"Would you like to see my mask?"
Name:
Dr. Jonathan Crane
Age:
31
Villain/Occupation:
Villain, known as the "Scarecrow".
Gender:
Male
Appearance:
His usual self: Crane is thin, horribly so, but a bit above average height, with black hair and prominent cheekbones. He wears glasses, though it is rumoured that he might not actually need them, as he sometimes take them off and seems to be able to see perfectly without.
In costume He wears a burlap sack mask, crudely stitched together to resemble the head of a scarecrow. The rest is mostly his usual clothing, mostly the suits he used to wear.
Personality:
An arrogant intellectual, at his best. Even though he's obsessed with the effects of fear to the point of insanity, Crane still has a need to prove himself smarter than anyone else, often by running his own diagnosis of the crazies, acting like he's still a psychiatrist at Arkham, even though he's an inmate these days. He talks in a calm manner, always making it sound like he's talking about his day rather than explaining what he just poisoned you with, and what effects it'll have on your body.
There's the slightest chance that he suffers from some sort of schizophrenia, as he does not always respond to his usual name - rather wanting others to refer to him as "Scarecrow". It is during these episodes that his behaviour is at its most eccentric, as he becomes much more violent and manic than his usual behaviour. One may still recognize the intellectual within, however, even though he's taking a bit of a vacation, letting the homicidal maniac take over for a small while.
Likes:
Psychology, intellect, fear, masks, being better.
Dislikes:
Batman, stupid people, crows, rice pudding and know-it-alls.
History:
His father abandoned him and his mother simply didn't care. Young Dr. Crane was taken in by his strict grandmother, who tormented him with trained crows at the slightest error. This led to his severe ornithophobia, which fixates mainly on crows. To exacerbate his already wounded psychological state, Jonathan was antagonized by his classmates for his gangly frame and bookish nature. He went on to murder his grandmother and later bring a gun to senior prom, whilst dressed as his alter-ego "Scarecrow".
Dr. Crane went on to become a psychology professor at Gotham University, but he was suspended due to his eccentric behaviour (e.g. pulling a gun on students to demonstrate a theory).
He later became a well-renowned psychologist, specializing in fear. He was undeniably corrupt, working for a man named Ra's Al Ghul, developing and testing a type of fear toxin that he later aided in spreading all across Arkham Island. Due to heavy exposure to his own “medicine”, he went insane during the very same attack (ahem, insane-er) and was admitted to Arkham after Batman saved the day.
