Plains of Red Dust

Plains of Red Dust

0 INK

A wild west roleplay, full of action, and adventure. Who all knows what else? It goes where the players lead it!

1,513 readers have visited Plains of Red Dust since Vio-Lance created it.

Introduction

The year is 1879. The expansion to the west has begun quite some time ago, and is in full bloom. The Gold Rush is over, and people have started to settle in the Western States. However, most view these often barren plains as lawlessness at it's finest, where bandits can roam from town to town, taking what they want. Dangerous Native Americans also claim the West as theirs; the Apaches in particular.

The roleplay starts in a town called Jakal Flats. It has about 100 people living around it. Cattle hearders usually stop here to rest since it's in the middle of two larger towns that exchange cattle. Bandits and thieves usually tend to stay away from the town directly, because of the strong law enforcement presense, but stay in the areas around it, so they can steal goods before they get into the town, or after they leave it.

There is no real storyline to the roleplay. It starts in Jakal Flats...and depending on the characters that are present, and what happens in the roleplay, is where we'll go. We'll go with the flow. If you want the Roleplay to take a specific turn, then start pushing the story that way. Players have the influince to change what happens! If you want to be a bandit that is here to show up the Sherriff of Jakal Flats, then raise some hell. An apache hunter whom kidnaps one of the main characters? Go for it. There are few limits in the roleplay as long as it is resonable.

"Lieutenant Alfred Krieger, Seventh Cavalry. And yes, I command these men." Alfred said curtly, standing up, in response to the man who had joined the small group around the wounded man. Alfred slowly looked the man up and down. He was very sure of himself, standing there and chewing on an empty shell casing. Just from his posture Alfred could tell he wasn't at all pleased or impressed by Alfred or his men, despite the fact that they had just saved this town. Though it had been a rather brash attack. He could only imagine what his intrustors at the Academy would have said to him about leading a charge like that. Still, it had been fun and succesful. He imagined it would be the talk of the town for sometime to come. All in all, this old-timer seemed to be rather full of himself. Pretty typical of a lot of these frontier settlers it seemed.

"F-Frank! Somebody! Git him! He's gettin' away!" Alfred spun around at the girl's cry. Sure enough, one of the attackers was trying to make a run for it. He was obviously nursing a gut wound, which was slowing him down. With ease Alfred pulled out his Colt and cocked it, taking a stance like he would when practicing. Left arm folded behind him, right arm held straight out with the gun pointed at the man, feet spread apart for stability. Alfred wanted a prisoner so he aimed for the legs. With one easy pull of the trigger, his hand jerking up and then returning to the firing position as he followed through with the shot, he sent the bullet flying to it's target. Fortunately one was all that was required. The bullet slammed into the man's thigh and and dropped with a small scream of agony.

Calmly Alfred holstered his weapon. "Someone get this man to the doctor." Se said, indicating the man who was apparently the reason for the attack. "I'll deal with the prisoner." With that Alfred walked out to the wounded man, his spurs jingling as he walked. The man had dropped his gun when he fell and was now holding his gut with one hand and his leg with the other. Alfred roughly pulled the man to his feet and half carried, half dragged him to the livery stable, thinking of the questions he wanted to ask the man when they got there.

So...the one that was conscious and near myself and the unconscious one was leading the rabble. ...not that I would know, but the older man seemed to disapprove. And he would probably know better, guessing from his age. He stood up as Lee said something about an escapee, and I looked up. Sure enough, one was running. I didn't bother watching as he started to take aim. A little dramatic just for someone who was already wounded. I stayed there, just in case the unconscious man woke up, wondering if anyone was going to go for the doctor. I heard the shot as the man, who had introduced himself as Alfred, shot the runaway. I shook my head. You'd think there had been enough problems. And he dragged the now-more-severely injured runaway back nearby. Just more work for the doctor. I took care of the wound in his arm as best as possible, but without water, there wasn't much I could do but make sure the handkerchief didn't loosen. I decided against getting the doctor myself; someone would have to explain what had happened after he had passed out, after all. I looked around, wondering if they had forgotten this man lying here.

Coast had been lost in a dream...

"You know boy?!?" The voice of 'Dillo said. "Ain't nothin much more to life than guns y'know? They control who makes the rules'n who takes the rules.... who makes the rules'n who takes the rules.....who makes the rules'n who takes the rules...."

Coast jumped awake to his knees at the sound of Alfred's gunfire. He screamed when he jumped up, spitting out the dirt that had gotten caked in between his lips when he first collapsed. His hand had instinctively reached down to the right holster of one of his pistols but the emptiness there quickly reminded him of it's loss on his flight into town.

His vision was still a little blurry but he was able to take in account the current situation. His arm still hurt like hell but when he looked down it had been wrapped up. Who he wondered as he finally saw the eyes of Crystal looking at him. He tried his best to flash her a warm smile but it faded when he realized he was also in the presence of the United States military.

Ah hell he thought. Just what I need. I just hope this fella doesn't realize that I'm still a wanted man.... He wasn't dead however, and it would seem that someone else had gotten the man's attention.

He thanked the woman that had tended to him and tries his best to rise to his feet, using her as help. Standing was a little difficult but he had been used to moments like these. He shook his head, trying to regain his senses before reaching out to grasp the shoulder of the man who had saved his life.

After turning him around, Coast reached into the front pocket of his duster and pulled out a flask of liquor that made it's presence known after the cap was removed. "I ain't got much to really say thank ya with partner but....here. A swig for the gig." He extended the flask towards him, smiling once more after nodding and whistling. "That rifle you got there is a beaut..." he stumbled a little but was able to balance himself once more by holding Crystal's shoulder.

"Eh....ya'll wouldn't happen to have a little water handy would ya? I don't know where m'horse went off to...."

He was using my shoulder for balance; otherwise, I might have gone to get water for him. "I think I saw your horse...at least, if that was the horse that ran by me earlier without a rider," I said, glancing aroud. He had pulled out liquor...wonderful. Now we would have an injured drunk wandering around. Just perfect, I thought sarcastically. I looked back up to him. "...I don't know that you should be drinking that...we shoul be getting you to the doctor...just in case..." I mumbled. I was used to being ignored, but he did really should have been going to the doctor, to make sure nothing was wrong with the wound. He didn't seem fond of some of these people, anyway...but still, the liquor! What was the point of that? "...At the very least, it may take a while to find your horse and get it back, you know."

Frank was slightly surprised by Lee shouting for him. His body darted around, and he saw her pointing at a wounded man trying to escape. As he began reaching for a LeMat, he saw the lieutenant step forward and retrieve his own pistol, taking an exponentially goofy stance as he brought the gun out, reminding Frank of European fencers mid-lunge. He fired after calculating his shot, and brought the running man down in the dirt again. He proclaimed he would take care of the prisoner as the mysterious man from before picked himself up and got wobbly. Crystal was helping him stand. He was obviously tired, and probably lost a good amount of blood; didn't really matter, he'd get more. The man approached him with an open flask, offering him a swig. Crystal was trying to coax him into seeking help elsewhere, but Frank approached the two.

"It's alright, Crystal, he'll be okay. I tell ya, pard, I don't drink none of that stuff, but I do like to shake brave men's hands," Frank brought his hand to the man's, gripping it firmly with his tough farmer's hand. "Just make sure you don't bring no more trouble out this way, because we don't need none of it. We're good people out here and we don't need our candy and soda shops to be cover from flying .45s. Oh, and here," Frank retrieved his gallon-size canteen, blemished and beaten, from off of Tornado, and uncorked the top before placing it in the man's hand. "Drink up, pal."

Frank turned around, watching the lieutenant drag the wounded man to the livery. He chewed thoughtfully on the empty casing, trapping it between his serrated teeth and grinding away at the spare metal. The lieutenant struck him as a prideful young man, but one that didn't understand patience or blessings. He followed the two inside the livery, and spoke up once he felt they were alone.

"What in the hell do you think you're doing, kemosabe?"

Lee could only watch as her friends dispersed, most to the livery, to deal with one of the men. She turned back to Crystal, whom was holding up the man. She walked over, and took some of the burden off of Crystal, wrapping her arm around the man to suspend him lightly as she was. "Hey, Crystal...what do you say we get this fella over to Witt, huh? Sure he ain't shot good, but he'll still need to be checked out, right?" She would say lightly.

Leeanna pointed over to the building in question, starting off in that direction, hoping Crystal would follow her lead. The two girls could heft the man to the doctor slowly, but he'd get there.

I watched the older man giving him water, and then going off, following the other man dragging the injured one inside a livery. I looked up at the man I was supporting, then watched Lee approaching. She suggested we take him to the doctor, and I nodded. I had planned on doing that, anyway...but I would have gotten myself lost. I only ever passed through, hadn't ever really needed to give the doctor a call. "Yeah, he probably should be checked out," I said, nodding again, helping take the man to the building she had pointed out.

Coast watched as the other girl came around, putting his other shoulder over her arm to help him walk. He was sure he'd be fine but, the friendly attention was nice for once. Most strangers he had met on his travels were people either trying to shoot him, or needed to be shot. He watched as the U.S. Marshall & Frank walk off, smiling in appreciation for Frank calling him "Brave". That man had really pulled Coast's ass out of the fire, and he knew he owed him his life. Still, his eyes went down as the man had told him not to bring any trouble to his town.

Coast had probably brought more trouble than he knew....this thought scared him. He took his arms from around the two women and looked at them. They were friendly, caring for his health and of his wounds. He took a swig of the water that Frank, another man that had looked out for him had given and shook his head. There wasn't anyway he could let those guys come back and do more damage to this town. He needed to go out and track them down. Stop whatever advance or plans they had and make sure that this place didn't see another bullet embedded in it's buildings, or God forbid one of these nice people.

"Ah...Ah need to find my horse." He said as he stepped backwards. He pointed towards Crystal and spoke, trying his best to smile. They would be able to hear the hesitation his voice. He wasn't good at masking what he thought. Probably a side-effect of having been a loner now for these past years. "You said you saw my horse? Where at hon?" He watched as her eyes retraced the flight of the horse and took off in that direction. His arm still hurt, and more than likely he probably should find the doctor, but these people were too good to be ambushed by God knows how many of those crazy confed wannabes.

After running down the road he finally caught sight of the prized horse he had stolen from the men. He went over his pack, removing some more water, ammo, and a custom winchester repeater. He cursed under his breath as he remembered that his other revolver had yet to be found. He slung his rifle over his shoulder and put away some ammo. He also took some money from the back and tried his best to get on the saddle.

The pain in his arm revived immediately....

So he went back to where the two women had been, smiling awkwardly as he spoke out. "So uh...where be that doctor ya'll were talking about?" Coast knew that time was of the essence. But what good could he be if his good shooting arm was shaking and if it was hell to even mount his horse.

"Ya'll got anywhere to feed and hitch whiskey?" He pointed to the horse as he let go of the lead reigns.

Still, he knew for every minuet he remained in this town would be another minuet that those bad folk were riding to hustle plenty more to come back and serve their brand of justice to this place.

Asking me where I saw the horse...and then running after it and bringing it back...what was the point in asking? "I was only hitching up my own horse when I saw that one. I can take him to where mine is, if that's ok?" I turned and pointed out the building Lee had pointed out earlier. "That's where the doctor is." A little hesitantly, I walke forward, taking a hold of the horse's lead. "Like I said...I can hitch him up near my horse...I think I left horse feed in his saddle-bags, too...if you don't mind?" It was already starting to get just a littlw awkward; I didn't know him, really...so to talk at all was a little bothersome. Still, he had asked for help, and I wasn't about to just walk away.

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

wow...the fourth...that's when i'm leaving...

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with everybody... but I've got bad news. I'm going camping, and staying 'till the fourth of july. And it's going to be a while before I can check in again.... So if everyone wants to keep going, my character is controlable to anyone.... Or if you want to drop, I guess that'd be fine too.... But I wish you stay, and I wish I get to see you when I get back!

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

I'll create a character, this looks fun

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

I'll post later, halfway done

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

sorry i didn't post yesterday...was grounded from computer...but i has computer back now!

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

Don't know if this is rude or not, but I also posted a character up. Hopefully that's not going to be too much of a problem... :D

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

I do quite love everyone's character, AND everyone's activity. I've sent message to SamG, and he has not replied to me since. So...I'm not excactly sure what to do, since his character hasn't exactly been introduced into the roleplay yet....

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

I'm making a post people, don't post before me please (of course it's almost midnight here so I've prolly got nothing to worry about)

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

I'm currently in the process of making a character, a US Cavalryman being stationed in Jakal Flats. I hope to have him up later this evening if at all possible. I thought I'd let you know, and hope this character will work in this RP.

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

Hrm, I posted an application for the character "Coast" and while i do think I was approved, I am unable to post within the rp. Every time I click on reply to this roleplay it takes me to the character submission sheet :(

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

Hey there!
I made a character for this RP but it said on the introduction page that it requires approval...
I wasn't really sure who was supposed to be giving the approval, so I just decided to post on here to let someone know.

Hope I didn't mess something up. ;) And I hope my character fits okay.

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

alright...let me work on it...i might have an idea...eh...this might take a bit...okay, got it done...i think...

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

Just throw one out there, Crys. I'm sure you can make it work for ya. My character is a female gunslinger, though she's a tad young.

Re: [OOC] Plains of Red Dust

something i would make a character for...if i knew what kind of charatcer to make :P fact is, i'm only good at playing girls...and i don't know where one would fit in here...
