Introduction

(Based around 28 Days Later, the brilliant horror directed by Danny Boyle, however you don't need to have any knowledge of the movie to RP this, I just want to give due credit to it, because it's awesome.)

It started about a month before, well, in truth things had been building up to it for some time before. Like many terrible things, it began with good intentions. It started as a project to try and eliminate human aggression supposedly, an inhibitor of violent impulses. It was placed in a genetically modified form of the ebola virus...something that was extremely virulent..though supposedly rendered harmless by the alterations. It was tested on laboratory chimpanzees in Cambridge, hoping that it would eliminate their naturally aggressive tendencies...but the researchers had underestimated the virus' ability to mutate. The subjects became incredibly violent shortly after the introuduction of the inhibitor. Efforts were made to try and create some sort of cure for it...but before they could...good intentions went awry again.

A group of animals rights activists, seeking to free the captive chimpanzees, broke into the laboratory to let them out. Within moments one of the chimps had laughed itself at one of the intruders, biting her repeatedly. After getting it off her she continued to scream, eyes turning a deep, sickly red. Blood began to pour from her mouth. It was the advent of RAGE.

From there, it spread extremely fast. The symptoms came on shockingly fast, in under a minute after exposure..and was transferable by the smallest about of body fluid. One drop of blood ingested, in the eye, or through an open wound was enough to doom a person. What happened next was nightmarish by any stretch. The eyes of the infected became red, seeping blood with tiny pupils and a vacant stare. They began to bleed from the mouth almost constantly. The worst part however...was the anger. The Infected would be overcome with a terrible rage, a drive to kill any living thing in the vicinity, and spread the infection otherwise. If one got loose in a crowd after infection, they could spread the virus to hundreds within minutes.

The United Kingdom fell very quickly. It started in the smaller towns, whole places left wiped out. Quickly it spread to the cities, and panic set in. People rushed to leave the country, to flee to mainland Europe and possible salvation on the other side of the channel, but it was more than most forms of transport could handle. The crowds of desperate people around the airports and ferry ports attracted Infected and potential escape routes turned into bloodbaths. Planes took off and never returned. Those still left in the country were left to try and fend for themselves. The military tried to defend areas for a time...but soon even they fell to the Infected.

A month has passed since the first human infection, and scant reports have arisen of infections in Paris and New York, though from the near-deserted cities and towns of Great Britain, it is hard to tell. The television statiosn stopped broadcasting weeks ago...and the radio signals went quiet one by one...except for one. The sound of a recorded message, playing over and over again, promising safety at a blockade north of Manchester.

A few desperate survivors, scattered around the city of London. Some have heard the single call over the airwaves..others are more concerned with trying to survive in this new and dangerous landscape of empty streets and wandering infected. They're the ones left behind, forsaken by the rest of the population to a terrible death on the infected island...they're hardly the luckiest of folk...but if they have any luck left...if there is any cosmic kindness...they will find each other.

Rules

1) No godmoding/powerplaying/ general irritating tomfoolery like tha.

2) Be at least civil in your OOC.

3) No chatspeak, abbreviations like OOC, BIC, BRB, ROFLCOPTER are fine, but if you start posting like:
'she wnt alng da rd 2 da shp 4 sum beenz.' then it starts getting silly.

4) I don't really care about gender ratios to be honest. I#m pretty sure the apocalypse wasn't keeping tally to make sure it claimed an equal number of males and females. It would be nice to get a bit of diversity in character types. Some tough ones, cowardly ones, about to crack and knife everyone in their sleep ones etc.

5) Be aware of the plot and setting and put your character in that context. They're regular people, they can't all be super-soldiers, and if every character shows up armed to the teeth in armored cars wearing kevlar body armor...it's not going to be very tense is it?

6) ROmance, fine, but keep it sensible and don't let it grind the plot to a halt. When you're in constant danger wandering off to hold hands with your luvvy bunny or angsting about how the guy with the machete will never understand your feelings for him is generally non-compatible with life.
