It's been a strenuous evening in the bar. A spill here or there, some drunk slurring on about how they think the world should be run and who should run it, murmurs of rating girls from 1 to 10. Ruby enjoys her work she truly does. All of these strangers coming and going from all walks of life. Sometimes they want to have someone listen to them talking, otherwise they're simply there to drink. Very few of the men that come in are tolerable. Sometimes she's even picked up a couple of girls here, ignoring the attempts of men. Very few of the men that come in are tolerable. When they start hitting on her she informs them very quickly that she's gay. From there it's either awkward silence on the man's behalf or a friendly conversation begins. Ruby has been out of the closet since middle school. She's had a handful of girlfriends here or there but recently, for the last three months, she hasn't even so much as batted her eyelashes at a handsome woman riding a motorcycle. Ruby has been far too busy worrying about her best friend.

CeCe is a bright person, both in mind and personality. Whenever Ruby listens to CeCe speak it's as if she's hearing a flower blooming. The brunette progressively fascinates and enthralls Ruby with her voice. They've been close as sisters for years yet the redhead has begun to feel much more inclined to really stay close with CeCe. CeCe has never given any indication that she's a lesbian however and it's one of the key things holding Ruby back. She does not want to severe their relationship. If they could stay as friends that'd be fine...right? Ruby could watch her friend be happy and thrive in the city with her work. No doubt someone as charismatic as CeCe could become the next actress.

Ruby grabs a glass with a cloth braced over her knuckles, rubbing it down furiously. Right now things have begun to slow in the bar and it's only nearly midnight. Usually some regulars would be waking up by now and on their way for a drink before starting their nightlife, or the hard worker coming to the bar after an exhausting shift. Her vibrant emerald eyes focus on the work in her hands. Earlier tonight she's already spoken with a few of the patrons present. Well. She's listened to them more likely. Ruby can't have any of them listen to her. It's just too personal for her to let them know much of her life when she knows so much (often too much) of theirs.

CeCe sighed as she lay, now awake, in bed. Tonight had been longer than her nights normally were. She had been called to go help in the library, putting some new books on the shelves to they'd be there when the library opened in the morning. After that she had to go to her other job at the restaurant she waitressed at, which hadn't ended until just a few hours ago because of some dinner rush, or important customers or something. Anyway, her shift had run longer that it was supposed to. And than she would have liked it to. Thank God they didn't start play rehearsals for a few weeks. When it was finally over, CeCe had gone home to try to get some sleep. But, that didn't really work out. Instead of sleeping until morning, CeCe woke up after an hour or so, not able to go back to sleep. So she decided to just go and visit Ruby, and come back home when she was off of work. Maybe then she'd be able to get the sleep she so wanted.

Ruby had been her very best friend since...well ever since she could remember really. She was as close as family to her, and sometimes, CeCe liked her more than she did her family. She liked living with her, and she just liked being around her in general. But if she didn't, why would she go in the middle of the night just to see her? That definitely wasn't something she'd do with anyone else... Only Ruby.

The brunette slid out of bed and changed out of her pajamas into a clean dress, because it was quick. And even though they weren't dirty, CeCe was not going to put the clothes that she'd been wearing back on. Just...just no. Soon enough she was ready to go, and within a few minutes, was on her way to the bar, and Ruby. It wasn't her favorite place in the world, but as soon as she was sitting there talking to her friend, she'd be okay.

When she got there, it was a very quick-paced walk into the bar and over to the counter to wait until Ruby noticed her there. CeCe decided to stay quiet and let the girl see her on her own. Kind of like a surprise.

Everything just seemed to melt together in a steep haze. Voices slowly drizzle out of her head but remain just within that margin of being heard, not understood. Nothing is going on right now at the bar but the glass Ruby is so diligantly cleaning out. This happens a lot; when someone finds "the zone" while at work or doing a hobby. Little else seems to occur save for whatever it is one is doing at that precise moment. Ruby feels this usually at work but has always had it happen to her whenever she finds herself spending time with CeCe. It's not fair in all honesty. This and interwoven with the fact that due to her intense focus she basically has tunnel vision it takes Ruby a couple of seconds to realize just who it is sitting at the bar counter now. "Be with you in a second, star." another habit she tends to call others "star".

Looking up she jumps a bit. Lo and behold, like a dream, the person she can't stop thinking about is sitting right across from her at this hour. Her cinnamon tresses fluttered a bit when she had jumped, not enough to muss her bun though with its layered bangs hanging along her brow. "O-oh! Hey CeCe, I didn't expect to see you here...at all.", she notes with a hint of sympathy. CeCe doesn't entirely enjoy herself at the bar, but Ruby is still pleased to see her best friend here, "Do you want anything to drink? On the house since you rock that dress." a harmless, friendly compliment. Ruby has been giving a lot of those lately. Usually it's how one would flirt but between close friends it's easily written off as just being nice. She'd most likely have to do something blunt or embarrassing to actually flirt with CeCe. Not that the redhead will allow herself to.

Still something feels...off. A customer signals for a cold beer and Ruby holds up a hold-that-thought palm to CeCe. She dipped down into the cooler and pulled one up, sliding it down to the man before inclining her head curiously to the brunette. "Is everything alright?"

CeCe couldn't keep back a little giggle at Ruby's reaction. Mostly because it was kind of what she'd been expecting. The brunette smiled and put her elbow up on the counter to rest her head in the palm of her hand, scooting closer to the counter to the best of her ability. “Surprise.” she replied happily, yet calmly. CeCe scanned around with her eyes quickly, just before hearing Ruby speak again. It took her a second for her to process the compliment, but since such things were hard for her to resist, it didn’t slip past her. The brunette opened her mouth to reply, but quickly closed it again before any sound escaped. She decided to be rational and think about how she'd answer. Did she want a drink? Yeah...kind of. But when she was ready, Ruby wasn't.

CeCe waited patiently for her friend to tend to the other person before she finally spoke again. "Yeah, of course everything's fine." the brunette assured, lifting up her head to rest both her arms on the table. "Besides. If something was wrong, you know I would have said something right away." she added with a sweet smile. "Anyway, I'll take you up on that drink. I think it was that compliment was what really got me. Do you do that often?" CeCe asked followed by a little giggle. She took her eyes off of Ruby for a couple seconds, squinting her eyes a bit as she looked at everything behind the girl. "Lemon Drop please?" the brunette finally requested, almost innocently, as she pushed some of her hair behind her ear, CeCe's blue eyes once again meeting Ruby's green ones.
