On the 7th September 1940, the German Luftwaffe began their strategic and relentless bombings of major industrial cities across the British Isles. Every night bar one for ten solid weeks, London, Southampton, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Birmingham, Nottingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Hull, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Belfast were all relentlessly bombed by Nazi forces. London bore the brunt of these attacks with 5,300 tonnes of explosives being dropped upon the capital within 24 days.
The tabloids called this time ‘the Blitz’ a German word for lightening, however for the people who tried to survive it, it was known as hell. The casualties were in the thousands, most of these were women and children, all innocent victims of a tyrant’s fascist regime-the raids were sent to break morale, but if anything it increased the British morale.
Tenacity and comradely shone through daily, acts of friendship and kinship banded together to face the fury of Hitler’s bomb. War was on their doorstep, but life went on, people went to work in the factories and stores, children went to school, soldiers enjoyed their leave, people continued to laugh and make merry; everyday these people stood tall in the face of adversity, they would cave, they would not break and nothing would break their spirits. This was truly their finest hour.

Gracie is a woman who tries to live her life to the fullest, as long as she can look back at the end of her life knowing that she wasted not, she will die a happy woman. Despite the war going on around her she is rather blasé about it, she thinks it more than a hindrance than a concern and just about refuses to talk about it at all costs. She grew up in the seaside town of Dover, Kent and was raised by her spinster Aunt after her parents died in a car accident. Upon her aunt’s death and with the money she inherited, Gracie moved to London with dreams of becoming a singer. Of course her life didn’t exactly plan out the way she wanted it to, managing to rent a room from Sophia in the East End of the city, she took a job of a barmaid at a local pub whilst she looked for singer openings. That was three years ago and despite her ultimate aim, Gracie has found that she quite likes working at the pub, it accentuates all of her positive traits and she even gets to sing now and again, plus the steady stream of soldiers and alcohol is quite enough to keep her entertained.

For Sophia living life to the full simply isn’t enough, she wants to go beyond that if it’s possible. She would not be content in living what she deems a normal life, she is one for pushing boundaries and striving for things that others may deem unattainable-her ultimate goal is to become a journalist. Sophia was born and raised in London, to a rather upper middle class family, she was given the finest education money could buy, but she would rather take her chances on the streets than live a life of pompous classism and that’s exactly what she did. Upon turning twenty, Sophia decided that enough was enough and left her family home, only taking enough money to find somewhere to live and she set off in the world. At first it was probably harder than she would have liked to have admitted, but she easily landed a job at the war office as a typist, it wasn’t exactly what she had hoped for but it was enough for now. A year after, Gracie Keaton came knocking on her door acquiring about the spare room she had to rent, the pair hit it off immediately and have fast become near enough inseparable, but be warned they are a force to be messed with.

Richard was a man who seemed to have the world at his finger tips, his family were some of the wealthier people in the seaside town of Dover, he received a good education but was by no means considered pompous by the rest of the town, in fact it was a rather close knit community where everyone helped. Only a few years older than Gracie, the pair use to play together and were quite good friends, however when Richard left for university the pair lost contact and by the time he had returned she had already left Dover for London. When the war came about in 1939, Richard was one of the first to sign up; he joined the 4th Infantry Division and after training was sent to France. He did not see much fighting in France in the early parts of the war, although other divisions had it hard the 4th were always seemed be kept out of immediate danger, something which infuriated him immensely. Like the remainder of the British and allied forces, Richard was evacuated back to the UK at Dunkirk in June 1940 and sent to London with the rest of his division where they await their orders.

William was born into a mining family in the North of England; his life wasn’t fancy or glamorous, quite the opposite really, growing up in the crowded mining community was a hard life, especially after the death of his father. Even so Will had things just that little bit better than most; he was handsome and charismatic, easily charming his way into most people’s heart. With his wit and hard working nature, people instantly warm to Will and it was not long before he established himself around his neighbourhood, he was known as a sweet talker, the kind of bloke which mothers warned their daughters about but the kind who made the mothers blush too. Like Richard, Will signed up almost immediately and was assigned to the 4th Infantry, where he quickly befriended Richard, despite their obvious difference if class. His military story is more or less the same to that of Richard’s, he served in France before Dunkirk and now resides with his division in London awaiting their orders.
As of now there are only four characters, I have done it this way to see how much interest this RP generates, should it be popular more characters will be added. That being said, if you have a good idea for characters then don’t hesitate to PM me, I am interested to hear what you have in mind.
