Introduction
Oh, before I forget. Lately there has been an overflow of new arrivals to Pond Gates. So no more of those for now. Either claim a premade character or create a resident of Pond Gates. Resident meaning someone who's already lived there for a while and established a lifestyle for his/herself. I'll also start being more choosy about who can join. Original characters with a well thought out history and personality.
Thank You.
Announcement! When posting IC post here in the play-by-post forums. This is for the convenience of the players. You still, however, post OOC here and submit your characters here too. Thank You... again.

(For some reason the voice that reads this in my mind belongs to the man from the Old Spice commercial... :P)
In the park, in the pond, underneath the murky water, lies a gate. It is old and rusted, the words Carpe Diem are printed across its metal spikes. Gold and silver koi swim around you, glittering creatures glistening through the dark. The gates creak open, and you are swooped in like a vacuum. Time seems to speed past you as you decend through the dark underwater tunnel. Then, all goes black, you wake up on a beach. A crow is sitting beside you. It's staring at you curiously. You scare it off, and it retreats into the woods that surround you. Scared and confused, you stand up but feel naseous. Where are you? You look to your left. There is a pier. An old carnival sits upon its rotting wood. You can see even from your distance that it is abandoned.
"There they are!"
You hear a voice behind you. You spin around, and come face to face with a gang of goons, four of them. They're dressed casually, but wear yellow vests and dark sunglasses. They have guns fastened to their belts, and things that look like tasers as well.
"The mayor would like to see you," one of them says, and reaches for their gun. They point it towards you. "You will come quietly."
After he pulls the trigger all goes dark. You fall fast asleep.
You awake in Pond Gates.
Please read everything from here down. It might be asking a lot, it might not be, but if you skip it you'll probably miss some important information.

Pond Gates is not a place for the faint hearted. Even the air is cruel and smoggy. The resident mad scientist that lives up on the hill is always creating new "experiments," monstrosities that escape at an alarming rate. The highest form of live entertainment is the Big Top circus, that rests on the outskirts of town, right beside a tumbling building that the performers call home. Giant spiders the size of large dogs scurry through its falling walls, only to be taken down by the pistol of the ringleader. Electronics are a rarity, the sale and production are monopolized by money loving Anthony Dowd. But, don't worry, his daughter might give you a discount. The streets are lined with pubs, and there aren't many fine goods. Business in drug dealing is booming, the mayor's goons have more important things to take care of. Night comes quickly, and everyone bars their doors to keep safe. Blood thirsty things haunt the streets when the lights go out. The woods are sweet and bright, a breath of fresh air where flowers bloom freely, but beware the witches.
Everyone is out for their best interest. Everyone just wants to survive. And here you find yourself, alone and clueless. Do you have what it takes to survive Pond Gates? Or will you find your way out? If there is one...

(Unless claimed these are just NPCs, although I would be very happy if people decided to play them. If you are planning on RPing for a premade character please make sure you have the time to. Some of them are important to the RP. You do not HAVE to play one of these characters and are welcome to make your own. HOWEVER! Lately there has been an overflow of new arrivals to Pond Gates. So no more of those for now. Either claim a premade character or create a resident of Pond Gates. Resident meaning someone who's already lived there for a while and established a lifestyle for his/herself.): All characters are playable. If you'd like to roleplay one, message me. If they are not claimed they will remains as NPCs. Romance and strong relationships with unclaimed NPCs are banned. Friendship and even relation is okay, but avoid monopolizing characters. Characters with a
The Mayor: At the age of twenty-two, flowery and jubilant, the residents of Pond Gates often question the mayor's sexuality. That, however, is no question in his mind. He is absolutely infatuated with resident beauty Christina Dowd... if only she'd return his feelings. Like the diva he is, the mayor often hosts parties at his large victorian style home, featuring some of the strangest entertainment one could behold in Pond Gates. Everyone usually attends, although he doesn't have many friends. And why should he? It is because of him that most of them were dragged down to Pond Gates in the first place. How, they do not know... Some suspect they were drugged, others believe they were hypnotized and wisked away to the world of smog and violence. They are near sure, however, that he, his goons, and the scientist are the only ones who know how to get back to the surface world.
Christina Dowd: Bold, brave, and fierce, Christina Dowd is the eighteen year old daughter of Anthony Dowd. Behind her father's back she smuggles away electronics made by Dowd Industries and sells them at more reasonable prices to the citizens of Pond Gates. She's cunning and skilled at bargaining, getting her money's worth. She could, after all, get arrested for her treachery. Though, the mayor might not be able to stand seeing his "darling" behind bars, she wouldn't might standing behind bars to avoid seeing the mayor. ((Edit: Has a younger sister as well, who is a new arrival to Pond Gates. Sister will be played by me.))
The Ringleader: He's a tenant, he's a ringleader, he's a lion tamer, he's a marksman, and he sure is good-looking. Meet the young and handsome ringleader of Big Top Circus. One of the friendliest people you'll meet in Pond Gates (excluding the Strongman, he's just a darn softy), the ringleader is a knight in shining armor to many. New arrivals to Pond Gates can often find rooms to board at the Big Top's housing complex, free of charge. A giant Wolf Spider invades your room? No problem, he'll be in there at your first yelp and take it down with a blow from his father's silver pistol. Need someone to talk too... well he might be a little busy saving the day, but just go into his office where you'll find his talking pet fish, Hobble. You'll have a jolly good chat, guarantee.
The Carnies: (One Claimable Spot) They might be creepy, but you get used to the abnormal when you live in Pond Gates. The carnies consist of the Strongman, who can lift seven times his own body weight,
The Witches:(Two Claimable Spots) The woods are bright and filled with the scent of sweet honey and nectar. It's a place where the residents of the town dream of venturing into, but fear what lies behind its false exterior. The woods aren't nearly as beautiful as they appear. It is a spell, casted upon it by the three sisters who inhabit the forest. The witches
The Ox: The most humanoid monster that roams the streets at night. Residents believe he used to be assistant to the scientist, until something went horribly wrong. He now has a head twice its regular size, with a bone plate across his forehead, open red welts, glowing eyes, elongated dagger-like canines, and bulging arms that could rip you to shreds. He has a nose ring that stretches across his nostrils like an ox, and is always seen carrying a loaded shotgun.
The Goons:(Three Claimable Spots) There isn't much to say about the goons. There are four of them, three men

- New arrivals to Pond Gates have nothing but the clothes on their backs. No weapons, nothing linking you to the surface world.
- Most everything in Pond Gates is homemade. The only large manufacturing plant is Dowd Industries.
- There is a lot of empty housing in Pond Gates. But, first you should find a cheap place to board, then quickly find a job or make use of your crafts.
- Pond Gates has no certain age or origin.
- The mayor is chosen through inheritance, not election.
- While the monsters that the scientist creates are fierce, there are a lot of natural predators to look out for. Wolf Spiders, for one, are native to Pond Gates and are the size of a large dog.
- Darkness in Pond Gates sets in at around seven. Most everyone makes sure they are off the streets by then and safe inside their houses.
- There are many pubs around Pond Gates, and a lot of residents generally belong to a rough crowd. There is no drinking age. And anyone can purchase firearms and weapons.
- No one really knows how they wound up in Pond Gates. They do sometimes remember their life before arriving in Pond Gates, but memory loss it common.
- There are some surface world animals in Pond Gates as well. Wild fowl, wild horses, boars, and serpents inhabit the woods outside of Pond Gates. They're good for hunting, and the horses for transportation, but many are afraid to venture into the forest to find them.
- People in Pond Gates grow their own food, though the soil is not the best for gardening. One could purchase genetically altered vegetables and fruits from the scientist... but then again you might develop strange sideaffects.
- The most common mode of transportation around Pond Gates is by foot. Few own horses and the mayor travels by rickshaw.
- In Pond Gates there is only Pond Gates. You can only travel so far into the woods and mountains before you're right back where you started.
- No one in Pond Gates lives there by choice. Everyone was either kidnapped and taken there or born in Pond Gates.
- Citizens drink well water or purchase it from the store.
- Regular US currency is used in Pond Gates (most of which is stolen by the "goons" [henchmen as they like to call themselves]). The most common form of currency is one dollar bills, then quarters, dimes, five dollar bills, tens, then twenties. The amount of money circulating through Pond Gates is based on population. The average family doesn't make much, but prices are relatively cheap. To give you an idea, a loaf of bread is seventy-five cents, an egg is a quarter, vegetables are usually a dollar a pound, and a whole baked chicken is three dollars. Cheap clothing is around 3 dollars a garment. Expensive clothing can range between 10-50 dollars. Weapons are usually pricier, cheap ones are around 5-10 dollars, the most expensive ones can range from 50-200 dollars. Small livestock is about 50 dollars per purchase. A horse (if you're lucky enough to even get to buy one) is around 500 dollars. Most citizens make around fifteen dollars a week, the lucky ones maybe get twenty, and a majority of that is spent on necessities. Citizens, however, don't have to pay taxes (whoopdy-doo!).
- If you are a new arrival, the mayor will send his goons to find you. They will take you to City Hall where the mayor will tell you briefly about where you are and about the laws of Pond Gates. After that you're own your own. Best of luck.

She slumped down the steps of the mayor's estate, her clothes leaving puddles behind her, soaking wet after her plunge in the pond and a little unplanned nap by the ocean. Some ocean. And she had washed up like a confused fish, on the shore of some unknown place. The mayor had called it Pond Gates.
Carol looked up at the sky. It had been raining when she fell, before she woke up. Was it going to rain here too? It was so dark, and the air was so thick and heavy that it was hard to breath. She wandered into the small town and slouched down against the brick wall of a building. Her eyes began to tear, and she propped her arms up on her knees and buried her face in them. She started shaking with sobs. "This is a nightmare," she told herself. "I want my mom, I want my grandmother." She took her palm and wiped at her cheeks. Her head snapped up, alert, at the ringing of a bell, coming from a clocktower in the center of town. One, two, three times. It was three o'clock. She gasped air in, out, in, out, till she was hypreventilating. It was all too real. The sounds, the smells, the emotions. The concept of time in a place where time seemed irrelevant. This was no dream...
"Get away from my shop," an old lady burst through the door beside her and shooed her away. Her eyes were wide and urgent. "Your gloominess is driving customers away!"
Carol pushed herself up and stumbled forward, her shoes sloshing with every step. She gripped onto the sleeve of her long orange shirt, and rubbed it against her nose as she stared up at the sign on the store. "Ethda's Baked Goods," she read. She walked up to the store window and pressed her hands to it. Her mouth watered. The cakes and breads she could see did look yummy... The woman appeared in the window. "Shoo shoo," she gestured with her hands, not with words, but Carol got the picture.
She ran out to the street, shivering, cold, tired, and hungry. Like an orphan, confused and scared. To her right was a bar. She could hear some shouting, fighting, and some jolly good cheers emerging from its rundown walls. To her left was a blacksmith's shop. She could hear the hammering of metal and iron, smell smoke from the fire used to heat and mold. Carol strayed to the center of town, where the town square was and the clocktower stood. She even had one of those near her house, a town square. There was a fountain there as well, water jetted up from the middle of it. She sat down on the edge and looked into the pool. There were koi much like the ones she had seen in the pond, swimming around and around in circles. She took a fist and slapped at them but only struck the bottom and scratched her knuckles, then stuck her hand to her mouth and started crying again.
OOC Notes
Walking down the streets, his lively eyes spurred with passion as he looked at the baked goods. Reaching into his pockets he clothes his eyes, "Wouldn't mind having some extra change...maybe a honey roasted bun would calm the madness..". Running his hand inside the inner pockets he pulled out what seemed to be a few coins..they resembled buttons more...but they had to have some value. Pushing gently on the netted door he walked into the swelling aroma's of the baked goods shop. Strolling around, he allowed his nose to savor the heaven. The smell of berries, fruits, nuts, and his favorite..cinnamon. Looking over at the shop owner he raised his finger smiling. Pointing out for 2 of the cinnamon buns, Seth held his smile, something about smiling pained him, but he did it anyways just to be polite. The old misses looked at him with suspecting eyes as she raised her hand, which probably had more wrinkles than his dress shirt. Putting all of the coins upon her hand, Seth turned around as he began moving towards the door. The owner didn't stop him..she had made more than her share for 2 cinnamon buns, smiling greedily she moved back towards he old chair where she sat, her buggy eyes glued to young man leaving her store, "What a wonderful day..." she whispered, laughing softly.
Seth walked out onto the path, which was more than empty, it was probably ghostly. Everyone had a place to be, things to do, stuff to eat, people to be, what of him? He was perfectly fine, biting into the bun with the softest crunch of the cinnamon hardened bun breaking. Chewing softly he noticed a girl alone, her age he couldn't make out. Looking down at the bun, and then back at the girl, he ran over, keeping the bun tucked nicely under his dress shirt, approaching quietly he felt his heart race, this scene seemed familiar...as a image blurred in his head, he felt the spike of pressure on his head again, dropping the bun in the sudden crack of pain. It was a pond, a pond...something about a pond and a orphan...Silvia?...pushing the thought out of his head he groaned. Picking up the bun and dusting it, he sighed before tapping the girl gently. She seemed to be in her own world, her eyes were wet, and she seemed pretty much like him.....lost. Gently pushing the bun towards her he moved his face away, just incase.
((OOC; Sorry for the long wait, its a homework filled night and school is of the essense...anyways hope this wasn't too much, mistakes are everywhere, forgive meh? :P))
OOC Notes
Her knuckles burned as she held them to her mouth, trying to suck the pain out. It had never worked, her mother would always scold her for sticking whatever injury she had in her mouth. Papercuts, bruises, and scratches, the heat and moisture for some reason made it feel so much better. At the thought of her mother she dropped her hand a little and stared off down the dirt path and road that all the shops lines. It wasn't possible that she'd never see her again. No way... no how.
One, two, three, four. The clock behind her chimed loudly into her ears. It was now four o'clock. She had survived her first hour in this strange new place.
Through her daze, another sense caught her off guard. She sniffed, the air had smelled like soil and smoke before, but now it was more spicy... sweeter. There was a tap on her shoulder, and Carol jumped and shifted her seating on the fountain edge, backing away from whatever was going to "attack" her. But all that was there was a boy and a cinammon bun. She sighed in relief, reached for the bun and cupped it in her hands. Carol looked to the boy, then back at the bun...
"Uh," she spoke up, but he had turned his face away. Was this for her? Was it right to accept it? For all she knew, food in this town could be poison to her. The seemingly innocent boy could be a trap, a big, fat lie. Though... he was not fat. Rather, he looked like he needed more food. She was much better off than he... Her stomach rumbled. Nevermind, she wasn't going to question it. Food was food, and of course he meant to give it to her. What else could he have been doing? Waiting for her to bless the bun or something. At that she was surprised to find herself giggling. She took a bite of the warm soft bread, the spices and butter absolutely tickled her senses, filling her with involuntary joy. After taking another bite, she paused. Where had her manners gone?
"Thank you very much," she said to the boy. She was actually very relieved for the company. It was not the best time for her to feel alone, even though she was. "Please, sit down..." she saw that he had another roll too. "Eat with me?" She asked. Well... what a strange request, but she didn't want to lose this nice person. Suddenly whoever this was had become very important to her, like how a mother hen is immediately important to her dazed and confused chicks.
OOC Notes
Seth opened his mouth... and suddenly he couldn't stop his tongue.
"My life... or what I can remember of it, seemed pretty similiar to this.. don't know about you, but I never fitted anywhere..." Seth paused as something etched inside his head, something about not even fitting into someones heart...blowing past the idea he looked at his new companion again before ripping another peice of the pastry out of his mouth. "Rich people...well everyone, but rich people especially seem to want me to dissapear.. to them I'm just trash... garbage that doesn't seem to go anywhere but dance below their feet." Chuckling softly his suprisingly neat teeth arched.
"Hows the bun treating you? Found change in this shirt..." he said tapping his seemingly modern school attire, "Anyways..name's Seth. Seth...Genevere? Probably...and if you haven't found me to be too annoying, I'd like to hear about you...if you dont mind that is."
His smile seemed to ease more and more natural. His passion for talking has escaped his amnesia, which in a place like this, could probably mean a straight knife in the heart if you didn't watch your tongue. He laughed at the thought, when as he ever been afraid to die. Never probably, he lived for chances, and he was pretty lucky, biting again into the soft and sweet spiced bread.

Carol listened as the stranger talked. Seth, he had said his name was. She seemed much like she was in a daze as she munched on her bread, savoring every taste of it. This might be the only time she got to experience luxury in a place like this. She had no idea why she was so calm at that moment. Normally, she'd be running around like a maniac trying to figure out the how's, who's, why's. Even naturally, Carol couldn't just take life as it was. She had to know where it was going, how it was getting there, and why it decided to take that path... At least, that's what her family had always told her... It was probably because his voice was so peaceful and nice. It was just nice to have someone to talk to...
"It's treating me very nicely," she said, with a smile yet again. She could taste cinammon and icing stuck to the side of her mouth and she covered her mouth for a moment as she stuck a tounge out to lick it off. Hmm... she couldn't waste a bit. She chuckled a little, "Ah... some new clothes..." she looked down at hers, which were still pretty soaked. "I might need some of those." She took another bite of the cinammon roll, then propped her elbow on her knee, her head on her hand. She seemed to be in deep thought, maybe she just wanted to make a little dramatic pause.
"I wouldn't say I'm rich, but I certainly don't hate rich people. Though I look at some of them, especially the children of the rich parents who were born into the wealth, and think about how unfair they are. Actually, if I remember correctly the reason my parents got divorced was over money," she turned her head and looked him in the eyes before smiling and merrily taking another bite of the bread. She turned her face away, because right now she didn't care about manners so much but maybe Seth would. "Ahm..." she continued as she chewed, "well... I don't really know about fitting in. I'd like to think I do, but then of course everyone will occasionally have the strange sensations that they don't belong... Actually I have those quiet often... But I like to think of it as not having found where I belong yet, not that a place where I belong doesn't exist... if that makes any sense...," her cinammon roll was almost completely gone now. "Oh, I'm Carol by the way. Carol Raychild. And I don't find you annoying. You are very nice, a great person to talk to actually."
She thought for a moment. He didn't seem like he belonged here either, talking about rich people and everything. It's like they were in the same boat. She got up and wiped her hands on her pants legs. "Especially since I am utterly confused right now..."
OOC Notes
"I wouldn't be surpirsed if your utterly confused, I'm like that most of the time..." Looking away he saw the sun etching towards the horizon. People had left the bars and pubs and packing into homes that scurried the sides, he heard the sound of bolt locks and chains rattling. Raising a brow he brought his attention back to Clarisse....Cassie...no no.. to Carol.. "What you said about not having found the place where you belong..thats something I can agree to, still rooting for the place where I fit..." Grinning he stood there skinny and shirtless. The atmosphere was changing, he had a feeling for these things, it happen each time he would go to a town or something, the atmosphere here was changing rather hostile.
"Its getting dark. Me and you should find a place to hide...don't trust this place." Smiling he signaled her to go change in the alley behind the Bakery..which was like every other house...locked shut, windows closed and locked..something was up, and boy, he knew it wasn't just his stomach grumbling.
OOC Notes
Carol blinked, slightly confused, as Seth handed her his shirt. Well, it wasn't really his shirt. She looked at the tag... it said Steve... She smiled. But wasn't he going to be cold? Click, click, clank, her thoughts were interrupted as people began to shut their doors and windows, locking them from the inside. She clutched the shirt tighter in her hands. He was right, it was odd. "Curiouser and curiouser...," Carol mumbled, quoting Alice. She looked towards the buildings where he was gesturing.
"Yeah, hold on a moment," she said, and scurried towards the alleyway. She was cautious as she picked her way around the corners, but there didn't seem to be anything there to cause her worry. She slipped her wet and dirty orange shirt over her head, the sudden chill of the wind hitting her bareskin. She put her arms in the sleeves of the "new" t-shirt, and buttoned it up snug. Good, it was nice and warm. God bless Steve... whoever he was. She sighed, and was about to head back, when she heard a noise in front of her. The building she was hiding behind to change was a large brick one, not too far from the blacksmith's shop. One of the bricks near the bottom had been removed, blinking through it was a large yellow eye. And it was not normal. Carol shrieked, and whatever it was hissed and galavanted back off into the cellar.
She ran back towards the square, casting worried glances over her shoulder, but whatever it was didn't seem to be following. She reached where Seth was standing and bent over, catching her breath. One, two, three, four, five, six... The bell rang six times. It was six o'clock. The streets were absolutely empty, and it was getting cloudier... darker. "Where should we look for shelter then?" She asked Seth. "It looks like it might rain too..."
OOC Notes
Seth heard her shriek, it proved his theory correct, this place was far from normal. Seeing she out of breath, and he was in need for a warmup, he struggled to pick her up. He had forgotten his condition, a poorly fed boy, or man... couldn't lift a fresh, lively girl. He probably weighted more than him by 10 fold. Sighing he gave up.
"Excuse me for barging into your personal space there, I'd thought I could lift you and we would get outta here faster." Itching his head he grabbed her hand, his head buzzed but he pressed it aside, he had more important matters to attend to. Guided by only the smell of wine, he raced down the path, grabbing firmly to her hand. The bell chimed for 6 and it probably 6:12 P.M. Making a right he was met by a huge gate. The gold plating on the gate said something...under it he read the words electronics... whatever... he had no time. Seeing the gates were locked, but the walls seemed pretty climbable. Looking at her he closed his eyes, he believed this would work, or they'd be pretty boned. Getting on his knee's he signaled for Carol.
"Come Carol...It's do or die, everyone's doors locked, we can only hope to hide somewhere in here." Smiling at how he was dragging this girl along with him, he was reckless enough that he almost killed himself everyday, but then again, luck seemed be rooting for him. Seth braced himself as he propped his body and focused his strength onto his shoulders. "One foot at a time alright. When your over just wait, if I don't make it I want you to find a shed, something...Just don't stay outside.." Closing his eyes he only hoped for the best.
OOC Notes
He then made his way out to the tent, walking at his usual brisk pace, one learns to never get too comfortable when living in Pond Gates. That, my friend, is how you get yourself killed. And Christopher wasn't in the mood to die, he never was, really. The again, who was ever in the mood to die? Christopher doubted anyone was, dieing wasn't exactly something to look forward to. He finished the short walk to the tent and stepped inside, he liked to make sure nothing had broken during the day, or that no one had decided to try and steal something. He also liked to insure that all his performers got inside on time, wouldn't want any on them getting eaten or mauled or anything. That wouldn't be good for business, not at all.
His eyes instantly darted around the large floor of the tent, searching for anything that did look right. When he didn't immediately see anything he started walking closer to the ring, stopping dead in his tract when he heard a faint, 'help' from somewhere above him. He looked up and his eyes widened, there was Violet, just barely hanging on to the trapeze, which was fairly close to breaking. He swore and sprinted towards her, "Violet! Just hang on, okay? I'm gonna get you! I promise!" He yelled, all while frantically trying to think of a way to safely get her down. He instantly thought of many things, but none that would really work. He almost wanted to stop and think things through, but he had no time for that! He had to think of something. It's not like he could just catch her, she had to be fifty feet of the ground, at least Which begged the question, what was he going to do? He thought about the net no, took to long to set up, and he would need help, out of the question. He ran over to the ladder, he finally had an idea, maybe not his best idea, but he couldn't really think of anything else. He climbed up as quickly as he could and got himself situated, standing so he could get her. He shook his head, "Okay, I know you're gonna hate this, but try and swing over to me a little, you're not all that far." He reached out for her, "Come on now, I got ya." He braced himself, at least Violet was smaller than him, that would help.
((Okay, I'm getting tired. So this probably sucks at the end so, sorry.))

Anyways I'm all down for IC. As long as its somewhat similiar to forum posty's. Pond Lake sounds like a nice place to live, don't you guys think?
