Adana stood up, her head cocking as the shells ricocheted off of a nearby warehouse. "I can leave now, while ya'll plan. I shouldn't be long. It's not that far and I have a travel form. I'd rather go alone if that matters at all." She held one paw off of the ground, staring at the rest of the group, a kind of charge running through her veins. She wanted to run, and run, and run, and to find the supers and to bring them back. They would be helpful, she was sure of it.

Daniel nods to Rylie, "I did offer to take someone." He says lightly, mentally drawing his powers and picturing the best route to reach the docks.

"If you want to try to make your own way there," He replies to Adana, "I am not about to stop you although there will likely be a lot of military personnel in your way."

The general outline of a route was forming in his head now, anything more specific being next to impossible at this time of day. That didn't bother Daniel at all though while he glanced at the other supers in the warehouse, "I would suggest taking a weapon but not much else," He says with another look at Rylie, "but I intend to avoid just about everyone between here and the docks. Let me know when you're ready." Behind the sunglasses his eyes become dark pits of shadow as he pulls the shadows of the warehouse into an area around him, large enough to fully contain himself and one other person.

Adana stuck her dog tongue out at Daniel. "Of course, because Military personnel would stop a doggy." She said, or thought, in a joking manner. "With that I will be off." She bounded down and out of the room, disappearing into the streets. This should be fun. Her pawpads pounded against the concrete as she tried desperately to dodge certain people in her way. Many were too distracted with poverty induced crime and war to notice a golden retriever to stop and wonder why it was running so fast, or why it’s eyes were blue, let alone that it seemed to know exactly where it was going. The neighborhood she was going to had been her home for a year after the old couple had died. The ones she would be asking for help knew her powers, and they weren’t afraid. They were supers too. The group had created a little protective shell of survivors to maintain a little bit of sanity. She had remembered. They would know her.

Adana stopped in an alley, panting slightly. Where was the door? The metal sheet, that was the entrance to the underground hideout. She lifted it up, and suddenly a sting in her backside reminded her that she was in trouble. She turned just in time to see the humans. She spasmed in pain and bared her teeth. Crap, crap, crap, crap. “A golden retriever? At this time? Do you think it’s her? Put her in the cage, I need to go find Zachary.” One of them spoke, holding Adana by her scruff. “Be careful, she bites, use the morphine. Hurry, she looks mad.” When she was awaked she was suspended in a rope cage aboce a grup of humans. Assorted weapons and handmade tools were placed carelessly around the room. She was irritable. She wanted to move. She needed to move. “Really? Really. You put me in a cage. Let me down now, I have to see Zach! I need to see him now! It’s urgent! “ Adana pleaded, tryind desperately to paw at the rope. This wouldn’t do. Most of them gave her blank stares and a few chuckled while others looked shocked at the voice in the back of their heads.

She growled, bearing her teeth. “Fine. You want me up in a cage I’ll give you a reason to keep me up here.” At those words she grew, her fur turning black. Many backed away in fear as her teeth sharpened and her growl loudened. With one slash at the ropes the giant panther landed on her paws, baring her teeth at the humans. She liked the fear. She really liked the fear that spilled from each and every one of them.

“Adana, please don’t eat my crew, I need most of them.” The voice got her to stop her fit. She turned her head to where it was coming from. “Zach!” The giant panther tackled the male. He got older, she noticed, looked like he was what? Twenty-five now? That must have been it. He laughed. “You’re heavy.” He noted and all Adana could do was purr. She finally got off. “ Can we go somewhere where your men aren’t pointing guns at me?” Zach waved them off. “You got to admit they have reason to be scared, let’s go to my office.” Adana scoffed. “They gave me morphine, you expect me not to be slightly irritable, considering that only put the dog to sleep? They probably killed half of my DNA! Do you know how stupid and reckless that was? And then they go and put me in a cage? A cage?! You know my fear of captivity and they put me in a cage suspended in air. Who’s more frightened here?”

Zach shrugged as he led the way. “What do you need anyway. I thought you went out to actually help people and find the people who made you like that and ask questions.” Once a safe distance away Adana shifted into her human form, swaying slightly and leaning on the wall. “I-I need your help protecting something that could kill everybody if deployed.” Zachary raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t that already going to happen with this war.” Adana shook her head. “I need to sit down. My head’s swimming.” After finding a seat in his couch she placed her head in her hands. “It will kill everyone, despite the war, it doesn’t care who you are or what you do, it won’t care if you have children, it is a bomb, a ticking bomb, and I and my friends are trying to destroy it. We need help, protecting, anything, we need superhumans, supers, whatever. You’re the first one I could think of.” Zachary took a seat behind his desk. “Why are you helping them Ady?”

Adana shook her head. “They’re my friends. One saved my life, three times now, not that I’m counting or anything and I have to repay them, you know me and my debts. She’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to a best friend, or a sister or whatever you want to call it and I owe her and all of them all my lives ten times over. You think I can just disappear?”Zachary shook his head. “No, I understand. I will go, and five of my closet men. We have the powers that can help, where is it?” Adana shook her head. “It’s that warehouse, by the, I can’t think anymore, I need to sleep, the morphine.” She shook her head, rubbing her eyes. “Down the street, keep going for a few blocks. It’s right there. I need to sleep..”

Zachary wrapped a handkerchief around Adana’s neck, one you would normally find on a dog, folded diagonally. It was her collar that she had left there last time she had appeared here. “Sleep, Adana. We’ll get there safely. Trust me. Just sleep.” Zachary, and four other supers arrived at the warehouse. Adana was sound asleep on Zachary’s back. “Adana, wake up, how do we get in?” Adana shook her head. “Go right in, shouldn’t be a problem.” She mumbled and they all looked at each other confused. “Where is the door?” Adana shook her head. “Just go right through the wall..” She said, sort of irritably. They entered, staring at the supers that remained in the warehouse. “We came here with Adana, here to protect? Is there a place that I can put her? She’s exhausted.” Zach said, gesturing to the sleeping Adana.

Rylie turned to John. “I will go with him and we will see what we can do.” She checked her pockets, ensuring her pain medication was there.

She watched Adana run out of the warehouse. "Be careful Adana." Rylie figured the girl knew what she was doing and where she was going but it didn't mean she could not wish for her safety. There was no telling what was going on outside these walls.

She nodded to his suggestion of the weapon. Everyone else was already busy on their own thing.

She stepped aside, looking at Daniel. “Ready.”

Rylie watched as seemed to go very still. Shadows became darker, hers and his. They then seemed to grow, mingling with those of the others and things in the room. It was a little disconcerting to see the darkness darken like that. It watch it gather around Daniel as if he was a part of it.

She watched with curiosity for his reaction. The sunglasses gave nothing away. Rylie noted that unless one was watching closely you might never notice the slow gather of darkness around the man. A useful power to be sure.

Nothing else changed, just the growth around him. Rylie stepped into them. One foot and then the other. She stood next to Daniel, a vague sense of nervousness as she wasn't entirely sure how his power worked.

Did she have to hang onto him? Could she be lost in the shadow if she didn't stay close? Would she even be able to see him? Her face remained calm as she tried to work the questions through.

Rylie wasn't even sure if he could still see her now. “What do I do now?” She waited for his instructions.

Daniel smiles at her and reaches up to take the sunglasses off. "For now," He says, looking her in the face and placing one arm around her shoulders, "Stay still and calm." Without waiting for her response, he slips into the shadows, lazily reaching out with his mind for the target shadow. To Rylie's perceptions though, it would seem practically instantaneous, one moment they were in the warehouse and the next they were in an alley just outside of it. Within a few seconds Daniel jumps again, this time landing them inside an abandoned building. The pattern would continue, teleport and pause for a couple seconds, teleport and pause.

After about a dozen such teleports, Daniels breathing would start coming harder and trickles of sweat would slide down his face. Finally, he would teleport them into an empty room, it looks like an office of some sort, where the only light comes through the windows. "One minute." He says, breathing heavily and leaning against the wall, having let go of Rylie. His eyes would appear normal again, since he let go of his power.

After resting long enough for his breathing to even out again, he would stand up again and repeat the process, a bit under two dozen teleports and a rest, he was clearly pushing himself now as each rest came longer. Finally, a little over half an hour after starting, he would nearly collapse against the wall. "Alright," he gasps out, "We... we're going to need to walk for a bit..."

Once he was breathing evenly again, he looks up at Rylie and replaces the sunglasses. "We are about half way there now, maybe a little less... Not sure how long it will be until I can teleport like that again, likely over an hour. We should be away from most of the fighting though." Sounds of combat would be audible, but distant enough that they were not a legitamite threat.

Rylie smiled back as Daniel removed his glasses. One arm went around her shoulders and she made herself still and steady. Calm and still was all he wanted her to be, simple. She could do that without thinking about it. Watching other supers it was what she did. Sat or stood still and waited. No need to be impatient, no deadline...just watch and wait.

In the blink of an eye they were no longer in the warehouse. “Well then...” was all Rylie could think as he moved them from place to place. As the “jumps” went on Rylie began to pick up slight changes in Daniel's breathing. It became clear that each shift in their positioning was taxing his abilities.

She felt the sweat drip slightly off of his face, onto her where their bodies stood close. “I wonder how much more it is draining him to have another with him. He said it would tax him but I wonder if he realized just how much.”

They appeared in an empty office, Daniel immediately stepping away to lean against the wall. Rylie stood where he had left her, watching him breath hard. She would not dare tell him that he was pushing himself too far. Rylie would let him say when he was done unless there seemed to be a risk to either of them. He seemed in control, just tired. She watched his eyes lose the blackness as he let his body and power relax.

Rylie didn't move, didn't say anything, simply let him have all the time he needed. She watched the deep breathes slow and become more even and normal. Walking over towards her, Rylie watched his eyes change again and nodded her readiness.

Again, blinks of an eye and the pair moved from place to place. Again, Rylie noticed the shift in his breathing and increase in body temperature.

“He isn't used to bringing another or at least not this far of a distance.”

She could tell that he was over exerting himself and was not surprised when he finally stopped. She had felt his legs giving way, the strain of his lungs trying to get in enough air.

“Alright. We...we're going to need to walk for a bit...”

Rylie nodded, remaining still and allowing Daniel to catch his breath. There was distant sounds of fighting but nothing close. Daniel replaced his glasses, Rylie noted the return of his normal breathing but the tiredness that showed on his face. “Understood.”

They pair stepped outside and began to walk. Rylie occasionally turned them down side streets, sticky to non traditional routes as they walked.

“The more we can stay out of the main road or roads the better for us and I thought you'd feel more comfortable with the shadows.”

Rylie stepped into an alley, the sun blocked by two tall buildings. She looked over her shoulder, smiling to him. It was a small smile but sincere. She knew how tired he was, how hard it had been to move both of them the distance he had already. Shadows were as much for cover as they were for his benefit.

“Interesting power you have. How did you figure out what you could do?” Rylie walked, keeping a smooth pace with Daniel as she talked.

Still tired, Daniel walks along side Rylie and gives a quiet chuckle when she comments about him being more comfortable. "To be honest, I really am more comfortable." he replies to her, taking a quick look around the immediate area as he does so.

The exhaustion from that sort of teleportation was really dragging on him now, he really had never teleported anyone else that far before. When Rylie asked her question, it caught his tired mind by surprise, "Oh well, I really didn't understand what I could do at first, the powers first showed when I was very young and all." He says slowly, returning the small smile, "Once I figured out what I was doing though, it was really just a matter of practice."

"What about you? How did you figure out your own abilities?" He asks her to give himself some more time to think, Rylie seemed rather open in demeanor but she was military, or at least ex-military, so he was going to be cautious with her.

Rylie watched Daniel's shoulders shake silently with his chuckle. “I had a feeling this would just suit you more. I notice these things. Sort of my job.” Her eyes return front, focusing on the next turn in their journey. She did her best to keep them in the shadows still.

Stopping at an intersection, she paused and motioned for him to stop. Just to their left and down the road quiet a bit was a small army patrol. Rylie didn't think they were be seen but there was no point in risking it when a bit of waiting here was not the end of the world.

She watched them and counted to herself, figuring how long before they were at least three blocks further. A wave of her hand and they set out again. Walking they ducked down another dark alley.

“Practice. Understood. I was wondering as shadows are not something the average person just plays with. Makes sense that as a child you might.”

Rylie stopped, turning to look at Daniel. When she questioned other supers only on the rare occasion did they ask about hers and usually it was what they did, not history. Her face was calm as she looked him over.

“I was young. Very young. My toy came to my hand and all I remember after that was growing up in the base and learning how to use my powers. You call it practice, they call it training. I was raised to do my job.”

With a quick turn, Rylie set off down the alley again. “Do you enjoy being a mercenary? I imagine someone with your ability would be very useful for infiltration and extraction of goods or even sabotage.” Rylie glanced over at Daniel.

Daniel shrugs again, following her with silent foot steps. "For me the shadows always felt natural," He says, glancing back towards where they had seen the patrol, "My eyes have always been very light sensitive, even overly bright fluorescent lighting would make them hurt."

When she stopped he looked at her curiously, catching some of the surprise in her mannerisms and her quick relation of the history of her powers. Bred by the military to be their pet He thinks to himself, there's potential there...

Setting off after her, he kept pace and somehow continued to move silently, seeming to not even disturb the debris on the ground as he passed. His breathing was also noticeably more calm, his exhaustion had reached the point again where it was easy for him to hide. "I enjoy it probably more than most people enjoy their jobs at least," He says dismissively, "but that's just me. As for my abilities and the jobs... I do get a lot of jobs because of my abilities and yes they do make me exceptionally skilled at infiltration and such. I have actually been approached by a military on one or two different occasions, trying to recruit me into their special ops groups."

He grimaces and glances away from Rylie, putting on a show of distaste, "Unfortunately some groups do not enjoy taking no for an answer and follow the cliched 'If I can't have you, no one can,' rule for recruitment."

He considers something for a moment then continues, "You know, there was job actually that I picked up a year or two back that was pretty interesting. I got asked to spring a bunch of prisoners from a military convoy while it was en route to a high security base. The job was easy enough, wait for it to get dark, step in to where I need to be, incapacitate the guards, stop part of the convoy, and get the prisoners out. The surprise though, came when I saw the prisoners."

Daniel shakes his head and gives a quiet sigh, "Bunch of kids, none of them older than eight or nine, being held in cells and looking like they hadn't gotten a proper meal in a week or more. Took me a while to figure out why they were transporting the kids like that but I picked up the reason pretty quickly after I saw one lift a boulder and toss it out of sight."

Rylie kept her head forward. She noticed now that his breathing has calmed more. She was glad he seemed to be recovering.

Daniel's mention of the military brought a small amused smile to her lips. He looked away and was making a face, clearly he had no love for military groups. She was not at all surprised he had been recruited on more than one occasion. It is what she'd be doing now if the missile wasn't so pressing of a concern.

Rylie nodded as he relayed the story of military prisoners. Again, surprise did not show on her face. She had seen it happen. Her job was to ensure that powers came of their choice. If they were made prisoners it made them more likely to rebel. She wasn't so naïve to think arrests and kidnappings did not occur however.

“It happens. Most tend to turn a blind eye to it because there isn't a single group military or otherwise who doesn't keep that tactic in their back pocket. I was raised in the military, trained to recruit powers to join of their own accord. Even I know that some are forced into things they don't want.”

Rylie frowned then. It had never occurred to her that perhaps she was taken from her parents to be raised for her ability. She hadn't given any thought at all as to how she wound up there. She just had the memory of one day the toy flying towards her and then she was surrounded by people teaching her. She didn't remember her parents or anyone else. Just military personnel putting her through exercises. Rylie shook her head. Past was past, no point in wondering now.

She turned another corner and after another short distance turned again. It seemed random but she was still heading towards the docks. Rylie's goal was to make them hard to follow.

“So tell me, did you help the kids get away or just free them and leave them to their own devices?”

Daniel shrugs again, "So it does and people do worse things when they think they can get away with it." He says simply, letting that part of the conversation drop. When she shook her head as if to clear it he had to suppress a smile, something he had said had stuck at least.

He paused for a moment before following her around the corner, glancing further down the path they had been taken. He had picked up on what she was doing easily enough and approved of it, just because neither of them had seen anyone tracking them didn't mean there wasn't. With a glance he pulled again at the tiniest amount of his power to keep himself aware of one pool of shadow just large enough to hold him that stretched across the path, if anyone crossed that shadow behind them he would know of it.

Quickly catching up to Rylie again, he gave a smile, "I got them away and brought them to the person paying me to do so. What he did with them I'm not sure since I don't normally keep tabs on the people who give me a one time job." They had been walking for a good while now, given another ten or so minutes and Daniel should be able to teleport them both the rest of the way.

Rylie nodded her eyes still on the road ahead of them. So he wasn't a bad guy. Someone out for just the money would have left the kids there to fend for themselves. She would have done the same.

“Agreed. When I am done recruiting I do not follow up. Not my job.”

Ahead of them another patrol was getting close. This one from a glance was going to pass their location. Rylie forced back up against a wall and slid low to a crouch beside a dumpster. She grab Daniel's arm and pulled him back with her.

“U.N.E. Patrol. Out for gang members or supers....who knows” Her voice was quiet. She looked between the dumpster and the wall. She began mentally calculating the distance to the docks. Still long enough that they needed to be careful but not so long that they couldn't afford to stop and hid here until there was no threat of discovery.

Rylie sat back on her feet, her back pressed against the wall. She turned her head to look at Daniel. “While we wait....what are your impressions of our little ragtag group?”

She watched him for a moment and slowly turned her head to look back to where the patrol would cross their path. He would need time to think, time to sort out the best way to word his feelings about the others. Rylie knew he might surprise her and go the honesty route but given his penchant for subterfuge she fully expected a cross between the truth and carefully diplomatic statement.

The patrol's footsteps got closer. Rylie slowed her breathing. It was automatic. She stayed hidden an awful lot her her line of work and some things were just second nature. Her arms rested on her legs and she was very still. A turn of her head was all she moved, a gesture to let Daniel know she was listening even as she waited for the patrol to pass them by.

Closer they came. She could hear the patrol leader asking the rest for status. From the responses the streets around them were clear. Rylie wasn't surprised, she and Daniel had only come across patrols and with the fighting they had heard at the office, regular people would be staying off of the streets. Anyone with powers who wasn't out for a fight would be hiding to avoid being picked up.

Less than a breath later the patrol was passing the dumpster. The shadows of their spot worked to their advantage. The men also seemed eager to get back so their “inspections of the area” were more lax than they should have been.

The all clear was given and they moved on. Rylie waited again, counting footfalls and then breaths, ensuring they were far away.

Turning to Daniel, she raised an eyebrow. “Shall we?”

Standing slowly, she waited for him to join her.

Daniel sat beside her, scanning the path the patrol was taking and making similar calculations to Rylie's. When she asked her question he didn't make any immediate response, he had been expecting a question like that for a while now. Daniel still remained silent while the patrol passed them by, utterly motionless and completely calm, even if the patrol noticed them it would be simple enough for him to get away after all.

When the patrol was gone and Rylie started to move again, Daniel nodded and stood as well. "Rag tag is a good way to describe the group." He says finally, briefly looking in the direction the patrol went as they walked towards the docks. "Rag tag and paranoid although not without reason. With this many supers being pushed to co-operate it's impressive there hasn't been a full on fight yet." He says, voice even, "Everyone is frustrated and worried which makes them lash out, something I made a good target for. I don't trust any military, which means I'm also keeping an eye on you and Zoey, but I can ignore that. I don't exactly feel like seeing this city get wiped off the face of the planet." Would make it damn hard to take advantage. He silently adds to himself, "John can be careless, taking a stash of weapons like he did and just throwing them to our group was most likely not the smartest thing to do. Watcher is paranoid and distrusting, something I do not blame him for. Zoey is... well, Zoey is confrontational. Adana is a little bit too trusting honestly. I have no idea what to think of Ember yet, too new an addition although I am annoyed that we now need to deal with a bunch of brats. Warren seems cautious, a good thing in our situation, although I don't know how effective he will be given how I don't really know what his powers are."

Daniel spoke with an even tone the entire time, scanning the area around them for possible dangers as he did so. Also satisfied that they were not being followed, he let go of his shadow awareness with a quick shake of his head. "We aren't far from the docks now, do you want to approach on foot or should I teleport us the rest of the way?"

Rylie walked and smiled as Daniel began to talk. She gave him a great deal of credit, he knew how to work cautiously. She wondered briefly if he would have disappeared, leaving her to deal with the patrol alone if they had been found.

Diplomatic. He had taken the safe route with his views on the group. Rylie nodded. He had a good read on the group. If things had been different he might have had her job with the U.N.E and he would have been good at it.

She nodded, “Yes a full on fight.....barely been avoided...” She glanced sideways at him. “Frustrated and worried. Good terms for it. It is good to have a distrust of the military, in their nature to have all sorts of agents out there. Never can tell motives.”

Of course that was true of anyone. Rylie knew that as well as anyone but she knew that most times you had to trust those around you but plan for the worse. While unlike the others she didn't immediately distrust everyone, she never fully bought in either. Weigh your options for each situation. That is what she knew.

She might argue a little that Adana was too trusting, there was something about the girl's demeanour that Rylie envied. Something free and genuine that she almost never encountered. Rylie couldn't argue with his assessments of the others however. They were safe but there was a kernel of truth in each. She did flinch, just slightly at the mention of the children.

Rylie let it go, “I am not entirely sure we know what any of us can do fully, the extent of our powers.”

They were both wary, both watching. That last patrol had been too close and they were too far from the warehouse to simply back off now. “If you think you are ready to use your power again then I am alright with that. I would prefer less chance of being found and your way seems best for that.”

Rylie's tone was non-commital. It was Daniel's offer and she wouldn't force him to make the jump to the dock. The last thing she wanted to do was exhaust him or leave his power so weakened that he might be defenseless. Left like that was a horrible feeling. Rylie's mind briefly flashed to the fight she had helped with when she had first met Adana. She had been exhausted, nauseous and useless for a time.

She stopped, turning to look at him. Her look was the most empathetic Daniel had seen in the brief time he had known her. “Don't overwork your power or tire yourself too much. I don't want you unable to defend or protect yourself.”

Rylie nodded just a little, the gesture meant as curt but coming off as more unsure. Turning she kept walking. If he wanted to teleport then they needed to have a good amount of shadow to pull from. Up ahead was a long shadow cast by the slow setting sun on a near by building.

She stepped into it and waited for him to decide what he wanted to do.

Nodding, Daniel simply stepped forward into the shadows beside her and seized his powers once more, mentally mapping out a path for him to follow. "Alright." He says simply, putting his arm around Rylie again before pulling them both through the shadows. The rest of the trip went much like the start, a bit over a dozen teleports followed by a brief rest repeated over and over again until finally, they appeared in an alleyway with a clear view of the docks.

Breathing heavily again, Daniel stepped away from Rylie and scanned the area around them, noticing that the area had seen likely recent military activity. Some scattered bodies from the fire fights still laid around, not yet taken care of or scavenged for supplies by those still living in the area. "Alright, we're here. Any idea where this group is?" He asks, looking up and down the docks.

Daniel approached and Rylie stayed still. His arm went around her and once more the shadow engulfed them. Once more Rylie stayed still not wishing to interfere with Daniel's movement through the darkness.

When they finally stopped and Daniel took some space to regain his breath, Rylie looked around. Fighting had gone through here and by the lack of clean up it wasn't that long ago. Some of the bodies were military, some were not. Rylie grew concerned that maybe there would be no one left of the group they were looking for. If the fighting had been bad then they might be dead or scattered.

She looked at Daniel, he was scanning the docks. Rylie shook her head. “I know nothing about them other than there is group down here and some have powers. Ember mentioned them. However...” Rylie gestured to the bodies and other damage. “We may be too late.”

She scanned the buildings in the area. “I think it might be best if we keep my affiliations to ourselves. Given what I see here we might not get a warm reception.” She looked over at Daniel.

“I think we start walking and see if anyone comes to us. There are some shipping warehouses there.” She pointed to the right. “And an apartment two blocks backwards.”

She turned to the left. “But given the path of damage I am thinking they hold up somewhere over that way.” With a nod of her head Rylie started to walk towards the left.

Daniel nodded and started heading towards the left, carefully scanning for any signs the supers or straggling military personnel. Thankfully it appeared that the fighting had completely moved past the docks but even so, Daniel surreptitiously drew one of the two military knives he kept in his jacket and held it hidden against the inside of his arm, just something to satisfy his paranoia.

After a few minutes of walking, a small movement caught his eye over near an old boat house, just the quick flash of someone retreating behind a corner they had been watching from. Holding up a hand to stop them both, Daniel glanced between Rylie and the boat house pointedly before walking towards it, assuming that Rylie would follow him.

He tries to peer through one of the windows but finds that they are all boarded up so he instead starts to walk towards the door of the boathouse, calling out as he does so. "Anyone in there? We want to-"

Before he finishes his sentence the wooden wall next to him explodes outward and two thick arms wrap around him, pulling him into a bear hug and starting to squeeze down on him hard. Letting out a sharp hiss of pain, Daniel grabs the shadows that exist between his skin and his clothing and solidifies them, concentrating hard to keep them solid enough to prevent himself from being crushed but otherwise does nothing to try and escape. Past the brand new hole in the wall and the large man who had just made it, a small group of people ranging in age from sixteen to twenty-something, look out with determined expressions.

The man squeezing Daniel stands at around 5'6" making him shorter than Daniel is but he is also lifting the shadow manipulating super off the ground with the bear hug rather easily. His brown hair cut short and his clothing looks torn and ragged.

"What did you want to do?" One of the people, a woman, asked harshly, glaring past Daniel and the man at Rylie. She had similar colored hair and looked quite a bit like the man, possibly a sibling, but stood taller than he did if only by a few inches.

Daniel, with his impromptu shadow armor hidden underneath his clothing, looks over his shoulder at Rylie while apparently ignoring the super trying to squeeze him in half, waiting to see how she would react to the situation.

Rylie moved cautiously, military training keeping her very alert She stayed at Daniel's side, never more than three steps apart. When he raised his hand, looked over, their eyes meeting Rylie knew he had spotted something.

As Daniel asked if anyone was around, Rylie glanced behind her to ensure no one was trying to sneak up. The explosion of the wall outwards caused her to crouch and send a small shield up around herself. Splinters bounced off of the invisible protection. Rylie narrowed her eyes slightly attempting to figure out how quickly she could help free Daniel from the bear hug the man was giving him.

Movement behind and beside him made her eyes shift. A seemingly random group of people appeared. A woman addressed her. The tone was one of displeasure and distaste. Clearly they had no love for intruders. From the damage and bodies she and Daniel passed it was understandable.

Rylie stood slowly. “We wanted to talk to you, that's all. We have no desire to fight, just talk.”

She let the shield drop but kept her mind focused in case it needed to go up again. “I appreciate you letting my friend go. He hasn't attacked you and we aren't with them.” Rylie gestured with her thumb over her shoulder to where the corpses of a few military personnel laid.

“We aren't affiliated with them, we are here to discuss a particular problem that maybe you might be able to help with. Up front, we are trying to stop them...” A movement of her thumb back towards the bodies. “From doing more damage to this city than they have already done.”

Rylie crossed her arms. “If you let him go, we can talk. If you don't want to talk then let him go and we will be on our way, no harm, no foul.”

Rylie's tone was neutral, her posture relaxed. Her eyes scanned the small group of people again. She wondered just how many of them had powers of any sort and how many more might be waiting inside.

The woman snorts at Rylie, "I think it would be better to keep him like that for a little while, just so neither of you try anything funny." She says, looking at the man, "Hey Stan, don't kill him would you? He looks fragile."

Stan grunts, his muscles apparently straining while Daniel starts to sweat from the effort it was taking to resist the man's strength. "Somethin's funny here, Alessa," He says, "This kid won't break." To put emphasis on his point, he lifts Daniel even further into the air and strains even harder, his arms taught while Daniel lets out a simple grunt.

"We really do just want to talk," Daniel says with surprising calm, shocked expressions crossing the faces of the strangers at the fact that he could talk at all, "And as friendly as I want to appear, this just isn't a good position for me to be in." He draws the shadows from inside the boathouse to cover both him and Stan, smirking slightly as he sets up another pool next to Rylie and then teleports out of Stan's grip, making the man stumble and nearly slap himself in the chest.

Alessa hisses and crouches, glaring at them both, "Supers," She spits, "Just what our group needed more of!" Around them, quite a few rocks, clumps of earth, and chunks of broken up pavement start floating, making Daniel looking around warily, unsure if he could teleport them both away in time. "We don't need your help and we don't want to help you, we can handle the fighting on our own and it'll die out on its own soon enough."

Stan moves to stand between the boat House and Rylie and Daniel, glaring at them both.

Rylie remained very calm. She shrugged slightly at the woman's snort. “We aren't here to try anything. But given the present circumstances I can understand your caution.”

She inclined her head towards Daniel. “Yes, I would appreciate you not killing my friend.”

Rylie could see the slightly dark shadows around Daniel and knew he was using his power to keep the obviously strong man from crushing him. The man's exclamation that Daniel wouldn't break confirmed her suspicions.

Rylie made a mental note, “Stan. Alessa.” Names were always good to have.

She nodded as Daniel asserted they were just there to talk and the others that watched froze their faces in masks of shock at his ability to still breathe, let alone talk. Rylie saw the smirk on Daniel's face and was not at all surprised when he appeared beside her, leaving the strongman fumbling.

She readied a mental shield to protect them both if need be. Her breathing was slow and regular as she watched carefully for what the group might do next. As the woman, Alessa crouched, Rylie put up her shield. Pieces of rock, dirt and pavement hovered in the air around them. Beside her, Daniel watched the objects warily.

Rylie's hands were slightly out at her side, her way of focusing the invisible barrier that her mind had created. Stan moved and Rylie's eyes followed him.

Her ponytail swung slightly as she shook her head, “It won't die down anytime soon. The militaries are here for something very specific and won't stop till one of them has it. Once they get it, well worse fighting will break out to stop the victor from using it. You misunderstand though, we don't presume to walk in and tell you we can fix your problem. We are looking for others to help us in order to protect everyone.”

Rylie looked the woman over, “Not that it is expected or owed to this city but as long as those military groups are here there will be fighting with the gangs and them hunting the streets. They will capture any super they come across and will stop at nothing to get the one item they are tracking down. We, my associates and I, have that item but we cannot move it on our own. There are too few of us.”

She inhaled slowly, “What we ask is a moment of your time to hear out what we have to say. If you do not want to help, well we will walk away. Nothing more than talk. We aren't here to fight. There is too much of that in this city already, we don't need to be doing it amongst ourselves.”

Rylie's tone was neutral and calm. She knew they would not be forced into helping and she in no way wanted to or could force them. If they were to help it would be because they listened and understood, wanted to help. If they wouldn't hear them out than so be it.

She kept her shield up, she wasn't sure yet if the debris would come flying at them or not and she didn't have time to deal with either of them being knocked unconcious.

"Alessa right? I am Rylie. We would like the chance to discuss things with you but I can see you have a lot to handle already." Rylie's head gestured towards those gathered around the dock. "I understand that, we have a few with us too. What we are proposing is working together to make things better for everyone."
