A cleric of the Stonewardens, an elite guard for dwarven cities.
Bolken is stern, yet fair. He rarely laughs or makes jokes, but he is quick to help someone in need
Nothing as of yet, but his hammer and shield await him in the Heroes' tomb.
During the siege of Bebbanburg, a dwarven stronghold in the heart of a great mountain range, all had seemed lost. Hobgoblins and dark wizards were marching on the gates, rumors of a dragon overlord making nervous watchmen scan the stalactites for at every shadow. Two of the three thanes that had reached Bebbanburg were mortally wounded, a strange infection had taken over and it was feared that not much time was left. In the temple of Reaxe a lone dwarf prayed for salvation, refusing food and drink for two weeks as others scorned him and prepared for the worst. Finally The dwarf stood and walked into the Sacred Forge where only the high priest was allowed to go. Minutes in the Sacred Forge of Reaxe are days and days years. For the span of six months the dwarf worked tirelessly to forge a single hammer. It's design simple, with a single angular spike on one end. The hammer was unmarked and still hot when he brought it before the stone throne of Reaxe. Reaxe smiled upon the dwarf and his hammer became etched in lines and dwarven cuneiform.
A boy sat in the temple, praying to Reaxe for protection. Today he would become a man or die. he had come here to ask for a blessing from the last priest that was said to be here, but the priest seemed to have fled with the women and children. The boy could not blame him.
"Reaxe, make my arm like iron, so it does not tire. Make my heart as steadfast as stone. ... If I die, make it so that others may live."
The boy felt a firm grip on his shoulder and looked up to see what could be nothing other than Reaxe himself in armor of burnished gold and a war hammer that shone more brightly than the brightest star. "Reaxe! Have you come to save us?"
Many years later the boy would think back to the first time he had met Bolken Brighthammer and all the things he had learned from him since. The Battle of Thanegard where Bolken and one hundred Stonewardens took the walls and recaptured the symbol of the Thane's power in the Vergban mountain ranges. Countless small engagements and more than a few last stands. That boy would become Thane Isaac one day and rule with strength and compassion, taking heart in the lessons he learned from the holy warrior of Reaxe, Bolken Brighthammer.
