outside of the inhabitants of the forest. Paige assured her mother that the only friends she needed were her pet tiger Saber and the other animals of the forest, but her mother felt she needed more outside influences. She had named her Paige, a human name, instead of a more traditional Elven name such as Arimar, to ensure that she would fit in more. So far, however, it seemed to no avail.
On this clear sunny morning, Paige went into the city after breakfast to pick up some fresh milk and butter. There seemed to be quite a bit of excitement going on today, much more than was normal for this time of morning. Deciding to investigate, she ventured deeper into the city, where she normally did not roam. She noticed several flyers, all announcing that a guard was to be formed for the city. Paige thought this was a great idea and exactly what the city needed at this moment. She then noticed that there was quite a sizable group of people milling around the castle, no doubt seeking admittance to the new guard.
Paige realized she was holding perishable dairy items in her hands and quickly returned home. The whole way back and for the rest of the day, she found herself thinking of how wonderful it would be to become a part of the guard and to help bring peace and justice to the city of Raygin. She knew she was not the strongest of people, but she had received several fighting and self-defense lessons from her father throughout the years. She was also very determined to train and work hard to become better at physical combat. Paige knew in her heart that she would love to join the guard, but another part of her thought that maybe she should just stay here with her family. She decided to put the subject out of her mind for the time being.
That night at dinner, her mother brought up the subject. She had gone into town that afternoon to get some more sewing supplies while Paige had been out wandering the forest with Saber.
"So, Paige, while you were in town this morning did you hear about the king's guard?"
"Yeah, I noticed the flyers and the people waiting," Paige replied.
"Well, what do you think of it? Is it something you might be interested in?"
"Kind of. It would be a magnificent opportunity."
"Of course it would," her mother answered, "I think you would be wise to join."
"Well, I was thinking of it. I think I might give it a try."
"Wonderful. You will be pleased with your decision. I know you will do great," her mother assured her.
After dinner, Paige wished farewell to her family and headed to the castle in Raygin. She had decided that Saber would stay behind with her family to protect them. She knew she would miss them all terribly, but she did realize that she could not pass this opportunity up. Clutching her vine amulet, she approached the castle and joined the now huge crowd and waited for the beginning of her new life.

Samuel was still looking for words when someone who had been silent nearly the entire time, Tribune Farwyn, the only female in the Tribunal and and elf, spoke, "Maybe you should keep your opinion to yourself for once, Drixin."
Everyone in the room looked shocked for a moment, surprised that someone would speak like to the most outspoken Tribune like that. Drixin stuttered for a moment, but Tribune Foldio interrupted him, trying to avoid anymore hostile conversation.
"What we mean is, whoever Captain Dimas would recommend must be of the highest quality of a warrior. I'm sure that his reputation according to Captain Dimas is enough to convince anyone of his abilities."
Tribune Farwyn speaks again, "Perhaps the Tribunal should take a vote, in case anyone should disagree?" She looks over at Drixin and he just nods.
"Very well! All in favor?" says Tribune Foldio.
10 voices say "Aye", making the large hall ring with the sound. Tribune Foldio quickly starts applauding, causing a smattering that awkwardly fades away.
Samuel gives Kerix a congratulatory slap on the back, and manages to flash a small smile at him.
"Welcome to the Raygin Guard, Ferix", Samuel congratulates his friend.
OOC Notes
"I will not let you down friend," he said quietly. "But I do have an errand to attend to. I will meet you back here at the end of the day, if that is all right."
Receiving no response, Kerix understood he had permission to leave and stepped out of the room. In truth the errand was just a burning need to not be here at this moment any more. What he needed was some perspective on what had jut happened and what changes that would bring. Taking in a short breath, he turned into the same branching hallway he had entered from, stepped into the darkness, and was gone.
OOC Notes
He would need all his skills to get the attention of such a woman. One Shindo's techniques was: Never, ever, walk in the direction of a woman you see on the street. Another one, when she passes you, drop something, pick it up, tap her on her shoulder and ask her this: "Sorry, m'lady, did you drop this?" So this is how he did it, hoping he wouldn't trip or sneeze in the proces.
But something went wrong, when she looked in his direction after tapping her shoulder she looked at him like he was some kind of idiot. "What did I do wrong? I know I still look a bit trashed after that fight, but not enough for that look." And finally, finally he remembered that he forgot to close his mouth after seeing her. "Darn, that something like this has to happen to me," he thought, while trying not to let his face turn tomato-red by thinking stuff like "Well at least her leather suit matches my leather jacket." or "I'll use my wood elven accent, maybe it'll change the odds"
OOC Notes
Now, it is important to understand that goblins are often the cowardly, sneaky types who prefer to avoid conflict and hide their emotions behind false smiles. So when Zag was overcome with anger and stormed up to the Tribune, it was really quite an unexpected and unusual occurence.
"Oi! Gitface! Yeah, you! What you doing calling him a thief? Him! He ain't a thief! He's a disgrace! He's not even a goblin!" Even as he was raging he found a way to prove his point. "Now, take me for instance, I'm a thief. Just look at what I got from this lot!" He dumped several coins, bracelets, and other valuables onto the table. He then turned to see the outraged faces of his fellow City Watch applicants. "That bloke might well be a beggar, but a proper thief he ain't!" Now he turned back to the Tribune "By the way, I believe this is yours." he handed the man a pouch, the contents of which he did not know. He wasn't exactly sure how he had got it, either. Stealing was sometimes a bit of a passive action for him. The Tribune was, quite rightly, horrified that a goblin had touched his property, but one or two of the other Tribunes looked impressed, seemingly remmbering that he had come here to apply for the City Watch. Zag stopped ranting now, panting from lack of breath, and suddenly feeling a little awkward about his outburst. That, and the mob of rather annoyed applicants now glaring at him and their belongings...
OOC Notes
Samuel began to laugh. This shocked quite a few people in the room, but then he said, "This is exactly what we need! This sort of enthusiasm is exactly what we need on the Guard!"
He looked down at the astonished goblin and then at the even more astonished Tribune. "Don't you see? He actually cares about this city. By stealing from you, he showed how vulnerable you would be to thieves and muggers. He also is concerned that we might not pick the correct people to join the city, and so, he has to state his opinion. I never thought a goblin could be so honest, but here one is!"
It was obvious that Samuel had completely misinterpreted the goblin's actions, but most of the people in the room were convinced.
Tribune Foldio, who still looked slightly confused, said, "Well, Samuel, I suppose that you have another Guard member."
"I suppose so." Samuel offered his hand to the goblin, smiling very wide.

He had done it. He had actually done it! He had got himself into the City Watch, away from the slums. Oh crap, he had got himself into the Watch! Him, a goblin, in the Watch- Zag could already tell his popularity with his own race had just plummetted to rock bottom, and they were usually the only people who were prepared to acknowledge him...
With a start he realised that he had been stood there unmoving for quite some time, and the captain's hand was still extended to him.
"Err...yes, an honest Goblin..." he replied a little uncertainly, then with more confidence "Yeah, I'm really concerned for this city- what's it called? Oh, yeah, Raygin- and for you lot! Its far too easy to mug you! You need to get more smart about your valuables, you know, make it a bit of a challenge for me- I mean, for thieves..." his words were a mixture between lies and bragging, coupled with a lot of relief that the City Watch could no longer arrest him, what with him being a member and all. He wiped is hand on his ragged shorts, attempting to remove some of the filth, before shaking the captain's, Samuel he had been called, proffered hand. He also grinned back, revealing his needle like teeth, and though the smile was genuine, it still seemed malicious, as did that of all Goblins. He even refrained from stealing anything from the man as he did so, though it took a conscious effort.
"Nice to meet you, Sir, and you, err, fellow Watchperson..." He said to each of the two men in turn, before moving to stand with them so that the choosing process could continue.
OOC Notes
Kerix remained perched on the ledge of the warehouse building high above the markets below, watching the people pass by in ignorance. It was so rare that any would ever look up and possibly see him, though the afternoon shadows made it nigh impossible. It was one of his favorite spots in the city to retreat from the world and reflect. And the events of the day had provided a surprising turn.
"I have to go forward," he finally concluded to himself. "There simply isn't another option, and I have to believe that if there were it would have presented itself."
Kerix looked to the sky and watched puffy gray clouds roll lazily across the sky as if wading their own pool and looking down on the world below. "Besides, what's done is done," he continued. "There is no way to change things now." As he began slinking towards the edge of the corner of the building, he noticed two individuals walking in the market that caught his eye. Kerix quietly jumped down to the street behind a large wobbling stack of crates and inhaled, marking a dark side alley they were about to pass. He felt his skin begin to burn slightly, realizing he had exerted himself quite a bit today. As the pair moved beyond the alley, he noiselessly slipped into the shadow of a beam that ran overhead, following it to the sliver of shade provided by the overhang across the street which ran into the alley. Exhaling forcefully, Kerix stepped out behind the small goblin and his much larger companion.
"You were looking for me?" The pair turned with a start, their faces quickly turning to anger.
"Yeah! Dad wants you," the goblin snarled. "And don't do that!!"
"Breg I wouldn't feel the need to surprise you if you didn't feel the need to bring protection," Kerix replied, nodding towards the humanoid with clenched fists standing as if ready for a fight. "We are working together aren't we?"
"Dad's got somthin for you," the goblin answered determinedly. Kerix looked around casually, noting one of the local militia men browsing some exotic fruit and completely ignorant of the clandestine meeting.
"What is it?"
"He says good job," the goblin made a face as though a wave of nausea passed over him in the passing of gratitude. "But you got to hit a mark. He said you would know where."
"Ok," Kerix answered with some relief. "Tell him I will look into it..."
"No," Breg snapped, briefly forgetting to keep his voice low. "He says you got to go tonight, and he wants it done your way. He said you know what that meant."
Kerix knew what it meant all too well. Instantly he was second guessing himself, wondering if he had some time earlier in the day uttered those magic words, "It can't get worse."
"And what if I don't," Kerix quietly responded as he lowered himself to the goblin's eye level. Normally he would have just gone along with things, but Bregg had been goading him for quite some time, trying to catch him in one trap or another. Kerix knew it was time to show just how far he could go. "What then?"
Brag raised his hand to snap his fingers, but Kerix was already moving back into the alley as the large brute stomped after him. Taking a deep breath he dove forward, feeling the darkness embrace him and watching as the man stumbled past. Pulling his blade, he stepped out of the darkness and stabbed the man once in each side as he quickly exhaled and inhaled again. By the time the man had turned, Kerix was again appearing behind him. Quickly, he thrusted behind each of the hulk's thick knees, breathing out with the first strike and in with the last, and moved through the shadows as the man fell forward, bleeding profusely. Bregg, who stood watching the scene unfold in mere seconds, jumped back with a yelp as Kerix appeared in the darkness right in front of him.
Grabbing a fistful of his shirt, Kerix lifted the goblin to his eye level. "I don't startle easily Breg. And if you ever think about sicking your dogs on me again, just remember that I can get to you whenever I want."
Kerix tossed the goblin over his shoulder, not looking back to see him land with a squishy thud on the body his quickly perishing associate. Things had in fact gotten worse without his wishing so. The night would be long and difficult if he was to maintain appearances. Kerix noted that he felt more like a mouse running in a maze than a hunter in the forest as he walked leisurely back towards the courtyard where Samuel would be, hoping he could get just a moment's rest before the real work began.

Lia fingered the ornate silver choker around her neck as she wandered aimlessly through the streets. She didn't bother to try begging. She'd tried it a few times when she first moved to the city, but with no success. Maybe it was her slightly aggressive air as she approached well to do passers by. She would stand in their path with her hands on her hips, her limed hair piled in a wild tangle on top of her head. When they tried to go around her, she'd step in front of them again and in her small, piping voice she issued her demand. "I'm hungry. I need food. Or money." No one ever obliged.
She became aware of the distant murmur of many voices down another street and followed her ears, hoping that whatever she found, it might include food. The bigger people failed to notice her, as usual. She frowned at them for a moment and then made her way to the front of the crowd. Her slight form let her slip through the crowd easily enough in most places. Where that wasn't sufficient, she stomped on toes and occasionally muttered a feeble charm to cause itching. The charm didn't always work, but when it did it made her giggle. Her victim fell over once in his sudden desire to reach both his feet and scratch them at the same time. She stepped blithely over him and slid past a couple more big people. She wasn't so much shorter than them, but she found most of them never looked down to notice the smaller folk unless something made them. She wondered how dwarves dealt with it; she knew her own people, pixies, cared little enough for big people that they considered it an advantage. When she finally made it to the front of the crowd she decided it must be some sort of contest. She didn't seem to be the only one jockeying for position at the front. This made the prize immediately more desirable. If all these other people wanted it, she wanted it too. She planted her hands on her hips and stared at the men who seemed to be holding the crowd at bay, trying to decide how to get past them. An idea came to her finally and with a mischievous smile she pulled a slender willow wand from the wide, well worn belt cocked on her hips. She closed her eyes and muttered to herself for a couple minutes and when she was sure she was attuned to the nearby steel weaponry she opened her eyes with a wide smile to watch their reaction as she called the steel to her. The smile crumpled immediately as she realized she hadn't thought this plan through well. She dropped to the ground and flattened herself there as a dozen swords and knives came tumbling through the air.

Suddenly, thinking about the long day ahead of him, he realized how tired he truly was. Thinking now, it had been about 24 hours since he had gotten any sleep. Being inside of the Tribunal Hall was making him tired and he would need to get some fresh air later to keep himself awake. For now, though, he would have to get through a good portion of the applicants.
"We can bring in the next group of applicants now." Samuel told one of the body guards and he began picking out people to come inside. Suddenly a loud clattering of steel came from somewhere near the front of the crowd. What looked like a small girl was surrounded by what had previously been the weapons of the personal guards. The guards stood shocked at what had just happened, but then ran down and grabbed the girl.
"Wait, don't hurt her! Bring her here." Samuel shouted down the steps. The guards brought her over to Samuel and as she got closer, he could tell that she wasn't a young girl, but actually a pixie.
"What just happened here?" he asked the pixie.

"Wait, don't hurt her! Bring her here."
Lia looked at them imperiously, recognizing the authority in the distant man's voice. "Yes. Bring me to him." The guards didn't look any happier with her but they obeyed. They deposited her unceremoniously on her feet in front of a man wearing old but very interesting armor. Something in it whispered to the pixie of her yew rod. She fingered the yew in her belt without thinking as she regarded the expanse of metal in front of her. The man's voice called her attention up to his face finally.
"What just happened here?" he asked the pixie.
Lia smiled brightly at him, remembering why she'd come here. "Did I win?" she asked eagerly. "I was so hoping I'd win. Er... what was the prize anyway? If it's eggs, I don't want them."

He continued greeting people at the door, as was his duty being a senior protector. The greeting job helped to humble the protector, teach him social skills, as well as prepare him for problems his priestess might face. He watched as the priest made his way over to him. "Ah Ogava, I see everything is in order as usual. It is a very sad, and happy day today my boy. You must depart, and prove your self to Heronious. I assume you have prepared yourself?" The priest looked at him. "Yes father, I have been ready to go at a moments notice since I became a senior." Ogava replied, a little pride in his voice. "Good! then you may set forth. You are indeed lucky you may not have to go far to complete your task. I hear they are hiring a new town guard, this position could be just what you need." Ogava's heart lightened this means he could keep his friends, and promises. "Thank you father, I will return when I receive the call." Ogava bowed, and made his way to his room. His travel gear was packed, and ready to go. He took a quick look at his protector armour, he could not wear it yet. Here it would wait until he was called by Heronious. With only his temple clothes to wear, he shouldered his pack, and left. Standing amongst the large crowd he waited. He was to be in the next group when a pixie made a disturbance. He waited patiently, although he was excited to apply. He knew his turn would come, and he would stand head, and shoulders above the rest!
OOC Notes
Samuel was a very simple man, not understanding magic very well, but he understood that sometimes it could be invaluable. Pixies sometimes have very useful magic and if he could get one as an ally, it might be easier to track down criminals.
"Are you here to apply to be in the City Guard, young pixie? The job pays very well." He knew that most pixies don't really care for wealth, but judging by her odd combination of a nice shirt and a ragged skirt, he had a feeling that she would not be opposed to earning a few coins.
OOC Notes
"Hi Shindo. Good to see you."
"Oh hi there Paige. Long time no see. How have you been?"
"I have been doing well," she replied, "and I am very interested in joining the guard."
"As am I. I have a feeling it will be-"
At that moment, a medium sized hairy animal brushed past Shindo's legs.
"What the-" Shindo cried.
"Oh I am so sorry," Paige interjected. "That would be my companion. His name is Saber. Sorry if he bothered you."
It turns out that Paige's family had tried their best to make Saber happy while Paige was away, but he had missed her too much. He had never been more than a few hours without her, and he felt pretty lost without her. He knew she often went to town, but this time she had been there longer than usual. He had set out into the city to find her, and by the time the family realized he was gone, Saber had already made it to the huge crowd of people outside the castle.
A number of people were frightened by the appearance of the unexpected guest. Paige hoped that the interruption caused by her companion would not hinder the selection process for the guard and that everything could still run smoothly, even with a tiger in their midst.

Re: [OOC] Guards
Re: [OOC] Guards
Im not going with mithril on the Sentinel. I decided that at some point in the not too distant future, Kerix, a.k.a. Lathan Dayle, will die and that he will ultimately be chosen as the source material allowing the Sentinel to occupy his body. This will keep me from having two characters in the RP as well as solve other problems.
@ Martland: because of this change I am going to have to work with you to arrange the death of Kerix (lathan), but in exchange will tell you that because of the nature of the awakening process (and the history of Oqrin as submitted to "Heroes of Raygin") I will be working with you IC to make sure that whatever task you gave it upon its awakening will be completed.
Thanks
Re: [OOC] Guards
Re: [OOC] Guards
I am going to post in guards tonight and it will be a sort of last moments of the fight/recovery post that will end with me kind of falling victim to the suggestion. I imagine at a not-harried pace it will take me a little while to get to wherever I need to get to in order to meet up with Raegus, but I suppose I will ultimately need to know where I am going.
I imagine that while I am meeting with Raegus, perhaps Dimas and his crew can go check out the shipment I told him about (which allows me to be conveniently absent). But it could really work out any number of different ways. I just think that Kerix will be out of the loop for a bit with the whole being summoned to Raegus bit.
EDIT: Ok I kindof missed posting last night but I will be posting soon.
Final Edit: OK, I posted. On my way to see Raegus. I threw in that last line just to indicate the fact that it is now known that the serial killer from before is back. Blind Man isn't the best name in the world, but I figured that his trademark of taking eyeballs would cause people to become superstitious and assume the killer needed them for himself, hence Blind Man. The whole "serial killer on the loose" doesnt have to be anything the group deals with at all really, I just thought that four people assassinated in one night in that manner shouldn't go completely unnoticed. I will be offline for a couple days but will catch up as soon as I can.

Well, just did a post their commetning on the wraith attacks and sending my lot in to receive the shipment.
Named the captain of the cargo ship Cpatain Barlabus, jsut because I thought a name should be thrown in there.
Re: [OOC] Guards
However, since this is a separate RP, I suppose we could do whatever with the sentinel and just say that "Heroes" is a different version of how things turned out.
Re: [OOC] Guards
And PJ, can I add Silas to the character list and play him? I just want to use him more, and think he's an interesting character.
PS. The Sentinel sounds like a very moral being, if Raegus were to use him then he'd need to find a way to twist him. I've an idea, but i'd rather not shout it ;p better as a suprise.
Please get back soon :)
Re: [OOC] Guards
By the time it crosses over from this RP to the "Heroes of Raygin" RP, a few things will be true:
1) It will have been awakened by whoever does the ritual and given its task (see below)
2) It will have completed its task (so whoever is going to take charge of doing this ritual, please no "destroy the city" or other type things that would cause the sentinel to default fail, or tasks that would be so hugely bad that #3 is not realistically possible
3) Having completed its task, it has chosen to remain in physical form and has been approached by the Tribune about seeing to the health and safety of the group in "Heroes of Raygin" (this wouldnt occur if it were considered an evil monstrosity that simply must be destroyed).
I know that I am asking for a bit, introducing a cross-over character, but since I said he does complete his task that does make it fair. I am assuming that Lord Raegus is going to be the one doing the ritual (perhaps you manage to secure the stone before the Guard can get to it, leaving them only to find an empty crate and workers who knew what the item looked like but not what it was). This means that Lord Raegus would be basically guaranteed success of one act of evil (see #2 and #3 above please). Also, once the task has been completed I am going to remove him from the RP so that he will no longer be a factor in it.
Thanks
EDIT:
Two other notes about sentinels:
1) they are genderless
2) A sentinel stone varies in shape and color (but not size as all are about the size of a golf ball), and it can only be perceived as different from a regular gem by magic detection
PS - Martland you can see this link for the character that the Sentinel will become basically.
Re: [OOC] Guards
PJ you might want to give this a skim as I made slight adjustments which will affect some of the basic aspects of the Sentinel. I haven't decided what the source material for this Sentinel will be yet, but I will post it here when I decide (since the Sentinel who is the NPC in this RP is my character in the sequel RP).
Thanks
Though considered to be as mythical and even possibly imaginary as dragons are, Sentinels are as old as the energy that makes up the fabric of time, matter and space, being created shortly afterwards. What ever their original purpose was has been lost through time, yet they still exist as a force of good and also to maintain balance in the universe by being, on rare occasions, awakened to aid the created beings.
A Sentinel is quite literally made up of the energy of the universe from which they came, as all Sentinels which are not on the earth in some form exist in an amalgamated being of spirit and energy that shares one universal mind. This being is the very energy that is commonly referred to as "magic" and the force by which all things magical can take place. Each Sentinel is gathered to the earth for 100 years to fulfill a potential term of service, and this occurs on a rotating basis so that all Sentinels are either awaiting summoning to the earth, awaiting the beginning of the term of their service on the earth, serving their given task, or recently returned to the state of the amalgamated being they refer to as "Oni", which is an ancient word meaning "one mind".
When it is the turn of any given Sentinel comes up, they are sent to the earth in the form of a rare gem identified by the created beings as a "Sentinel stone". They sleep in this state for 100 years awaiting summoning and, if not summoned, return to Oni when the stone returns to Oni in the form of primal energy.
The process involved in summoning a Sentinel includes a lengthy and ritual in which the sentinel stone and a source material are placed in the center of intricate glyphs, symbols, and other specific drawings of magic. The source material, whether it is stone, wood, ice, a human body, etc., is what the sentinel will use to create the body it will occupy during its term of service. The body will appear to be the same type of humanoid as that of the summoner who finishes the incantation by adding a cup of their own blood. The final step of the process is the issuing of a command.
When the command is given and the Sentinel is awakened, they are under the burden of completing the given task. However, summoning a Sentinel means summoning an independent being which is free to complete the task as they see fit and according to their own interpretation. Failure to complete the command results in the body immediately deteriorating, and the Sentinel stone, which rests in their forehead between the eyes, returning to Oni as primal energies releasing the Sentinel to its former state. A Sentinel will always have the option to refuse a task that it considers to be evil. In such a case, a Sentinel will return to Oni for a very short period of time before being sent back to the earth to sleep for another 100 years.
If a sentinel is given any task they consider worthy, it will relentlessly pursue completion of a suitable task and treat it as priority over all else. When the task has been completed, the Sentinel is released from service and allowed to return to Oni. Return to Oni, whether through success or failure, is accomplished by instant disintegration of the body and the Sentinel stone returning to primal energy. Being independent creatures, a Sentinel may also choose, upon completion of the task, to remain in physical form for as long as they like, although they are still bound to act in such a way as to maintain the universal balance. A Sentinel who chooses to remain in physical form could be forcefully summoned back to Oni, but this occurs only in such cases where it acts in such a way as to upset the balance. Being creatures of magic, they are ageless and could remain in physical form until the end of time or until there is no physical world left.
A Sentinel can often exist for thousands of years between terms in Oni sharing one mind with all other Sentinels not in physical form. Because of this, when they are awakened a Sentinel is aware of only its identity and the strong sense of loss from being separate from Oni. Any other knowledge or memories are wiped in the process.
Racial abilities:
* A Sentinel will take on the properties of its source material in creating its body making them similar to a golem. In addition, if the source material is the corpse of a living thing, the Sentinel will take on all of its innate abilities (for example: water breathing if the creature was amphibious, night vision if it was an elf or animal with similar vision). It can not assume affinities (such as the enhanced elven skill with bows) but only that which is intrinsically part of the source material.
* Being magic, a Sentinel is the most attuned creature to the use of magic. However, each Sentinel must explore and understand its usage from the moment of its awakening as though it knew nothing of magic. Although each Sentinel has great power from "birth", the only knowledge or abilities possessed at the point of awakening will be those that directly relate to the task given for completion. It is through these abilities that a sentinel may then explore and develop a further understanding of the functional nature of magic. This usually does not occur as each Sentinel applies themselves diligently to the task so that they may return to Oni that much sooner. If a Sentinel chooses to remain beyond completion of their task, their knowledge of the function of magic would increase exponentially due to their complete affinity with the primal energy.
* All Sentinels from the moment of awakening possess the knowledge and ability to "heal" their physical form through the use of magic and implementation of additional source material. A new source material can be incorporated into the physical form if the Sentinel is injured (example: using sand to rebuild a severed limb), however the parts formed with the new material will be very temporary and eventually lose their bond and return to their natural state.
* While a Sentinel is as fragile as the source material used to form its body, they may only be killed in one way: destruction of the Sentinel stone. This means that if the source material was a human body, the Sentinel could literally bleed to death yet still remain alive through the power of the intact Sentinel stone. In such cases, the physical body loses its attributes as it normally would (i.e. a bloodless body begins to harden with rigor mortis) but any damage incurred can be "healed" through the use of the Sentinel's magic so long as the stone remains undamaged. Destruction of the Sentinel stone, which would kill the physical form, releases the Sentinel to Oni as though they had failed their task.
Quirks:
* A Sentinel will never use any type of physical defense or offense if engaged in a confrontation, and will always use magic to accomplish their goal or simply allow themselves to be assaulted.
* A Sentinel is incapable of lying, stealing, or harming innocents, and will not engage in any conflict that is not directly associated with their given task. Once a Sentinel has completed its task, it has a measure of additional freedom to choose which conflicts to engage in but will still abstain if they think their involvement is unnecessary.
* A Sentinel can not sleep unless the physical body is rendered unconscious (at which point the Sentinel would still be awake in the Sentinel stone as it conducted repairs to restore consciousness). While they have the ability to eat and drink, a Sentinel will not engage in such activities while under the burden of a task, replenishing their energy with magic or with the infusing of additional source material. After completing the task, a Sentinel may choose to partake of food or drink but would still regard such a thing as frivolous.
* A Sentinel has no personal motivation or ambition of any kind while under the burden of a task, with the only exception being the manner in which they choose to seek out understanding of the functionality of magic. Once released from the task, they would be free follow personal pursuits but still be bound to act in accordance with the universal balance.

Sorry about the delay. I will post info about sentinel's very shortly.
Thanks

Re: [OOC] Guards
In short, the item is called a "sentinel stone" and it is used to summon a creature that is basically pure magic. Its an ancient race of beings that spend most of their time existing as a corporate entity which is actually the energy of the universe and the power which is more commonly referred to as magic. Im going to make an edit or two to the material I put together, but then I am going to post it here just so everyone is familiar with what Sentinels are (seeing as how PJ has decided to include them into his world bestiary. I will likely play the part of the sentinel in this RP at some point, but I imagine it will be towards the end and its will really be as more of an NPC basis.
I will try to have that info up here by tomorrow at the latest.
Thanks.
