Tobias Halbertsma

"True Christians are called to repentance of all secret heresies and blasphemies so they may enter heaven and escape the fires of hell. Or in other words: If you don't confess to sins you didn't actually commit, I'll torture you til you do!"

Description

Tobias is also a tall man, but with long, shaggy dark gray hair framing a rectangular face with mostly flat feature and dead-looking eyes. Though a quiet man, his presence is commanding, and has often been known to arrest others into silence upon his entrance. He dresses simply, in the cowl of a monk, and sometimes in a plain black cassock. He speaks either too quietly or too loudly, and in an expressionless monotone that offers him an air of divine grace when he speaks.

Personality

The churchmen who know him have always been struck by his monotone voice and his dead stare. Tobias's dark gaze is reputed to be that of a divine Judge peering into the depths of the soul. Tobias often spends days without human contact or speaking, and while at prayers and devotion, is seen rocking side to side or back and forth, in the manner of the Jews at prayer. Those who have the privilege of meeting him find him to be endowed with a certain unearthly aura.

History

Born to serf farmers bound to the land of Lord Owen Chaldris, Tobias was recognized early in life for his intellectual acuity, and was sponsored by Lord Chaldris to attend seminary, leaving the institution as a highly respected holy man renowned for his ability to understand God both in an intellectual and personal manner. However, instead of entering service as a parish priest or accepting the lucrative offer of appointment to a Bishop's office, Tobias joined a monastery of the Dominican order, eventually becoming the Prior. It was a few years ago that he was personally appointed by Pope Marcellinus II to the position of Grand Inquisitor of the Catholic Church.
