Personality:
When people talk about Quinn, they never talk about the archer Quinn. It's always about sweet, reliable Quinn. She's generally friendly and nice. While she isn't the life of the party, she'll always be seen at one and knows how to have a good time. She likes to see people smile and she loves to laugh. She looks like the girl who doesn't need much to satisfy her and just loves to be alive. She is and she doesn't like drama. But that doesn't mean she's one to back down. Cheerleading gave her confidence and with that confidence came a fiery young woman that does not back down. You can't bully her. People have tried, but Quinn is not easily intimidated and will gladly mouth off at you until you realize who you're messing with.
What people won't talk about is the Quinn that comes out when she's in competition mode. Once she's at a cheerleading competition or archery contest, there is no play time for Quinn. Once she's in the zone, Quinn is IN the zone. There is NO getting her out of it. She's extremely competitive and that fieriness that was mentioned earlier...it's blazing in her eyes at this point. She hates losing and she has near perfect aim. So, don't be surprised when you find yourself out of the game and its her fault. She is a take-no-nonsense type of girl in war zones and she takes charge easily. She is a natural born leader; everyone knows this. The problem with this is that Quinn's confidence can lead to cockiness and she might be fifty steps ahead of the team. And that's not a good thing because if her mind is too wrapped up in the present and the whole take-action-now thing, she forgets to have a back-up plan. That happens in everyday life s well. Quinn doesn't take stress or losing well and is prone to emotional breakdowns.
To put it plainly, Quinn is a wreck. Despite the dimpled smile and the beam of brightness in those light brown eyes, Quinn has more emotional scars than she lets on. She had to deal with her father's illness and her mother's subsequent death. She's been moved to this town, far away from her past and the life she had before. So, she seems guarded to some despite the kindness she exudes. She no longer trusts easily and that's hard for a girl who actually wants a boyfriend or real friends. She just doesn't want to fail. Failing...failing scares the living crap out of her. If she fails at something as simple as shooting an arrow or a test, what if she fails as a human being like her father?
History
Quinn was born to a cop and a soldier. It's not a surprise that she's very good at long-distance shooting. She grew up adoring her mother. Before her mother's death, everyone that knew them knew that Quinn loved her mother more than life itself. When her father left for Afghanistan, she clung to her mother and stayed at the woman's side. When her father returned, he was not the same man Quinn knew. She'd catch him seeing things and hearing things. He'd talk about how much you couldn't trust anyone and that he was only doing what was right for his family. Her mother advised him to see a psychiatrist, he slapped the living daylights out of her. Quinn was ten at the time and was actually terrified of him.
During her pre-teen years, her father perfected her archery. He got her a private coach and Quinn competed in several junior competitions. Her mom used to hate the seriousness that Quinn had to deal with from the man and let her start gymnastics. For Quinn, tumbling was a welcome escape from having to work out with her Dad and shoot stuff. He grew scarier each day and her mom didn't know what to do. When she was fifteen, her old childhood friend was over for dinner. Her Dad told the story of a rabid dog that her grandmother brutally killed. It nearly put Quinn to tears and she tried to make him stop, but he only snapped at her to shut up and grow up. A few days later, they found the body of one of Quinn's teachers buried in the woods, mangled.
Last year, Quinn started staying away from home more often per her mother's request. She'd make excuses that she had study groups to her Dad and that she needed to spend the night with friends. She knew he was suspicious and feared for her mother when she had to go for a cheer competition. When Quinn returned home, her father was eating steak and there was this awful smell permeating the air. He shrugged about it nonchalantly and appeared unfeeling when she expressed the desire to see her mom. Knowing she wasn't going to get a straight answer, Quinn followed the smell and screamed in horror. Her mother was on the living room floor, mangled and dead. It broke Quinn's heart and she ran from the house to a family friend to call the police. Her father was put in an asylum and since her mother had no siblings, Quinn was sent to live with her mother's best friend. It didn't matter that she had brought home a gold medal for both the cheer competition and archery. Her mom - her rock - was gone.
Since then, they moved. The woman didn't want Quinn anywhere near that life and pushed for her to go to the academy when she was accepted. For a long time, Quinn felt powerless, weak. So, she was pushed for psychiatric help and took martial arts to vent. She was back on her feet, even though she still has nightmares. She wants more than anything to move on.
