Orphan, Parselmouth, loner
Name: Jonathan "John" Bloggs
Age: 11
Gender: Male
Appearance:
John always dresses neat, but his clothes almost always appear to be baggy thanks to his lanky, thin form. He tends to dress in dark colors, adding to the common impression that he is the dark, creepy kid, but John honestly likes dark colors better as he thinks he looks good in them and bright colors hurt his eyes at times. He has pale blue eyes and long hair that tends to grow down his back. It was the first hair-style he chose as his own and his first bit of accidental magic was regrowing it accidentally when it was cut, causing the orphanage to give up. His eyes are a light blue and skin is pale, but not unnaturally so as he tended to spend more time in doors before Hogwarts as there wasn't much that attracted his interest outside save for the orphanage's moderately-sized garden.
Blood-Status: Unknown;
Personality: John tends to be polite, mostly due to his upbringing at the orphanage as that was one of its strictest rules. However, he can and will deliver biting and sarcastic comments when he is annoyed and angry. Not to say he is malicious, but that's the way he is and he doesn't care that he rubs people the wrong way. John prefers reading and practicing magic on his own, though he can tolerate and even enjoy being within a small group. He love snakes, sometimes more than other humans, and he tends to get testy when people talk badly of them and downright furious if he sees someone hurting one. Overall, John is a difficult individual to get along with, but he is intelligent and clever as well as a loyal friend at the expense of being an implacable enemy once someone earns his ire. John has a certain disregard for the rules and he tends to look after his own skin, but he will not bail out on a friend.
History: Jonathan, or "John" as he likes to be called, never knew who his parents were. His mother died in childbirth at a Muggle orphanage, only staying alive long enough to name him, and she herself had no records, possibly indicating that she was a Witch. Shortly after his birth, John was placed in the care of St. Agnus' Orphanage in London, an old orphanage that was packed with children and dependent on donations and government grants. It was cramped with too many other kids, but St. Agnus' wasn't a miserable home. The staff there did seem to genuinely care for the children they were charged for and provided them with with care and an education. There were bullies of course and some children had issues as many were like John and did not know their parents. Some children seemed to sense John was different and picked on him for it while other bullies simply picked on him because he was one of the small children. Nonetheless, when John somehow sent a kid flying across the room, he was given his space. As he grew older, he was regarded as a creepy kid, but he had a few friends and he treasured those dearly. One of these friends, it so happened, was a snake.
John and the other kids his age were playing in a garden when he found it. At first, all he heard was a whispering voice complaining about pain, so he didn't notice. He couldn't ignore it, however, and after some frantic searching, he found a common garter snake with a nail going through its tale. He found himself asking it if it was okay, despite himself, and was shocked to hear it answer back. After talking to it a little, John found that it had accidentally gotten hit by a nail gun by the man that repaired the garden's fence recently and John managed to beg and plead with the woman that was watching the orphans and she managed to pull out the nail and bandage it up after she got over her initial disgust.
Over the years, John continued to talk to the snake, whom he named Scales. He tried to tell his friends that it could talk, but they only heard hissing so he played it off as a joke. When he turned 11, he was visited by Professor Slughorn, who told him that he was a Wizard and presented him with his letter. Unfortunately, he told the ambitious man about his talking to snakes and Slughorn filed away that information for future use should John manage to secure a high position at the ministry or become a famous Quidditch player. The Slug Club wasn't the only way he managed to gain favors, after all. After shopping for his things at Diagon Alley, John decided to take Scales with him and, as he's about to start his first year at Hogwarts, he can't be more excited.
