Name: Saskia Loraine Philips
Age: 34
Physical Description: Saskia is approximately 5’9 and about 150 lbs. Not particularly impresses by the current wafer thin body image trend going on Seskia is quite proud of her more rounded appearance particularly around the tummy. Her choice to embrace the cookie, rather than denounce it, certainly never hurt her good looks and healthy figure. Due to the nature of her Job Saskia is commonly seen in business attire and due to force of habit will often get dressed like she’s going to go out even if she’s staying in. Not one to like to fuss to much with make up and hair she’s chosen to keep her hair short and her make up more on the minimal side. Some lip stick, mascara, eyliner, and done.
Power: Able to tell directly when someone is lying. (Note: this could later develop into a form of telepathy I’m thinking.)
Strengths: Excellent memory for faces and places, has a great deal of patience, and is very practical.
Weaknesses: Anxiety prone when unexpected things happen out side of her control, can’t remember names to save her life, has great difficulty breaking from routine.
Brief History: Born in London Saskia came over to America to go to college on a student exchange program and after gaining her degree as a paralegal decided she liked the States enough to stay indefinitely. Finding work was harder then expected however given that every time Saskia got settled in a law firm the group either folded or ended up cutting back their staffing. In an effort to ensure that her bills were paid Saskia took a course in Legal Transcription and used that to supplement her income. This became her main career ambition as the Brit discovered she had an excellent ear for the job and that she could make more money working for herself then with a company. Happy with her routine existence Saskia eventually bought a bungalow and adopted a feline named Cat.
Any other important details: Saskia was involved in a very serious relationship with a man by the name of Daniel. They had planned on getting married after both had finished college and where in the middle of buying a house together when Daniel left their apartment for a quick grocery store run never to come back. His unexplained disappearance was deeply difficult for the young woman to manage on her own particularly since most of her friends and family remained out side of the country forcing her to cope alone. Eventually the anxiety of not knowing what had happened to her fiancé proved too much for her and Saskia was forced to seek treatment for panic attacks, insomnia, and an obsessive compulsive disorder from her childhood that had now spiraled out of control. Eventually all of these psychoses were controlled with counseling and behavior modification techniques and were believed to be brought on by immense stress. Now days, Saskia has found solace in her simple and uneventful routines and has all but eliminated the panic attacks that plagued her in her twenties with the use of behavior modification and valium. While the mystery of her fiancés disappearance still bothers her she seems to have moved on well enough and currently lives a quiet uneventful life with her cat.
A writing sample:
Saskia awoke a minute before her alarm clock actually went off. The goal was to wake up in just enough time to hit the snooze button so that the easy listening station she had the radio set to wouldn’t play. If she managed to win this race against the clock then that meant her day would go along as planed but if for some reason she somehow woke up late and the alarm sounded first, Saskia knew to be prepared for the unexpected as she went about her various tasks.
To some it might have seemed a juvenile game but to Saskia it was an invaluable tool in determining her approach in dealing with the rest of her day. How was this habit any different then people who grumbled about needing their coffee in order to start their mornings off right?
For Saskia beating the alarm was all that the woman needed to have a content morning. Sitting directly up once her hand had effectively come down on the button of the alarm Saskia immediately located the protesting sound of the long haired puff ball that had been sleeping at the end of the bed.
Unlike Saskia, Cat was NOT a morning person and upon glaring at her mistress as if to scold her for disturbing the feline the animal simply stood up circled its position twice and laid back down with its head facing away from her.
