Introduction

Hinsegin Private High School was founded over half a century ago by right-wing zealots who wished to shelter their children from the growing Civil Rights movement. A good deal of its students were raised in conservative, Westboro Baptist Church-esque homes. A few only attend because it's the closest nearby school. Regardless, the place thrives on hate speech and homophobia, making the hallways a legitimately dangerous place for the small underground LGBT community.

2010, after gay rights have significantly progressed in the United States, one student seeks to change the way the school is run, flattening out the hierarchy and rising above a community that will never fully accept him/her.

CHARACTERS NEEDED:
- The revolutionary student. I do not care if this student is male, female, gay, bisexual, trans, etc- as long as they are LGBT.
- At LEAST 5 other LGBT students.
- Other students. May be homophobic.
- Teachers/parents/authority figures.

Rules

No portraying homophobia in a positive light, thank you. ^^

Jenna rode home on her bicycle on her way back from the park. As she opened the door to her middle class suburban home, the local radio was on full volume, but her father was somehow able to hear her coming in.

He acknowledged her with a nod and a friendly greeting. Jenna held back a wince when he used the hated name. Jeffrey. She knew that tomorrow she was going back to school at the most conservative school in the district, and perhaps the state; she would be getting a lot more of it. Jeffrey. She couldn't have been named something even slightly feminine, like Jackie. Meanwhile the radio continued on its long rambling about something-or-other going on in the next town.

"A gay pride parade just recently marched through our neighbor county," the speaker said. "Over 220 participants, flying those rainbow colours..."

Although Jenna's ears perked up at that, she could swear she heard her dear dad muttering about "those disgusting f****ts" under his breath, and he clutched his newspaper a little tighter. Jenna decided then to shut herself in her room before he got past muttering. She was trans, and bi, and she was going to have to get used to it. That's what she told herself as she went to sleep.

Kylynn was sitting on the side of the stair rail watching everyone as they streamed into the school and she sighed. She was bored and wanting for something to happen already as she waited and waiting. Having a good idea that would at least give her a rush for half a minute she leaned back over the rail her knees hooked on the top as she swung upiside down. Some people began to scream thinking she was a jumper and when she looked she caught the eye of a person off at the end. She could tell that it was a guy sort of but thinking about it too much hurt her head and the blood was rushing quickly. She pushes off with her knees and flipped in the air before landing quietly onto the ground accidently knocking over a girls books. The girl looked at Kylynn pissed and started yelling at her as Kylynn walked away laughing on her way to her first class.

"Meghan if you don't hurry up you're going to be late for your first day of school, you want to make a good first impression remember?" The heavy New York accent of the teenagers mother seemed to echo through the hallway. It was the official first day of school and Meghan couldn't have been more unenthusiastic if she tried. Between unpacking her things last night, which was mainly still in boxes around her new room, she'd been on the phone all night, talking to friends she hoped to see again soon. The move was depressing and it took everything in her not to go insane. It was such a cultural difference between New York and the South, she wasn't liking it so far and wished they could rewind time and go back home. "I'm coming, gimme a sec!" She managed to mumble, shuffling across her room to a box of clothes. She didn't have the time, nor did she want to put any effort, into her attire so she picked up a pink v-neck shirt, a lacy tanktop, and a pair of ripped shorts and threw them on.

It took a few seconds to draw on some eyeliner and cherry flavored lipgloss, after that she was dashing out of her room, taking the stairs two at a time. In the kitchen she grabbed a bagel and stuffed it in her mouth, snatching her messenger bag off of the counter. "I'll try to enjoy myself." She gave her mother a rib-cracking hug and talked with a mouth full of food. Caroline shook her head at her daughter and watched as she darted out the front door. In the driveway was her beloved car, nothing fancy, ust an old silver Camry, but it got her where she needed to go. Peeling out of the driveway she was off to school, blasting music the entire time to wake her up.

Once Meghan found a parking space she hesitated to get out and thought about skipping for the day, but that voice in the back of her head told her to stop being a wuss and get moving. Sighing once she grabbed her bag and headed inside, curious as to what kind of people she would encounter. She had no idea where she was going so her first stop was the main office to get a class schedule.

Jenna silently braced herself for the overwhelming tide of a new school, new classes, and of course, the homophobia. "Male in three, two, one," she muttered. She was Jeffrey now. Just a geeky boy among the crowd of jocks, and the pretty girls that she wished she could be. She had seen a girl do a flip off the building; probably the most interesting thing she was going to see all day. She should get to know the girl... but then again, not. No need for false impressions.

It occured to Jeffrey that the labyrinth of halls was lost on her, and that if she couldn't find a map she should at least get a class schedule. What didn't occur to her was asking for directions- years of Gender Identity Disorder had made her something of a recluse.

The administration office should be to her left, as she had learned on a school tour a week or so ago when there weren't so many people. As she dashed across the campus to the door, she ran blindly into a redheaded girl as tall as she was just out of getting her own class schedule.

Kylynn walked into the classroom and was instantly sent back to the office for the earlier stunt. She sighed lightly bored with the school already and thought about just skipping for a semester. Walking into the office she saw the boy earlier and a girl both looking lost and very confused. Kylynn went over to them and was about to say something when the principal yanked her by her arm taking her away.
"Hey hey watch it! What the matter with you lady noone even got hurt chill down or whatever.."
She was tossed into a chair as the door was slammed and locked, she looked around the room seeing the girl whos books she had knocked over earlier. Kylynn rolled her eyes and layed back in the chair waiting for the verbal abuse that was positivly going to come.

Meghan looked down at the schedule, dread sweeping over her, chemistry and algebra 2 back-to-back? She groaned inwardly, narrowing her eyes at the crudely drawn map of the school she just got from the office. She flipped it, turned it sideways, upside down again, but no matter what angle you looked at it from, it just didn't make much sense. Refusing to be frustrated so early in the morning the red-head crumpled up the map and shoved it into her pocket, deciding she'd probably have better luck if she just tried to find it herself.

As soon as Meghan turned the corner she almost instantly collided with another student. Falling backwards she cushioned her fall, or atleast tried to, with her hands, her palms made a smacking noise as the saved her from hitting her head. Someone else may have jumped to get an attitude but she instead found herself giggling, getting up and wiping her hands on her jeans. "Ouch, are you okay?" She looked at the boy who ran into her, stiffling further giggle fits. The brown-eyed girl retrived her messenger bag, which had fallen off her shoulder, and extended a hand to help the boy up. "It's my first day here and I'm all turned around, you wouldn't happen to know where chemistry class is would you?"

Jeffrey didn't respond for a moment, dazed. "Chemistry...? I think it's down on the other side of campus..." The knowledge she had picked up from the tour was hardly helping her now. "And, um, sorry for running into you like that."

"Oh great I'm on the completely wrong side then." Meghan slapped her forehead, showing newly painted electric blue fingernails. "Don't worry about it, it's just as much my fault as it is yours," she giggled again and decided to introduce herself, she figured she might as well try to make atleast an aquaintance or two instead of being completely miserable by herself. "I'm Meghan Hawthorne, my family just moved all the way down here from New York and I'm still in a bit of culture shock." She laughed again, shaking her dark red locks. "I went to the office to get directions but the evil lady behind the desk didn't do a very goood job at explaining things. Anyway enough about my life story, I'll see you around...uh...," she waited to get his name instead of just dashing off.

A screaming lecture later Kylynn walked out sighing running her hair through her hands clomping out of the office. She picked up her schedule that was newly given to her as a punishment she stared at it boredly.
"Oh jeez cooking? Sewing? These are so chick classes"
Kylynn grimaces walking out into the hall that was mostly empty now she looked around wondering where to go since she had memorized only where she was suppose to go on her old schedule.
"No one eve got hurt jeez like I care if the girls books got knocked over shes a jerk anyways"

"Je- um, Jeffrey," she said quickly. "Yeah." That was close. She had almost used her girl name. Well, Meghan seemed nice. Moving from New York to a place like this couldn't have been easy on her. "Well, I guess I'll see you around," she said somewhat nervously. "At lunch, maybe." She hurried inside to pick up her schedule, almost running into another redhead on her way. She recognized the second girl as the one who had jumped earlier. Probably facing the consequences. She was brave, though, standing out in a community that was fundamentally based on conformity.

A few minutes later, Jeffrey was scanning over her schedule. Sewing. Cooking. She grinned. Girl classes, it looked like she hadn't ended up in Wood Shop like her father had wanted, and she could just blame it on a glitch in the schedule.

In the end Kylynn found her class which was cooking. She tried to look on the bright side of it.
*No more diggin through trash cans for breakfast...I guess and new clothes too I guess*
She sighed knowing it wouldnt happen for a while and thanks to what she did earlier no one would get near her not labeled a loser by the stupid girl who clearly ran the social part of the school. Kylynn rolled her eyes not really careing and was a little happy that at least she wouldnt have to share with a popular wannabe or anything. She sighed looking down at her stomach as it grumbled and hoped theyd start making things soon.

Jeffrey found her way to cooking class, after about ten minutes of wandering around lost. The classroom was sterile, adorned by several flat white counters, a few simple sinks, a fridge, and supply cupboards. Most of the students had already found their way in, and surrounded the young teacher as she gave them their first directions. At one of the counters, Jeffrey caught the eye yet again of the girl she had seen jump. Seeing it better to sit with someone she knew even remotely well rather than a complete stranger, she decided to introduce herself. God help her if the redhead was too friendly.

Having dozed off slightly during the class Kylynn jumped hearing the person sit next to her. She turned to see the male she had seen earlier that looked kinda like a girl and smiled lightly. He seemed alright not all up tight and testy looking like everyone else she had seen since coming here. He seemed like he just got here too and kinda lost which made her not feel like the dumbest person there or lonely.
"Hey Im Kylynn and dont know if this is bad or not but your really pretty...Ever think about letting your hair grow out? Youd look good in curls"

Jeffrey jumped slightly at Kylynn's observation. She imagined what her dad's reaction would be if she told him. Hey dad, a cute girl at school told me that I should grow out my hair, whaddaya think? That would make for an interesting conversation. She smiled shyly at the girl. "Thank you. Well... I think that you're pretty too... and do you want to sit together, because frankly I don't know shit about what's going on." She grinned sheepishly. "I didn't sign up for this class, actually... my dad wanted me to take Wood Shop, but I like it here. You?" She seemed nice enough. Maybe they could be friends, after all.

"Um, I'm Jeffrey," Jenna said. She was not going to make the same mistake that she did with the other redheaded girl. The class was just starting and the teacher stood at the head of the room, explaining how to properly use the equipment. They would be making cookies today...
Jenna looked back at her new aquaintance, who didn't seem to be paying attention in the least. She was wearing a cute t-shirt... Like, really cute. "Hey..." Jenna began somewhat shyly once the teacher was done lecturing. "You know, that shirt is adorable. Where'd you-" Crap. Did she really just say that out loud?

"Really? If you want to borrow it I know where your house is I could wash it and pick you up tomorrow if you dad doesnt remember me! But I made this myself."
She smiled thinking she might have a friend for once in her life. She looked up seeing everyone else was getting things out she shrugged and just started making the cookies humming to herself.

Jeffrey nearly laughed out loud herself. Borrow a shirt from a girl she had just met? Not that she would mind, but it would create a somewhat awkward situation with her parents. The last time she had tried wearing girl clothes hadn't exactly ended well. Nevertheless... "I could probably recreate the shirt in sewing class," Jeffrey said, half joking. "Maybe a matching skirt..." Perhaps she had gone too far. She glanced back at the other girl for any weird reactions. "I'm joking of course," she lied hurriedly.

She smiles lightly at the male a thought in the back of her head that stuck there quickly.
"But a skirt would look cute on you you have the bone structure and all. And if you want I could help make one and ya know if you take me to your parents it could just look like your tryin to score a girl by getting her to tutor on a class you didnt want. I mean I know you want them but you know keep your parents out of anything you dont want them in yet?"

Kristin entered the attendence office and immediately rolled her eyes when she heard the conversation going on between what looked like the secretary and the principal.

"I really don't know what's wrong with those boys. Kissing in the middle of the hallway, where everyone can see it? It's disgusting!" the secretary said, obviously not caring about the dignity of the boys in question.

"May God have mercy on their souls..." the principal said in response. "I know I don't." He jumped a bit as Kristin slammed the door shut, quietly wishing she were somewhere else.

"I need my schedule" she said, getting right to the point. "Can either one of you help me?" Can both of you stop humiliating your students and help me? she really wanted to say.

The secretary smiled and waved the girl forward. "Of course, dear. What is your name?"

"Kristin Foley."

"Ah, Foley, Foley..." The secretary said to herself. "Here we go!" The woman clicked her mouse three times, and a few seconds later Kristin's schedule was printing out. The secretary snatched it up from the printer tray and handed it over to Kristin with a smile. "Your first class is cooking. It's just down the hall, you can't miss it."

"But hurry up," the principal said, holding open the door for her. "You're already twenty minutes late."

Kristin grabbed her schedule and shot the man a semi-dirty look. "Oh, really," she said before shooting down the hall. Just what I need, she thought to herself. Another team of homophobic dumbasses in my life...

After getting a mini-lecture on how being late was not a mature thing to do on the first day of school, Kristin walked over to the table that very excited girl waved her over to before. She didn't recognize her as she got closer, but the girl was acting like they were old friends having been reunited.

Marvelous, Kristin thought. She then realized there was another person at the table. He looked happy, but way out of place in his clothes. Kristin didn't dwell on it as she was asked her name. "Kristin. Just Kristin. Nothing else."

Great. One of those, Kristin thought. Such a shame she's cute... "I had my best friend pick my classes, so, in all honesty, I don't carry an opinion about any of them. I'm perfectly content with knowing how to make cereal; I'll leave the steak and lobster to the pros." Pulling out her schedule, Kristin began to examine the rest of her classes. Everything required of sophomores was on it, as well as the class she was currently in, movie making, and...

Yeah, because I'm going to learn how to play the friggin' piccolo in a week, she thought to herself, grimacing slightly after seeing she was in the marching band.
