Beyond the human realm is the Spirit realm. Though humans don;t know of it's existence that doesn't mean the two realms are safe together. Demons use a thing call the curtain which is where the two realms cross and the spirits or humans can pass to the next realm. Unfortunatly humans can't see it and don't know in which to pass threw. The bad part is demons and spirits alike can see it. In fact they do use it to huant the living or for worse kill them off.
To protect the world against unholy world the Reikai-Senshi were founded by those who can go into spiritual form. Your spiritual form is unlike the human form so the user becomes a whole new person. When in Reikai form the user is able to fight demons off. There are many diffrent types of Reikai-Senshi varying from warrior who use blades and there spirit form resemble samurai's/ Then there are archers who use arrows and resemble humans in a whole/ Mages then who are magic users.
