Sir William looked up into the dull ceiling above him. He thought he heard creaking in the attic. Seeing as how he was out of his armor, he knew he wasn’t in a good spot to be fighting the abominations as is. He picked up his sword and a torch anyway and made his way towards the stairwell that led up into the confines of the dark attic.

He took a deep breath as he neared the door and reached for its handle. Opening the door he put the torch forward and saw most of the room illuminated. With a step forward he heard a terrible howl as a terribly deformed creature ran at him with full force. Surprised, William sidestepped the creature and swung the torch in its direction. The creature quickly turned itself around and stared at him with dull black eyes and a threatening grin.

William growled a fierce battle cry as he charged the monster with the torch forward and his sword at the ready. The abomination quickly swatted at the fire only to have its arm severed by a swift swing of William’s sword. The beast growled and cried out in a painfully disturbing manner as its blood poured onto the floor. It quickly, and unexpectedly, forced a powerful blow from its other hand into Williams’s chest, which sent him to the ground winded.

As the monster tended to its wound, William collected himself and looked on as it slowly bled to death in front of him. He jumped to his feet and made his way over to the creature and looked down upon it for a moment. He dropped the torch on the ground and then solemnly grasped his amulet and walked down the stairs. He could smell the fire spreading and could hear the beast above wailing in pain over the blazing fire.

He made his way to his front door after suiting up into his armor as quickly as he could. He could feel the fire spreading as he opened up the front door and left the home. His thoughts raced as he began to realize the scope of how this was spreading. He knew that he had to protect himself as well as the people he grew up with and around.

With a sad voice, he said, “I’m sorry it had to end this way, my love. May the demon that entrapped you suffer endlessly in the flames. I will do whatever it takes to overcome this. If I am to fall victim to its curse, then I shall only be reunited with you in death.”

Rune was approaching the town of Fallenwood, his horse was tired and needed proper feed. They had travelled fast hoping to get here before nightfall. Rune was running low on supply’s and needed to restock so he headed down into the town to find an inn.
When he reached the first buildings of the town he heard a loud high pitched scream, he pulled the horses reins hard and looked about the empty streets. Out of the corner of his eye he seen a dark shape flash around the corner of a distant building. Rune was starting to think something strange was going on in this town, maybe this plague he had heard so much about in the last town.

Rune cantered closer to the centre of town looking for the inn when he seen them, there at the end of the street was two dark shapes and coming closer by the second. He squinted his eyes to see them clearer they looked human at first glance but as they got closer he noticed how grotesque they looked and there black eyes.

Rune soon realised they meant him harm so he vaulted from his horse and unsheathed his blade in one fluid motion, landing in a almost perfect stance to fight two enemies. The smaller of the two abominations reached him first. It lunged at him, he spun out of the way flashing his sword out taking its head clean of its shoulders but the second bigger one crashed right into him knocking him backwards. Landing on his back he rolled onto his feet ready to attack. The thing was coming straight at him again Rune sidestepped swinging his blade at its leg, it fell to the ground and Rune stabbed his sword right down into the back of the things neck.

Wiping his blade on the monsters cloths he heard a door open, he looked up and down the street for the source of the noise and seen a man exiting a building. Rune was ready to fight again but the man didn’t move towards him, they stared at each other for a second and then Rune sheathed his sword and called out “what has happened here in this town stranger”?

Before leaving his home, William heard the unquestionable sounds of conflict in the distance. The screams of some horror and the trampling of battle encased the outside for less than a minute as he readied himself for anything at the door. Making his advances outside he saw a man standing off in the distance. William stood there firmly and didn’t say a word.

The man then said, “What has happened here in this town stranger?”

William took a sigh of relief as he took a step away from his soon to be visibly burning home and said, “Good Sir, you may want to find a well-lit place to stay tonight. I’ll explain everything I know to you, but it’s not the best time to be visiting Fallenwood.”

Smoke began pouring out of the home now as William slowly walked away to formally greet the newcomer into the town. The flames lit up the streets and seemed to startle and scare away things that were hiding and waiting in the darkness. Even through his armor, William could feel the heat of the fire on his skin. His heart sank further as he thought about the ruin his life was in. He couldn’t let his people know that his hope was all but gone.

His thoughts were distracted more by a distressing scream coming from not too far off in the woods. He felt it rude to abandon the man in the street, but he felt like it was important to go see what had caused the disturbance of the usually quiet woods. William was sure there were creatures lurking even in there, but he had to help someone if he could. He then took off running in his suit of armor towards the woods.

William shouted back to the man in the streets, “My name is Sir William the fierce, I’m sorry if this is rude of me sir, but I fear for the worst in the woods. Come with me, or stay by the fire, either way you will be fine.”

The Armoured Stranger replied “Good Sir, you may want to find a well-lit place to stay tonight. I’ll explain everything I know to you, but it’s not the best time to be visiting Fallenwood” before walking towards Rune. The building the man had come from was on fire Rune wondered to himself what had occurred inside that building before the man had joined him in the street but he thought better than to ask the stranger.

A far of scream sounded from the woods Rune had come from and the Knight started of in that direction shouting over his shoulder “My name is Sir William the fierce, I’m sorry if this is rude of me sir, but I fear for the worst in the woods. Come with me, or stay by the fire, either way you will be fine.” Rune chuckled to himself, at least he has manners he thought to himself. Rune had no choice to follow the man, he needed answers and he didn’t mind the fact the man looked like he could hold his own.

He headed to where he had leapt from his horse pounced on and galloped in the direction the knight had went. He caught up with Sir William just before the woods and he looked down at the knight and said “my name is Rune by the way.” Rune could see an abandoned wagon by the side of the road so he scanned the tree line looking for more of those abominations. Then he spotted a small girl he pointed in her direction and shouted to the knight "there look a child"

Gwendolen went to bed that evening late, after a day of nursing her sick father and the majority of her servants, she had finally decided to rest a little. Gwen couldn't help but find the entire situation slightly strange, all the sick had ventured into town a day prior, had come back with what looked like teeth marks or scratched etched into their skin and all had quickly developed a alarmingly high fever. Changing out of her dress and into a cotton nightgown, Gwendolen tiresomely crawled into bed, where sleep quickly claimed her. However her slumber didn't last for long as she awoke with the sounds of a large ruckus coming from down stairs, getting out of her bed Gwen slipped on her embroidered robe and slippers before opening the her heavy bedroom door, walking out into the dimly lit hallway, the noise seemed louder and it was followed by a high pitched cry.

Gwen's eye widened in fear, this was not just her servants being to loud, this was something else, were they being attacked? As she inched slowly towards the staircase she swallowed the large lump forming in her throat and walked down the wooden stairs, trying to keep light footsteps so the steps wouldn't creak and alert the intruders of her presence. As she reached the bottom she looked down both coridoors, the noise was coming from the parlor room, her eyes darted around to see what she could possible use as a weapon, settling upon a heavy silver candlestick, with her hands firmly grasping her weapon she quietly tiptoed towards the room at the end of the hall only to be distracted by another scream behind her, turning sharply she saw her maid Ana running towards her holding her neck with a blood soaked rag. Gwenolden's stomach churned slightly at the sight "My lady help me please" she begged with tear soaked eyes.

"Hush!" she scolded with a harsh whisper remembering the intruders at the end of the hall but it was too late, a guttural growl alerted her of their parents, she turned and saw two deathly pale men with bloodied mouths and black eyes at the end of the hall, she backed up slowly dropping the candlestick "run" she muttered her voice barely louder than a whisper, she grabbed Ana by the wrist and ran up the stairs dragging her with their pursuers hot on their heels, Ana's screams piercing her ears as they ran, she didn't blame the girl, she would probably be doing the same thing if she wasn't so focused on finding a hiding place.

Settling for her fathers room she dragged the maid inside, pushing a heavy chest in front of the door to try and keep those demons out. Gwendolen stood back and watched as they pounded against the door, her chest heaving up and down as she tried to catch her breath,What was happening? She thought to herself until a loud thump caught her attention, turning her head she saw Ana slumped on the floor her back against the wall, rushing over she removed the soaked rag to have blood squirt out of the wound onto her chest, resisting the urge to gag she mustered up some courage and placed her hand firmly onto the woman's neck in a attempt to stop the bleeding "Ana, who did this? Was it one of those things?" Gwen asked with a soft voice, Ana weakly nodded, the loss of blood quickly began to affect her.

"I-i went to check on Ralph, the stable boy's fever when he attacked me, he b-bit me." Her voice was weak, too weak, Gwen let out a small sigh applying her other hand as the Ana's blood seeped through her in between her fingers "What about the others? Are they the same?" she asked, no answer came, looking at the girls face she knew instantly she had passed away, feeling sadness gather in her heart she removed her blood soaked hands wiping them on her robe "be at peace Ana" she said to the lifeless body. Standing up she fell back against the wall and closed her eyes for a moment trying figure out what she was to do next, a creak made her eyes shoot open, standing in front of her was her father, the same deathly pale skin and the same darkened eyes as the men downstairs, she barely had time to let out a scream as he lunged at her, diving to the floor her father collided with the fall, falling to the floor with a thump. "Papa" she cried as she stumbled to her feet, walking over to the body cautiously, she looked down to see his chest rising slightly and a sense of relief washed over her "Papa?" she called lightly.

Lord Stanley's eyes shot open to reveal the blackness once more, letting out scream Gwen made a dash for the door but feeling a hand grasp around her ankle brought her swiftly to the ground face first. Stunned for a moment, her hand flew to her nose and drew back to see the scarlet fluid trickle out from her nostrils, she kicked violently as her father tried to bite her "Papa please" she begged but it was no use, this was no longer her father. It wasn't long until he was above her trying his best to bite at her skin, she fought with all her might but he had seemed to developed a new strength. A flash of silver caught her eye, it was her fathers sword! Using one arms to continue to push Stanley away she stretched the other one and grasped the hilt of the sword she managed to plunge the blade into his side. He fell to the ground quickly, standing to her feet, Gwen had no time to mourn, she removed the sword to looked away to find a way of escape. The window proved to be her best option, smashing the glass with the blade she through that out first and watched as it landed in the bush, the drop was at least fifteen feet but this was her only chance of survival, carefully lowering herself down she let go and fell in a heap on the grass "damn" she hissed as a moment of pain rushed through her.

Grabbing the heavy sword Gwen ran as fast as she could into the forest, she ran until she could run now more and using a tree for support she stopped to catch her breath, it was a cold night, and the thinness of her nightgown and robe made small bumps appear on her skin from the chill, her breath was viable also, her chest heaved heavily as she looked around, she spotted the outline of something in the near distance, her grasp tightened on the hilt of her sword as she walked the object. The moonlight lit up a carriage and two slumped horses along with two men and a young girl, feeling relief wash over her she walked towards them "Sirs!" she called out "Please you must help me" she begged.

Damion was asleep when he had heard the shouting, and the neighing. It was a long day before that, he sighed as he got up and put on his robe. Him being the holy man of the town, one of Damions jobs was to ensure that all bodies were taken care of and prayed before they burned them. It had been a long day before the night had approached. He remembered what had transpired like it had just happened. The smell, the sights, and the sounds.

"Sir, another man requires your attention." Damions' helper said to him. Damion was kneeling over a sick man giving him his last rites and easing his pain. The smell was terrible. It was like somebody had curdled milk and smashed a rotten egg in the same room. He crossed himself and brought out his dagger. 'Forgive me Father for this act of murder, for this act of murder is in mercy and not in anger. Forgive me for that of what I am about to do to another one of your children. Allow me to pass through your gates and be with You and Your Son who has died for your sins. I beg the to Forgive me,' Damion prayed before he sunk his blade into the mans heart effectively killing him without much pain. The room was now filled the with the copper smell of blood. He wiped the blade on the sheet next to the man and got up The family of the man walked up to Damion and offered him coin. He just shook his head and refused, "This is a free service. I'm committing no sin here and as such I will not take money for it. It pains me to watch others suffer."

"Now where is this man? I must tend to him." Damion said putting the blade back into its resting place. His helper looked away from the Priest, and told him to follow him. Damion nodded and walked after the boy. It was a shame to have somebody so young to experience something so tragic. When Damion had reached the new patient, the smell was exactly the same. As was the seen. The man was in the late stages of the Plague. He was about to go, and the man didn't want to become one of them. Damion just nodded his head and began the reading of the last rites of the infected.

Damion stepped out of the church with a lantern and his dagger at the ready. It wasn't a short sword he had trained with, but it worked. He started walking out slowly and delibeartly trying not to draw attention to himself. He really didn't want to be out right now, and there was no real reason except for his curious nature. For the next couple of minutes he walked slowly and soon saw a campfire a couple of hundred yards away. The fire was acting like a beacon in the darkness like his lantern. As he neared the fire he saw clear foot prints of what would be a couple of men and a horse. He followed the footprints to 2 men, a woman, and a young girl. He ran up holding his lantern. It was clear who he was due to the fact that he had his robes on and the cross around his neck.

William ran with all his might to the disparaging noises in the forest. He stopped a little distance away from a carriage and scanned the area. He saw the aftermath of an attack from the abominations and then heard a horse approaching him quickly from the rear. William turned and looked back to see the man from the street quick on the approach.

The man said, “My name is Rune, by the way.” William acknowledged him and then herd him shout, “There! Look, a child!”

William saw a frightened little figure standing in the distance. His heart thumped when he saw a bow pointed in his direction with an arrow to match. William sheathed his sword and raised his hands in a reassuring manner. He hoped that the child would maintain a natural position and not open fire.

He shouted to the child, “My name is William! I’m a knight! I’m here to help, child. Just lower the bow. I don’t want anyone else to get hurt here. We have to get everyone to safety.”

William watched the figure and hoped the child would lower the weapon only to hear someone off in the distance shout, “Sirs! Please! You must help me!”

He looked over to see a beautiful young lady running towards their direction. He then glanced back over to the child and then up to Rune on the horse. William knew that he needed to get these people out of the confines of the woods. The darkness was the worst possible place to be, especially the darkness in the woods. He sighed to himself and then took a deep breath.

William's voice was stern, but at the same time disarming, as he said, “You all must follow me to some place safe out of the woods. Child, I assure you, my friend and I here will keep you safe. Madame, you just come with us and we’ll ensure you safe passage through this nightmare. Follow me back to the town, please.”

Johanne gulped and lowered her weapon. Her breaths came uneasily and she advanced towards the small group. Her knees buckled and quivered as she walked, dragging her bow on the ground. In the presence of a lady, she stood and curtsied sloppily, "Forgive my disheveled appearance, Madame. But...I need help." Johanne glanced towards the knight, "S-Sir William," She mumbled, "Please. Please protect my Master!" She begged, making her way toward the man. "I beg of you." She groveled, resting her head on the dirt, pleading.

William removed his helm and smiled at the young girl. He turned his head toward the approaching holy man and wondered why a priest would wander alone in the woods knowing his life was at stake. He wondered why the girl would hold such obedience to someone to proclaim them her master. His heart was heavy with pity as he looked on at the bloody scene surrounding the carriage.

“Who is your Master, young one? Where is he?”

William, walking over to the carriage with caution noticed the horses were now deathly quiet. They looked at him with silence as he steadily approached them. He was waiting for something, anything, to happen. He placed the helm back on his head and unsheathed his sword once more as he heard ruffling noises coming from within the compartment of the carriage.

"There is no need to ask for my forgiveness" Gwendolen smiled warmly down at the girl, seeing her grovel for a man who was essentially her captive broke her heart, did this poor girl have no other family whom she would rather beg? Was she that alone? Gwen's hand tightened on the hilt of her fathers sword as Sir William approached the carriage, she moved towards the girl placing a hand on her shoulder and gently pulled her towards her, she did not want her in harms way, the rumbling coming from inside the carriage unnerved her and her grip on the girls shoulder tightened slightly, like a mother protecting her child "be prepared to run" she whispered to the girl.

William opened the cloth curtain that hid what was inside and saw a horrible creature positioned on top of a man, tearing into his shoulder. The man weakly looked over at William and screamed. The screams made the creature jump and take a turn towards William. William readied himself for an attack but was taken by surprise by the sheer force of the blow that the abomination gave him in his shield.

William’s body was forced back and to the ground by the beast as it lunged at him from the inside of the carriage. William heard his companions in the background but kept most of his attention to the dangerous situation at hand. The beast was clawing at his armor and attempting to bite him as he slashed it and did his best to thwart the beasts attack. William managed to injure it enough to kick it off of him as he regained his footing and prepared to continue an offensive attack.

The monster looked all around the crowd in shock of its current situation. It seemed to understand that it wouldn’t live. It then opened its mouth and produced a blood curdling cry at the top of its lungs. The shriek was almost deafening and forced William to cover his ears from the damaging howl.

William screamed out, “It’s drawing other abominations to our position. We must kill this beast and get out of here as quickly as possible!”

Knowing that the man in the carriage was infected, but still alive, put a lot of pressure on the situation. He knew they would need to go with the holy man to the church for protection. He did his best to stand his ground to the beast and give honor to the dead as he always promised to do. So, he rallied himself and stood toe to toe with the beast as it growled in anticipation of an attack from all of the companions.

William noticed the beautiful young lady join his side while the beast looked deep into both of them with its black eyes that seemed to bring them into an eternity of darkness on their own. William saw the beast clench up and prepare for an attack. The monster jumped in the direction of the young women beside him. William jumped in the way of the attack and managed to drive his sword deep into the monsters chest as it collapsed to the ground on top of him.

The beast still snarled angrily at William as he continued to push up on his blade, even though the abomination’s chest was up against the guard of the sword already. He could feel strength leaving the beasts’ body as its blood poured out of the wound that was created from the stab. William did his best to ensure the blood wasn’t in a position to infect him as he tossed the beast off of him to the ground and looked around at everyone who was with him. His adrenaline had been pumping intensely and forced him to shiver from the experience.

He spoke lowly to the group as he said, “We must move. We have to abandon this spot. Priest, can you help us get back to the church? It would be appreciated if you would allow us shelter from the wickedness of this world.”

He sheathed his sword one final time walked back towards the carriage that had grown silent due to the beasts absents. He took one look inside and shook his head. He looked at the little girl through his helmet and frowned. He knew she would be upset to leave her master, but William knew better than to bring him back to the town or even leave him alive.

Rune noticed the girls flash of anger towards the holy man before she said “thank you all” but said nothing. He felt nothing but pity for the poor girl she looked like she had been beaten on a daily basis and half starved but there was more pressing matters than to console her.

He scanned the strange group taking mental notes of equipment and how useful they would be in a fight. The women holding the girl had nothing but a sword but didn’t look very comfortable with it. The child had a bow and quiver full of arrows but her hands were shackled so would be useless in a fight until they were removed and now he had a good look at her she was older than what he first thought she was no child but a young women. The priest only had a dagger which would be useless in a fight with these monsters. Sir William was the only other member of the group who looked like he knew how to swing a sword.

Rune jumped down from his horse offering it to the two women saying “you need him more than I”. He then hurriedly went over to the now deserted wagon to search for weapons and supplies, he found a few small sacks of food but nothing that would be useful to them rite now. He went back to the horse to tie the small bundle of food to the saddle.

There was another loud howl but this time it came from direction of the woods, Sir William was right more were coming. More howls sounded out as Rune helped the women onto the horse and they were getting closer. Rune thought there must be at least four or five of them and coming fast. He shouted to Sir William “We can hold them until the women and the holy man are safe”.

Damion was lost in thought about how this terrible curse started, sure he was a man of God. Though he didn't believe that a bunch of demons did this. Nor did he believe that a bunch of spell casters did this. "I'm sorry knight, I do not know any clues that would be the cause of this terrible illness. I could give you the Church reason, that a few mages summoned up demons to wreak havoc across this land. I do not believe any word of that reasoning. It just doesn't make sense. In my personal opinion, I do believe that God sent this plague to sort out the sinners and the righteous. Though that's just my opinion on the matter." Damion said before the other howls came out of the woods.

He prayed silently and looked around for a sword. He needed to feel the rush of battle again. Its been a long time since he had fought with something. He noticed that Gwen had a sword on her. Damion ran over to her and handed the lantern to her, "Give me your sword, I'll help fend these things off. I might not look it but I know around the way of a sword." Damion grabbed the sword and wielded it the way he was taught all those years ago. The balance of it felt right in his hands, the lightness of the blade and the weight of the hilt in his hands. He smiled at the thought of the challenge. The other man had shouted to the knight about fending them off till him and the women had reached the church safely, Damion shook his head at the man and said, "I was a squire once, I know how to defend against enemies. I'm not as helpless as you think."

Rune attacked the beast at the same time as the knight and the priest. He had been surprised when the priest had taken the sword and offered his aid in the fight. They all moved in unison in attack, Rune ducked under the monsters swing and slashed upwards towards the beasts throat. He heard it fall to the ground behind him. As he turned he noticed the other two had downed the remaining two demons,

He sheathed his sword and set of in the direction of the women after Sir William had told them that women were more than likely in trouble. On the jog back into town the priest introduced himself as Damion.

Rune was getting tired from all the fighting and running, he whispered the incantation “Virtus Fortitudo” and instantly felt a rush of energy flow into him and he started moving faster he even had to slow a bit so the others could keep up

Sir William fell asleep after Gwen went to wash herself and Damion went to check on the girl. He had a surreal, nightmarish, dream that involved him being chased by the abominations through the empty ghost town. He saw everyone he once knew and loved be taken by the beasts as they marched towards him mercilessly. His fears enveloped him as the monsters cornered him and made their way for the kill. He awoke quickly as soon as the darkness had fully taken him.

Drenched in sweat, and being the first one to awaken, he looked over at his armor that he had haphazardly thrown in the corner of the small room. He decided to wear a light tunic and leather armor instead of his cumbersome steel. He still carried his sword and kite shield with him though. He said not a word to anyone as he left to find the place in his dreams. He knew that some dark secret was revealed to him through them, at least he thought so anyway.

So, pushing open the doors and breathing in the light air and bright sun, he made his way through the town. He walked through the square into the housing district and stopped outside the home he had left aflame late last night. His heart grew heavy with sadness as he looked upon the smoldering embers of his beloved home. Knowing that the women he had left was not the same women when he returned killed him on the inside. He walked away slowly as his mind continued to fill his head with thoughts of her.

He walked a little further to his neighbors’ home, which had been nearly untouched by the flames, and knocked heavily on the door. There was no answer from inside, just the light breeze in the air. He tried to open the door but came to find that it had been locked quite securely. He had no idea whether it was to keep something locked up, or to keep someone out.

Knocking again, he heard a rustling around from inside. A slide on the door shot open and he was looking into the light eyes of a scared female. He did not recognize this lady but knew that his neighbors had a young daughter when he left for the war. He assumed it was her as she looked deeply into his eyes, seeming to not trust anyone or anything.

“Are your parents here, Madame? It’s William, from next door. I wanted to be sure you all were safe. I’m trying to find survivors to maybe take refuge at the church.” William said this, but knew he had more in store for his adventure out in the streets.

“William? Yes, I remember you. I’m Isabella, if you don’t remember.” said the young lady, now revealing her name to William.

William then spoke with kindness saying, “Ah, yes. Isabella, it is nice to see you are safe. May I speak to one of your parents? I need to know what happened here.”

Isabella grew pale with further mentioning of her parents and then coldly said, “When they went to find Marry
 Well, in your home
 They
 They never came back.”

William’s heart further filled with sadness for Isabella at the loss of her parents. He looked deeply into her eyes with compassion for her loss and told her to go to the church for protection, and that he would meet her there later in the day. He hoped she would agree to go, but she refused to leave her home. William knew what she was going through and said that he’d make sure she was safe and supplied every day.

William further went down the road to each consecutive home, only to find them broken into, or abandoned. He knew that entire families had been in each home and could only imagine how many infected were about, running through the shadows and whatnot. So, he went deeper into the small town, looking for the hidden entrance to the catacombs. He knew he would find answers down there.

He neared the edge of the graveyard and looked on in horror at the amount of graves that were dug before the plague took full effect. He saw mounds of decaying corpses littering the now abandoned field, and make his way through the awful mess, towards the entrance he desired to find. The smell of the rotting carcasses was almost unbearable, but he pushed through it. The sight of dead bodies was nothing new to him, but it still made him feel uneasy and sick.

In the middle of the graveyard, he found a small mausoleum jutting out of the ground in a true medieval sense. It was disturbingly old fashioned and almost eerie to view up close. He opened to heavy door as it creaked loudly. He noticed that the door had been opened recently and felt it weird that someone would lurk in the city of the dead beneath their feet. He hoped that whatever was down there wouldn’t be too much for a knight such as himself to handle.

As he slowly closed the door, he was only warmth by the light of a recently lit candle pathway. He knew that the light wouldn’t be enough to deter the abominations from hiding inside, but might be able to buy him some time if he’s caught in a struggle. The visibility inside the catacombs grew to only be feet as William furthered himself down into the long forgotten tunnels that were dug to house the dead in his ancient hometown. He hoped that the others wouldn’t find their way to this ancient dark place, because he knew that the journey ahead would be perilous, if anything.

Moving down the lowly lit areas of the catacombs, William saw that many of the coffins had been desecrated and torn open. The skeletons of the dead had been removed. William was starting to think that there was evil lingering in the depths below as well, something that might keep the abominations out. He at least felt safe knowing he wasn’t going to be forced to change into one of those beasts.

Find the hidden entrance he was looking for, he pushed a sliding rock out of the way which revealed a doorway. He opened the doorway and walked into the dark room. He grabbed a candle from the wall outside for light and then used it to see around the room. He heard a light creaking from behind and slowly began to turn himself around.

To his back he saw a mummified body staring back at him. It was standing eye to him and showed all the signs of an anciently decayed corpse. The mummy unsheathed an ancient looking sword and pointed it in William’s direction. Jumping back a step, William unsheathed his sword in defense.

The mummy growls and charged William fiercely, but it was no match for William’s advanced military training and tactics. He managed to break through the mummies guard and stabbed it in the chest. The ancient dead’s eye sockets glared back at him as the beast pulled him close and the mummy’s sword stabbed into Williams left side, cutting him open. Filled with adrenaline now, William pushed the beast away and hacked through its neck and chopped its head off.

He walked over to the coffin, whilst keeping pressure on his side, and grabbed an ancient book from out of it. He tucked the book away into his other belongings and made his way back to the surface with haste. He knew he didn’t want to come into contact with other creatures that might have been raised from the dead. Finally, he saw the crypt door and pushed his way back out through it.

With blood covering his hands and soaking his clothes, he moved toward the church as quickly as he could. He saw that it was still very early in the day and didn’t know if anyone would be awake yet. He began feeling incredibly weak as he opened up the heavy doors to the church. He walked down the aisles slowly and suddenly collapsed on the floor. He looked under the pews and saw a young women staring back at him.

William weakly said, “Help me, my wound is pretty bad. Please, I need assistance ma’am. If there is anything you can do. Just help me
” William began drifting off between each sentenced he uttered, until he passed out from the immense pain.
