"Positive! Those bastards doesn't even know what the hell a gun is. Intelligence suggests that the rebels we will attack is a mixture of...Halves and elves, so there will most likely be guns at wherever we are headed," the sergeant replied confidently and Holt nodded.
"Very well."
"Hey, Captain, you know a lot about the secret ops that the military does...Is it true that the military has planted orbital stations armed with nukes in space? Why the heck have soldiers when we can nuke them all?" one of the soldiers asked.
"The elves has more resources than we do, and as you know a bit too well, we need them more than the elves does; if we nuke the hell out of the elves we win, big time...However we also loose something which we could have gained," Holt explained and the soldier said a 'Oh...Right,' as he realized that.
"Alright men...05:10. Here we go!" Holt said, and the door was opened and the black hawks landed on the ground, a good deal past the beach, the soldiers jumped out and quickly surveyed the area with their thermal scopes and then made it for the forests.
"Pick up in at 18:30. The beach, don't be late!" the pilot called to Holt before he jumped out as well.
"Into the forest," Holt ordered and the men made their way towards the forest, one or two soldiers running besides Kanade, to make sure she too came along with the soldiers.
"Alright, men, listen we-" Holt said, however he stopped as he stepped in a large puddle of water and then began to survey this 'forest' he had directed his men into. "Where the hell is the forest?" It was true, there was no forest, the thing that Holt had led his men into was more like a swamp, with small paths, and loads of water.
Holt turned and looked at the anti-elf unit, who was equally silent. "Well? What is this James?"
"I have read that the elves could manipulate the nature, but I had no idea that...This was possible."
"How old were those orbital pictures anyway?"
"A few weeks old. Seems like the elves knew we were coming...Well, lets not disappoint them," Holt said and then quickly barked a single order that all the soldiers knew, "Adapt!"
The soldiers' former uniform that was designed to deal with forests were quickly made muddy as the soldiers smudged out the colors with the mud there was, they planted a few plants on their body so they could mix in with their new terrain. Soon the colors of their former green uniform was replaced with a muddy gray color that canceled out the green.
"North-West. Thirteen clicks, or thirteen kilometers, lets get going boys!" Holt ordered, and two of the scouts ran ahead of the main platoon, while the main army formed a single line file that marched at a good pace, armed and ready.
Kanade was led up to the front with Holt and his two sergeants. "so alchemist, lets see what you can do," Holt said.
The march wasn't particular brutal, with the scouts ahead of them and a clear link between them they had a clear signal for where they were suppose to go, and since James, their anti-elf soldier insisted that the elves didn't have any form of way to hack into their lines, they didn't have to worry about their lines being listened, or tapped. It was awkward for Holt to have so much freedom when it came to the elves, as he had been trained knowing that the enemy was able to do similar things to the humans.
"What about the rebels? Didn't you say they could have guns? Why not something similar?" Holt asked.
"Point proven...Though I doubt it," sergeant James said.
"I'm glad I'm the leader..I think, unlike you...You and your specialization with elves...You don't know shit."
"I love you too captain."
"Captain....We have engaged...Scouts. Elves. Neutralized, half a click from your current position, over," one of the scouts called over the radio.
"Stay put, we will be there shortly. Stay sharp," Holt answered, and shortly after the conversation, they met up with the two scouts who looked down on an elf with a hole of a small soccer ball in it's chest.
"Good thing we had silencers on. Else the hole swamp would have heard us," one of the scouts said.
"Were there any animals nearby?"
"None that we saw," the scout answered.
"Why?" Holt asked
"Some reports suggests that animals and elves work together, in fact it is a standard procedure to ask this."
"Very well. Alchemist, prepare to roast any bird you see swarming above us," Holt ordered and then they continued to the march.
"Cave spotted. We have the needed information, captain," it sounded over the radio, after another good hour's march, and Holt ordered his men for a hold, before they would attack the cave. As the scouts returned they briefed about the defenses of the cave.
"Alright...There are a few more scouts around the cave, some have cats, others have birds. None of them has seen us. At the mouth of the cave, there are half-breeds, they have set up a good defense, however they had a flaw in their plan.
They stacked up bags of sand and created a good bunker, however, they haven't made a single form of protection for their chest and above...So, they would most likely survive a direct assault, however, sniper fire would take them out. One shot, one kill. There was one human officer, obviously an exile, so that's where they have gotten this idea of defense. Besides that, we can't see much more, captain, the rest is underground, and we will have to be careful."
Holt nodded as he looked down on there very, very rough sketch the scouts gave him, through using a stick and the muddy ground, "Here's the plan. We take out their scouts, all soldiers from now on silence their weapons-" Holt ordered and the soldiers placed silencers on their weapons-"Followed by that, you five will take out their major defense at the mouth of the cave. Once that is done, we will enter the cave, there will be no connection, so no point in trying to have com down there, so one com unit and four scouts stay behind and guard the mouth. No retreat men.
We will enter the cave and start our original plan. Search and destroy. What weapons these rebels have in store, we do not know, however...Remember, we are against half-breeds, so there could be some magic, and most likely loud gun fire. Neutralize at will, and Kanade...For the full destruction of the cave, we will need some of your powers. I doubt we have enough explosives with us to blast a hole cave back to the stone age. Any questions?"
