Introduction
Whilst driving through the night, you find yourself caught in a rainstorm and lost in the middle of nowhere, miles from anhy town or any help. Damn that old man and his directions! But things get worse when you swerve to avoid a figure in the road, and end up broken down in a ditch. Just when you think you are stranded, a flash of lightning illuminates a nearby mansion, a considerable way off the road.
As you get out of your car, little do you know that the torrential rain and howling wind are nothing compared to the horrors that await you within...
This is based on the adventure book of the same name by Steve Jackson, and will be a more traditional 'play through adventure' roleplay where the environmental control is the sole remit of the Games master. So, for example, if your character opens a box, the GM will state what the character finds in the box. If the character opens a new door, they must wait for the GM to describe the room within before posting again.
Therefore this RP will involved shorter posts and be more decision based than literary based. However, creativity and literacy are encouraged!
I'm only really expecting one person to join, whom I've invited, but if you're interested in taking part, PM me and I'll see if we can accomodate!

OOC Notes
The rain drove hard against the windscreen, as the driver strained to see through the darkness. The wipers flailed valiantly, but they were fighting a losing battle. No road sign had been sighted for several miles, and the narrow country lane seemed to go on and on. To the left the landscape fell away into dense forest, and to the right it rose into a range of wooded hills. Ahead and behind, the road twisted and wound through a torrential stormy haze.
Damn that white-haired old man who’s directions had taken us this way. The last house they’d seen was at least two miles back. They were quite literally in the middle of nowhere, and the road was so windy that they didn’t even know what direction they were driving in. There was no phone, 3G or GPS signal. It was like a dead zone. There was only the car, it’s two passengers, and the rain....

The rain hitting the windshield made it impossible to sleep so Leva was thinking about why she was in the car instead of out with her friends at the biggest party of the year. Her father had asked, no commanded her presence home for break. She pulled her rich black hair from her face and looked out the cars window into the pitch blackness of the stormy night, "We should really pull over and sleep in the car" she mumbled softly. Leva understood why they weren't but her hands were clenched because she was suppressing shivers that were rolling down her spin, she didn't like driving in the rain or dark. The phone conversation she had with her dad lasted a total of ten seconds, "Leva come home" then the beep of the phone being hung up, She was hurt her dad didn't stay and talk, or didn't seem to really care about her. It almost seemed like Mother had reminded him of Leva's existent at all, With a soft sigh she closed her eyes trying desperately to get some sleep.

Julia kept driving down the rode, glancing over at Leva with a sympathetic expression. The poor girl was restless and tossing and turning in the seat as the rain pounded against the glass windows and windshield. She kept her eyes back on the road, straining to see in the dark rain and water being washed up by the tires of the other cars driving in front of her. She sighed, leaning baack in the seat as her hands were firmly on the steering wheel and her own eyes were growing tired.
She flipped her dark blue hair and then spoke. "You hungry?" she asked, glancing at the girl. They were going to be in a town soon and if Leva was hungry; Julia would stop and grab her some food to eat before she got home. She kept looking back at the road again, tilting her head out the windshield, struggling to keep her own eyes open in the darkness.

Leva looked at Julia and nodded her head "I dont care I just want out of this car!" she excliamed without thinking, she was never this open and smiled shyly. Her soft hair fell in her face and she blowed it out of her face. "I'm sorry that you have to drive me home" she appecited the ride but she felt bad anyways. "I dont like driveing in the rain" she expliand to Julia with a shy experasion.
OOC Notes
As the two girls spoke, the headlights suddenly flashed up a figure...a human figure in the road! Without even having any time to think about it, Julia instinctively hit the breaks and swung the wheel to avoid the figure, careering wildly off the road and bumping over the grass. With a thud the engine cut out, and the car came to a stop in a ditch. There were no other cars in sight, nobody had seen the accident.
After a moment to gather their thoughts, one thing became apparent; there was no way they could have avoided whoever it was that had been in the road. They must have hit them!

Leva was hypervenatlating "Shi....SHIT!! we hit him!!" she cried hystaricly then another thing filled her mind "Your car..." she looked at Julia, a small whimper escaped her lips. With a sigh she picked up the pieces of her thought and orgainized them then turned to the backsit and pulled out her darkpurple overnight bag. "I guess we have to look for him...then find some where to stay". Her eyes flashed with fear but she shoved open her door and looked at Julia "You ok??".
OOC Notes
Julia suddenly found herself on the side of the road; in shock as her hands were trembling on the steering wheel. She instantly looked around and she blinked for a minute before she looked over at Leva. "Y-Yea.... come on." Julia instantly shot out of the car, pulling out her phone and shining it on the road. She looked around for the figure, not knowing if Leva was follwoing her or not.
OOC Notes
Julia’s clothes soaked up the rain as she hobbled back to the road. In the darkness it was difficult to see anything. But there was no sign of a body anywhere! Could Julia be certain that it was someone and not a trick of the light? Yes. She remembered the arms held up in fright as the car collided, and the look of anguish on his face. His face! There was something familiar about that face. A man she recognized. An old man; with white hair...
No, impossible!
As for the car; it was not budging from the ditch without help. The situation was hopeless. But the plight of the car was paramount. Where could they get help? The last garage they passed was twenty miles away.
Then, as if in answer, a light appeared in the distance. Someone had switched on a bedroom light. What a stroke of luck! It was two miles since they’d passed the last house, and they happened to have broken down just a short distance from someone’s home. On examination, they saw that just ahead, on the right, was a driveway winding up to a large house. It looked like a good five minutes walk up the long driveway...and by the time they reached the house they would be drenched. But how else would they be able to call a garage? Their options seemed thin on the ground...

Leva sighed and looked at Julia "Lets go, We are soaked and we need a phone thats works" she said and pulled her arm gently, she seemed to be stuck in the road. She shivered from the cold and the feeling that something wasnt right, SHe closed her eyes and started to walk toward the drive way her hand firmly intangled in Julia's she didnt want to be outside any more. With a irratated sigh she pulled her wet hair from her face.
OOC Notes
Julia looked over at Leva and sighed. She followed the girl down the road towards the driveway, as her blue hair became black and stuck to the sides of her face and her neck. She crossed her arms to try to keep herself warm, pulling her sweater closed to her side but then she felt Leva's hand entangled in her's. She squeezed Leva's hand softly as they kept walking up the driveway, shivering lightly.
OOC Notes
Eventually the girl's reached the porch, climbing the creaking steps to the front door. As fast as they'd tried to move, they were soaked through; their feet being particularly wet. Judging by the number of puddles they'd stepped into in the dark, the drive was in need of a small fortune spending in repairs.
Under the porch, they were out of the rain which was still pelting down. Even so, an eerie silence hung in the air. There was no sign of any lights being on downstairs. And even the upstairs light which had attracted their attention earlier was no longer on; the whole place seemed deserted. But then, it was five minutes to midnight. Everyone in the house was probably in bed.
In the distance, an owl hooted, sending a shiver down their spines. They were in the middle of nowhere, at a strange, run-down old house, about to wake up whoever lived inside at midnight. They certainly wouldn't be too pleased. But if Julia was going to make her appointment tomorrow, they had no choice.
Just then, a dull glow appeared from around the side of the house. A light had been turned on! At least someone was awake. The girls were presented with a few options; there was an elaborate knocker in the middle of the door, as well as a bell-pull hanging to the right, or alternatively there was the option of investigating the light around the side of the house...

Julia saw the light turn on. She sighed and she reached up; putting her hand on the knocker. The rain might drown out the sound of the bell and the knocker was louder and could be felt. She needed to get herself and Leva inside, to be dry and to phone for the auto service in the morning. She needed to make sure they were in a dry place; she was responsible for Leva since she was the one who had been driving her home.
She then would wrap her fingers around the knocker and pound it onto the door three times, loud and hard so the person inside could hear. She hoped they would be kind or if they didn't want them inside; at least tell them directions to the nearest town. Julia waited, taking her hand off the knocker and waiting for whoever was inside to come answer the door.

OOC Notes
Leva hunched into herself, way from the cold. She flinched when the knocker hit the door and stepped closer to Julia, seeking the safety from the woman next to her. When her feet started to go numb from the wet and cold she whimpered softly, she hoped that they would open the door ad invite them in. With a shivery movement she slipped her arms around Julia and cuddled into her, warming them both up a little.
OOC Notes
After a few moments, the door-handle slowly turned and the door opened. Standing in the doorway was a tall man dressed in a dark suit with tails. His long face was solemn; he had the appearance of a butler. He raised an eyebrow at the two sodden girls, and indignantly spoke with a curt greeting: "Yes?"
OOC Notes
Julia felt Leva's arms around her and she clung back to Leva, shivering as she looked up at the man and she cleared her throat. "We're terribly sorry for knocking so late; but we got in a car accident down the road and my car is totaled. This was the only house around for a few miles. We were wondering if we could dry off a bit and use a phone to call the car agency to have them come pick us up." Julia said, still shivering as she tried to keep her teeth from chattering.
OOC Notes
"Come in", the man said, his face remaining expressionless. "The master will recieve you, follow me."
He led them into a reception hall, and instructed them to sit down while he went to inform his master of their arrival. When he was gone, Julia and Leva could see that the reception hall was not at all what they would have expected from the run-down outside of the house. It was elegantly decorated, with rich tapestries and fine oak panels. A sturdy sixteenth-century table was set against one wall. But while they waited, there wasn't much to do except wait for their host to arrive, or study the paintings, or hunt around for a telephone.

Leva didn't let go of Julia until they were safely in the house when the did she noticed some paintings but didn't really look at then instead she poured out her over night bag to find her clothes sodden but the electronics that had been wrapped in them were dry and safe. "Julia, I'm scared" she whispered as she repacked her bag. Her fingers tapped on the floor where she was sitting out of fright, her thick black hair fell sopping down her back and almost hitting the floor while she was sitting. Her eyes followed Julia, she was petrified; this is how horror movies start. She wouldn't let Julia leave her sight.
OOC Notes
Julia walked inside the house and she sat down next to Leva. "Thank you..." she said quietly to the man who had ushered them in. She kept her arms around Leva, rubbing Leva's right shoulder as she looked around the area. Paintings... it was a hall of paintings and artifacts; and it was quite Victorian and gloomy inside the house. She blinked and then she looked over at Leva. "Don't worry, Leva. We'll get a phone and then we can call for the agency and get someone to come pick us up." she said, smiling nervously at her before she continued to look around.
OOC Notes
After a short wait there was the sound of footsteps! The tall man the girls had met earlier walked in, opening the door for another tall man dressed in a purple smoking-jacket.
"May I present Lord Kelnor, the Earl of Drumer," the butler announced.
The Earl stepped forward and extended his hand towards the girls to shake.
"Pleasure to meet you both." he said in a soft, kind voice. "There is no need to explain yourselved, I can see well enough that you have been caught i this filthy storm. Let us sit by the fire and we will see whether we can help. Franklins, tell the cook to prepare some food for our visitors."
Giving the girls no opportunity to reply or protest, the Earl opened another door and gestured for them to follow him into the drawing room, where a fire was burning in an ornate fireplace.

Julia looked up at the tall man in the purple jacket. She kept her arms around Leva, pulling her up and she slowly following the man into the room as she looked over at the fire. She then took her own sopping wet jacket off, holding it in her arms as water dripped on the floor and she took Leva's jacket off as well. "Is there anywhere I could put these? They aren't much use when they are sopping wet.." she said, trying to be polite as she walked over near the fire, pulling Leva with her and looking at the man.
"We're very sorry for intruding this late." she said, her wet hair clinging to her neck and shoulders and back.

The butler, Franklins, walked back into the room with a silver tray with three glasses of brandy. He presented the tray to the Earl, who took one glass with a cordial nod, and then placed the tray on the central coffee table for Julia and Leva to help themselves.
“There is no need to apologise for your misfortune my dear.” The Earl said genially. “Franklins mentioned about your accident; these roads are treacherous and this weather...uncanny. I am sure you were hoping to use our phone to call the garage. I’m afraid, however, we’ve suffered from the storm also; our telephone line came down tonight.”
He paused to take a long sip of the brandy, smiling warmly afterwards.
“We will have the phone line repaired in the morning,” he continued, “ but in any case the local garage would not come out at this hour. But don’t worry. You are perfectly welcome to spend the night here; I am glad of the company.”

Leva masked her fright and picked up a glass of brandy taking a sip and making a face, she had never liked alcohol preferring energy drinks at parties instead. Her eyes danced around the room then settled on the finely dressed man while putting the glass down, "I'm only sixteen do you have soda or water instead?" she asked politely. She didn't like the weird feeling she had in her stomach, She stood close to the fire feeling the warmth seep into her skin and it made her relax even though she was scared.
OOC Notes
Julia took a glass of brandy and she slowly took a sip, the warm tingly feeling of alcohol filling her throat as she downed it quickly and closed her eyes. She was honestly still a bit traumatized from the car total and it made her shake slightly as she would lean her head back against a chair and she looked towards the man and she coughed a bit. "That's fine. Thank you so much for your hospitality." Julia said politely as she looked over at Leva and grinned a bit.
"I was taking her back home. A man... jumped out in front of us, I could barely see him so I had to swerve into the ditch and my car... it just... it's totally totaled." Julia said, trying to get the image out of her mind. "But when we came back to see if he was okay... he was gone." she said, looking down at her knees.

OOC Notes
The Earl laughed heartily and raised his glass towards Leva.
"Of course my dear," he said, "I'm afraid this far out in the country we often forget the norms of society. I'll make sure something softer is served with our meal."
He listened intently to Julia's relating of their encounter, and shrugged casually, the warm smile remaining on his face.
"Truly these roads and this weather, they can play all sorts of tricks on the tired mind. Let us be thankful at least that the two of you were not hurt. Ah! Here is Franklins now!"
The butler came back in to announce that a meal was ready. The Earl rose and gestured for Julia and Leva to follow him through to a magnificent looking dining room, where a long table stretched between three fine chairs and was laid with gleaming silver cutlery. A rich red wallpaper covered the walls and the room was lit by a sparkling chandelier, bristling with candles. The Earl took the one solitary seat on the one side of the table, leaving the two on the other side for the girls.
With a straight face, Franklins announced that the meals prepared were a choice of lamb or duck. The Earl instructed the butler that he would have the duck, and glanced at the girls waiting for them to make their choice.

OOC Notes
Leva scowled but not overly when the meal chooses were announced, being a vegetarian for two years had changed her views on meat. "Umm...I'll have .....Lamb?" she questioned not sure how to answer that without offending her host. She looked at Julia with a question in her eyes; Am I doing this right? then she smiled at her host and tried to relax. "So, Mr....?" she said fishing for his name or something to call him.
