Dazen Phyrex

"...I don't need your help...But thanks for being here anyway." (The Prism's bastard son)

0 · 213 views · located in Rekton

a character in “Refracted Light”, originally authored by SkullJester, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Name: Dazen Geth (hides using his father's last name, for obvious reasons)

Age: 17

Height and Weight: 6'2" and about 188 lbs.

Eye Color: A pale blue, almost grey, with red halos.

Attire: He is finely dressed under his tattered traveling robe. Not the finest but enough to show that he came from a well off family.

Desires: To live. To have a normal life. To finally have some friends.

Fears: Almost all weapons and other magic users. He doesn't know who and what to trust.

Addictions: When he is upset, he plays his violin...other than that, he has no real addictions.

Profession: Came to the town under the guise of being an apprentice metal smith.

He excels in red light and luxin, and his secondary color is green. He is pretty gifted in red but barely registered green at all. He can barely use it.

He isn't too terrible strong but bright and quick witted. He's not weak, physically by any means, but he'll be damned if he ever admits to being able to throw a decent punch.

Personality

He is scared obviously. He comes off as skittish and shy. Truth is, he is a really nice guy and a strong leader, even if seems clueless at times. Loyal to the last breath, however, if betrayed, he almost never forgives. He isn't very trusting at first, but thats because his father made sure to make him wary of every stranger he'd meet on his way. Never know who is a spy and who isn't. Or an assassin. Or, as his father warned him of the most, a false friend. He has...a bit of a temper when threatened. After cowering that is. If pushed into a corner, he lashes out.

Equipment

Aside from his violin, the only thing he took from his home aside from the clothes on his back, he has his red spectacles. He also has a ring his false father gave him before he died, a simple silver pinky ring that he wears as a necklace. The Prism also gave him an ornate pistol, loaded with a self renewing chamber that fires orange luxin gunshot. Its a wheel-lock, so it takes a little longer to fire consecutive shots but its more accurate. He's terrified of the weapon.

History

Dazen had never had a normal life. Being born into one of the noble families, even if they were a lesser tier than the rest, meant he had certain obligations. But it never felt right. He hated being rich. Hated all the spoils he never asked for. He tried to work for himself, without his parents help. Eventually they understood and let him make his own way in life. After his father's funeral, his mother shattered the world he knew. She told him that he wasn't just a bastard...in the blood sense of the word. That didn't shock him. He had always loved his parents, but he looked nothing like them. But who his father was? The most powerful man in the world? The Prism? As his dad?! He was shocked...and he knew he would never have the normal life he wanted. He spent years being trained in the Chromeria, the place where luxiants are taught how to use their powers. Then, one day, he was pulled out of class. Barred from attending. He spoke to his real father, for only the fourth time in his life. In five years he only spoke to the Prism four times. But he had always been kind, polite, joking, caring, and...as he grew, proud. And sad that he hadn't had the guts to raise him himself. He told him that the Spectrum had found out about his existence and who he was. And while the Spectrum were fair and usually just, they all had their personal reasons for wishing to do the Prism harm. They couldn't harm him directly, so now, they would go after his son. He was forced to flea...and he ran far far away. Its been about a week now. No ones come after him yet...but he was still scared. But he arrived where his Father told him to go. So far, so good.

So begins...

Dazen Phyrex rubbed the grin from his eyes and tried to stretch his impossibly stiff muscles, which only resulted in bringing him pain. He groaned and wanted to just collapse. All this trouble...just because of who his Dad was? At least now he could see the town on the horizon. Yesterday, it felt like he'd never find the place and he had long ago run out of fresh water to drink. Being this close to the Golden Waste meant it was pretty hot outside, and his clothes were matted with sweat. He staggered into the town, trying not to draw too much attention. He saw a few houses, twenty at most, and what looked to be a town hall and a general store. Closer to what he guessed would be the The Bridge, he saw rising smoke. Which was probably the blacksmiths. Which meant even more walking. He needed to rest though. Needed a drink. Avoiding all indirect attempts at communication, he walked into the store...and saw it was mostly bare. He looked around at the jars of fresh water on the shelf and almost burst into tears. "Thank Anitia..." Everything about Dazen's posture and the way he carried himself made him seem weak. And the fact that his voice almost broke while he was paying for his refreshment.

Dazen Phyrex approached the counter with a few jars...enough to water a horse actually. He almost dropped a few, blushing under his hood from his own clumsiness. He stuttered, his voice very minute and young sounding. "I-I'd like to p-pay for these...I-I didn't see how much they were though..." He began to ruffle around inside his pockets, his hand clenching around a full danar. Was he stupid? How could he pay with a danar? This place couldn't possible exchange that much money..."Uh..." He set the money on the counter, his head down.

Dazen Phyrex sputtered and wished he had a small knife. "I can cut off a few...I-If's it okay for me to borrow a knife?" He gulped. He hated when people thought he was weak and he could always tell. He could feel the wild side of Green try to make its voice known in his mind but Green barely touched him at all. "I know its a lot to ask, but could I just do that?" His voice had a little resolve now and he lifted his head, his hood falling back. If anything, she'd notice the red halos in his eyes first. He sure did notice the clear rings in hers.

Dazen Phyrex tried to smile, pulling his hood back up. "Uh...thanks. Both of you. Sorry for being any trouble." He collected his jars and hurriedly ran out the store. He was pretty fast. As soon as he found a place to sit down, outside to almost run-down Church of Anitia, and began to guzzle down his water. He examined the town more carefully now. It had more houses than he thought, but was still in pretty bad shape. There wasn't anything that looked like an Inn but he did see a place that seemed to be a tavern of shorts. There was no horses or corals in sight, not that the land looked fertile enough to grow anything more than potatoes and beats. He had seen a few chickens running around though. Finishing half his jars, he started to make his way towards the blacksmith. He was almost three days late now...

Dazen Phyrex arrived quicker than he expected. It wasn't that far away from the town, maybe a ten minute walk from the closest house at best. But his feet still hurt, even after their rest. He suddenly realized that...he had no idea to smith. At all. He gulped as he walked into the store, surprised to see the house had no back wall. Wait. If it did, it would've made it even hotter in here. Suddenly, someone turned him around, as soon as he had closed the door, and started yelling at him. For being late. For being very late. He winced and asked what he needed to door. The smith master, much to the amusement of his other apprentices, threw a bucket at his head, which he barely managed to catch. "Go get water from the river...Go!" He yelled again, even as Dazen was full out sprinting for the river.

Dazen Phyrex was busy scooping up the buckets of water, two now. Some stranger had appeared and thrown a second bucket at him as well before crouching down to cool off. He couldn't help but sniffle a little, not expected such rough treatment right off the bat. He began to draw in some red, which fed his anger but then he had to stop. He couldn't afford to expose himself to anyone...Then something dawned on the young man as he looked at the other boy. "Hey...you were at the store...you paid for me water, right?" He was suddenly wary that he was being followed...

Dazen Phyrex sighed and actually shied away from the intense glare...What had he done to deserve that? Probably everything...He watched him go for a moment, wondering why he put up with everyone's shit. Sighing, Dazen hefted the water, glad they weren't too heavy, and made his way back to the smith's house, sitting the water where he was, harshly, told to do so. The smith master turned and tossed him a hammer. "Pull the products from the second furnace. New fence post for the Church. Smash them flat, cool them, and stick them back in." The bastard child sighed and began his work...

Dazen Phyrex worked himself to a sweat, wishing he wasn't wearing his fine clothes from the Prism's Tower under his robes. It made his arms itch like crazy now that he was really sweating. But he wouldn't stop. He had to prove he was good enough for something so simple. He pulled the stakes out from the fire and smashed them rapidly until they were as flat as the Master had shown and then cooled them. After placing them back in the fire, he began to clean his station, waiting for the smith to tell him when to take them out again. He was soaked, sore, and tired after only ten minutes but he knew that he needed this...

Dazen Phyrex continued to work, his arms deadened now. That actually made it easier, in an odd way. He was on his second set of planks now, and he noticed the smith raising a brow at him. Maybe he was impressed. Then a bucket slammed into his chest again. Then another. All the buckets from all the other apprentices and the master himself. "More water. Now. Go. Hurry back." There was a growl to his voice that sent the timid young man bolting.

Dazen Phyrex dunked his head in the water as soon as he got there, coming back up very short of breath but feeling a million times better. Soon, he was absent mindly filling the buckets, not aware that he was being watched...He thought he heard a click but thought nothing of it...However, on the other side of the river, someone was loading up a crossbow, the orange coating of luxin hiding all but the glint of the crossbow bolt...

Dazen Phyrex couldn't tell what was going on. One minute, he had been at peace, in the silent stillness of the wasteland border, cooling himself when suddenly chaos erupted around him. He saw the arrow hit what he had thought to be a small dune. As soon as it had though, he felt himself being pulled back, and knew he was being yelled at, but he couldn't much hear what his savior was saying, with dozens of crossbow bolts whizzing around them. As soon as he was 'safe' he stuttered when he saw it was the young boy from before! He couldn't answer a single question but began to draw on as much red as he could...

Dazen Phyrex looked at the flint the younger boy held in his hand as he nursed his wound, the cold water from the river doing wonders to stifle the burn on the cut. "Y-yeah. Just...give it here." Dazen gulped between breaths. He was pretty new to this kind of pain and that was obvious, as it seemed to have taken a lot out of him. He looked over his shoulder, the men trying to wipe the sticky, flammable jelly red from their clothes to little avail, a few leaping into the river to try and wash it off. "Actually...you got a bow right? Think you can hit a rock near one of them or something? With the flint?"

Dazen Phyrex looked over his shoulder once more, pointing to a rock smack in the middle of one of the larger clusters. "There! Right there, just strike there if you can." He quickly re-ducked to avoid another passing arrow, wincing as it barely missed him. Some of the attackers weren't coated in the red sludge. "Hurry!"

Dazen Phyrex let out a yelp when he felt the heat on his back, the concussive force almost knocking him over. He wiggled away from the boy's grip and gave a look out, gasping. Men were screaming, running around cloaked in flames. They thought to run into the water but the stick goo just reacted to the oxygen and continued to burn, maybe not as intense, but still aflame. He kept his eyes peeled to the scene, unable to look away. He was entranced, never seeing so much violence, his mind not knowing how to react.

Dazen Phyrex couldn't help but be pulled along by the boy, gasping after all the running. He was in shape but not exactly fit. "I-I...I know that! I just thought I could relax! One day!" He nearly growled. Having used all that red, he had lost a bit of his logic and was giving into his emotions, mostly fear and anger at being yelled at. He tore his arm out of Inaoro's grasp, giving a growl, the crimson halo's of his eyes shining. "I didn't ask you to watch or follow me!" He was definitely losing it...

Dazen Phyrex glared red hot daggers into the blue's back, wishing he could lash out, his red temper begging him to do so. Why didn't he just attack him and get it over with? Why not strike and run far. Far far away from all these people. Just go, live alone. These people didn't really care for him. He had no friends here...But...the girl, the store girl...she'd been kind. And the smith master...rough but he showed him support. And, for a brief hour, a home...He looked around, seeing more men taking places, pulling odd, coiled vials from their pockets. Tubes full of red liquid. "Oh no..."

Dazen Phyrex let out a gasp, just as the corner of the alleyway ahead burst into flames. He turned to look at his 'guard' and let out a growl. "Then it sucks to be you!" He raised a wall of green between them and took off out the alley, seeing the screaming villagers, those trying to flee cut down. He saw the girl from earlier, along with...a dog and a bird? And another girl. He shook his head and ran to them. "No!" He doubt he could hear them over the flames and yells of terror. They were headed for the edge of town, he had to try and stop them.

Dazen Phyrex let out a sharp growl. "I was trying to help them! Stop trying to boss you around you asshole!" He was really losing his temper, but using green had calmed him down a little bit. "And for your information..." He regarded the girl from earlier, glad the light of the fire hid his blush. "T-the town is under attack. They want someone...I think its me. They are killing everyone who runs out of town. I saw..." He gulped. "A family ran out the north gate...all of them shot down with arrows..." He looked back to the boy and narrowed his eyes. "The river...we take the river out. Get to the Golden Waste. Father told me about a safe house there...."

Dazen Phyrex had to obey this time around. He knew, as he calmed down, that this kid was more suited to this kinda thing then he was. He hadn't seen anyone near the river before, hopefully it was still pretty desolate. Hopefully. He turned to the shop girl and tried to give a smile. It turned into a nervous, half-smile. "I...Thanks...I'm so sorry....I didn't want to come here. Go anywhere...I knew I'd get people hurt. Wrapped up in this." He hated himself now more than ever....
