Introduction
Storyline
It has been five hundred years since the dragon wars, those living in Htrea have felt terror and death again: Maverick has arisen.
Using a gemstone the powers of which only he has grasped, Maverick has stolen the minds of those of his own race; the dark elves. Now, with his army made up of almost all the dark elf population, he reaches out from beneath the ground to concur the world above.
Races
Human: Most common race on Htrea next to elves and dragons. They have learned to develop magic that is lesser than an elf's or dragon's but is still powerful enough to make an impact.
Dragon: Most magical of the races, also one of the oldest. Their powers depend on their color. (ex: White is healing and/or wind, Black is shadow, Blue is water...etc.)
Elf: There are three types of elves. Wood elves, Dark elves, and High elves. Elves tend to live with their own kind, though in some small areas they have started to co mingle.
Demon: Third most magical race on Htrea, their powers depends on their 'type'.
Half Dragon: A mix between dragons and other humanoid races. The most common mix is dragon with human or wood elf.
Orc: One of the least common races, their kind were nearly wiped out during the dragon wars. Tend to keep to themselves, or live with Trolls.
Troll: Also one of the least common races, they are the 'vultures' of the land.
Vampire: There are two types of vampires. One type lives off of blood, they normally have red eyes and are weaker when out in daylight they don't need to sleep. The other kind don't need blood to survive, though they still drink it, they normally have blue eyes, and need to sleep.
Neko: A part cat, part human creature. They have recently appeared throughout the land, some believe that they used to be Nymphs.
Technology/Weaponry
There is no technology, everyone depends on the land and magic for resources.
Weapons consist of swords, daggers etc. There are no guns.
Religion
All people of Htrea pray to what they call the 'dragons of the sky'. They believe that these are what created their world, and what judges them when they die.
NOTE: Instead of heaven or hell, all living things believe that they go to the 'everlasting skies' when they die.
Politics
There are a few kingdoms spread out through the land. Here are their locations, and their respective rulers.
Nogard- A dragon/half dragon/Human kingdom near the mountains of shadow. Durg is the king of this land, his symbol is a bright red gem that rests in his crown.
Nad- A elven kingdom in the forest of Nad. Lakar is the king of this land, his symbol is a gold leaf.
Nimad- A Orc/Troll/Demon kingdom near the ocean of Tralet. Aylia is the queen of this land, her symbol is of Tralet, one of the five.
Eqatue- A Vampire/Neko/Human kingdom in the Valley of Arian. Evia is the queen of this land, her symbol is the sun.
Retan- A Human kingdom in the Valley of Retan, near the ocean of Tralet. Araj is the king of this land, his symbol is a horse running in the wind.
Map- http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd27 ... rldMap.png
There are a few lesser kingdoms, that have no set names or rulers. These are places where all races can live.
Travel
People use horses, ferries(small boats or platforms made of wood) and wagons to travel.
History
This is the story that the elders tell to younger generations:
The great dragons of the sky were once creatures of flesh and blood, as you and I are. They came to this place and found it drik-without life. The five decided to create life for this place they had found. Such was within their power, so they did so.
Hartier-the dragon of earth, stomped upon the soot and rock they found. The shakes he created caused mountains to rise and cracks to appear.
Tralet-the dragon of water, cried upon the cracks her brother had created. Water flowed into these cracks, and nourished the dry land.
Retan-dragon of wind, blew out in a mighty huff at the sight of what had become. Wind blew, sweeping the dust away, and allowing plants to grow.
Ertier-dragon of fire, blew his flames all around. The flames hardened the soil, so that it could not turn to dust again.
Arian-dragon of light, flew into the sky with a mighty roar. Light came to the world, and the five were proud of what they made.
These five dragons roamed this new land, but soon got bored with each other, and started to fight. They argued that there was not enough life on their new home, and whether or not to create fellow creatures to roam the lands with them. Soon they saw reason and combined their powers once again. This time they made the creatures that walk the earth. When they had finished, they were again proud of what they had made. Years passed, and the dragons grew older. They soon agreed that they should return to their home in the sky, and keep a eye on their creations. So the five flew away, and created the everlasting skies; where those creatures they had made could join them when their veras-or life, was over.
Years later, the dragons started a war against those of other races. This is the most famous war in the history of Htrea, for the high number of deaths it caused. The war raged for many years, during which Durg (the king of dragons) watched nonchalantly. Finally, a band of four adventurers—a wood elf, a dragon, a nymph and a demon—set out to make the king of dragons see sense. After reaching the mountain in which Durg lived, they managed to persuade him to call the dragons home, and thus the war ended.

A well-groomed elf stepped in, a smile on his face as he turned to close the door behind him. His multi-coloured cloak and his liquid movements made him seem like a part of the wall, something that was developed throughout the last five hundred years and had become part of his instincts.
He let his gaze go towards the bar, expecting to see Anya... but he didn't. Anya wasn't there. There was a moment of panic as he remembered her vision; something about a dark elf having gathered an army, and his heart skipped a beat. He whirled around in a circle, his gaze quickly surveying the inn... and there she was. He couldn't help the smile that came over his features whenever he saw her. There was something within her that most people saw and some ignored, but during their time as a married couple, Elnin had come to appreciate her the more every day he came back and saw her here.
He began to walk towards her with instinctive agility. He was so intent on her that he hadn't noticed the other two. There was something that constantly nagged at him, however, as he wove his way through the tables. Something wasn't right. And then it hit him: Anya was not at the bar. That happened often, true. But it hadn't happened before that she would be sitting at a table, with a sword on the table, and two men leaning in like they were discussing something dangerous. Noticing this, he just managed to control his pace and his expression as he stood by the table and inclined his head in respect. He knew Anya would have sensed him as he entered, but in a habit of five hundred years, he put a hand on her shoulder and gave a gentle squeeze. It was his secret sign for telling her that he loved her and appreciated her presence.
“Hello there everyone,” he said softly, like he was in a dinner party. Nonchalance, he had found, was the best way to get what was going on, especially when Anya was there.

As far as Feran was concerned, the only time it was acceptable to kill an animal is when it is ill or wounded beyond healing. As a consequence of these rather extreme view, he and Elnin had had a few unpleasant meetings in the forest when Feran had tried to stop him hunting.
"Good day, Elnin," he said quietly and politely, knowing that it was not wise to try and drag up old grudges in such a public setting.

With the smile from his memories playing across his lips, Elnin turned to Feran.
“Feran!” He exclaimed, appearing genuinely pleased to see him there. Of course it was just a display, however. Anyone knowing about him and Feran could tell what thoughts were going on behind his eyes; eyes that were not quite as smiling as his lips.
Elnin agreed on a lot of matters with Feran. He was a good man, and pleasant company. Plus, he had a lot of great ideas. However, this issue with animals always got between them, and perhaps this was the reason they never came to see the points that were common between them. For elnin, feeding the village was one of the responsibilities that had been unceremoniously dumped onto his shoulders.
Since their adventure five hundred years ago, people of the village had come to regard Elnin and Anya a lot more. They had become, in a matter of days, two people that most people admired and looked up to. Of course there was the initial comment about Anya's lack of sight in the beginning, but seeing her abilities, everyone had agreed that an Anya without sight would be even more useful, perhaps, than an Anya with sight. For Elnin, however, it didn't matter. Sight or no sight, he and Anya shared what most wished to share, and to keep the villagers happy, he had to hunt.
That would be what he would tell Feran.
However, deep within his heart, he knew that was not the only reason. Perhaps most of the reason, yes, but not all. The thing was, Elnin needed something to quicken his pulse, to cause his lips to press together, to cause adrenaline to be pumped into his blood. For that purpose, there was nothing as good as sneaking through the forest, chasing animals and then shooting them from the shadows. For Elnin, there was a certain thrill in moving through the forest, with only a talented few able to register his presence.

For the first time, he noticed the person to whom the sword probably belonged. He inclined his head to him, then let his glance run through the inn, giving everyone a belated nod in return to their greetings.
“So,” he said, returning his glance to their table and biting on his lower lip, “is this war thing really serious?” He quickly turned to Anya. “I'm not saying I don't trust your visions love, but you know as well as I do that visions can have many meanings that might not be apparent.” He gave her hand a brief squeeze, then, asked his question again, letting it hang in the air. “So, do we have any proof of dark elves trying to have war?”

"The Dark elves have been felling trees in their territories at a rate that i for one have never witnessed before. They have drastically increased their hunting activities too. Every day i see more creatures arrive in these parts injured at the hands of the Dark elves. That is proof enough that, at the very least, they are declaring war on the forest." he said, leaning forward in his seat and speaking in a somewhat hushed tone, not wanting to divulge too much of what he was saying to the other customers of the Inn.
"I'm surprised you haven't come across any such creatures during your time in the forest, Elnin," He added "Then again i suppose you would just call them an easy dinner."
He had not intended the words to express his feelings as much as they did, and was somewhat regretful of how biting they came across.

Now that business was out of the way for now, Gustav looked up to the man now present. "Good day." he now verbalize his greeting, his expression remaining serious, his eyes still ablaze. As Anya spoke of him, Gustav nodded and gave an informal salute. "Gustav Adler." he stated gruffly, though he took notice of the way Anya referred to him, and her hesitation to do so. "And I believe the Guard Captain will be able to aid us well, given we can get to him with tangible data." The night folded his arms, and looked toward the table. "Old bastard was always a 'facts and numbers' type, after all..."
Gustav listened quietly as Elnin interrogated his wife of the vision, and Dark Elves, and he chimed in for a moment. "The only proof I would have is that they attacked me on the way here. I may have been close to their territory, but it was on one of the protected trade routes..." Gustav now came to a sudden realization, "...Without a guard to be found, now that I think of it. There may be more evidence present than I'd originally thought..."
Next, Feran presented his evidence. As he listened silently, Gustav shook his head at the Elf's comment. "Come now, leave personal grievances aside, Feran. This is a serious matter, and you'll be getting involved one way or another. May as well work with the people who have at least a shred of information, right?" He spoke confidently, a bit tickled at the fact that a human, a young one at that, had just instilled wisdom to an Elf. One centuries old. "What we do know, is that if this truly comes to pass, we'll need all the help we can get."

The Dark Elf looked upon the wreckage that his army had done, and smiled. Dead dwarves were spread out, their leaders head on a pike beside him, on display for all to see. "My army!! You have fought well! Against this town of Dwarves, we only lost a few of our own!! Let this be a sign to anyone who see it what happens to those who stand in our way!!!!!!" A cheer filled the underground city, echoing slightly. The dark elf smiled wider, looking more than a little evil. He was gaining power as he caused more destruction, the gem around his neck fed on the carnage, giving him more power in return. "We march on to Nogard!!! We will show the dragons who the true heirs to Htrea are!!! We will slay Durg, and put his head high enough for the whole land to see!!!" another cheer greeted this. The major hunk of the army would continue to travel under ground, while a third of them would head for Nad. Tonight he would see to it that Nad would burn, and all the other elves either killed or captured. The gem had proved not to work on Dwarves-perhaps because of their stubborn nature-but the Dark Elf knew it worked on elves...so he may as well replace those who died with fresh troops...it didn't matter if they were Wood or High elves, as long as the gem worked. If it didn't...well he figured that Htrea could survive without elves.
Anya snapped out of it with a jerk, tears flowing freely down her cheeks. "The dwarves have been taken....he heads for Nogard, a third of his army is set for here..." she looked to Elnin "They plan on destroying the forest...killing the old and feeble, capturing the young and strong." she sniffed the sadness of the vision not even close to fading....such death and destruction....was all of Htrea going to fall?

"King Lakar must be informed, he can summon the High elves - they call this forest home too and they have as much of a duty to protect it as we do," he paused for a moment, as if thinking "And the animals, they must be warned! The Druids of the northern reaches too. Anya, the King will grant you an audience. I'm certain he would. We should go immediately, the more we tarry the closer the Dark Elves get..."

After a few moments, Gustav attempted to calm himself, rising from his seat, and lifting his blade from the floor. "One third is coming here..." he thought aloud, his anger not interfering with his judgement just yet. "This is a large community... I'm sure that we could fight, if there were some sort of defensive structure... Though I don't know of any, as I'm new to this land." Gustav inspected the face of Feran, who seemed to darken as Gustav mentioned defense. "No defenses then..." he growled, squeezing his blade tighter. He slammed an open palm onto the table once more. "Well I'm certainly not going down without a fight! If we can assemble a force, no matter its size, and perhaps drive back this set of elves, I'm sure with proper routing we can reach Nogard by no more than two days after their main force arrives." The young but experience tactician began laying out strategies in his mind. "The wood elves are famous for their stealth, and archery skills... If we can keep them hidden, perhaps we can attempt a sneak attack, and hit them before they know there will be resistance. That should greatly reduce their capabilities." Gustav looked out the window, and across the street to another tavern, one reserved specifically for the hired blade. "We'll need foot-soldiers as well. I'll see what aid I can scrounge up from the Guild."

Elnin nodded to the warrior in agreement and made a discrete gesture for him to sit down. Then he leaned forward, his lips parted in an expression of half-anger, half-smile. He looked into Feran's eyes, and with as much self-control as he could muster replied, “I do not call them easy dinner. In fact, I didn't even shoot any of them. However, you have to agree that we're getting the same amount of bruised animals from the forest at the side of dragons, and since I can not -talk- to animals, I didn't know if they were attacked by swords or by what.”
He rubbed his face with his left hand and looked at his wife. “Apparently, now we have the proof.” He chuckled softly, trying to get the tense mood to lift from the table – to which he was partly responsible.
“The thing is,” he said, turning to the warrior, “we don't really know of the numbers. Even a third of the dark elf population is more than I and my archer friends can handle. I have a suggestion.”
He paused for a moment, and gave Anya's hand another small, gentle squeeze, as if to ask her to consider this as logically as she could. “Anya has told me of a gem in her first vision. Now that all of this is true, the gem is also there. The best way to disable this army, rather than meeting it by force, is to disable its cause. The cause is the gem. Put this away for a moment though. We have the problem of this approaching army. That makes us have to somehow fight them. However, we are not aware of their number, their equipment, and their condition. Gathering a large force in here to fight this army is going to take a long time, something we don't have. So our best bet in this situation is to disable them, or somehow weaken them. And if these dark elves are coming to us, charmed by a gem, I don't think a few arrows is going to make them retreat. I propose that I go and spy on this army, then come back and report to all of you. Then, based on what I've seen, we could decide. Besides, I will see if I can get a look at that gem. We need to destroy that gem. That should be our first priority. Without that gem, there would be no army, and no loss for the dark elves. I don't like them, but I don't like killing them either.” He waited, then added, “so, if you all agree, I'd better go ready myself.”

“So what you're saying is that Nad is safe? I trust you. But the problem is, what about Nogard? Even if Nogard stays safe, and manages to keep the fighting out of the gates, we're talking about charmed dark elves here. They will be throwing themselves to the point of blades without caring. They will be slaughtered whether or not Nogard succeeds to keep this Mav-whatever out.” He leaned in towards Anya, and pressed his point. “We need to get rid of that gem. What if it keeps getting stronger? What if its range isn't as little as we think it is? What if there is actually no range, and once charmed, the only way to remove the charm would be to destroy the gem?”
He remembered that he was putting too much pressure on Anya, then added softly, “love, we're gambling with a lot of things here. A lot of things, and a lot of lives. If one of usgoes and anything happens to him, it's better than a whole settlement going up in flames.”
He cast his eyes about the table, hoping that any of the other two would agree. Then, perhaps to make Gustav more eager to agree said, “you could go and ask for help in case I failed. Then Gustav could take a look around for his friends, and see if they have survived.”

"You cannot go alone, Elnin. I will go with you. Few Elves know these woods better than you and I," he said, not entirely happy with the idea "Anya and Gustav could no doubt make it to Nogard at least a day before the Dark Elves...If they move quickly and perhaps fly part of the way."
He looked around the table. He hoped Anya was right about Nad's defences. He could not face returning to find the forest destroyed and the animals dead.
"Your plan is crazy, Elnin, but if this gem is the cause of the trouble then i fear it is the only option."

Suddenly a hush came over the inn, Anya moved her head around, confused. She didn't know it, but the inn had gotten dark, the fire's that lit the place flickering. Shadows swirled by their table forming into a man.
The man stood at 6ft 4in, and had long black hair which covered part of his face. His piercing golden eyes flashed as the shadows withdrew some, and the light in the inn returned to normal. He brushed himself off, then sat in a chair on the other side of Anya. He looked around the room at the quiet patrons, and gave a bright smile. The patrons who had been staring at him looked away, and noise started to rise again as the patrons started to talk among themselves again. Durg looked at the people sitting at the table, noting the two new faces.
"My my, seems the whispers were true. There is a army of Dark Elves causing trouble." He looked towards Elnin, he had taken quite a liking to the young elf over the years. "I also hear whispers that this army is heading for Nogard. Could this possibly be true?"

He nodded to Durg in greeting and said, “yes. I didn't actually like to believe it, but Anya's visions are true. These dark elves, apparently, are being controlled by some gem that this Mav-whatever has. I never remember his name.”
He had not spoken for a while, waiting for Anya to greet her customer and get back. However, he still looked at this new face out of the corner of his eye as he spoke “So, I just proposed, before you arrived, that I go and take a peek at this gem of his. If I can get a chance to destroy it, I will. If not, I'll know of the size, the guards, when they relax and put their shields down, and I'll get back to you with a plan. Feran here kindly offered to come with me, something I quite appreciate. This means one of us could keep watching this army while the other gets back to deliver the news. Meanwhile, Anya and Gustav,” he indicated the human with his eyes, “could go and ask for help. So, just in case I and Feran fail, there will be a big army in Nogard to greet them. Anya says that Nad is safe. I don't know how, but I believe her. Anya doesn't make assumptions lightly. However, speaking of Nogard and Nad, I think we should know of the protection, so we could figure out a way to get rid of this army.”
He turned to his wife and asked, “this protection that you speak of, can it hold back a third of the dark elf population?” He didn't ask her to reveal the protection and what it was, since he didn't want to push her. If she felt like talking about it, she would.
He looked at Feran and gave him a friendly smile. He had offered to come with him, despite their opposing views. That was a noble act that was not gone unnoticed by Elnin, even though Feran didn't appear to be much enthusiastic about it.

Durg drummed his fingers against the table, mulling over what had been said by Elnin. Anya's visions had proved to be spot on most of the time, it was to bad she didn't have full control over them. He gave a nod of greeting to the other two as Elnin mentioned them. There was no need to fully introduce himself, most knew who he was. His eyes found themselves watching the vampire that had entered, a sight Durg wasn't used to. The vampire in turn seemed to watching them as well, Durg smiled and made a gesture that the vampire should come and join them. The more the merrier, in his point of view.

He straightened his back and licked his chapped lips. He would not sit by and allow this to happen. He had caused so much death since his transformation. So much pain. Even now, he only remained living in the memory of his sister, Mia. He waited for the others to come to a pause before speaking. "I wish to join you," He said boldly.

Durg gave a smile "Good for you lad! The more help these delightful people get, the better! Right, Anya my dear?" Anya simply gave him her version of a glare. Durg smiled wider "So then, what are our current standings? Elnin and Feran are galloping off towards my part of the world. While Anya and Gustav go in search for more helpers.... Seems to me that this fine lad here needs a job as well no?"

“I'm Elnin,” he began, then continued, “this is my wife Anya that you've met, this is Gustav, and this is Feran.” He indicated each of them with his gaze as he introduced them.
He paused to let this information sink in, then said to Durg, “you know, I think knowing the state of the army that is approaching Nad would be quite helpful. The thing is, we could set up a hasty plan, just to prevent the defences here from breaking, or make it easier for the defences to hold. For example, my archer friends could set their supply wagons on fire with arrows, or pick them off from behind. Since they are charmed, their only strength lies in brute force. With some tactics, we could stop them from even reaching Nad, let alone testing the limits of our defences. After all, we need to have a plan in case we fail to get this gem.”
