Introduction

The island is beautiful. The clean, blue water reflect the clear sky, and its waves crash into the clean strip of white sand surrounding the island’s edges. Dark-green, tropical, trees cover the whole of the island. Docked on the shorelines are different ships belonging to a different crew and captain of pirates, all looking for treasure believed to be hidden in the deep waters. This is true—there is treasure. It is protected by the beautiful but manipulative mermaids.
However, the treasure is not hidden in the ocean. The pirates believe it to be, but actually, the mermaids have hidden it in their secret lagoon. The secret, mermaid lagoon is an enchanting place, stuck between two plant-covered hills. No pirate has ever found out about it, and this is what makes the treasure hard to find. However, the location can be found, it just hasn’t been yet.
The lagoon is covered with greens and browns; rocks covered in moss; plants and ferns in all shades of green; and the turquoise water reflects it. The place doesn’t look much, yet if you probably laid your eyes on it, it would be strangely and uncommonly enchanting.

It’s their treasure, and theirs only! The Merpeople’s main purpose in life is to protect their treasure, and that means enchanting and killing anyone who attempts to get it. Their beauty and attractivity is unusually enchanting, to the point that you’ll do anything they’d tell you. It could be as simple as carrying something heavy, or as deadly as jumping off a cliff into the mermaids’ lagoon. There you will drown, and as you start to lose air and turn unconscious, mermaids will swim around you elegantly as like a beautiful dream. Finally, as you close your eyes and realize you were deceived all along, the mermaids will finally open their mouths and tear your body apart. They’ll drink your blood and gnaw your flesh to maintain their beauty and thus continue keeping their treasure. The pirates are very aware of this, and this is why they let their victims walk the plank. It’s not true that the sharks will eat them. It is true, however, that the merpeople will.
At night, they sit on their rocks and sing songs. They have beautiful voices, and very much like a Siren, can lure you to destruction or just simply make you stop doing what you’re doing.
They can also get legs just by drying their tails, but only for a limited time. If they haven’t returned to the water in 12 hours, they will slowly turn unattractive and die. This is the best way in killing a mermaid; to lure him/her out the water and keep her dry for 12 hours.
However, if you are part of the merpeople, life will continue on just like human beings do: foes, friends, family, love interests and such. The difference is that you’ll get an ugly side when anyone not of your species tries to take the treasure.
Pirates don’t necessarily have eye-patches and funny accents. They could be normal people who ran away to be daring adventurers, rebellious and ready to take risks. They aren’t necessarily stupid either. If anything, they know oceanography by heart and know how to use their choice of weapon very well. They also know how to swim well, and know how to read the wind’s velocity and direction. East, south, and west, they know it all. From the bahamas to the legendary Bermuda Triangle, they know how to get there. Call pirates underestimated geniuses, if you must. Survival is also something they know, since their home is a ship. Surely they know how to brave great storms. Usually though, pirates would hire a chef on the ship. Take note that these chefs are required to have great experience and culinary knowledge, for you they be able to make anything delicious out of simple shellfish you found on the ocean floor, or a great kraken.
Vulgar, free, law-breaking, and danger-loving, pirates are rough to be with, which is probably why men are most likely to be one. To prove yourself worthy a pirate, you must show bravery, skill, and guts. You will also be respected if you do good in gambling games. ;D
The Pirates are also…bloodthirsty. Not literally, but they are fond of having wars. Wars mean earning something, and pirates love the sound of that. This is their similarity with the mermaids; they are both possessive and selfish with hidden intentions.
As brave as they look, pirates are afraid of mermaids. They know what the mermaids are capable of doing. However, that doesn’t mean they avoid the mermaids all together. Their love of treasure and gold is better than their fear of mermaids.
As you probably know, the mermaids’ main purpose of living is treasure. The pirates are looking for treasure while avoiding interferance with the mermaids. A new pirate joins the scene, and he is often teased as a softie and a newbie. To win the pirates’ respect, he decides to catch a mermaid. He nearly dies, but somehow he does catch one. He blackmails her into helping her catch the treasure. The mermaid then lies that she will, but actually has an intention to lure the pirate and his shipmates into death. The whole thing goes on as she asks for help from her friends, and her friends trick them into believing they really are on the trail of real treasure. However, as the whole thing goes on, she and the new pirate develop a relationship, and she is forced to choose between her species and the pirate.
Subplots are good for the minor characters.
Ending: Character Driven. Either the mermaids will win or the pirates will win.

I would love it if you got back to me soon, I have a bunch of photos I can use for whatever character I decide on.
Thanks!

Rougeshadow wrote:I am digging the idea for being a mermaid in this roleplay. Its well thought out and seemed to be able to move quite well. Can i please can Mermaid friend number 3 on reserve and you will have a profile tonight by around 6 EST? lol i got work today
*Puts you on the reserves list* :) :D
Reianna wrote:Would it be to unrealistic for there to be a female shipmate/pirate?
No. :) However, the females who get to be a pirate have to be tough. The life of a pirate is tough, so. I don't think the pirates would excuse a girl just because she's pretty.
Azuma Ito wrote:Can I be a mermaid please?
Oh, and what is the character skeleton supposed to look like?
I edited the rules--everything about character creation (including the character skeleton) is there. :) :D
WindOnFire wrote:Can I reserve one of the mermaid best friends XD I'm working on Aysu, I'm re-writing her a bit because she was rather boring in the last one, but essentially the same. I'm glad we are giving this another shot!
Okay~! ^^ And I'm glad too. :D
