Introduction

Manhattan's Social Elite

The Plot:
New York is the city that never sleeps. Known for its skyscrapers, tourist attractions, commercial, financial and cultural centers, it's a place where there's always something to do, and things never get boring. Although its a city that has an allure to it, regardless of whether you're living in a tiny studio apartment, or a penthouse overlooking Central Park, there's no denying that everyone would prefer the latter over the former. Even those living on a budget in Manhattan are probably wealthier than the average American living elsewhere, but those who qualify as being wealthy in New York are on an entirely different level of wealthy than those labeled as it in other places. Manhattan's upper class citizens are a type all of their own, and though their money sets them apart (and above) the rest, it doesn't come without a price, even for the children of those wealthy New Yorkers. Drama seems to run rampant in these crowds, and the students at two of the most exclusive private schools in New York, Constance Billard School for Girls, and St. Jude's School for Boys, lead the pack when it comes to this. Some love the drama, and others want nothing more than to avoid it all costs, but almost everyone seems to agree that it's hard to look away when things start going down. There's some sort of appeal to the drama, and when one person realized this, they capitalized on it by creating an undercover alias, known only as Gossip Girl. If anything worth knowing about occurs in the Upper East Side, you can bet that she'll be the first to know about it, and the first to share it with the rest of the world too.

It appears as if no one is safe from her wrath, which only seems to increase her appeal, since even those at the top of the social ladder are susceptible to being brought back down to earth with a few taps on a keyboard -- and while it's all fun and games to read about everyone else's drama, it definitely adds an extra layer of stress and challenge to the already difficult life of a high school junior. Since there's no indication that Manhattan's most notorious anonymous blogger is going away any time soon, though... let the fun and games begin, and just hope that your secrets don't end up plastered on her page any time soon.

The Rules:
I won't bore you guys with too many rules, since I think we (hopefully) all understand basic internet etiquette by now. The biggest ones that I want to stress, though, are:
  • You must be active! If you won't be able to post once every three days at least, please don't join. Occasional exceptions are fine, but if you're the one person who people are constantly waiting on, that's not gonna fly. There have probably been a million of this themed roleplay before, but they all die out within a few posts because people disappear immediately. This is not the version for that. Please don't join if you know that your "real" life is crazy right now, or will be (ex. if you have a busy school semester coming up. It gets to a point where it's just disrespectful to join things and disappear, wasting everyone else's time in the process, so please don't be that person.
  • Writing 300 words with decent grammar/spelling isn't asking for much. Please consider that the minimum.
  • Not all characters need to be rich. It will be interesting if some are economically disadvantaged and attending the private schools on scholarships. Following on this, please don't make any celebrity characters. Some may have famous relatives, which is fine to an extent, but I'd prefer to not have any characters who are being followed by paparazzi, or have that level of fame. Like the Gossip Girl show that this is based off of, most of the characters have wealthy and powerful parents, but fame isn't a primary factor there and I think it'll distract from the story.
  • If you want to take two characters, please make sure at least one is a male.
  • There are no reservations. Competition for roles is welcomed and encouraged. Please have character sheets finished within 5 days.
  • predictmeifyoucan is helping me run this, so if you have any questions or, issues or suggestions, feel free to PM either of us.
  • This is going to be an easy-going, character driven, and fun roleplay, so please just respect your fellow roleplayers, make an effort to form an interesting story, and we should be all good :D.

The A-listers
ImageThe King Bee
Status: Taken by BurningBridges

He was never the type of person who made it a goal to be the most popular person on campus. While he certainly basks in his own arrogance from time to time, he's not that self-absorbed or superficial to have ever cared about the social ladder that much. He would be the first person to insist that it was mere luck that got him where he is. Of course, that isn't the case though. Ending up with good genetics was luck, sure, but it's not only the girls that he's popular with. The King Bee is the guy that everyone wants to be because almost everything seems to come naturally to him. He's sociable with his peers, and also with parents, teachers, or adults that need impressing. He's good at sports, does decently in school (though test answer keys from The Entrepreneur definitely help there), and manages to maintain an enviable social life on top of that. The power and admiration definitely get to his head sometimes, there's no denying that the feeling of invincibility has left him acting callously towards people he thinks are disposable, and he's always had a hushed reputation of having a scary short temper when he's drunk, but he wouldn't be The King Bee if even after his flaws, he was still more likable than not.
ImageThe Queen Bee
Status: Taken by StarStruck

She's the girl that everyone else wants to be. She's the epitome of perfection, at least in the eyes of her fellow high school students, and it's not like she hasn't worked for her spot at the top. She prides herself in being the total package: beautiful, intelligent, athletic, and well-respected. She thrives on power and takes her social standing and image very seriously. Some claim that the only person who isn't intimidated by her is Gossip Girl. Then again, she's done a decent job so far at keeping her own secrets and scandals so secret, that even Gossip Girl hasn't been able to get any major dirt on her yet. With her seemingly perfect relationship with The King Bee crumbling more and more as each day passes, and her interest in keeping it up just for appearance sake disappearing even faster, it's hard to say whether her perfect image will stand this year. She's always been the girl to take a lot on, just to prove that she's better than everyone else and can handle the pressure, and since she does such a good job at painting the image of living a perfect life, it really does appear like she is the picture perfect Queen Bee. Of course, what the world sees isn't always reality, but she'll be damned if she lets something she worked so hard on fall that easily.
ImageThe Drama Queen
Status: Taken by BurningBridges

The Drama Queen is probably one of the nicer names for this girl, since drama is sometimes an understatement for just how dramatic, emotional, and self-centered she can be. The fact that she’s The Queen Bee’s best friend, and also has a lovable and contagious energy on her better days doesn’t make her the worst person in the world, but even if you didn’t know her personally, spending only a few minutes with her will probably allow you to see that she’s never had to work for anything in her life. While one would think that her secret, years long battle with an eating disorder would be her biggest concern lately, she’s been struggling more and more every day with a different issue: her sexuality.

ImageThe Charmer
Status: Taken by Lilac

Even he'd be lying if he said he didn't understand his own appeal. You don't have to be totally self absorbed to realize your own effect on people, and the truth of the matter is that The Charmer is well, just that. Being plagued by not having friends or going to parties, or never having enough girls are your disposable is a foreign language to him. It's always been easy for him to make friends and get with girls and to get his own way. Being so popular and alluring probably seems like a dream to many, but there does come a point where all the relationships become diluted and you end up wanting a little more out of them. All the perks of being The Charmer are starting to lose their appeal, but he's not sure he's ready to sacrifice them just yet.
ImageThe Overachiever
Status: Taken by AzizaRose

Being at the top of her class isn't something that comes naturally to her. It takes a lot of hard work, time, and effort, but she always comes out on top. She wouldn't have it any other way. Of course, with such high standards set for herself by herself, and also by her parents, who won’t be able to send her to college (at least not a private college, like all of the ones she's vying for are) due to financial constraints, comes a lot of pressure and stress. While it always seems like she has everything held together perfectly on the outside, everything is much less organized on the inside. She's quickly becoming overwhelming with maintaining her 4.0, her squeaky clean image, and the many friendships that she has, due to her typically friendly personality. It's only a matter of time before she messes up somewhere, and with so much going on in her life right now, she's scared to even imagine where that "somewhere" might be.
ImageThe Sweetheart
Status: Available

In a dog-eat-dog world, everyone can appreciate someone who always manages to have a smile on their face. He's the type of guy who will listen to anyone's problems and offer the best advice that he can think of, regardless of how close they are. He's genuine and one of those people who typically truly mean the best in their interactions. Does it sometimes make him feel like he's a doormat that people walk all over, and use at their convenience without considering that he has feelings and problems as well? Absolutely. Is that going to stop him from continuing to help those same people? If his track record speaks to the answer, then probably not. Recently becoming plagued with his own overwhelming ____ issues, it's becoming harder and harder for him to continue to be a support system for everyone else without any support of his own.
ImageThe Traitor
Status: Available

She wouldn't call herself a traitor, but she knows that if anyone else knew that she had slept with The King Bee while knowing good and well that's he's dating The Queen Bee, one of her supposed best friends, then they all would. In her defense, she knew that The Queen Bee's relationship with The King Bee was at one of its weaker points at that time, but that probably still doesn't excuse exploiting that fault to create a love triangle. Maybe though, she could be cut some slack if that was her only move of betrayal lately. The fact that she leaked a few sensitive things about her friends to Gossip Girl over the past year would make her a traitor in all of their eyes if they were ever to find out. It's surprising though, because most of the time, she really isn't a bad friend. It's just... she struggles with issues. Jealousy is definitely one of them. It's not like The Queen Bee didn't know that she had a crush on The King Bee for their entire childhood, and that she was planning on making a move on him, right when The Queen Bee decided to make hers years ago. She often feels like the friend who tries hard, but is always unappreciated, and The Sweetheart has listened to oh so many rants on that exact topic. While part of her feels compelled to continue to try to be a good friend despite the unfairness in it,
there's another part of her that wants to throw caution to the wind, and kick up the traitor-like attitude to a new level this year. She's sure that the crown would look just as good on her head, as it does on The Queen Bee's unappreciative one. Hell, it would probably even look better.

The B-listers
ImageThe Leader
Status: Available

For a guy with such an endearing and attractive vibe to him, it’s a wonder that he isn’t considered to be more popular than he is. Then again, this is the upper class world of Manhattan, and not coming from copious amounts of money puts even the most confident and likable people at a disadvantage. The real reason that The Leader isn’t popular, though, probably stems from his own disinterest in popularity. He’s too grounded to care about climbing a silly social ladder, and he’s far more happy being popular within his own crowd, than being a nobody in the “cool” crowd. If anyone knew that he had been hooking up with The Queen Bee all summer, they might be quick to disagree that he truly has no interest in the populars, but that’s something that he’d like to keep under wraps just as much as she does.
ImageThe Bookworm
Status: Taken by Girl2Fine2

Ask anyone who isn't one of her friends and they'd either tell you that they've heard of her and might have seen her around, or they simply just don't if she's a student at Constance because they haven't crossed paths. And for her, that's perfectly okay. She genuinely hates the limelight, the idea of being the center of attention, and to a degree, knows her place. As long as she's still able to hold rank as one of the smartest in her class with one of top GPAs on a transcript, she doesn't need anyone's eyes on her. She has too many expectations from home and in the lifestyle her step-family has her thrust into to be worried about how high she can get up the social ladder. Except, ask her friends and it's honestly about time the girl who can do no wrong stops worrying about what everyone else (including her own flesh and blood) thinks and, well, do some wrong. Preferably get laid, but they'd all take what they can get.

ImageThe Entrepreneur
Status: Taken by Thunder

Call him an entrepreneur, a jack of all trades, or a master of none. Regardless, you'll probably need him at some point. The Entrepreneur is the go to for just about all of your needs. Need a forged doctor's note, drugs, or a fake ID? If you're trying to get into the hottest parties, then he's your guy. With all of his connections, it might seem strange that his social rank isn't higher, but in reality, his business savvy ways are a result of that. The Entrepreneur had never been a part of the inner circle, and quite frankly, was sick of being looked down upon. Sure he may seem a bit seedy, but can you really blaming him for exploiting his resourcefulness? Not only has it made him money, but it has allowed him his own sense of power over some of the kids who normally never would have given him a second glance, especially since his line of work has given him some inside information on their guilty pleasures and drama.
ImageThe Party Animal
Status: Available

He wasn't always such a mess. Before high school, he was actually a part of the A-list, and one of the more popular ones at that. Some of his current wild-child tendencies were there, but many of them formed after his fall from grace, as coping mechanisms. After his father was indicted on multiple counts of embezzlement, he had to deal with losing the security of the high-class lifestyle he was born into, the presence of the man who raised him, and also, nearly all of his friends, many whose parents felt like it wasn't appropriate for their child to still be interacting with the child of a family whose image was tarnished so badly. It was a lot to stomach in a short period of time, and The Party Animal found the best way of coping through drugs, drinking, and sex. He's a player, and not trying to hide that in the slightest. In fact, he doesn't seem to be ashamed of most of his habits. It's something that The Traitor detests, since to this day, he still hangs the fact that they slept together over her head, despite her not wanting anyone to find out. Others, like The Free Spirit, find it enticing in a way, though, and that allure to the careless bad boy image is what The Party Animal thrives off of.
ImageThe Rebel
Status: Taken by BurningBridges

She doesn't fit the typical "rich girl living in the Upper East" image, and she's perfectly fine with that. Actually, that's how she prefers it to be. With The Drama Queen as her twin sister, she realized at a young age that she needed to distinguish herself as an entirely different person, and in doing so, she found that she was far more comfortable with the relaxed person she became, than the prim and proper one her family wanted her to be. Maybe she could have stopped at just distinguishing herself by being the twin who's naturally intelligent and more reserved, but she couldn't. She found herself not only disliking the clean, cookie cutter image that she was expected to uphold since birth, but actually rejecting it. She would never call herself a rebel, but in how open she is in enjoying more weed than she needs on a daily basis, and how nonchalant she is with breaking rules, she probably qualifies as one.
ImageThe Class Clown
Status: Taken by blueiridescence

He's the kind of guy that everyone likes having around, because there's an undeniably amusing, happy, and infectious energy that he carries with him. He may not be every teacher's favorite student, but that doesn't really bother him. He enjoys making his peers laugh, and he appreciates having a reputation that's pretty clean and well-liked, overall. As much as he appreciates comedy, though, he definitely uses it as a mechanism of deflecting his mind, and others, from his more personal problems. If everyone's laughing with him, then no one can be laughing at him, right? Especially in this day and age, being gay or bisexual is a lot more accepted than it used to be, but he's still scared to embrace his sexuality. The fact that his parents are pretty religious and known to be homophobic doesn't help. For a guy who's an open book in nearly every other sense, it's something that he's definitely going to be struggling with this year.
ImageThe Free Spirit
Status: Taken by predictmeifyoucan

With her twin brother being The King Bee, it would seem like she would have a cozy spot right alongside the A-Listers, and at one point, it was something she desired, but not so much anymore. The Free Spirit isn't concerned about hierarchies or titles, at least that's how it seems. Even she can't prevent an eye roll at the ridiculousness she witnesses--when she does. She tends to try to stay out of drama as much as possible, which may make her a bit naive at time. But that doesn't mean she's totally clueless or doesn't glance at Gossip Girl from time to time, and she's not exactly a saint either. The Free Spirit is known for taking restrictions and social queues with a grain of salt. While she doesn't actively seek out breaking the rules, she's not afraid of being the odd one standing out, and appreciates those who don't care either. This is probably why she's so intrigued by The Party Animal. She tries to be kind to just about everyone, but she won't force anything, and she has a quick wit about her. With someone so seemingly carefree and unbothered, it would surprise just about anyone if they were to find out how much she was struggling with loving herself. Her eating disorder surely doesn't help either.

Unlike the rest of us, sex, lies and scandal never take a vacation. Instead, they take the Long Island Expressway and head east, to the Hamptons. Some would say summer is their busiest season. Think Park Avenue, but with tennis whites and ban de soleil. The players change, but the game remains the same. Though school may have started last week for our favorites of the Upper East Side, we all know that summer doesn't truly end until after the annual white party hosted by Bernard Arnault. It's the Met Gala of the summer, and the most exclusive Labor Day party on the island. Didn't get invited? Don't worry, I'm sure you're not the only one. Besides, you know that I'll be there, ready to catch you up on all of the colorful drama that's sure to unfold in this sea of white.

CHARLOTTE ▿ ARNAULT

Outfit
Location: Bedroom
Dialogue Color: #3BAD45
Charlotte wasn't the type to get very excited about parties that involved her family, but she also wasn't dreading today's. Unlike the frequent small dinner parties that her father seemed to enjoy hosting (recently), today's party in the Hamptons was going to be a big one. There were going to be a ton of people, as there was every year, and with it being spread out on their Long Island property, there was less of a chance of her running into her father, stepmother, or sister than there was back in their townhouse in the city. She would still be expected to act in accordance of the formal setting that their party was existing in, but it was understandably much less of a stuffy situation. The same snobby old people that her father socialized with would surely be there, and Charlotte didn't doubt that she would see many of her friends' parents in attendance, but her friends would be there as well, so it evened the playing field substantially. Still, Charlotte wasn't a bubbly and social person, so being expected to mingle with adults who her father insisted she be polite and pleasant to, even intermixed with socializing with her friends, wasn't something that she was thrilled about.

"Oh shit," Charlotte said, laughing to herself. "My text to Naya never went through." She had typed the message into her phone about an hour before, telling her that Alaina had gotten there and that they were going to smoke, but she hadn't actually hit "send" on it. It only really seemed funny now, because Charlotte and Alaina were just about done with smoking, and things just seemed more humorous after a nice smoke. As a sixteen year old, it was risky to be involved in drugs to begin with. It was even more dangerous to be doing them in your father's house, when you knew he was home. Given that their summer house was a nine bedroom home, and that her father was busy making sure everything was perfect for the biggest party he would be hosting all year, Charlotte wasn't worried. She knew that her dad would kill her if he ever caught her smoking weed, but she was just certain enough that he wouldn't, that she only lit a candle and turned on the air purifier in her bedroom before starting to smoke in the attached bathroom with Alaina. As she texted Naya a new message, she continued to speak to Alaina,"Do you think we should get ready now? Actually, wait. I'm soooo fucking hungry, and I don't trust myself eating while wearing white. Let's eat first. Are you hungry?" Charlotte knew that the first floor of her house, specifically the kitchen area, was probably bustling and busy right now. Although the party was supposed to mainly take place outside, she knew that people would be wandering in and out of the house throughout the afternoon to escape the warm weather for some time. Even now, with a few hours until guests started arriving, her house was already occupied by staff, some who had worked for them all summer to keep the house running, and others who were specifically hired for the party to help with everything from landscaping, to serving and mixing cocktails, to preparing and serving food. While Charlotte knew that a plethora of good food would be served throughout the evening, she was hungry now, and she wasn't going to wait a few hours for the many appetizers and hors d'oeuvres that would be served before dinner.

To: Naya
My text to you before didn't go through but Alaina is here! We're gonna eat something! Come steal food from the kitchen with us

After she sprayed herself with perfume, figuring that smelling like she just bathed in Chloé was preferable to possibly passing her father smelling like weed, she slid the bottle towards Alaina in case she wanted any. "Your fam is coming, right?" she inquired. "I know AJ and your sister-in-law will be here," she said, glancing over her shoulder with a playful expression at the reference to Sydney, "But what about the rest?" Though she was purposely being annoying in the comment, if anyone understood the struggle of having a sibling who was involved in that superficial popular crowd, it was Charlotte, so she only dished comments that she could take, herself.

There were a host of variables that played a part in Naya contending with the idea of attending the Arnault party this year. The main one being Gigi. Her aunt had been antsy since her return from her honeymoon and while she was relatively the same over-the-top, lovable aunt that Naya knew best, seeing her so frazzled - particularly over an event that Naya didn't see as that important in comparison to the woman's wedding, which had happened months ago - made Naya amenable. It didn't help that despite the warm reception their family had given, none of her siblings nor her parents were willing to attend such a lavish affair, which meant that Naya had to be the representative for the rest of the family and a sign that there was nothing wrong with Gigi for her family not being involved. Obviously, there was at least one other person in her life, outside of this family she was married into, who supported her. Her grandmother's voice had sounded weak and thready over the phone, which explained their reluctance, but that was something Naya was willing to dissect at a later date.

The most important variable was, well, Naya's own secret desire to attend. The normal Naya would avoid huge events such as these, stray away from situations where she would have to network and socialize and put on a show.It wasn't to say that Naya was a lone wolf or anything like that, but she wasn't cheery and bubbly, and her vivacity only truly emerged in the face of good friends and low-key settings. However, she had Olivia - no, her and Olivia's vlog - to thank for this new insurgence of...want. That was a good word for it. Naya wanted to be better; braver, more confident. Their vlog and fanbase were still growing - and neither had ever even considered a growing fanbase, they had just wanted to make one - but their current followers, and the interactions that emerged with them made Naya read comments she ignored in real life. She was pretty. Personable. A bit of a smart ass on the low. Funny. Things Naya wouldn't normally give herself credit for and she still had a ways to go. Naya was very much still the same girl from before whose nerves presented themselves in self-deprecating thoughts and retreats back to her room or the library instead of putting herself out there, and letting go in the ways a lot of her peers did. But she wanted more than that. And that meant sucking it up and attending a huge party with her step-family at a huge ass house she was never going to get used to, not when she wasn't even used to the townhouse just yet.

Naya had just finished watching the last video that Olivia had uploaded yesterday. There were some edits the more popular girl had done, necessary cuts that she made if it seemed to take up too much time, but their cooking session slash goof-off made Naya smile in remembrance. And it had gotten more likes in the last twenty-four hours than she would have thought. Grinning at the her on the screen who kept poking her finger in the cookie batter bowl, Naya picked up her phone to text Olivia, but also Derek and Cas just in case either of them considered not showing up for the party.

To: Liv
Def luv da vid. N u were right. dis intro is better.

To: D, Cas
No excuses. u both better show up 2day

Just as she was about to put her phone back on its charger and probably find a movie on Netflix, Naya's text tone went off and she flipped through to see it was a message from Charlotte. The best thing that had come out of the marriage - other than Gigi's happiness, of course - was that it meant that Naya was living with one of her good girlfriends. It meant dealing with Adeline too, but having someone in the house who already liked you and with whom you got along was a welcome reprieve from one of the less tolerable interactions Naya had had with the other twin. Naya didn't even bother texting the girl back; she simply slid off of her bed while clutching her phone, slipped into the first pair of flip flops she saw, and headed out of her bedroom and two doors down the hall. Naya knocked twice before opening the door, a raised eyebrow and a small smirk her initial greeting to the two girls occupying the bedroom. "Smells like you two been having a mighty fun time in here," she remarked with a subtle wrinkle of her nose. The smell of marijuana wasn't strong, just lying beneath the subtle layer of vanilla from Charlotte's candle, but after unwittingly receiving contact highs from these two and her own family, Naya recognized the scent very easily.

The Class Clown

Great! The annual Labour Day party that the Arnault's hosted. Normally, Castiel didn't go, but because Naya was now intertwined with the Arnaults, he was required. He had to be there for his best friend. Sighing, he would look towards the mirror in his room, and look at himself. He looked like a thirteen-year old, and that's sad because his ACTUAL thirteen year old brother was nearly taller than him. Freak of nature. Hearing his phone go off, he would pick it up to see a text from Naya. Laughing a bit, he'd send a quick reply.

To: Princess Leia | Naya
why do u hate me, what did i ever do 2 u? i'm kidding tho, be omw in a few gotta make sure mom knows im gone

Moving towards his closet, the male would search for an acceptable outfit. Eventually finding one, the male would simply sigh as he made his way downstairs. As he did, he'd overhear his mother in her office talking to someone, who obviously wasn't his father. Gritting his teeth, he'd deliver a knock on the door, which ended the conversation quick. "Yes?", his mother questioned. "Just letting you know, Adam's at his friends, and Dad's at the church. I'm heading over to the Arnault's for their party, just letting you know I'm gone,
he spoke before exiting the house, not giving his mother a chance to reply. He had a strained relationship with her, especially after he caught her cheating. But that's a different story for today. His dark amber eyes remained focused, as he entered his baby, and would start it. Blaring music played over the stereo as he turned it down to send a quick text to Olivia.

To: The GF | Olivia
pls tell me ur going 2 this party.

Then the idea hit him. He'd be going to be seeing the same person who knew his secret, the only person who he'd ever experimented with sexually (in terms of the female gender). Eyes widening the boy, would begin to drive, gulping down a breath.

Olivia Ingram - location: bedroom - outfit

The bedroom was dim and quiet, save for the sound of consistent typing. Olivia sat in her desk chair, one leg tucked under her while the other one dangled and swayed rhythmically. She was looking at her computer screen, as she had been for the past three hours, doing various odd jobs and surveying the analytics of her and Naya's new video. This particular video had been one of her favorites, although she seemed to think that about every new video. Their content seemed to just keep getting better and better, and their fans were taking notice of that.
Olivia was thankful that she had this new venture to spend time on. She put so much time and thought into the videos, and she could tell that Naya felt the same way. It was comforting, having something that she would get to actually reap the profits of. Most of her work was sent away and she never really saw how it turned out. With this YouTube channel, she was able to see the daily growth of their channel, see how many people they made happy, and actually have fun while making the videos.
buzz buzz
Liv peeked down at her phone, slightly grinning at the two unanswered messages. This past year, Olivia had truly been working on her personal life, especially the balance between her 'real' and 'fake' lives. Although now she couldn't really tell which was real and which was fake. She replied to the two messages.

To: Cass/Honey Bunches of Oats
yes of course my darling. i'll see you there?

Olivia chuckled at her nickname for Cass. She called him by ridiculous couples pet names often, but some of the most common were darling, honey bunches of oats, or babydoll. They were always a joke, but to those who weren't aware of the situation they just looked like a gross lovey-dovey couple.

To: Naya/Chef Nay Nay
i think so too! i like the music, very catchy :P will you be at the arnault's party?

Olivia stood, realizing now was probably the time to be getting ready. She exited her room and headed to the bathroom that she shared with her parents. She curled her short hair and pinned a few pieces back, and threw on some shimmery shadow and red lips. The look gave her a very vintage, 50's vibe. It suited her style, so she walked back to her room and chose a dress that matched the look she was going for. Looking over herself in a mirror, she did a twirl and decided that she was happy with the look. The outfit as a whole gave her a youthful but classic look, something that she was proud of. It seemed to fit her personality. Olivia dressed modestly compared to those she went to school with. Knowing she wouldn't be able to explaini the outfit to her parents, she undressed and stuck the outfit in a dress bag, deciding that she would just pull over and change before she arrived.
Liv headed down the stairs with her dress bag and purse in tow, the smell of freshly ground coffee hitting her before she even reached the bottom step. "Mom, dad I'm heading over to Syd's for the evening! I might spend the niiight!" She threw out a random name as her coverup, and made eye contact with her mother before she left. Her mother only gave her a small nod, because Olivia knew all of the rules. Keep them updated. Make good choices. Remember who you are.
That last one always got to her. She never seemed to be able to keep it. Oh well, 2 out of 3 is better than none. Olivia hopped in her jeep, something she was immensley proud of. She didn't splurge often, but Liv had saved for years to be able to afford her own vehicle, and the fact that she was able to buy her own pretty white jeep was mind-blowing to her every single time she hopped into it. She kept it down the street from her parent's coffee shop, though, because she would never be able to explain to them how she was able to pay for it.

Jameson's house was usually a good spot to pregame at, be it his one in the city, or out on the island, because of how lax his mother was. AJ had learned years ago that James' mom, Alexandra, was the cool aunt of the family, and that James was lucky she was his mother. AJ loved his own mother as well, and honestly probably qualified as a mama's boy in a way, but there was no denying that James could get away with murder in his house. While AJ had his mother's affection like most son's did, he still had rules to follow and he knew his boundaries and limits. Jameson never really seemed to have them. He wasn't a disrespectful or rowdy kid to begin with, but Alexandra was the type of mother who doted on him at every opportunity given. Never once had AJ heard her yell, and she always went out of her way to make sure that everyone was having a good time. She was a really sweet woman, and although her pushover tendencies probably didn't always make her the best parent of the year in terms of enforcing rules, they worked in AJ's favor since he and Jameson's friends frequently needed a place to drink at, and she never seemed bothered by the boys doing it there. Had the Arnaults party today not been one that attracted many of the affluent adults of Manhattan as well, then The Airth's compound on Long Island would have been the perfect pregaming spot for many of the popular kids attending. However, because it was Mr. Arnault and his new wife who were hosting it, AJ's parents, as well as Jameson's mother (without her husband, due to him being away on business) would be attending too.

Because The Clarke's didn't own a summer house in the Hamptons, but had one down south instead, AJ's family was staying with his cousins as they frequently did. While James' parents were okay with him drinking underage, AJ had to be more careful about it. His parents weren't crazy strict, and every now and then he could get away with trying a glass of wine at dinner, or having a beer with his father at a sporting event, but he knew he had to be respectfully careful and discrete about it. That was why now, as his parents and younger sister hung out inside the house somewhere, AJ didn't feel guilty about drinking a beer with a lime as he laid out by the pool with James. Had Alaina been there, he would have expected some comment about how stupid they looked sunbathing, but without her there, he didn't have to worry about the shame. In fact, he was actually enjoying the afternoon of lounging poolside. It was a nice break in the day, after spending a few hours at the Southampton's Bathing Corporation, a pristine and exclusive beach club that their grandmother was a member of, where he spent a few hours playing tennis with James, and before they had to get ready for The Arnault's party.

He doubted his family would be heading to The Arnault's right at four o'clock on the dot, but he wasn't sure whether he was expected to be there then, or not. Usually, to parties like this, he would show up with Sydney. Since Adeline was her best friend, though, there was always a chance that she would be there before the party started. He wouldn't know, though, since it had been nearly three days since Sydney had answered his last text. He had called and texted her numerous times since then, and at this point, he could barely even remember what their last fight had been about to warrant this silent treatment. He knew that if Sydney knew about him sleeping with Esme last month, the retribution would have been much harsher than this, so he assumed that she really was just unnecessarily pissed that he had cancelled a date night they had been planning on last week. Although the public wouldn't know it, it seemed like he and Sydney were fighting more often than they weren't, and AJ hated that.

To: Sydney
Are you really still ignoring me? Image ImageImage Image Image

After he sent a text to her, he leaned over and finished his beer, purposely pushing the empty bottle closer to Jameson's side of the table in between them, just in case his parents happened to come outside. "Day three of Syd ghosting me..." he said aloud with an annoyed huff. "I really don't get girls, man..." At that thought, he also decided to text Esme.

To: Esme
Hey you on the island yet? W Syd?

Also, only really because his phone was out and in his hand, he decided to send his sister a text too. He knew that the only reason for why she wasn't there was because she and their mom had gotten into an argument earlier that day, and maybe it was that mama's boy instinct in him, but he felt like his sister was dragging this too much. Plus, the fact that he and James had had to entertain Isabelle for a little while today, while Alaina had been off doing whatever she was doing with her friends, still got on his nerves, despite how much he loved his baby sister.

To: Alaina

Alaina's day was picking up, but it definitely hadn't been as smooth sailing as relaxing as the festivities called for. Getting a nice buzz beforehand surely counted for something, but even still, Alaina typically pregamed with drinks and not weed. It wasn't the she didn't like the latter, but she was more of a social smoker and only really partook at parties and never really when she was trying to knock off bad vibes like she was doing now. After getting into an argument with her mother, after the woman assumed that her daughter going to the bathroom after breakfast was suspicious, Alaina's day had followed suit. She no longer felt like socializing, and it probably seemed dramatic to claim that you wanted to stay home for the day just because you got into a fight with your parent, but not only was Alaina offended, she was also incredibly embarrassed. What made it worse was that she could understand that her mother was simply looking out for her, and so she did feel a little bad in retrospect, but she couldn't help it. Ever since she got found out, and especially after being put in therapy against her will for a problem she didn't even believe she had, there had been some inevitable tension between her parents, but especially her mom who she had the least favorable relationship with. It would make anyone feel like crap to feel like their every move was being watched because something was 'wrong' with them. Her parents had good intentions, but the impact was definitely the opposite of what they were planning, because Alaina was on the track to regression. Her smoking with Charlotte wasn't just to get rid of the lingering anger, or to rebel, but it was because she knew she would get the munchies and she was an emotional eater. She wanted to have an excuse to eat so she'd feel like less of a pig for wanting to stuff her face to begin with. Alaina knew what would end up happening if she allowed herself to binge, but she told herself in the moment that she didn't care because it wasn't something that was out of her control, and she didn't have a problem that even needed to be controlled.

"Famished," Alaina said to Charlotte's question about being hungry. After breakfast, she hadn't eaten anything else, so by now she had built up an appetite even without the help of the weed. Before, she still felt too shamed and embarrassed to allow herself to eat anything, despite the strong urge to just consume a lot of food to make up for her poor mood. "My parents came too," Alaina explained, tilting her head to the side as she spritzed some of the perfume on her neck. She lazily rolled her head around, the subdued effects from the week coming into play. "And my little sister. But my mom was being such a bitch earlier, so I just needed to air that out." Alaina leaned over, her arms propping up on the bathroom counter. She trailed her finger over the tip of eyelashes quietly. Before she got the chance to ask Charlotte if she should get eyelash extensions, she heard Naya come in. "Not nearly as fun as this party with our BFF's will be." Alaina nudged Charlotte, a sly smirk on her face since she knew that Charlotte had as little interest in mingling with people you weren't really into as she was. Alaina started for the door, feeling the added pep in her step that came with her buzz. She wasn't totally stoned, but she was feeling quite content with just not feeling like total shit, and that showed, but on her, it likely looked as though she was plotting something. It was something she couldn't help--always looking up to something. As a small child, it definitely was more of a burden than it was now, because now she more or less embraced it and enjoyed the fact that she sometimes had a tendency to look like she knew something. It spoke to her more arrogant side and not minding looking that way. "I seriously just want a taco or something," she said as she started towards the kitchen. "Ooh, when are those cocktails going to be ready?"

On the way downstairs, she felt her phone buzz, and before she even read the text, she was rolling her eyes. Leave it to her brother to (albeit unknowingly) sabotage her high. Because she did have a nice buzz going, she didn't feel as peeved as she would have had she been sober, but it still wasn't a text she was pleased with seeing, nor was it one that would go without its due comeback.

To: Brosky
but wait is it gf? or is this another off season? :// sounds like ur the bitch in the situation tbh. which DEF says something since ur gf is...who she is

Alaina actually had no idea that him and Sydney were back at it again, but she was aware that they had what she considered an odd and unhealthy relationship, and that was simply coming from her knowing very, very little about the extent of their relationship. She didn't like the way Sydney caused him to act when she was involved, like when she would come over, he would be pretty intense about them not embarrassing him. They were being mean to each other now, but it wasn't like they were like that the whole time, which was also how she knew a little about their relationship thanks to her brother venting to her from time to time. Obviously, she disliked Sydney for those reasons because it seemed like more stress than was healthy, but she also knew her brother had to be responsible for some things. In Alaina's mind, it became a waste of time to mess with someone you obviously don't like, at least to her that's what it seemed like. She didn't know that they were feuding at the moment, but because the chances of her being wrong seemed slim, given that it seemed to happen a bit too frequently in her eyes (and that was with her not even knowing just how frequent this kind of stuff really was with them), it didn't seem like a far shot.

After secretly spending her entire summer at an eating disorder treatment center in Illinois, being back home was a transition. She had only gotten home on Monday, and although school had begun on Wednesday, she hadn't returned to school yet. She had been sick earlier in the week, and though it was pretty clear at this point that it had only been her anxiety making her sick, and not an actual virus, it was impossible for her father to force her to school when she was working herself up into getting physically sick because of the nerves. While it probably seemed extreme, Adeline wasn't good with change. It was one of the reasons for why transitioning into living at the treatment center had been so difficult for her, and coming back home after such a long stretch was no different. Coming back home to a new living situation, with her father having gotten married while she was gone, only made the transition seem more extreme. Additionally though, Adeline had the added element of having to stress over being gone for so long, simply because such an unexplained disappearance wasn't acceptable in the social scene that she was involved in. Had she had any forewarning about her father planning on sending her away, she would have made up some excuse for the disappearance that would be to come. She didn't have that luxury though, so now, she could only trust that her family had really kept up the lie that she was away in California for most of the summer visiting her mother, and in France for the rest of it, visiting her father's extended family. They had claimed that she was taking a break from social media, purging herself, if you will, though anyone who knew Adeline knew that she would never willingly do something like that. She knew that her close friends had to know that the story her family was selling was a false one, but now that she was back, she didn't know how to explain the truth to them. Sydney, in particular, was who she was worried about. She was her closest friend, and one of the most trusted people in her life, and yet her struggle with her weight had always felt like too big of a secret to share. Adeline had never wanted to admit that she had a problem, so that too, had allowed her to remain mum about the problem. Even now, when telling the truth was probably the only option that she had to explain such an inexplicable disappearance, she felt sick over having to admit to where she really was. When something made her anxious, Adeline's go-to response was to ignore it instead of facing the responsibility, and that was why she had refused to even touch her phone upon returning to New York, until today.

She sat on one of the high-top chairs at the island in the kitchen of her summer house silently, although the house itself wasn't silent. Thankfully, the kitchen itself was empty for the time being, aside from Simone, the family's chef. Down the hall there was another kitchen, and that was the one that was typically used to prepare big meals for parties like the one her family was currently preparing for. Because the party was being hosted outdoors, most of the event planners and staff involved with setting everything up were out there, and luckily for Adeline, she was pretty sure that her father and stepmother were somewhere out there as well. She was only just beginning to get over the bad mood that her father had put her in earlier in the day, after someone had informed him of how she had thrown out the meal that was supposed to be her lunch (and despite having zero evidence, Adeline was convinced that that someone was Grace). That was the only reason for why she was currently sitting in the kitchen. She had been forced to sit down for lunch #2, and this time, Simone wasn't going to let her cheat like she had with the salad that she had originally been given, despite it not fulfilling all of the requirements of her post-residential meal plan guidelines. Now, she was waiting for Simone to finish the grilled cheese sandwich, that would also have turkey and a sliced tomato inside of it. She was sure that it would taste good, but eating a 345 calorie sandwich, especially when bread was one of the foods that she dreaded the most, made her feel very uneasy. She had just finished sending out a text to Sydney, Esme, and Olivia, knowing that it was a pathetic and lackluster message to send after literally not being heard from for months, but not knowing what else to say, when her sister, Naya and Alaina entered the kitchen.

To: Sydney, Esme, Olivia
Can't wait to see you guys today ImageImageImageImage

Soon after Naya had joined them, the girls headed downstairs. Charlotte was feeling her high enough that she didn't really want to start drinking... until she remembered that she had to spend the entire afternoon and evening socializing. It would have been bad enough if this party was at someone else's house, but because it was her father's name on the invitation, she had to be extra careful about seeming all prim and proper to represent the family properly, and that just wasn't something she was comfortable doing. It wasn't in her nature to be that person. Adeline seemed to handle it fine, and she definitely was the one who had the friends that her father probably appreciated more, but Charlotte had never caught on to the allure of putting up a fake image just to impress other people. It wasn't fun, and it felt like a waste of time. Thinking about that made alcohol sound all the more enticing. "You're drinking, right?" she said, cocking her head to the side to look at Naya. It still felt necessary to ask those kinds of questions, though it probably wasn't fair to Naya that she had such an ingrained reputation of being sweet and innocent. Charlotte asked because of that, but also because she knew that if she was drinking alone, her father would have something to say, but that if Naya was doing so too, he wouldn't be so quick to criticize. She was his new stepdaughter, and although Charlotte wasn't like Adeline, calling out any "injustice" the second it was noticed, she wasn't blind to how her father was putting in an extra effort to make Naya comfortable and happy in her new home. It was surprising, but it was a sign that he liked Grace for more than just her youth. "I'm sure Simone will make us food and drinks," she said reassuringly, as they headed towards the kitchen.

Despite the party not starting for another couple of hours, and it being apparent in her own attire, and Charlotte and Alaina's too, that no one was dressed for the occasion yet, Adeline couldn't resist commenting on Naya's very showy outfit. It was something that was probably understandable to be worn lounging around the house, but it wasn't something that Adeline would ever wear, and as most people knew, she couldn't comprehend that other people would think differently than her. "Are you and Grace heading back to the brothel you guys came from, or did you finally find out that my dad signed a prenup, and that if you want anything close to this kind of life after he dumps her in a year or two, that you better use these parties to 'network' and find yourself a sugar daddy of your own?" It was an unnecessary dig, especially considering that Naya literally had not said a word to her, and that in the past five days that Adeline had been home, Naya and Grace had been nothing but nice to her. Adeline's mood seemed like a wild card lately. There were moments when she was cordial towards her new stepmother and stepsister, and others when she was venomous. The latter usually came about for no clear reason, though it was typically Adeline projecting her frustrations about other things onto them. They were an easy scapegoat to release her anger when she was feeling anxious about her weight, or the thought of returning to school, or still feeling frustrated over her entire summer being absolutely destroyed. In reality, there was a logical part of Adeline that did exist, that wasn't bogged down by her drama-queen antics. That piece of her knew good and well that there was no reason for her to lash out at Grace and Naya, especially considering that the rest of her family, including her mother (who Adeline was very close with), had taken to them quickly. Being irrational was part of who Adeline was, and specifically because they had been introduced into her life during what was probably her lowest point in terms of her struggle with her eating disorder, she was just more inclined, now, to associate negative feelings with them.

Charlotte hadn't been expecting to see Adeline in the kitchen of all places, but she was less surprised by the words that came out of her mouth, than her physical being as a whole. The comment towards Naya warranted an eye roll from her as she passed the island, ignoring her twin but glancing back at Naya, "Are you as shocked as I am that she managed to add a few new words to her vocabulary this summer?" she asked. Had Alaina not been standing there, then Charlotte surely would have made an insensitive added comment about how she thought she had only added some weight, not vocab words too, but she was decent enough not to go that low in front of someone who Charlotte assumed had no knowledge of Adeline's situation. She was just about to round the corner to approach their chef, who, by all means was a nice...though sometimes cold seeming, when she decided that Naya probably had a better chance of getting them a meal. "You ask," she mouthed to Naya, smirking and waving to the woman whose back was towards them. Simone was probably busy right now with a bunch of tasks lined up by her father, and because Bernard seemed against saying no to Naya right now, she was sure that that message had been passed along to the staff as well.

Naya practically snorted at Alaina's response, remarking, "Yeah right." She might have been a lot more for trying to find enjoyment in larger settings, particularly now that Grace has her occasionally needing to attend scenes such as the one that will be taking place later for the sake of family, but it didn't mean that Naya didn't have her reservations. Or that she was ecstatic about it. It was one of the reasons why she was eager to go get food with Charlotte and Alaina. Having something in her stomach would quell the fluttering in her belly and the antsy jitters rattling just below the surface. Naya followed her two friends out and away from Charlotte's room, and in the time it took them to reach the main kitchen Naya learned that they mostly used for the family, Naya was able to at least respond to Olivia. Her face might have remained somewhat chipper, though rather blank, when Charlotte asked if she was drinking, but Naya found herself rolling her eyes as she both text the A-Lister and made the conscious effort to not fall flat on her face while bounding down the steps. The annoyance Naya felt when friends only acted or spoke in correlation to the person she presented to them was probably unfair, but to a degree, it was also unfair for it to be insinuated as her only trait. Being good was not one-dimensional or all that she was, and she knew that to some degree, Charlotte understood that. It didn't make Naya's distaste for the insinuation go away either.

To: Liv
kinda dont have a choice. family obligations n allat lol

Naya would have replied to Castiel's message as well, but Adeline's greeting was startling distraction, so much so that Naya had to glance down at her attire before immediately glancing at Charlotte and Alaina, self-conscious. Naya had not seen an issue with what she had been wearing. She had showered earlier and thrown on the first things she found that weren't the clothes she was considering for later. They had no plans of really seeing anyone important until then and it didn't feel like she was wearing anything particularly revealing...right? Adeline's vitriol should not have been surprising considering her mood since her return from the program, but the awareness of Adeline's ever-present attitude didn't make the words offend any less than they already did. Naya couldn't even offer a rebuttal, just a tight smile at Charlotte's slight dig. It probably would have done her no good to say anything in the first place. While Grace vowed that Naya's patience would wane and she'd go off on Adeline as she already had once before, Naya just didn't see a point. Answering to Adeline's bait would give her a reason to think they were just all out to get her and Naya just didn't have it in her to entertain in a show she never asked for to begin with. Instead, ignoring Adeline completely, Naya approached Simone, putting on a small smile. Naya actually liked Simone and had frequently sat and watched the older woman cook since coming to the Hampton residence, so she didn't feel as much of the coldness emanating from her as someone else might. "I know everyone's got a lot to do," she said. "but do you think you could make us something to eat and cocktails? Pre party jitters and all that?"

╚ THE QUEEN BEE ╝

Outfit: Here
Location: En route to The Arnault Residence
Dialogue Color: #209DC7
Sydney's summer has been no less spectacular than one would have imagined it to be. Between trips to Cannes, Ibiza, Paris, Sydney, and a plethora of other fun places across the globe, she had found time for weekends in the Hamptons, boozy brunches, and shopping trips galore. Her Instagram page spoke to the most photogenic of those fun moments, and though only her friends would know, there were many other fun moments that were less picturesque. Those were the moments that were more raw and emotional sometimes, and other times, just silly and crazy. All of it had made her summer one for the books; ups and downs included. It could have been better though, and that wasn't just Sydney's perfectionist side speaking. She had spent the entire summer without a single interaction with her longtime best friend, Adeline, and had then discovered through Esme, that Adeline was actually in a residential treatment center that offered treatment for eating disorders, mood disorders, drug addiction, alcohol abuse, trauma and other related disorders. It was a revelation that starkly conflicted with the narrative that Adeline's family had given her when she demanded some answers. Her father had claimed that she was in California visiting her mother, and purposely purging herself of social media and her phone, while her sister obnoxiously insisted that she had been an unfortunate witness to a murder and had been placed in a witness protection program somewhere in the Midwest. Not knowing the truth would be infuriating for anyone, but it was especially infuriating for Sydney, who could easily be billed as a control freak. It was something she typically wouldn't even deny. She liked being in control of things. She liked knowing where her friends were, and what they were doing that was so important, that it prevented them from being by her side at a moment's notice. The intensity of that feeling only increased when it came to Adeline, because Sydney had been immeasurably close with her since they were children. She was her best friend, to just suddenly not hear from her one day, and then receive a slew of lies about why she disappeared abruptly, with no warning, for months, wasn't a feeling that she could describe without coming across as being too emotional, or too bitter.

In the end, Esme had given her enough reason to believe that Adeline actually had been in Illinois for the entire summer. It was surely more realistic than Adeline, of all people, deciding to take a summer away from social media. Sydney wasn't a monster, and so when she found out about it, her heart did hurt for her best friend. She felt very guilty about it, because as her best friend, Sydney should have noticed that something was wrong enough to warrant such a dramatic situation. She should have been there for her while she was struggling. She should have forced her to recover, somehow, so that this never happened. She did feel bad for Adeline. She still did. However, Sydney wouldn't have been Sydney if she hadn't found a way to treat the situation coldly too. She wondered why Adeline hadn't trusted her enough to tell her about it. She told herself that Adeline probably didn't value their friendship as much as she did. She convinced herself that the girl had to have known that she was going to be spending her summer away, and had simply opted against sharing that information. She was angry and offended, and especially once Adeline had failed to show up for the first few days of school, those feelings had overtaken the hurt that she felt for her friends.

Her plan had been to ghost Adeline in response to her ghosting her all summer, be it by her own will, or not. She wasn't going to acknowledge the girl, even at her own party, until Adeline acknowledged her and offered her a sincere apology, and the complete truth. After flying out of the city with Camilo and touching down in the Hamptons, she had been en route to her house there when she received the first form of contact from Adeline in literal months, and she couldn't believe how casual and generic it was. It had been months since any of them had heard a word from her, and she had the audacity to send that out?! Let alone in a group chat, as if Sydney was only as important as Esme and Olivia were? To put it simply, Sydney was fuming, even if she remained silent in the car as she stared at it, contemplating her next mood. "Change of plans," she said abruptly, speaking to the driver of their town car, though her eyes didn't move from her phone screen. "Take us to 6 Olde Town Lane instead. You can wait outside, it'll only be a few minutes." She wasn't going to actively offer the driver, or Camilo, more of an explanation than that, though she was sure Camilo would ask. Sydney wasn't dressed for the party, and admittedly, it take her a long time to get ready for things, but she absolutely could not not blast Adeline, in person, after that text.

To: Olivia, Esme
I have to take care of business before the party, or else I would insist we get ready together. Send pictures of your outfits before you leave!

To: Esme
I might kill her. I'm going there now because I can't believe that she just sent that after disappearing for an entire summer. Since you were the only friend courteous enough to keep me in the loop, feel free to join.

Admittedly, Sydney had only really grown close to Esme this summer. The girl had been a part of their clique for a substantial amount of time by now, but with Adeline gone this summer, things had just fallen into place with Esme picking up that next-in-line role. Sydney was pleased... surprisingly so, even... with how well Esme managed to do in the role. She was fun to party with, to shop with, and even to vent to, when Sydney was feeling more vulnerable than she was comfortable with. The fact that she had proven to be useful and well connected, especially with the Adeline information, had definitely made her seem far more of an equal than Sydney had ever seen her as before.

They were only a few minutes or so from Adeline's house anyway, with how close her house was to Sydney, so once they pulled through the private gates, she glanced to Camilo. "You can wait in here if you want," she said, simply because she didn't think he wanted to come inside and awkwardly wait while she sorted things out with Adeline, though she knew she probably should have explained why she had taken the detour here because maybe if he knew that they were going to be walking into drama, he actually would have wanted to wait inside of the car.

While Simone didn't look up from the grilled cheese that she was sliding out of the pan and plating for Adeline, Charlotte watched as her expression softened. She knew that making Naya ask was their best bet. While she knew that Simone wouldn't have outright rejected her request, at least not if she said that their guest, Alaina, was the one who was hungry, she knew that she wouldn't have been as willing to do it, compared to Naya asking. Simone was actually quite a nice woman, despite Charlotte claiming her eastern European roots making her come across as being cold and bitchy. In reality, Charlotte's tendency to get high and request random large meals at all times of the day didn't make Simone's job the easiest, and after working for the family for years, she was close enough with them where she was family-like. That meant that she could get away with rolling her eyes and expressing her annoyance with Charlotte in French sometimes, and normally even getting a chuckle out of her dad for that. In Charlotte's defense, though, she was sure that she would have been the favorite of the twins, if Adeline ever entered the kitchen.

"Pre-party jitters that have us specifically craving tacos and margaritas," Charlotte chimed in, taking a seat at the island closest to Adeline, but with one empty chair in between. Alaina had been the one to bring up tacos, and though Charlotte easily could have had a grilled cheese or two and been satisfied, the idea of tacos sounded even better. Likewise, she wasn't very picky when it came to alcohol, but if they were having tacos, something with tequila seemed like the best pairing option. With no resistance, which Charlotte again only attributed to Naya asking, Simone agreed, only after sliding Adeline her sandwich and sending her a subtle "I'm watching you" look. Smiling in triumph, she then glanced to Naya, and nodded towards Alaina. "Unfortunately, this one's gonna be joining you on the 'good behavior' list tonight. Baby Izzy is coming, and I know she's gonna end up playing the 'gotta be a good sister' card," Charlotte complained, adding in a dramatic sigh for the effect, as she referenced Alaina's responsibility to be a good older sister, though she didn't know if that was actually how Alaina was going to act. "Which actually only means that you'll be appointed to my second-in-command drunk. You know Grace doesn't give a fuck if you drink. I don't think I could do anything to make my dad hate me more than when I took four shots of tequila back to back and threw up in front of Emmanuel Macron's wife this summer in Cannes, so I'm good to go too," she said with a playful smirk. "I'm craving trouble tonight. And tequila," she continued, looking towards Simone, who was surely still in earshot range, though her back was turned to them as she cooked the meat they had just requested for the tacos. "Simooooooone!" Charlotte called out, in a way that was probably obnoxious enough to be Adeline-like, though Charlotte's annoying behavior towards their staff was only playful and meant to mimic in jest the way that Adeline seriously treated some of them, "I told Naya that she needs to learn what patience is, but she was wondering if you'd make those margaritas now!" Although she received a few choice words muttered in French and an eye roll, three margaritas were soon placed in front of them, and Charlotte couldn't resist blowing an obnoxious kiss as a thank you. "Drink up, you ugly bitches."

Stopping at a red light to send the quick text, he would sigh. It felt so odd to be talking to a female in such a manner. He felt like he was lying to himself. But his parents often checked his phone, to make sure he wasn't breaking any rules. So he kept it up like this. He didn't like the entire setup, but he had to make do. Noticing he had time, the male would pull his car up to a small Starbucks near the house, and park. Walking into the coffee shop, the ambiance was low-energy. People weren't really there. There was a skeleton crew of sorts, but he would shrug. He liked his coffee. "I'd like a venti mocha frappucino, with three shots of espresso,"
Cass requested.

The barista nodded and would give him his total, he handed her his card. His amber eyes looking around for a seat to sit down for a bit. He'd probably hang around here for the remaining amount of time he had to wait till the party. Absently thinking about the participants in tonight's events, Naya should be lucky Cass loved her enough to show him. For anyone else, he'd put it off with a lame excuse. But....his mother had been stressing him recently. All the small snippets of phone calls he heard, it placed him in an awkward place.

"Cass."

His name entered his ears, as he relinquished himself from his thoughts, he'd get up and get his drink. Taking a sip of the energy rushing goodness, before he took out his phone and sent a quick text to Naya.

Charlotte chiming in with specifics was needed because in all honesty, Naya had no idea what she wanted, she just wanted food. And, yes, surprisingly, a margarita as well. A small part of her brain immediately longed for chicken tenders and french fries, but that was easily stamped down by the proposal of tacos. Seeing as Charlotte handled making sure Adeline got her sandwich, Naya immediately felt that her job was done and headed to one of the chairs at the island, the one farthest away from Adeline. Out of all of Sydney Persson's friends, Adeline was the least intimidating and Naya has never been afraid of her. However, she wasn't going to test their already fragile standing with closer proximity and she eagerly let the girl's twin take the seat closest to her, while she herself took the farthest. It didn't take much for Naya to become a target, she realized, but she could at least somewhat distance herself from the line of fire. Besides, she finally looked at the text from Cas and smirked. She could almost see the betrayed expression on his face at her demands.

To: Cas
of course babe

Naya looked up just in time for Charlotte to turn to her, and Naya raised an unimpressed eyebrow at Charlotte's story about the summer. Naya had not exactly gone everywhere with the Arnaults during the summer. She had desperately wanted to spend her time with her grandparents and the rest of her family. Anyone else would have taken advantage of such a prestigious opportunity, possibly being able to travel out of the country and she definitely was going to want it, perhaps next summer of it was alright with Bernard. She also didn't want to be away from her family now that she was definitely not going to be seeing them much and then she wasn't trying to look like she was mooching off of the Arnault family wealth so early. In her head, it seemed realistic that people would automatically believe that Gigi was marrying into the family for money and that the monetary benefits of the marriage would go to Naya's head, but it turned her off to some degree. She didn't want this family for what they could give her; all of it was for Gigi and how ridiculously (and yes, Naya was a touch jealous) smitten she looked every time her eyes landed on her husband. The rumors and assumptions probably won't go away just because Naya chooses to distance herself, but for the first few months, Naya had decided to distance herself in the best way that she could for her own conscience. Her vlog was helped.

"Ummm...correction, you're usually craving trouble," Naya couldn't help but chime in, in jest, grinning at the brunette. "Besides, we both know I'm never going to be able to keep up with you, ever." While Naya frequently lamented that she had a low tolerance for alcohol, the truth was that she never challenged it or let it become better. She always knew her grandmother hated when she drank and even though her dad thought it amusing to let the kids take sips here and there to see who would pass out first (and yes, despite how normal they generally were, Naya came from a family of occasionally immature assholes), she had never really tried seeing if she could get herself to make it past a few drinks. She stayed away from hard liquor on most days and while the margarita wouldn't do her in, she had no doubt that following Charlotte's lead tonight would result in her probably getting plastered. And while a bigger part of her brain feared the idea of what she would do without her inhibitions - without self-control and discipline, which everyone knew her for - a smaller, louder part was anticipating it.

She should have known that Charlotte couldn't help being Charlotte and the warning came when Charlotte dragged out Simone's name. Naya watched as the older woman stiffened slightly and then she herself had to squawk at Charlotte pinning her own impatience on Naya. "Asshole," she hissed at the girl, though the fact that her mouth couldn't really frown around the amused smile bespoke her actual enjoyment of the overall situation. It was easy, in those moments, to pretend as if Adeline wasn't even there. Welcome, even. Naya didn't need a bad mood just before an event she was half anticipating, half dreading. Soon enough, drinks were placed in front of them and Naya rolled her eyes at Charlotte, but picked hers up anyway. Before bringing the glass to her lips, she made sure to thank Simone and then took a drink, setting the glass back down after she swallowed.

In a way, Charlotte was right. A lot of the times, Alaina felt like the least liked child out of the family, especially next to her brother. Feeling like your parents had a favorite from time to time wasn't actually that weird as far as having siblings went, and objectively, Alaina could reason that her feelings were false and it wasn't like her parents were trying to get rid of her. Still, and especially with starting her treatment, she felt like the biggest burden in the family. She wasn't a complete victim, as she had been the instigator many times before and would continue to be one in the future, but that didn't mean that she wanted to always be on her parents bad side. Alaina still had no desire to be around her family at this second, but her current little rebellion was sufficient for _ reasons. One, it was basically harmless. Sure, it was a bit rude, but like with most parents, they knew when to take their losses, and Alaina did too. She knew she would catch flack for it when she got home, but her removing herself from their presence wasn't a big enough deal for her parents to flip out over. The second being that Alaina could only step out of line, especially in public, but so much. She might have still been mad at her mother, or maybe not even mad but just not ready to be over what happened this morning, but she couldn't totally lash out. She couldn't just down a bunch of alcohol (especially in front of dad) so casually, so to be visibly drunk would definitely be pushing things too far, and even Alaina knew when to push the limits and for what reasons. While she didn't think her feelings and frustration were totally unwarranted, she didn't think it was that big of a deal that she needed to embarrass her family and face huge repercussions for it. So yes, she probably would be a bit tamer today, and maybe even a smidge more simply because her removal from family affairs already had her in the orange zone.

Plus, like Charlotte mentioned, her sister would be in attendance. Besides not wanting Izzy to think anything was wrong, Alaina wasn't so selfish that she would actually do something seriously stupid in front of her younger sister. Still, though, that didn't mean that Alaina was going to just reject the margarita in front of her. It was the principle behind it, she told herself as she raised her glass. "I can't play the card until my family actually shows up so." She pressed the rim to her lips, downing some of the liquid in place of finishing her sentence. Family issues aside, Alaina wasn't trying to get crossed. If it was just going to be her tonight, and her family was elsewhere, she of course wouldn't mind getting tipsy on top of being high, but her buzz was good enough to suffice for the time being. In fact, between the two, Alaina should just stick to being high because that way she could still get her rebellion out, but without having to worry about the consequences that drinking alcohol could bring, like inevitably acting like a dumbass if she got too drunk. Right now, she just wanted those tacos and to lie down. The smell of the meat cooking only intensified her appetite, but being in front of Adeline did have her feeling a bit self-conscious. During the first meeting, Adeline had made a comment about Alaina being bulimic because Alaina wasn't skin and bones like a lot of the other girls there. It was a comment that needed to marinate with time to really feel the full weight of its impact. It wasn't something that was keeping her up at night, and Adeline wasn't even entirely incorrect because Alaina did have bulimic tendencies, but for some reason, she just couldn't shake the words, and the fact that she couldn't only bothered her more. Because it only seemed to actualize that she did have an unhealthy relationship with and concept of food and her body.

Being high, it was only natural that she would get the munchies, and she actually was quite hungry considering she hadn't touched food since this morning, but her eagerness did cause her the slightest bit of shame. Not enough for her to second guess eating, because she definitely wasn't going anywhere without eating at least one taco. Because she was buzzed, she could acknowledge these feelings but without actually caring enough to do anything about them. So in the back of her mind, she knew that she would instantly regret binging right now, and she knew she wasn't just doing it because she was hungry or high. Alaina knew just how shitty she would feel afterwards, and that was part of the reason why she was doing it, but also to prove to herself that it was all in her head, and that she could binge without feeling any repercussions, even if that was just wishful thinking to rationalize her actions, knowing how the end result would actually be. "If I do get too fucked up, I can't promise you that I won't dip into your bedroom and take a nap. So Naya, if you're gonna sub in for me, let me know because I might just eat these tacos and see y'all tomorrow," Alaina said, obviously joking, but anyone who knew Alaina knew she was shameless enough in that regard to not be totally kidding.

BRODY CALSON

Hex Code: #2D31DD
Outfit: Here, without the hat
The few experiences that Brody had taken the Long Island Railroad told him that it was even less reliable than the subways, and far more expensive. With that being said, he wasn't excited to take a two hour ride on it, but it was the cheapest way to get to Southampton from the city. Living in Manhattan meant that owning a car was impractical and expensive, so he didn't have a car of his own to drive there. Even if he did have one though, at sixteen years old, he only would have had a learning permit, and the rules that came with that made the commute from New York City to Southampton impossible with the bridges and tunnels you needed to pass through. Driving on his own wasn't an option, his family didn't have frivolous amounts of money to blow on airfare for such a short distance, and he wasn't willing to shell out hundreds of dollars in Uber fares, so the train was his best bet. With earphones in and good music playing, it went faster than he imagined it was going to, thankfully, and surprisingly, there were no delays and he ended up on the island sooner than he expected. Since he had planned ahead for issues, he ended up in Southampton with an hour or so to spare before the start of the party.

This wasn't Brody's first time on Long Island, or in the Hamptons. He typically made it out to the area a few times each summer, because he had friends whose families had enough money to own houses out there, and he appreciated the nice access that they gave him to the beach on good surfing days. While he was vaguely familiar with the area, he wasn't necessarily comfortable with it. He didn't stand out like a sore thumb because while his reputation wasn't clean, he didn't necessarily look like a dirtbag. He wasn't the type of person who sought attention or to stand out, and with an appearance like his, he actually fit in to the beach-like vibe that certain areas of the town possessed. However, he definitely didn't mesh well with the wealthy rich people vibe that the area infamously gave off. That was why he actually chose to duck into a Starbucks, rather than one of the small independent cafes that lined the streets, when he figured that an iced coffee with some caffeine would do him good. It seemed less pretentious than one of the independent shops that he was sure specialized in making artistic designs in the foam of their drinks, just so people could Instagram it.

He was surprised when he saw Castiel inside, picking up his order from the counter just as Brody walked in. Though he wasn't close to Castiel, and actually suspected that the guy held reservations about him, Brody didn't necessarily dislike him. He didn't think that they were any closer than they were, but he also didn't hold any bad blood towards the guy, like Castiel was beginning to towards him. Speaking of that, it was coincidental that just as Brody approached the guy, he was in the midst of texting Naya, the friend that was causing Cass to feel wary of him.

To: Naya
Touched down in ur neck of the woods. I get credit for not running late for once.

"What's good, bro? Glad to see I'm not the only one in need of a pick-me-up before this thing," Brody said, smiling and nodding to Castiel in a friendly manner as he passed him, just a short distance, to order his own drink. With his order placed, he headed back towards Castiel, "How the hell are you not sweating your balls off in an outfit like that?" he asked, eyeing the outfit Castiel was wearing. Inside of an air-conditioned place like this, it was actually appropriate temperature wise, but outside, Brody felt like he would melt in something like that. Then again, he was the type of person who was always hot. "You changing into white before you get there, or are you planning on making some sort of fashion statement in that?" he added with a smirk. He wasn't trying to be an ass, but more-so was curious and playful about it. He wasn't sure if Castiel would take it that way, though.

Dialogue: #0ec593

The trip out to The Hamptons had been pretty uneventful. Being able to take a seaplane from the city, and calling it uneventful, was a pretty good representation of where Camilo sat in the socioeconomic world, and how he sometimes took that for granted, but for him, this was nothing special. His family didn't own a house in the area, but so many of his friends did that he was familiar with the Hamptons community. Had Sydney not agreed to let him come with her, he would have found someone else with a house to spend the few hours before the party with. In fact, he was sure that once he let Austin know of his whereabouts, he would end up getting shit for spending time with his girlfriend, over him. He and Sydney were close friends though, and nothing more, so he didn't think that it was as weird as AJ, his other close friend, probably would. While he would have enjoyed hanging out with his guy friends before the party, he always appreciated Sydney's company. Even being friends with her, it was rare that she was free in the sense that she wasn't with one of her girl friends, so it was hard to pass up a chance to hang out with her, even if it wasn't in that "Oh my God, she's Sydney Vale!!!" sort of fan girl way, but rather a more authentic friendship way.

Camilo had been in the middle of texting his mom back to let her know that they had gotten there safely, when Sydney abruptly told the driver to take them to a different address. Because of the street name, he recognized it as the Arnaults', and he glanced at her in confusion at that request. They had over an hour before the party started, and while Milo knew that Sydney was close enough with Adeline (and just cool and important enough in general) to show up as early as she wanted, this hadn't been a part of the plan. He was already dressed in white for the party, simply because he knew he would have felt more inconvenienced by having to change once they touched down, but he still wasn't mentally prepared for the party. He didn't even intend on pre-gaming and getting drunk, since both of his parents were going to be there (though they were running late due to his father's work), but he still needed to get into that socialization psyche which he didn't have now. Plus, showing up early meant that he was going to have to awkwardly be there without any other real guests. He was friends with Adeline, and he was sure that with such a big party and a grand estate like theirs, that there would be tons of people there now, getting every last detail set, but he still knew that he would feel impolite showing up earlier than expected. He wasn't going to argue with Sydney, or even question it though, because he knew that once she wanted to do something, she was doing it regardless of anyone else's opinion.

"I'll come," he volunteered, albeit in an unsure manner, once they had pulled through the private gates of the Arnault house, and the car came to a stop. Though he wasn't sure what they were actually here for, especially since Sydney wasn't dressed in the party attire she was planning on wearing, he figured that it would be less boring to see why, than to sit in the car and wait. Following Sydney to the front door, he wasn't surprised that she was let in with ease by the person who answered, "So, uh, why are we here so early?" he finally asked.

It was probably a good thing that Derek had paid for the fare to get to Long Island ahead of time as opposed to the day of. Already having a purchased one using eTix and having Naya text him, the latter of which he had known was going to happen regardless of if he followed through with his plans to come to the Arnault party or not, only solidified that he didn't have much of a choice in the matter. He didn't have money to just be wasting like a handful of his peers since The Long Island Railroad was no cheap ride, Naya would be disappointed even if she would get over it in a few hours, and he obviously didn't want to look like a punk...even if no one else had any clue why he would be looking like one just by showing up to a party.

To even try to convince himself that he wasn't attending the annual party, Derek had even neglected to find an all-white outfit ahead of time like he had done last week, opting out of the shopping trip Naya and his brother had both offered to accompany him on. It probably would've been a welcome distraction for Naya, given the frustrations she had expressed over her new family and the very new environment she was placed in, and it probably would have been fun. But Derek had made an excuse about homework he ended up procrastinating on and that had been that, and now he was here on a bus to where he had told himself he wasn't going to go, already dressed and all that. Derek had about an hour or so before he got to the stop, which was roughly the same amount of time it would take for the event to even take place, and in her last pitch the night before to convince him to come, Naya had declared that she would get Grace to pay for his Uber to the house. Which was why, instead of ignoring her text and pretending like he hadn't seen it, Derek sighed and proceeded to text her back, still in the group message that included Castiel.

To: Cas, Naya
bossy much? omw now

Contrary to what his aversion might seem like to an outsider, it wasn't that Derek didn't want to attend such a lavish event held by such a prestigious man as his family. Having one of his best friends be associated with the family was the biggest excuse to attend any and everything Derek happened to get an invitation to, not to mention the allure of free food, free drinks that he was definitely in the mood for at the moment, and the only price he had to pay was walking around and hoping that someone didn't try to stop him to ask about his background just so that they could see who was one of them and who wasn't. The issue was, and it was still something he had yet to tell his female friend for knowledge - not fear, because it was inevitable what her reaction would be - of that she'd give him one of those I-told-you-so-looks mixed with the right dose of pity, purposefully letting himself see Sydney Persson.

There was a difference between actively not having a choice in seeing a person because your lives were somewhat tangled, and then making the choice to be somewhere they were going to be, knowing that things were uncomfortable. At least on his part because Sydney was good at making people think she didn't care while Derek was pretty sure he'd be transparent as all hell. In truth, he didn't know how to be anything else. At school, it was easier to pretend like seeing Sydney from afar didn't make his stomach flutter with an emotion he didn't want to acknowledge or his heart drum a scant beat against his rib-cage when she just so happened to glance his way. At an event like this, one he could have avoided in order to get himself back under control and back to the reality where girls like Sydney did not get with guys in his social bracket, it felt infinitesimally harder despite knowing Sydney would do what she normally did and not even acknowledge him. It was his own fault for falling into bed repeatedly with a girl he knew wasn't going to let him get any closer than the already fragile friendship they had formed. Which was why, despite his reservations about talking about it, Derek sent another text to Naya, privately, while he tucked in for the rest of his long ride.

╚ THE QUEEN BEE ╝

Outfit: Here
Location: En route to The Arnault Residence
Dialogue Color: #209DC7
Sydney didn't mind Camilo coming inside with her, but that was mostly because she didn't plan on actually spending much time inside with him. She would leave him in a common area space, and talk to Adeline in private. That was the plan, at least, but as a familiar looking member of the Arnault house staff, whose name Sydney couldn't place, let them in and informed her that Adeline was in the kitchen, the plans changed a bit. Or they would, even if Sydney didn't realize it yet. "I need to speak to Adeline. Someone left her manners, and apparently, her brain, in California, and being the good friend that I am, I'm going to make sure we fix that right now," she explained curtly, prolonging the lie that Adeline had spent the summer in California with her mother, despite now knowing that it wasn't true. Even if she had every intention of blasting Adeline for not being truthful with her, she didn't think that Camilo had any reason to know the truth. Despite feeling selfishly entitled and offended by all of this, Sydney was still capable of recognizing that an eating disorder was a sensitive topic, and something that Adeline clearly and understandably didn't want the world knowing about. Milo was probably the sweetest guy that Sydney knew, but it wasn't about him. It was about Adeline... or at least it was supposed to be about Adeline, since it was hard for Sydney to feel like this wasn't also about herself, now that Adeline apparently thought that she was only as important as Esme and Olivia, and that such a bland and generic text was an acceptable first form of communication after dropping off the face of the planet for months.

Despite knowing that Adeline had a twin sister and a stepsister, she expected the girl to be alone in the kitchen. Not seated at the same island as Charlotte, Naya, and Alaina. Given the circumstances of all of this, it was even more surprising to see her with a plate of food in front of her, and call it cold, but Sydney made sure that her eyes were trained on that food for longer than necessary as soon as she was close enough to the four girls and the cook standing a few feet away. She hadn't even noticed that the member of the house staff that had let her in had followed closely behind her and Camilo, struggling to keep up with Sydney's purposely fast pace, until the woman caught up with them in the kitchen and spoke. "Miss Arnault, guests are here for you." It was probably the greeting that was needed for Sydney and Camilo's presence to be noticed, and although she glanced back at the woman with an annoyed expression, as if she didn't need anyone other than herself to announce her presence, she was secretly grateful for it, because she didn't know what to say in that immediate moment.

While part of her was overjoyed to finally see her best friend after months of wondering if she was okay, she didn't show that. Her face remained fairly emotionless, her lips turning up only slightly into a cold smile that was only present because Adeline wasn't alone. Yes, it was great that Adeline looked fairly healthy, and that she was even alive, and mostly, that she was apparently eating, but again, it was important to remember that despite being a good friend at heart, Sydney was a conceited person in the sense that she was the most important person in her world. Adeline had been through hell and back this summer, but Sydney couldn't focus on that when she felt like she had been disrespected. "Since we have so much catching up to do, it only seemed appropriate to stop by early," she stated, addressing Adeline in a manner that definitely seemed cold considering that they were best friends who hadn't seen each other for so long. "I can only imagine that you have some exciting stories to share about the witness protection program that your sister told me you were placed in. Are we going to walk and talk, or should I take a seat?" she said, walking towards the empty chair that separated Charlotte and Adeline, and raising her eyebrows in a nearly challenging motion as she studied Adeline's expression. She purposely ignored the three girls beside her, though it was clear that she was willing to use their presences as a leverage tool, because she was sure that Adeline wasn't going to want to do this "catching up" in front of them, and Sydney didn't want to either.

Carbs were a struggle for Adeline, even after months of intensive therapy. There were certain foods that she had grown more comfortable with while in treatment. Before going, she had a very limited set of food that she felt comfortable eating when she did allow herself to eat. Her safe foods included most raw vegetables, most fruits, rice cakes, and plain baked chicken. She would eat other things from time to time, but not without feeling anxious and guilty afterwards. Treatment had helped her quite a bit, though she still had ways to go. She had learned that dipping her celery sticks in peanut butter wasn't going to kill her, and made it taste a lot better, and that getting her calories through a real meal, like salmon and vegetables, was much more enjoyable than being forced to get them through drinking Ensure every day, like she had to do in the beginning of her treatment when she was still set on refusing some meals. She was doing better now, and even she recognized her own progress, but despite knowing that Simone hadn't doused this sandwich in oils and fats, it still made Adeline feel uncomfortable when it was set in front of her. Eating around other people, especially Naya and Alaina, who she didn't know well enough, made it even worse.

At the very least though, everyone in this room knew that Adeline had a problem with food. Naya and Charlotte didn't know that Alaina knew, but Adeline did. Alaina was seated three seats away with her, with an empty seat and Charlotte in between, and the girl wasn't paying her any mind, but it didn't stop Adeline from feeling like she was somehow watching her. Knowing that Alaina knew, though, made Adeline feel somewhat better, because at least now if she was called out on something by Simone, like how she was pulling the sandwich apart and first only eating the tomato, it wasn't like her secret was being spread to anyone who didn't already know it. "Arrête ça," {Stop that} Simone said to her, flashing her a predictably stern look, when she had moved away from the stove for a few seconds to get plates, and had witnessed Adeline dissecting the food on her plate. She was well aware that she wasn't going to get away with tearing the sandwich to pieces and somehow making it look like she had eaten most of it, but she still felt better tearing off small pieces at a time to eat, rather than just being a normal person and taking a bite out of it.

Charlotte smirked at the girls, mostly because she didn't doubt what either of them said. Naya was definitely too much of a good-two-shoes in Charlotte's opinion, to ever be able to keep up with her, even with Charlotte trying to push her towards the dark side more strongly, and Alaina was just as unenthused by parties like these, that it didn't seem improbable for her to find eating tacos and going to bed to be a better plan. Especially with their high setting in, it didn't sound like a bad deal to Charlotte anyway. "My bed is big enough for the two of us," Charlotte pondered, "And this is Naya's first year as an honorary Arnault.." she continued, leaning forward to look past Alaina and at Naya more directly, "So, you must end up on your own today." Even if socializing with the type of people who would be coming to today's party wasn't Charlotte's cup of tea, it wasn't going to be as bad as she was chalking it up to be. Her father would probably bother her in the beginning about being polite and mingling with his guests, but after the first hour or so, she would be able to disappear with her own friends, and her father would be too consumed with his (and hopefully, a lot of wine too), to bother her.

Only a few more minutes passed before Charlotte watched Simone turn the stove off, pour the seasoned meat into a bowl, and place it in front of them, along with a series of other small bowls with various toppings, and hard and soft taco shells, so that they could make their own tacos. Although it was probably Simone's way of saying "do it yourself", since she couldn't verbally say that to them, the make-your-own setup she had produced was preferable in Charlotte's mind, anyway. No one ever put as much cheese on her tacos as she actually wanted, so now, she was able to pile the toppings as high as she wanted, and she wasted no time in doing so. It had served as enough of a distraction that she didn't even look up when one of their staff members entered and said something about guests. Though the "Miss Arnault" line meant that it was just as possible that she was speaking to her as it was Adeline, Charlotte wasn't expecting anyone, so she didn't waste any energy in looking. When she heard Sydney Vale's voice, however, she turned her head to confirm that it was her. "I don't think I know who I was more grateful to not have to deal with this summer, between the two of them," she muttered to the girls beside her. Sydney never really bothered her, likely only because she was Adeline's sister, but that didn't mean that Charlotte liked her. They kept out of each other's way for the most part, but Charlotte wasn't blind to how controlling and domineering the girl was. She had such an esteemed reputation for a reason, and Charlotte could respect that, but it wasn't one that she was envious of like so many other people. Since Sydney was already starting with her, albeit it indirectly with the reference to the witness protection program lie she had used earlier this summer, Charlotte didn't hesitate to return the favor though. "Aren't you forgetting to say hello to your sister-in-law, Sydney? Unlike the Perssons, the Clarkes and the Arnaults don't keep secrets, so take a seat and tell us what's on your mind," she said, patting the empty seat beside her that Sydney was lingering beside. She doubted that Naya or Alaina wanted to deal with Sydney, but Charlotte couldn't help being obnoxious. She could tell that Adeline was startled and uncomfortable, so why not possibly make everyone else as well?!

Startled really was the best way to describe how Adeline felt when Sydney came in unannounced. Before this summer, Adeline had never spent more than a couple of days without speaking to the blonde, who was undeniably the best friend she had had since she could comprehend what friendship meant. So, in addition to having to adjust to every other element of being abruptly uprooted from home and thrust into a treatment center, it was difficult for her to adjust to spending months apart from her best friend. She loved Sydney and had missed her a lot, and so while she had been incredibly anxious to see her again, only because she knew that the blonde would expect an answer for her disappearance, she had also been incredibly excited to see her. In the moment though, that excitement seemed non-existent, and that was mostly because Adeline was caught off guard, and it didn't take much to sense the contempt in Sydney's voice. The presence of Camilo, someone who Adeline was pretty close with as well, and had wanted to first see on terms when she was more prepared, only threw her off more. Suddenly, she felt like eating ten of the sandwiches in front of her would be less anxiety-inducing than dealing with this, and her sister egging Sydney on wasn't helping matters. She purposely kicked Charlotte in the leg as she turned in her seat and stood up. "Hiiiiiii... no, no, we can walk and talk," she said, clearly anxious as she nodded with certainty.

"Pas avant d'avoir fini de manger." {Not until you finish eating}

Simone's voice was serious enough that Adeline didn't ignore it like she typically would have. "Je vais me tuer et vous blâmer si vous me faites rester ici en ce moment," {I will kill myself and blame you if you make me stay here right now.} she snapped back, turning her head back towards Sydney a second after speaking, only because she knew that there was actually a chance that Simone would get angry at her for being disrespectful. Adeline feared few people, because she struggled with the concept of having to listen to authority, but Simone had been a consistent enough presence in her life that she had probably been reprimanded by her more times than she had by her actual father.

Simone didn't respond as Adeline hurried out of the kitchen with Sydney, though her expression spoke to how the girl was definitely screwed once she ended up alone with Simone again. Charlotte was mildly disappointed that a confrontation hadn't occurred, but with an amazing looking taco in front of her, she couldn't be that upset. "For the non-French speaking folks in the room, that was my completely mentally-stable sister using her infamous, 'I'm going to kill myself if I don't get my way and I'll blame you in the suicide note' line," she explained in a sarcastic, yet nonchalant way, because Adeline's dramatics were really too be expected at this point. Looking to Naya though, she smirked and said, "What do you think Grace would do if you ever used that on her?", before turning to Alaina, "And I don't know how you deal with AJ dating her. I mean, I guess it works to your benefit. I've never read about Gossip Girl trashing you in her blog, so Sydney must be using her connections to keep her sis-in-law safe. God only knows that you deserve to be dragged through the mud for making such a weak taco when you work in a fucking taco shop," she teased, as she looked at the taco on Alaina's plate, which was quite possibly only bare looking because she hadn't finished making it. That didn't stop Charlotte from being obnoxious and annoying and literally flinging a spoonful of shredded cheese at Alaina, though. Maybe she needed to take a few more hits, she minutely considered, because this troublesome energy she was suddenly embracing probably wasn't going to do her good once guests started arriving...

James sighed. Today was supposed to be easy and fun, and so far, it had been, but why did Austin have to kill the vibe now? Jameson knew that if this Sydney thing was bothering him enough to bring it up, it was bothering him a lot, and that meant that he was probably going to be a buzzkill all night, especially once they were on the same property as Sydney, and they had to act the part of a couple, even if they were having problems. To James, it was still baffling that Austin could manage to have (or create, in his opinion) problems, when he was dating Sydney Persson. The Sydney Persson. When you get the chance to date Sydney Persson, you don't allow problems to exist, nonetheless create them yourself. His cousin was a fool, the kind of fool who didn't know what he had until he lost it... and then once he had it back, proceeded to forget how lucky he was. "You don't understand girls because you actually want more than sex from them," James said, taking a chug of his beer before setting it back down on the table beside him. With a sigh, he pulled himself up so that he was no longer laying back on the lounge chair, but sitting instead, so that he could look at AJ on the chair beside him. "Look, man. You've got Sydney-fucking-Persson. Sydney Persson! You know how many guys, myself included, have wanted to tap that ass, but haven't been able to because of your ungrateful 'I don't understand her' self? A lot."He returned to a laying position on the chair, but continued a moment later to say, "So. what I'm saying is that if you continue to fuck up what you were blessed to have, I'm gonna kick your ass."

He was kidding (partially, at least). He and Austin were cousins, and close cousins at that, because James didn't have any siblings. That meant that a real rivalry or issue between them was never going to happen or last. However, that didn't mean that Jameson wasn't serious about how he would give him shit if he continued to overthink his relationship with Sydney. Of course, for Jameson girls had always been easy, and that was because he had never associated emotions with his interactions with them, like Austin did. Sometimes he would start to, but then reassure himself that it was stupid, and that sex was the only thing he needed from a girl. He was sixteen years old; it wasn't like he was looking to get married. Even after only a few years of being a play boy, James was beginning to feel like it was tiring. Sex itself wasn't something he thought he would ever get tired of, but constantly using it and toying with other people's emotions did lose its charm after a while. It wasn't a game that he was looking to abandon just yet, but he would have been lying if he claimed that he wasn't jealous, sometimes, of the depth of real relationships that a select few of his friends, AJ included, seemed to have with their real girlfriends.

"I think I'm gonna make my move on Adeline tonight. Word on the street is that she's making her grand reappearance at this party, and it's about time I hit that," he mused aloud, before finishing off the rest of his beer. Shortly after, a member of the housekeeping staff came by to take their two empty bottles, but Jameson refused the offer for new ones. It was getting late, and sooner than later, they were going to have to go inside to shower and get ready for this party. With their parents attending, they were going to be on their schedule, so they couldn't be running too late. "I could go for Olivia, too," he continued. "I'd throw Esme into the mix too, but we all know Milo's heart would break, and I'm not feeling like an asshole today. I don't think so, at least. I guess we'll wait and see. Hell, if you manage to fuck it up with Sydney, I'll throw her into the pool too,"
he said, offering a playful smirk in AJ's direction at the end, before pulling out his phone to send out a couple of texts.

I'd offer an A 4 effort, but we're also havin tacos if u wanted 2 chill here til later?

It was probably for the best that Naya had her phone as an element of distraction when Sydney and Milo arrived. Just as she was prepared to set her phone down officially and start making her taco from the materials Simone provided, her text tone for Derek went off and Naya divided up her time between answering him and making her first taco. She did, however, look up in the midst of forming that one level of meat at the bottom of her crunchy shell when she heard Sydney's voice. It just so happened that Naya promptly looked back down and refused to make one commentary, not even a chuckle for Charlotte's benefit when her friend acknowledged the queen bee. And judging by Sydney's already frosty tone, it was probably for the better. Naya wouldn't go so far as to say that she was afraid of Sydney. That would be a dramatic assertion - a valid one, but dramatic nonetheless. Naya likened it to intimidation; it felt less mortifying and less like she was feeding into the ego she had heard Sydney had. Despite being the same age and in the same grade, Naya innately felt their differences whenever she was in the same space as Sydney Persson and while she had yet to actually make a fool of herself in the girl's presence, she was adamant about not giving the girl any type of fuel in the near future. So, other than shaking her head at Charlotte trying to goad the girl, between her conversation with Derek and fixing up a bomb ass taco to chase her margarita, Naya was content to pretend as if Sydney hadn't even entered the room.

"Ummmm, considering the fact that Alaina works with authentic Mexican tacos on a regular, I'm pretty sure yours is the weak one since real tacos don't come with all that cheese," Naya commented smartly, adding a dollop of sour cream to her creation which included lettuce, cheese, and salsa. The salsa already had tomatoes in it and Naya liked tomatoes, but there was only so much she actually enjoyed before it became too much. Naya still preferred the authentic tacos she'd had in the past to the ones most American households made, but she had no issue with eating what was provided. Especially when it smelled as scrumptious as it did. "Knowing Gigi, though, if I ever said that to her, she'd probably just volunteer to help just so she could get the insurance money," she added and bit into her taco, a few pieces of lettuce and cheese falling back onto her plate. Despite still having a little bit in her mouth, Naya was just about to take another bite when her text tone went back off and she hurried to snatch up a napkin, set her taco down, and was wiping at her fingers and chewing what she had left when she peered down to see who had messaged her. Her cheeks were set aflame immediately afterwards.

Naya didn't know how long this James-Airth-knowing-she-existed thing was going to continue, but it never failed to still surprise her when he wound up texting her. It was always foolishness on his part, but texting her nonetheless. And it was confusing. And aggravating - very aggravating. And apparently gross today, judging from the mood she was guessing he was in from the text. Naya drained half of her margarita and was actually very much prepared to text him her very thought process, that he was gross and he honestly needed to leave her out of his thot ways, but liquid courage was a mischievous bitch that had her smirking and producing something else entirely.

Alaina shrieked when she felt a handful of shredded cheese come her way. She turned to Charlotte with a devilish grin, her arm beginning to extend towards the lettuce before Naya's witty comment allowed her to feel sufficed enough to sit back down and place the lettuce on her taco and not on her friend. Naya was probably right, even if she was joking, but Alaina actually didn't care that much. Simply because she loved tacos just that much. She obviously knew a bad taco when she saw or tasted one, but when it came down to corn versus flour tortilla or hard or soft shell, she wasn't so particular. She wasn't very elitist about much, and tacos were no exception. She was very flexible with this odd liking of hers, though that wasn't to say that even she had her moments where she wanted a real authentic taco. Most other times, it was just a matter of nuance, like now. She had taco materials in front of her (and the margarita was an obvious bonus) so she was elated. So much that the guilt she had been feeling just seconds before was slowly beginning to dissipate, for the time being, as she went ahead and grabbed a hard shell taco and began preparing that one.

Just before she was able to complain about the lack of la salsa verde, to her surprise, Sydney and Milo looked in, the former looking as though someone had already done something to piss her off. It went without saying that Sydney wasn't her favorite person, and even Alaina could admit to being cold to the girl, even when Sydney herself was being cordial (which was always around family). Alaina wasn't going to take that into consideration though, because she felt that being kind to your boyfriend's family was a requirement, not something that deserved recognition, which was part of the reason why Alaina was purposely cooler to the girl in the presence of family. But even Alaina had her limits and she wasn't so pressed about the girl dating her brother after years of them dating. That wasn't to say that she had warmed up to the girl, but rather the sour taste of the girl's presence and involvement in her life (albeit it only being through her brother, and even then contact was minimal) had become tolerable, just not enjoyable. Oddly enough, Alaina typically felt more inclination to be cold towards Sydney when they were around her family. It was really just Alaina playing her cards and using the home turf to her advantage, though she was never so out of line as to really be abnormally crass to the girl. It was just her way of challenging the girl and not for any particular reason. It wasn't a matter of power or revenge, but Alaina didn't respect the girl enough to not use it to her advantage. And more often than not, Alaina was the one who ended up paying for it because there had certainly been more than one occasion where she was scorned for not being the friendliest to Sydney when she was their guest. Now, she was more or less used to the girl and she tended towards just ignoring her presence altogether, save a few slick remarks that Alaina was never known for being able to withhold from no matter who the person on the receiving end was. In the Arnault's house, she knew better on how to act. Sure, Sydney wasn't her favorite person, and after having a few clues that her and her brother's relationship was more on the toxic side (though she didn't even consider AJ's own involvement in it) the girl definitely didn't fare better off in her mind, but with that being said, Alaina didn't despise the girl. She wasn't going to really go out of her way to make it known each time she saw her that she disliked her. The reasoning for this was less congratulatory than it sounded, though, because Alaina could be very non-committal, especially when there was little benefit for her. And jabbing at Sydney every chance she got not only provided her very little benefit, but what little it did give was fleeting. It also sometimes came down to her mood, and Alaina firstly wasn't in the instigating mindset, but most importantly she had food in front of her. Her love for tacos far surpassed her disdain for Sydney Perrson.

That was why Alaina rolled her eyes at Charlotte and not at Sydney, and if the girl had been closer, she would had pinched her side because she didn't want to be acknowledged by Sydney just as much as she didn't want to acknowledge the girl herself. Luckily, her sister and the girl's puppeteer disappeared without much stir and Alaina could only shake her head in anticipation for what the rest of the day would be like because even she couldn't miss Sydney seeming very...Sydney to Adeline. It wasn't any of Alaina's business, and she didn't think it was anything deep, so she decided to mind her own business and focus on the food in front of her. "Dressed to impress Milo," Alaina said, though she turned to the girls with an amused smile that was obviously improperly timed because it probably seemed like there was some inside joke between the three of them that had something to do with Milo's attire. In general, Alaina didn't bother with the 'A-listers', nor did she ever refer to them as such. Of them, though, Milo seemed the least harmful. She actually thought he was really sweet and was sometimes confused on how and why he rolled with the people he rolled with. Her brother was obviously a part of that crew, but again, Alaina didn't see her brother as being as bad as the others in the group which was clearly due to her own bias, but she also felt like she crucified her brother enough about her affiliation choices. "Help yourself to a taco," Alaina said, scooting one of the plates forward just half an inch. "You know A.J. isn't here, right? He's at James'." She leaned forward to look at Charlotte then, her brow raised in slight confusion. "Wait, who all is coming?"

╚ THE QUEEN BEE ╝

Outfit: Here
Location: Adeline's Bedroom
Dialogue Color: #209DC7
Though Sydney didn't expect anything different, she was pleased when Adeline seemed insistent on leaving the kitchen. Sydney knew a limited amount of Spanish; an amount that was impressive for someone who only knew it from school classes, but not enough to be called fluent, and she was mostly fluent in Swedish, but she didn't know French. She could pick up on a few words, simply from hearing Adeline speak to her father for years and years, and also from her own travels to the country, but not enough to truly understand quick back and forths, as was occurring here with Adeline and her chef. It didn't matter what was said, though, because without needing to make another sweetly-spoken threat, Adeline was leading her out of the kitchen. Sydney appreciated it not only because she wanted to speak in private, but also because she was in no mood to deal with Adeline's sister, who clearly was in the mood to put on a show today. Sydney had no problem with putting her in her place, but there was no denying that it was a more uncomfortable thing to do, given how close she was with Adeline. Unfortunately, the extent of their friendship had forced her to deal with Charlotte and her antics with little more than an eye roll.

She looked Adeline up and down as they walked upstairs to her bedroom. She looked healthy. She had put on a little bit of weight, maybe, but she was still stick thin. Had she been much thinner in the spring? Sydney normally thought of herself as being an observant person, and she was. How had she missed the signs? She had asked herself those kinds of questions countless times this summer, but it was hard not to run through the spiel in her head again, now that Adeline was standing right in front of her. She casually took a seat on one of the white chairs by the window once they reached the girls bedroom, and she smiled. It fell comfortably into place on her face, but it wasn't one that was necessarily there out of pure joy. In a twisted way, Sydney surely did like the feeling of power and control that this conversation came with. She had the upper hand, and Adeline had to answer to her, not the other way around. Typically, that wasn't something that Sydney liked exploiting when it came to her friends, but she felt like it was only fair given the lack of transparency, and in Sydney's opinion, disrespect and disregard that Adeline had shown their friendship this summer. "Did it only take a summer away for you to forget that I hate waiting?" Sydney said, breaking the silence that she felt had existed for a few seconds too long once they reached her bedroom. "One can only hope that you didn't forget how much I hate liars, too." She was going to give Adeline one chance to be honest with her. She owed her that much, at least, she decided.

ADELINE ▿ ARNAULT

Location: Adeline's Bedroom
Dialogue Color: #7957C2

"I didn't have any choice in being gone all summer. It wasn't my fault." Adeline was very adamant in feeling that way, and in truth, she didn't have a choice. She didn't know that the private plane she was boarding in June was going to take her to a state where she would then be driven to a treatment facility. She thought that she was on her way to California to visit her mother, and she literally believed that until she got into the airport in Illinois and realized that she wasn't at LAX. To claim that it wasn't her fault was definitely aligned with her typical victim mentality. It was her fault that she hadn't accepted any of the preliminary help her father had pushed her towards a couple of months or so before that, and that she had continued to allow her illness to fester into something uncontrollable. She wouldn't accept responsibility for it, even today, but no one else could really be blamed for it.

At this point, Adeline wasn't necessarily opposed to telling Sydney the truth. It felt inevitable, to an extent, but additionally, she wanted Sydney to know. Despite the cold air that was suddenly filling the room, they were best friends. Adeline trusted Sydney. She told her nearly everything. The only reason that she hadn't told her about her illness before this summer, was because she didn't think she had one. She didn't think that she was skinny enough or sick enough to qualify as having an eating disorder, and she didn't want people to worry about her or try to regulate her. The last thing she wanted, really, was anyone judging what she looked like, and she knew that that was what was going to come out of revealing something like this. Now that she had been through what felt like hell and back, admitting to it was less of a burden, but she still didn't know how to actually say it. In the past few days, she actually almost felt like she had PTSD, as dramatic as that sounded, because thinking about how she had spent her summer almost immediately elicited tears and emotions from her. She knew that she didn't want to start crying now, but even if she wasn't actually upset, the anxiety that she was feeling made her feel like her throat was closing up, and that it was only a matter of time before the waterworks began.

She perched herself on the edge of her bed, her posture tight with tension as she looked almost everywhere but at Sydney. "My dad's new wife," she began, because she definitely was not in a place lately where she would consider calling Grace anything that had the word "mom" attached to it, "Convinced him that their summer would be better off without me in it. She basically dramatized an issue and claimed that I had some full blown eating disorder when it's never been that deep, and my dad tricked me into getting onto a plane that brought me to some treatment facility in Illinois." Okay, that wasn't that hard, she thought, but still, she didn't think that she could look directly at Sydney without crying until she had finished saying that. It wasn't a lie, at least not in her mind. At this point, she knew that she did have a bit of a problem last spring, at least by a doctor's standard, and not her own, but that was over and done with, she told herself, so she didn't want to make it seem like that big of a deal still. "And so that was where I was until this past Sunday, and I've basically been in bed since then. I just needed a few days to get myself together, which was why I wasn't in school, and I didn't reach out because..." This was another sentence that had her eyes drifting from the blonde, because part of her was sure that Sydney was more angry about her silence than her actual disappearance. "...I just didn't know how to like... explain myself. I knew you were going to be mad at me, and I obviously didn't want you to be mad at me, but I just didn't know what to say to, like, explain why I just disappeared like that. I just really don't want anyone finding out about where I was. It's stupid and embarrassing and I don't want people to think I'm crazy... I don't know." By that point, tears were streaming down Adeline's cheeks before she even realized it enough to stop them. She was an emotional person by nature, but stress always made it worse.

╚ THE QUEEN BEE ╝

Outfit: Here
Location: Adeline's Bedroom
Dialogue Color: #209DC7
As easy as it was to relic into the name "Ice Queen", and her reputation of being so controlled and cold that she seemed emotionless, Sydney had a heart. Especially when it came to Adeline, the closest thing she would ever have to a sister. While Sydney often probably seemed heart on Adeline (partially because she was, and partially because Adeline just tended to be so damn emotional and dramatic), she was also the person that Sydney would protect at all costs. It was sort of like those sibling relationships where it was okay for siblings to be mean to each other, but the second that anyone else did it, they deserved to be punched in the face without a single question asked. And seeing Adeline crying, despite Sydney feeling like it was unwarranted in the situation, automatically melted her ice cold heart. "No one's going to find out," she stated calmly, though notably softer than how she had been speaking earlier. "Esme knows, but only because Charlotte told her," she said. It was a lie, but she wasn't going to reveal how Esme truly knew. She didn't think that it was that deep, and she didn't feel inclined to protect Esme's source, but she didn't want it to seem like Esme had been trying to snoop, and also, Charlotte deserved a little extra drama in her life for testing her a few minutes ago. "Other than that, no one else will find out," she insisted. Despite loving Adeline, being comforting wasn't something that Sydney was very good at. It was hard for her to get all soft and mushy, and that was frustrating during times like these, when she knew that that kind of response was appropriate. "Seriously, please don't be upset and kill my vibe today," was the closest thing that Sydney could verbalize to mean "please don't cry, it upsets me to see you hurt".

"We do have some real catching up to do," she followed with quickly, deciding that a conversation change was necessary at this point. "I'm going to have someone bring my outfit over, so we can catch up while we get ready," she said, feeling comfortable enough with Adeline to not even ask permission. As she texted her driver to return to her house to pick up the pieces of her outfit for the party that had been sent out here a few days before, she noticed the text from AJ as well. She texted him back, before looking back to Adeline with a more genuine smile. "I did miss you. Esme surprisingly stepped up to the plate in many ways, but she didn't fill my Adeline void."

To: AJ
I'll put on a happy face for the party, don't worry. Just try not to be such a selfish and entitled idiot today,
because I'm not in the mood.
