"Magic is my brother, my sister, my mother, my father, and my lover. What else do I need?"
Personality: Sylar is a very neutral man in most respects. He is generally calm, no matter the situation, be it a battle or a party or simply sitting at home studying. He likes the simple comforts of life - books and tea and a warm fire - and needs little else beside that and his magic. He has always been a bit of a recluse, not truly caring for the company of others, especially those who can not keep up with his intellect. He is a highly intelligent individual, and has little patience for anyone who does not understand his fascination with magic. He has always had a sense of disdain for most warriors, considering them beings of all brawn and no brain, where he is the precise opposite. If he should come up on one of these unintelligent being he maintains his calm and usually just walks away.
This is not to say, however, that he does not possess a severe temper. He is terribly prideful, and does not take insults likely. He is prone to fits of impotent irritation, which have ended badly for more than one person - generally in a meal for one of his summons. Charismatic and soft-spoken though he may be, Sylar can in no way be called sane. Perhaps it has something to do with his parents, his upbringing or his blood, but he has spent most of his life teetering on the edge of insanity, balancing his obsession with magic with a sensible existence. There is no telling when he might just topple off of that cliff and go completely mad.
Proficiencies:
Dark - the art of summon demons and raising the dead. (Black.)
Chaos - the art of dominating the minds of men and beasts and driving them to the point of insanity, whether for torture or battle confusion. Can be deterred by strong minds. (Black.)
Enchanting - the art of imbuing objects with magic to serve an extraordinary purpose. Enchants must be done with game master approval, and effects must be taken from either of your other schools. (Black.)
Equipment:
Book of Messages - a book of blank paper in which he can write messages. The paper is enchanted so that if he tears it out and sends it away with a spell, it will arrive before the person to whom the message is addressed. (Used mainly to keep contact with guild members, as he prefers not to actually live among them and keeps his own house in the city, generally referred to as his Study.)
Pets
Gethin - though that is essentially what he is, anyone who calls him a pet will quickly discover that he is, perhaps, the most disobedient dog in existence. He is a prideful and arrogant demon, more than a little sadistic and known for taking the lives of innocents when his master accidentally turns his back. In all the world there is only one humanoid the demon obeys, and that is Sylar DeVeaux. Sylar formed a contract of servitude with the creature of darkness, and the price was his soul. So long as the demon never, ever disobeys his commands, when Sylar dies he forsakes the afterlife or any possible form of rebirth. He is not even permitted resurrection. He gets one life, and one life only, and then Gethin will devour his eternal soul. This is absolutely the only reason that Gethin obeys Sylar, and even then he can be difficult to control. He has a high level of lust for humanoid women, and has taken his share of them. Worse even than that is his desire for blood. Sylar only summons him in times of tension if he is already certain any peaceful negotiations will fail.
ABILITIES - Gethin has two forms, a wolf-like demon and a near-human. Both have lethal claws and fangs and are capable of terrible spells of darkness. Though he is a minor demon, Gethin commands a small legion of shadowy creatures which can be summoned once - and only once each - to do his bidding. The stronger he is at any given time, the more shadows there are to command. He travels through the demonic realm, a plane separate from where his master exists, so he is capable of popping from one place to the next in barely an instant, and so long as he is riding Gethin, Sylar can do the same. Gethin's soulless eyes are entrancing, and he has been known to seduce humans for information. He is nearly impossible to resist. Occasionally, if given leave to do so by his master, he can devour the soul of a victim, but after he has done it he must sleep for a great deal of time, so Sylar would only permit it in dire circumstances. What is perhaps Gethin's most formidable ability - as though his razor-sharp claws were formidable enough - is the howling scream he can release, loud enough and high enough to stun anyone who hears it. Including, unfortunately, Sylar and the other members of the guild.

History: Sylar was the incestuous, illegitimate creation of an illegal union between a priest and his little sister. The impossible love between the priest Cesare and his sister Mienna cursed Sylar for life - he was never permitted to speak the name of his father, but the clergy knew it anyways, and he was hated for it. Beaten, blamed, treated as trash, Sylar grew apart from the rest of society. He became independent, in spite of a body weakened by the forbidden bond between sister and brother. He turned to the only source of power that frail body would permit him - magic. He studied in secret, practicing the black arts that so fascinated him, and when he was seventeen and his father decided he should enter the clergy himself, he disappeared. Cesare has not heard head nor tail of his son since, and that is precisely how Sylar prefers it. He journeyed to the capital city and set up shop there, working to become part of the Guild of Nine Swords. He keeps his own study, researching deeper into his magics, providing magical services to the people for money. He works only to benefit himself and his magic, never to harm or benefit anyone else, and will continue to do so no matter the circumstances. He will fight wherever it gives him benefit.
