Introduction

Welcome to the beautiful kingdoms of Animalia, a world where size matters.
There is a change shifting in the Carnivarian lands. Those who normally called the barren wastes home are now shunted about under the new command of the fabled Carnivarian king, Claw. His rules, join or exile. The displacement has sent many carnivores from their homes, north to whatever lies there or south into the other nations where they are hated.

Herbivaria
Herbivaria is a peaceful place inhabited by mammals and avians all brought together to seek peace and safety. Herbivaria is covered in enormous trees that extend far into the sky and sparce areas with plentiful room for farmland between the overhead shade. Unfortunately their lands are constantly plagued by the vicious clan tribes of Carnivaria who often make vicious raids into the peaceful nation. As such a strong military stands to face the physically superior foes and the way of the sword and bow is wide spread. Most houses in Herbivaria are underground or in the tree tops to help evade the dangerous raiders. To the east lies the Insectum Queendom, to the north Carnivaria, to the south and west are The Waters. The lands are protected by a mighty board king, Grandson of the inventor of the tusk-sling.

Carnivaria
Vicious beasts roam these lands, in clan tribes or alone. Their superior size and natural weaponry makes them deadly. In addition, they only feed on flesh and will hunt the innocent HErbivarians to sate their hunger without mercy. The many inhabitants of Carnivaria extend from the vicious Wolf Clan and the heartless eagle loners who sweep from the skies. There is a fabled ruler of the savage lands, a mighty Lion who is known only as Claw. The lands are often brutal with tall long grass as the only form of plant life other then a sparse tree. Large cliffs allow the predators to overlook their potential prey.

Insectum Queendom
Insectum is the second most civilised of lands holding a wide array of relationships between the many creatures who inhabit the often hot and humid jungle lands. While the land holds more vibrant and lively plants, it also is less naturally friendly being home to merciless pits of goop, dangerous poisons and even plants that eat animals instead of the other way around. Some insects who live there have a very friendly relationship with each other, working proactively in peace, while others of the lower species feed from one another as mercilessly as the Carnivarians. The peace held in the Insectum Queendom is always tenuous, at best. At the top of the Insectum Queendom is one called Queen, a being summoned by several Insectum leaders to establish a wider control over the lands. They manage all hive colonies from termites to bees. They are the first line between other nations and the Badlands and would certainly be one of the most dangerous if ever fully united due to their massive numbers. The Insectum Queendom is often considered less civilised then the Herbivarian, due to their closeness and kinship to nature and using their bodies to blend in.

The Badlands
The Badlands span the entire length of Herbivaria and Insectum, cut off from the former only by a large body of water. The badlands house the most vicious of creatures who will often venture into the other lands without fear. Everyone knows the terrible tales of the snakes hiss before devouring its victims alive, or of the webs of the spiders and their venomous bites. There is no reason to head out to the Badlands and thus they are avoided. There has never been any form of organisation from the Badlands.

The Waters
The waters contain many incredibly creatures, but are in truth no one would be foolish enough to go there. The Waters to the west (Ocean) are home to the deadly eel, octopus or even just fish big enough to eat mammals, but also have the most abnormal of plant life known as coral. Many smaller fish use the coral to protect themselves from fatal encounters. The Waters to the south (River) are full of mostly peaceful herbivores who live amongst reeds and algae. However, it is not uncommon for an amphibian to cross these waters and cause troubles, nor is the water safe from larger fish who might try to likewise eat an innocent being whole. The most peaceful of fish maintain friendship with Herbivaria, but naturally are unable to come to land.

The Burnt Strip
A strip of land stretches between Herbivaria and the Insectum Queendom. For some reason, nothing will grow there. Many stories are told of how ancient mages ripped the lands apart with their terrible spells, but in truth they sapped up all the life energy in a strip for a long forgotten purpose. As such, no life remains there in the constantly ash covered ground.

Rules

IC Topic

Animals
Mammals
Mammals can walk on all fours or on two legs. Weapons for mammals are designed for paws/hands/feet to slip inside like a glove with a blade extending from the top. Carnivores must eat meat only. Omnivores can eat vegetables only, but will grow weaker. If you choose such a creature, you will have to deal with the penalty. Most herbivores are roughly the size of a rabbit, be they smaller or larger (this includes giraffes, zebras and elephants). Carnivores are slightly larger and rarely have armour or weapons due to their natural weapons.

Birds
Birds generally speaking walk on two legs. Some are capable of floating or swimming and most are able to fly. Like with mammals, if birds are carnivorous, they must eat meat somewhere. This goes for owls and birds of prey. Herbivores will be upsized or downsized to that of a rabbit. Carnivores will remain roughly the same size (and capable of picking up the herbivores).

Insects
Insects are all upsized to that of a rabbit, though they vary due to their actual size (Stick insects are taller, fleas smaller, rhinocerous beetles bulkier etc). They often come with their own natural armours (exoskeleten) and weapons (jaws), and usually do not have equipment as a result. Some insects are capable of flight. Carnivorous insects or ones that require blood are tolerated by the Insectum Kingdom, but not elsewhere. Within the Insectum Kingdom they are considered dangerous and generally avoided due to their cannabalistic nature.

Arachnids
Due to a change in the RP, spiders and scorpions are now allowed, but they are just as large as most other creatures.

Amphibians
Hated carivores, but now allowed to play, like the arachnids.

Reptiles
Reptiles are a no go. They are big, nasty and live in the savage lands. Most reptiles are enormous, big enough to swallow whole a carnivore. Snakes and the mythic crocodile are the largest.

Fish
Also not allowed, as they are waterbound and unplayable.

Crustaceans
Be wary before choosing one of these because while they are allowed, if they require meat they require meat and they are expected to be about as effective on land as you'd expect. Also must be able to go on lands.

When choosing your animal please take into account size. A mosquito the size of other creatures is going to require a lot of blood.
Edit: Animals are not anthropomorphic/furry (they don't naturally walk on two legs, it is rather awkward for them and is only used to allow them to raise their weapons).
Edit: Half breed creatures (like a Liger) are doomed to the same fate they are in reality.
Edit: The plot will be revolving around Herbivaria. It is preferred that players make herbivores of either mammals, birds or insects.

Deities
Traea - God of the forest, plants and fertility. Traea is the most widely worshipped god in Herbivaria, being the provider of their homes and food.
Skreul - God of death or war. Prayed to be some warriors, more widely worshipped in the Insect Queendom for death. Worshipped mostly by the Carnivarians as their war deity though traditionally he stood as the god who guides the dead to the after life.
Raxsis - God of destruction. Known as the god who brings rain and fire. Is widely hated by most creatures for the pain and suffering they bring.
Shillis - God of wisdom and provider of knowledge. Most magi (those who believe in the gods. Those who do not claim they do for fear of persecution) foolishly pray to this god, not understanding the relationship between gods and magic. This is the god who gave most beings sentience.
Gorin - God of strength and creation. The fabled 'father' of the gods, though in truth he is an entirely equal brother to them. The concept of Gorin being a father of the gods came from his trait of being the creator of living things.
Axhul - Traitor god. The god who brought magic to the hands of mortals. His body was sealed within the sun and his soul within the moon. The people of Animalia believe he is the god of evil and darkness, though he is the god of light and stars. Evil magi worship Axhul.

Class relevent
Equipment
Equipment is a difficult subject. Melee weapons can be used, but are designed for small paws, mostly, thus elephants and similar creatures cannot use them. Hooved creatures can. The weapons are designed so that instead of a handle there is metal sleeve which has been crafted so that a paw or hoof can be inserted, and a strap to keep them in place. The weapons can then be walked on like a shoe with a blade extending from it, or wielded like a normal weapon. The alternative is avian weaponry, light and very sharp, wielded beneath the wing. Ranged weapons are in short supply, the most common being the sling, which is used to hurl spears or rocks. Slings are used purely by drawing them limb back as far as a person can and swinging forward, as otherwise the creatures are usually unable to throw anything. Alternative weapons like spiked sheathes have been made for tusks and horns.

Edit: Slings can be used, with a sheath in one paw/hoof like an ordinary weapon, then drawn back in the mouth of the user. They are not very powerful, but can be an effective deterrent against more frail opponents.

Armour is very very rare, given only to the greatest of warriors as it must be custom for each individual and made from metal. Helmets and shields are much more common, the shields having a leg slipped through a strap. Helmets are usually a slightly curved metal dish with no front to allow for the many variations of faces the wearers might have.

Edit: Bags are usable, made from plants either grown on farms or taken from the natural flora. They are light and usually not meant to carry much.

Gods Favour
Those who pray to the gods of the land and stay devout will be granted appropriate boon. The gods will often give small favours to the loyal who ask be they priest or warrior. These gifts take the form of giving undiscovered strength or power from the gods, such as wings of which to fly with. It also allows for healing as only the gods know all creatures. However, the gods stand by that no being should wield their power and if called upon will destroy all life energy based magic (known as killing magic to them) be it cast by friend or foe.

Edit: This magic will be relative to the worshipped god, however all gods can grant lesser blessings of strength, healing, restoration (the opposite to life energy) and inspiration.

Life Energy
All things in the world have life energy. One can tap into the source of their life energy and the life energy of the world around them to create what they will. Life energy can do practically anything when it comes to creation or destruction, however it desperately relies on knowledge. For example, to heal a person their anatomy must be known and to summon lightning storm clouds will usually be summoned as lightning is electrons, but knowledge of such things doesn't exist. Essentially, they will replicate the conditions of which something is created. As such, knowledge is the most valuable resource of a mage, each one spending most of their life comitting to memory how things work and fit together. However, this magic steadily kills all things drawn upon, lessening their lifespan and making them grow weaker. While a mage doesn't have to sacrifice much of their own life energy (using the area around them instead), it will always eventually have an effect.

Racism
The world is full of different species. Racism is a prevalent factor. Within even their own lands of Herbivaria, most creatures have shown to be racist to others, mammals and birds to each other, Herbivarians to insects, even a lesser hatred of certain species like rat. Insects are the most accepting of all species, though its more tolerance then outright acceptance. Still, no one truly likes an outsider, so those from other nations are generally given wide space and watched cautiously by parents who quickly tuck their children into safe places.

Rule of Adjustment
The rule of adjustment for this roleplay goes as follows: If it cannot possibly exist in this world in its appropriate size category then it will be modified or altered slightly to suit. For example, an ant eater cannot eat ants, so instead they would be described as a herbivore that eats necter/honey etc. If there is anything in this roleplay you're not sure about please question it so any concerns or errors can be sorted out.

No godmodding, proper english etc. Pretty standard stuff. If you didn't tl;dr the rest, you should probably already know all this.

This is an entirely serious roleplay. It was not intended to be cute or a joke, just interesting. If it seems confusing and you're not sure what to do for a character but you would like to be a part of it, PM me, make a post in the OOC or view the 'Tim the Duck' example character. I figure it will need some explaining.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

He's slightly bigger then most herbivarians. As a standard, carnivores are, because they're predators and so on.

Half breeds generally speaking can't breed, and won't get a happy epilogue of retiring with and having kids.

But hey, with this new carnivore plot, a happy ending looks unlikely.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Seirei: Yeah, Veil is a Black colored Panther. I can't remember just how big he is using the size rules for this Role Play, but I don't think he's full sized.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

... a jumping spider can jump about 80 times its own body length. Someone make one!

By the by, what exactly do you mean by

Edit: Half breed creatures (like a Liger) are doomed to the same fate they are in reality.

Seeing as how we have a wolfdog healthily sailin' the seas.

Oh and a question to whoever created Veil - is he a panther or what?

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Just a heads up.

We're looking carnivore heavy so the original plot I had planned is being changed to something else, to suit. I'm going away for a couple of days around new years, but when I come back I'll start everything, hopefully with a new plot ready. Until then, there's no rush to make your character, you have a few days.

In addition, arachnids and amphibians are now available to play.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Hello Vio-Lance! Yeah, we meet again! ^w^

Hmm... Probably I will make a character. Sure it's a Wolf again! ^w^
Ah, Patch! Since u're a mentor i will really need to concentrate on this thread.

Please, I asked for the guidance. -_-

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Ah. Okay, I understand now. I'll have a character up by today. Not sure when; work is somewhat of a hinderance to these things, you know.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Sorted. Checking out your character now.

And yeah, approved.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Alrighty, making a character then!

(P.S. Could you edit the link to the roleplay back into the first post? I'm not very good at navigating this site yet :s)

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Okay, I've made some corrections and clarifications.

Stated the plot. Please look through for where I've jabbed in 'Edit:'.

One thing worth noting is bows and slingshots. While they are impractical when used alone (awkward to use and lacking strength), they can be used with a creature like a boar, placed between the tusks and drawn back by a second creature to be quite a dangerous weapon.

Also, racism was brought up. Yes, there is racist tension between the nations. I'm making a small paragraph for it now which is short says 'yes, Herbivarians are racist even to each other, but the insects are very tolerant'.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Okay, Seirei, very good questions.

The story, at least the starting point, is meant to be about Herbivarians being sent to the insect lands to investigate 'something' that has been occuring there. I have a plot path planned out roughly (roughly enough to allow for the plot to flow but with room for change/error). Unfortunately, I kind of made the big mistake of not mentioning this anywhere in the damn RP.

Animals don't have to be combat capable, as sometimes the best defense is running up a tree. But players must be aware that sometimes they will be in a combat situation and its up to them to fight or flight. If you submit a character I will try find them a significant role as we move on through the story, as that's what I'm meant to do.

Had to look up what a syrinx was. For the sake of keeping things flowing, we'll assume any creature that can talk can sing. The idea is to keep it as close to biologically accurate as possible, but allow for exceptions to let the world flow and make sense.

Vio-Lance, also a good question and something I left out. You're making an animal with sentience and the ability to talk, no more. They are not anthropomorphic (as in, they don't naturally stand upright), but for the sake of convenience I have stated that mammals can stand upright to use their weapons awkwardly. I'm beginning to think it would have just been fine without.

Animals as a general rule will look like their real life counterparts. Now I need to go alter the rules and fix things up.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Question, does the animal have to look exactly like the animal in real life? Or could it be weird or exotic colors? Just asking for my character since I need to find a name that suits it.

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Hello again, WolfHikari!

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Now I started to think on joining... O_O

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

I'm very interested, but very confused as well. Mostly about character creation. Even after looking at the sample profile, I'm still a little unsure of what I'm supposed to be crafting the character to be like. Am I crafting a character that is an animal with human qualities, dare I say the word "Furry", or am I simply creating an animal with somewhat cartoony assosiation with humans, like....I..dunno, Tom and Jerry, or something like that?

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

I'm interested in making a character, but what will the story be, though? Animalistic interrelationships in a functional society, or are the lands being invaded by the Badlands? Must an animal be combat-capable to play a significant role in this RP?

EDIT: Additionally, how biologically accurate must this be? I imagine all animals will be able to talk for the sake of storytelling, but will birds without a syrinx be able to sing?

Re: [OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Whoa! Animalia! Tell me when it is ready! ^w^
Uhh, I won't RPing in here... just tracking to read the stories.

[OOC] Kingdoms of Animalia

Wow, first RP and I immediately forget the one most important major detail. Now to answer any questions.
