"Just like the real thing, give or take a toe."
Name: Loki Lostlight
Species: Shapeshifter
Species info: There have been many shapeshifters passed down in lore throughout humaity's history, and although an iconic example of mythological creature, but are incredibly rare, even by the standards of mythology. In fact, Loki himself is unaware of how he came to be and has never known another member of his species - if there is one that is. Shapeshifters can, as their name suggests, change their appeareance, but are restricted in changing their shape, as the shape they take must be no bigger than a humanoid, and it is difficult for a shapeshifter to transform into somebody he sees based on a vague sight, as, although they can make estimates, it is difficult to measure how someone looks like and sounds entirely without great study. In fact, most of the people Loki has taken the identity of have either been spied on by him for weeks in advance, or assassinated, and had their corpses dissected in studied, so that his replicate of his anatomy is perfect. To add to the burdens of their powers, transforming is an incredibly painful process, taking several minutes of incredible focus, lest there be horrible mistakes made, such as transformations with missing limbs or malformed skeletal structure.
Likes: Trickery, the dark, perfection, waiting, money
Dislikes/fears: Humanity, transforming, answering (stupid) questions, working in a team
Monster Appearence: Not even Loki knows his real appearance, his earliest memories having been formed in a human form
Human Appearence: A long, thin face, almost skeletal, with long black hair is Loki's preferred human appearance, usually found wearing a black trench coat, shirt and trouser combo, underneath which is an incredibly flexible jumpsuit used to make sure he always has a fitting outfit. Tall and lean, but not so much of any quality which would make him stand out, Loki's appearance has been chosen to blend with the shadows - and does so excellently.
Special Abilities: Transform, with all the bells, whistles and setbacks mentioned in the species info. Having a mastered his art, Loki is also capable of making small changes quickly before a fight, such as increasing his muscle mass, but is also aware of the risks in doing so, as getting distracted in such a transformation can cause ligament damage, painful in its self, and difficult to transform to health due to the added physical toll limiting any shapeshifting abilities. In fact, although in theory a shapeshifter should be able to revert to healthier states in order to undo wounds, the focus shattering effect such pain can have makes it incredibly impractical, or at least, nedding a state of complete relaxation, which will more than likely not be found somewhere you would incur such wounds.
Bio: Born hundreds of years ago (aging is less of an issue when your body can be changed to a newer one when necessary) in mysterious circumstance, he was found by a royal guard at the age of three, roaming a castle's grounds. The kind sentinel decided to adopt the apparent orphan, who at that stage, despite his apparent few years of age, was entirely incapable of communication, however showed an incredible ability towards learning, and had soon caught up to his classmates by ten. It was then he discovered his ability, when playing with his friend one of his fingers grew to a bulbous size. Adoptive parents instantly brought him to the nearast doctors, who, baffled, passed him onto academics who in front of their very eyes restored the appendage, not necessarily to its original state, but to a more regular size. Following this, between studies, Loki would meet with the academics daily, hoping to channel this latent ability. Before long, he was transforming hands, limbs, even faces, and one of the scholars, advisor to the nation's king, told his superior of the wonderchild. The king, a wily, if tyrannical leader, saw the child's potential as spy and assassin and called immediately for the child to be kept within the castle indefinitely to master his talents, executing his adoptive parents to ensure that there would be no outcry. Forced into a choice, live and become a tool or simply die, the child made the only decision he could, and mastered his talent moving into childhood, spending the next ten years following orders. However, as was always likely to happen, Loki channeled all the paitence he had had to master to study the human form, deciding to take his vengance on the king whoo had sent for his parents murder and his own incarceration, studying one of the many servants of the castle, mimicing them, assassinating the king by poisoning him, then leaving the castle at the shift of the staff, fleeing the city as hysteria and panic started developing within the castle walls. From there on, Loki sold his services, mastering his abilities, his apathy towards humanity growing as he noted, not only had humanity forced him into servitude, it seemed as if the only people suspicious enough to spy on each other, or even murder each other were humans. Within time, he began to hate the human guise he wore, only wearing for the sake of his job, which he used to amass quite a fortune. Living his downtime in what appeared to be an abandoned mansion that he had built in a secluded valley, Loki enjoyed his lifestyle, but was constantly wrathful about the fact it was only possible due to those despisable bags of skin. As a result, when the war broke out, he immediately approached the de facto leader of the mythological army with his services, his reputation preceding him, he quickly became an important part of the myth's initial plan. Through assassins like him, the heirachy of human culture was damaged irreperably through the murder of authority figures, leading humaity's unity to be shattered, a species ruled by committee. After all, the power vacumn was too vast for any one man to fill and led to easy victories across the land, as it became clear not only were myths greater fighters than humans, they were generally greater planners too, especially when planners had been removed. Now that job is done, spying is Loki's main role, as is taking part in battle, using battlecraft forged over centuries, and he looks forward to a retirement, after forcing the race he was adopted into into extinction.
(Sorry if it went off tracks near the end, it took much longer than it should have, and I'm feeling the bags under my eyes. But I like it on the whole. If something needs changing PM me, so I can sort it out.Thank you for reading!)
