Introduction
As generations died and leadership changed hands, however, the guild has fallen into a state of disrepair. They no longer inhabit a castle atop a mountain peak, but a wooden guild house in the slums of the capital city of Umbryn. As the last leader, a wizened mage, succumbs to old age and the body that betrayed him, new leadership comes into the guild...and the new guild master has big dreams for the historic Guild of Nine Swords. Will the guild ever be restored to its former glory? Only its members can make sure of that.
But the guild has enemies too, including the Cult of Lemkey, a shadowy organization spread across Anissa dedicated to bringing about the old ways of dark magic and destroying the legacy of the Nine Swords. The guild is also opposed by the greedy lord Harelm of the king's court, looking to seize the guild and use them as a puppet to further his cause. So far the guild has been able to fight off these physical and political attacks, but it's an uneasy war that not everyone in the guild thinks they can win.
Rules
2. You are allowed to leave the guild or roleplay outside the guild if you so wish, but we'd like to keep most of the roleplay guild-centered in the beginning.
3. No powerplaying. Not to say you can't become powerful, but if you immediately start out as a godlike destroyer of worlds, you're going to get a swift kick to the ban.
4. You don't have to love every player, but there's a zero tolerance policy on flaming.
5. Every class picks a major, general, and minor proficiency. Of course, they can do other things, but they excel in their proficiencies.
6. While the proficiencies are there to help make combat simpler, this game involves NO DICE. Full RP fighting.
7. Proficiencies mostly affect combat against NPCs. Though, as I write this, I can't wait to see how they clash in player fights.
8. There are only four ranks in the guild; in descending order of authority they are Guildmaster, Guardian, Journeyman, and Recruit.
9. Put proficiencies in the EQUIPMENT section of your biography.
ARCHTYPES
---------------
They say there are three archtypes to combat; The Warrior, The Rogue, and The Mage. While you're not limited to a stereotype of each, you must pick one patron archtype and pick three proficiencies for your character.
WARRIORS: Warriors are directly involved in the combat, whether acting as a shield for their allies or a harbinger of death for their enemies. They pick a major skill, a general skill, and a minor skill to shape their character's combat identity.
BLADES (Proficiency with swords and the like, single or dual wielding.)
BLUNT (Proficiency with hammers and blunt objects. Polearms fall under this category.)
SHIELD (Proficiency with shields and shaking off damage with them.)
ARCHERY (Proficiency with the use of a bow and arrows.)
LEADERSHIP (The ability to inspire those around you and raise morale.)
INTIMIDATION (The ability to inspire fear in opponents that feel fear.)
FORCE (The ability to shatter enemy blocks.)
FIRST-AID (The ability to heal injuries with makeshift medical equipment and natural ingredients.)
FORTITUDE (The ability to stand your ground and resist stuns, fear, or attacks that would overwhelm others.)
ROGUES: Rogues are more creative with their combat tactics, relying on cunning and guile to get them through a fight, whether they're an assassin or a thief. They also pick major, general, and minor proficiencies.
DAGGER (Skill while using one or two daggers or short swords.)
POISONS (Skill used to make quality poisons to be applied to weapons.)
INFILTRATION (Skill used for picking locks and getting around barriers to reach your goal.)
SNEAK (Skill used to bypass an enemy's awareness, whether it's to spring a sneak attack or steal a trinket.)
PERSUASION (Skill to manipulate NPCs into doing what you wish.)
STUN (Skill used to impede enemy movements, attacks, or halt them completely for a post.)
TREASURE HUNTING (Characters with this skill have a knack of finding some neat goodies when they search for them.)
CRITICAL ATTACK (Can deal great damage to compromised or unaware enemies.)
DODGE (Skill used to improve evasion of attacks.)
MAGES: Mages are practitioners of magic. They can learn up to three of the schools of magic, choosing a major aptitude, a general aptitude, and a minor aptitude. Two or three schools of magic can be combined in a spell. Magics marked as (BLACK) are perceived as wicked or tainted, and the land has outlawed their practice. However, this may change over the course of the roleplay. (They can still be picked, of course, but be wary of the roleplay effects.)
FIRE (The art of conjuring flames.)
FROST (The art of conjuring solid ice or blizzards.)
EARTH (The art of manipulating the earth.)
STORM (The art of manipulating the winds, the rains, and yes, powerful mages can shoot lightning.)
LIGHT (The art of mending wounds and smiting "evil" creatures with light magic, as well as conjuring light.)
DARK (The art of summoning demons and raising the dead.) (BLACK)
SHIELD (The art of casting protective wards over yourself or allies to mitigate damage at the expense of your magic energy, and if persisting, health.)
CHAOS (The art of dominating the minds of men and beasts and driving them to the point of insanity, whether for torture or battle confusion. Can be deterred by strong minds.) (BLACK)
ENCHANTING (The art of imbuing objects with magic to serve an extraordinary purpose. Enchants must be done with game master approval, and effects must be taken from either of your other schools.)

He stabbed at the meat with an old and slightly bent fork, lifting a piece of pork into his mouth. The Guild hadn't gotten a contract request in a week, and it was contract money that funded the entire operation. It seems nobody trusted in the reputation of the guild anymore. Glancing around the near-empty dining hall, Ranos took a great sigh, returning the meat to its plate and leaning back in his chair.

He strode over through the hall to a small wooden box mounted to the wall, attached by an iron chute. He lifted the lid on the box and rummaged through several parcels enclosed; "Death threats...Church summons...Tax notice...Hm?" He finished, pulling out two envelopes with hastily scrawled addresses. "Hey, Yuhra, come over here!" the man called with a twinkle in his pale eyes, hoping to see contracts enclosed.

Dear Guild of Nine Swords,
I don't care what reputation you may carry, I have something that I need done by professionals, and you are what I can afford. I'm willing to pay good money, which I'm sure you've seen very little of recently, to rid Nalyn of a very serious ghost problem. Four children have disappeared in the past four weeks. One night, they will be tucked into bed by their mothers, and the next morning they will be gone without a trace. The royal guards with the king's emissary won't investigate because they think it a waste. We need your help. Find me in Nalyn for more information and your advance payment.
- Jarem Alden, Village Elder.
His eyes grew wide at the end; it was a wise move for Jarem to include "advance payment" in his closing words. Saving the second envelope for later, he placed it back in the mailbox and called out to Yuhra; "We're heading to Nalyn, pack a bag!" He called, writing up a piece of parchment to inform anyone where the two would be heading.
I'm taking guild members on a mission in Nalyn; any guild members are welcome to seek us out during the time our mission is in progress, or join us and tag along before we leave. For those of you that stay, be good, but if you burn the guild house down, I burn you down.
Cheers!
Ranos Tarran.

Ranos stood back up and nodded once more at Yuhra, and then at the dark spot in the crotch of the man's trousers; "Oh dear, it looks like this man has a thing for violence or he may have pissed himself. How charming."

"Ranos Tarran...That "guild" of yours is very far behind on your taxes. Three more weeks and we get to tear down your entire establishment."
"We're going out on the job now, guardsman, we'll be sure to have the payments on time. Let me and my friend out of the city, please."
"You know, Lord Harelm's offer still stands...The Guild of Nine Swords under the patronage of one of the wealthiest lords of the land. Think about it."
"I already said no, and my mind won't change. We're not a symbol or a mascot to be paraded around for Harelm's political ventures. Now let us out." Ranos said through gritted teeth.
The guard shrugged and let them out onto the stone ramp that lead down to the base of the hill Umbryn was built on. "Have a nice day." The guard said with a sly smirk. Ranos brushed past him and moved out the gate. (MOVING TO: ANISSA)
OOC Notes
Ranos observed the countryside, standing at the base of the ramp leading up into Umbryn. It was good to be on the other side of the walls, finally going out for some adventure. He waited there for Yuhra before continuing.

"This outfit was cheaper than the one i wanted, and the guy said he'd give me a deal if i showed him what it looks like on me..." Yuhra explained, adjusting her clothes. "I could use a bit of the money to get some regular clothes if you want. Oh, what am i talking about. I like this outfit anyway." She flashed a small grin at Ranos. "Ready to go? Because I sure am."

"Do you know the origins of the guild, Yuhra? Why the culture is so important?" He asked.

OOC Notes
"A long time ago, maybe two hundred years ago, the whole country fell under siege by an evil necromancer named Lemkey. Legends have it that either he was a mage of the king's court gone rogue, a spawn of the demons, or the gods' personification of death itself, come to usher Anissa into his dark domain. Personally, I believe he was just another powerhungry little man who lost his soul to the dark arts."
"Now Lemkey had marched his army up to Umbryn, and his forces were just about to take the walls. Before the battle, however, King Taito-Yun the Third had gathered nine of the strongest fighters in his domain and had them lead the defense of the city. After succeeding with very few casualties, which were briefly healed by one of the fighters, a mage, they lead a counterattack so fierce that it lead straight to the heart of Lemkey's camp and to the slaying of the dark wizard himself."
"The fighters were celebrated and given the highest honors. While I'm told that they didn't have the best of friendship, they were able to come together to always provide a shield and sword to aid the people of Anissa. They are known now as "The Nine Swords." My mother is...was...a descendant of one of those men, a hulk of a man named Aegis."
"But that is why I want to restore the guild to its former place; so we can fulfill the promise laid out by The Nine Swords. So the people of Anissa can feel no fear. That's why we're going to go save those children in Nalyn. The Guild is supposed to represent the heart and soul of Anissa, because without us it wouldn't be there. And we must be cultural and, albeit not too much, proper."
OOC Notes
Such a callous man. Such a pretty thing should not be worked so hard. Anil silently chastised the tavern owner as he continued his incantation. A soft white glow began to issue from the monk's palms, and as his humming grew in volume the cuts, scrapes and knots in the woman's hand slowly melded away and the steady breath of relief issuing from her lips indicated to Anil that she was indeed benefiting from his work. The glowing dissipated as the incantation was completed and Anil opened his eyes and met those of the woman.
Anil gave one of his wry smiles and asked, "Is that better?"
"Yes. Thank you and as always, here is your payment." The woman said as she came to her feet, reached into her purse and retrieved two silver coins, one for each hand.
In a smooth serpentine motion Anil brought his feet to the floor, still crossed and rose from the chair to stand before the woman. "You're welcome, miss. The Guild serves to help those such as you." he said as the young lady dropped the coins in his right hand. Anil would have gladly done this for free, but the Guild needed a reliable source of income and people needed a reliable source of medical care. Although it couldn't help offset the Guild's debts, at least it kept food in their bellies. Anil and the girl exited the pantry room and he escorted her to the the iron and oak entry door of the Guild headquarters. He waved her off and then turned back to find Ranos and give him the coin he just collected and was surprised that the stalwart guildmaster was nowhere to be seen. It was then that Anil noticed the parchment on the inside of the door. Looked like they had finally got some work! Ranos was heading out to Nalyn and Yuhra was probably in tow. Anil gave a slight frown at the thought of that. He obviously had a thing for Yuhra, that was for sure, but he wasn't worried that she could defend herself. Rather quite the opposite problem, that girl had a short fuse and although Anil trusted Ranos could keep tabs on the girl's violent outbursts, the ever vigilant guild master couldn't be paying attention to Yuhra and whatever horrors were out there at the same time. Who knew what kind of trouble she could start up if left to her own whim.
Anil quickly sauntered back into the pantry where his store of possessions were and retrieved his staff and travel pack then jogged out the door. Ranos and Yuhra were probably outside the city walls by now, Anil would need extra speed to catch up. Anil tested the wind with his finger and uttered a few short, harsh words and suddenly was floating a foot off the ground on a cushion of pressurized air. A few words later the wind howled and pushed the now light as air monk on his merry way to the city gates. At this rate, he should catch up with his two compatriots in no time.

Re: [OOC] Guild of Nine Swords
My charater (Who for now Ill call Bilva) is a essentially a fisher men that just happen to have a knack for magic. I imagina him using illusion and ball of light to make/force fish to jump into nets that he set up across the span of the river. Imagian little balls of light hovering over the surface of the water like lightning bugs, the fish would jump up the catch the "bug" and end up geting caught in a net. Or perhaps creating illusions of larger fish in the deeper sections of the lake so as drive the fish to both the surface and closer to the shore.
I want him to be more of and everyman that just happens to weild magic, not a enlightened monk like Anil, nor a scholarly sage like Sylar. Just a simple guy using magic to make his life easyer. Now for his being a person I would like him to be a more playful, almost jester like personality, full of good nature ribbing. Physically I would like him to be slightly plump seeing as his use of magic and fishing would keep him well feed. Simply imagian a place like india, a tree casting shade over a bend in the river, a well tanned man sleeping under the branches surrounded by mangos and fishing robs with bells on them. that is Bilva.
his Proficancies would be Chaos (for the illsuion, mental capabilities), Light (most for the optical aspects, not the holy part), and Enchanting (mostly to make fishing lures more enticing/effective). As for what order theyll be in I have no clue as im still working that out.
Now obviously this being a guild of fighter the man would need to enter battle from time to time. He would be more of a support role, using flashes of light and illusions to hinder his opponents. Perhaps doing some light healing, not a terribly offensive person usless He coudl abuse lights healing propeties can cuasing the opponents bones to continue growing and lead to the eventully calcification of soft tissue (but even I think that would be strenching it).
P.S. English isnt my first language so if there are any spelling mistake and/or grammatical mistakes that i make, I wont take any offense to you pointing them out. But being gentle about them would be highly appriciated.

On the off chance that you do have room for me can I ask what speciflty would allow illusion magic? Heat cuases air to have different refractive indexes due to so that can create illusions, but then on the other hand you do have the light school(?) of magic, granted it seems to be more concened with holy or anti-demonic properties rather that literal photons.
P.S. Im and engineer so I may over complicate things, please tell me if i do.

No character skeleton, just the default boxes that RP gateway gives you. And there are no specific spells, just freeform magic, whatever your brain can come up with using your schools of magic. Whether you want to use fire as a shield wall or as a hurtling ball of destruction is up to you.Everscale wrote:Is there a particular character skeleton we are meant to use? And are there spells within each area, or is there just... a general sense of magic?
EDIT: The only rule I have is that you should put proficiencies in "equipment."
