Abilities
When a serious man turns drunk without the use of alcohol, or when a naturally cheery person acts as though they might be suicidal even though nothing terribly traumatic has occurred in their lives, that's when you know that Lydia Fatebane has recently been feeding. This demon's powers are unique in their own way. Instead of simply sucking out the pure life force of her victims, Lydia absorbs the personality of a person, as well as their emotions. This leaves her victims in a strange state that forces them to act the opposite of their usual demeanor. She does her feeding by simply staring into her desired prey's eyes. Once she's locked on to their glare, the target becomes paralyzed for a few short moments as Lydia's eyes turn a bright gold color, and the aura of the victim transfers from their body to hers. This ability is valuable not only because she is able to manipulate her victims once she's fed on them, but because the aura she drains from her targets enters her body and goes through a process similar to that of photosynthesis. From there, the person's aura will then give her one of many different possible powers. For example, an energetic or flirtatious person will give her powers of pyrokinesis, while a cold-hearted victim will allow her to use cryokinesis. There are many possibilities and it is exciting for Lydia to adapt to new abilities given to her by different types of people. In addition to feeding, Lydia can also teleport to places she's been to before, and use intangibility to walk through solid matter. However, although her powers may be somewhat advanced, she has quite a few weaknesses that give almost any ordinary person an upper-hand on her...

Weaknesses
Sunlight- Similar to a vampire, Lydia will burn in sunlight unless she has protection or cover. (Such as a hood, which she wears quite often) Brief unprotected exposure to sunlight merely stings her, but too much exposure can actually be fatal for her body and can kill her if not treated in time.
Emotions- Perhaps her biggest, baddest, and most tragic flaw: due to her powers, if Lydia expresses any type of emotion herself or tries to develop some sort of unique personality, she will undergo a trance-like state that can only be described as "extremely dangerous". From the way she's talked about it in the past, this state can literally mean the slaughtering of many people, and the destruction of towns and cities. Nobody knows for sure what really happens when she enters the trance, but if there's one thing for sure, this weakness means that Lydia is quite similar to a wanted criminal, as evil spirits seeking to have power and dominion over the world are always after her and trying to make her crack.
Telepathy- Most demons are able to use the psychic power of telepathy. However, Lydia has never been able to access the power even once. Back in her childhood, her sister used to pick on her often for this flaw.
Father- Lydia may be powerful, but her father is even more powerful. Highly feared among the demon community, if he were to approach Lydia again, she'd probably wind up dead.

Skills
Hunting- Because she isn't always willing to feed on actual human beings, Lydia goes hunting often and absorbs the behavior of animals. While it doesn't give her the real pleasure that feeding on actual personalities gives her, it's just enough to hold her over. She uses hunting rifles all the time, as they allow her to express feelings of anger and rage that she cannot show through facial expressions.
Meditation- As it puts her into a somewhat tranquil state and allows her to concentrate, Lydia is skilled at the art of meditation.
Historian/Memory- She reads quite often, and so the young woman can remember things from many pieces of literature that include legends, people from the past, and places.

Fears
Her father capturing her | Destruction because of careless actions | Experiencing love (not because she hates it, but due to the emotion's power, falling in love for her would probably mean the end of Teraton for others) | No protection against sunlight |

Mysterious | Dark | Monotone | Sarcastic | Misanthropic | Pessimistic | Introverted | Protective | Destructive | Taciturn |

Lydia Fatebane is one of those people who believes that when life gives you lemons, you take the lemons and either chuck them at life's face or squeeze the lemon juice in life's eyes. Yes; being a cold-blooded demon, this girl has an appetite for destruction that would make Genghis Khan blush. However, she tends to keep her aggressive tendencies on a down-low, as she always has to be aware of her emotions and how she is expressing them. In fact, Lydia is unable to naturally develop her own personality due to conflicts with her emotional weakness. That being said, those who first meet Lydia describe her as being dark and mysterious. With a monotone look and constant scowl on her face, people brand her as the girl who "doesn't have a soul". She's awfully quiet and introverted, so she usually doesn't have anything to say in most situations. However, when she does have something to say, it's either sarcastic, or insulting. This isn't always a bad thing, however, as her impulsive honesty can sometimes be quite humorous in the eyes of others. Professing to be a misanthrope, Lydia claims that she is cynical towards humankind, and would prefer not to be around any source of human life if possible. However, not everyone who knows her believes this to be true, as she is still willing to make friends, or "allies" despite her hatred...

In fact, if one were to dig down deeper into Lydia's behaviour, they'd find that she's really not so mean-spirited after all. Sure, she likes to point out people's flaws, but she'd never hurt someone with the actual intention of bringing them down. If something is good, innocent, or righteous, Lydia has the conscience to not tamper with it. She is truly caring and protective of those who are close to her, even though she may not show it emotionally. She will help others when need be, and can even give good advice to those who need it, as she is very intelligent. Being monotone does have its advantages, as it allows Lydia to stay calm and collected in most dangerous situations. Although she'd usually rather be safe than sorry and play by the rules, there have been times when the brown-haired demon has been rebellious, and negligent towards immoral traditions. Even though she may make sarcastic remarks about those with strange, different personalities, this girl has paved her own ways in life quite a few times.

There have been many times in her past when Lydia has felt slight remorse over her lack of identity/personality. However, whenever she has fed herself too much, becoming "full", her body will experience something similar to a sugar-rush. Her scowl turns into a smile, and Lydia's dark and depressing attitude turns into that of a spunky, energetic, and genuinely cheerful young woman. (she also still retains her wittiness and sarcasm)

In the international demon community, the Fatebanes are a household name. With an incredibly long lineage and aristocratic-like power, they are both feared and well-respected. Because of this, Lydia has never had a normal childhood. Similar to faerie and selkie sanctuaries, the Fatebanes resided in a large castle near the northern Norwegian coastline that was concealed from the public eye. Lydia was born on January 12 to Cyrus Fatebane (the powerful matriarch and leader of the family) and his wife, Hermia Fatebane. The young girl's powers were known when she was born, as the prophet of the family had foretold of her strengths and emotional weakness. As a result, Lydia was raised in solitude during her early years so that no emotional ties could be built between herself and her family. Her younger sister, Ruby, was born a year later.

When she grew older and was allowed to live with the rest of her kin, Lydia learned that she was quite different from her parents, uncles, aunts and sister. For one thing, when the tightly-knit relatives feasted on the human cattle brought up from their castle dungeon, most of them sucked blood or absorbed raw life-force, and Lydia only fed on personality, never actually draining her meals to death. Her sister absorbed her victims' intelligence, but yet she could still kill. The Fatebanes are considered to be extremely predgidous towards humans and other magical species. The pure-blooded family is even biased towards half-blooded demons. From the influence around her, the young girl learned to grow ignorant to all other species as well. She grew even more hatred towards humans when her mother died. One morning, her entire family walked into their dining room to find Hermia Fatebane dead and bleeding, while Cyrus held her in her arms, crying and claiming that vampire hunters had raided the castle and killed her in the middle of the night. Lydia was clearly sad, but obviously was forced to suppress her brokenheartedness due to her emotional weakness. Instead of crying that day, she broke all the windows in the house.

After the death of her mother, it wasn't long until her father married someone else. Her name was Sabrina Morthlock, and she was cruel, cold, strict, and forceful. However, Lydia does not remember seeing too much of her in her past. When she was about ten years old, Cyrus Fatebane grew more serious towards his first-born daughter. Now that she knew about vampire hunters, he didn't hesitate to tell her about the Dark Ages, a time when demons and other species were hunted down and killed due to human injustice. He told her that with her strength, she would be the one to strike revenge against the humans and make the world free for all magical species. Without hesitation, Lydia committed herself to learning all that she could about combat and her powers. She met with many influential people, and received much attention in her father's coven/army. Sometimes, she was even taken to small villages so that she could train and kill like she would eventually do in the future. With her sister in the spotlight, Ruby grew jealous. One day, Lydia was given a human bodyguard so that she would be safe from those who would try to kill her. In the middle of the night, Ruby slaughtered the man just so she could prove that she was stronger, and more worthy of the title as Lydia's bodyguard. Her father agreed to his youngest daughter's pleas, and so Ruby was taught how to fight as well. When Lydia asked Cyrus when she would be able to start her mission and reclaim her world for the magical species, her father told her that she would begin her mission when she turned seventeen.

The day of her seventeenth birthday, Lydia was going to have a celebration at night where she would finally show emotion, and use her trance-like state to start "purifying" the earth. It was on that day that a human servant approached her and told the girl the truth...all of it. He revealed that her mother, Hermia, was never murdered by vampire hunters, but by her own husband in the middle of the night because he had learned she was a half-demon. He also told her that Cyrus was only using Lydia to practically reform the world into a place where demons would rule, and he would be king. The girl didn't particularly believe him at first...until she did more research during the day. From her grandmother, she learned that since birth, Hermia was practically forced into a marriage with Cyrus only so that his powerful daughter could be born. She was going to try and save Lydia from his influence, but was killed before she had the chance to steal the girl away. Knowing the truth, Lydia knew what she had to do. Stepping into her family's courtyard during the night of a full moon, she pretended as though she would eventually seep into her trance, but teleported when her father asked her to due so.

From then on, Lydia was on the run for the rest of her life. Because her bitchy and crazed sister was in charge of protecting her, she chased the girl and confronted her many times, urging her to come home through the use of violence. The monotone young woman was able to hold her sister off every time they met. However, things started to grow progressively worse. Her sister placed a bounty on Lydia, and stated that if any demon coven found her and brought her back to safety, they would be handsomely rewarded. The girl was actually kidnapped a few times, but escaped and managed to leave the continent of Europe and move into Canada. Knowing that she was like a wanted criminal, Lydia took extra caution in all confrontations she had with demons and other magical species. However, she was still being hunted down despite her carefulness.

Eventually, she thought of a plan; since most of the demons in her family and in her father's army were weak to sunlight, she would move into a warm-climated area. Teraton, North Carolina seemed to be the perfect choice, as it not only was home to a sunny beach, but it was a safe haven for a variety of species such as shapeshifters, selkies, witches, etc. Lydia has moved into Teraton three months ago, and has taken residence in an abandoned house. She does not have a job, and retains a mysterious aura amongst the Teraton community. She has taken interest in the shapeshifter population, as she wants to become a member of one of their packs for alliance purposes. However, she knows that joining them is not her place. Nobody has tried to capture her since she first moved into the town, but the young woman still has her eyes open, and is quite cynical towards most of the citizens of the Teraton.

The Summer Solstice Festival has been a staple of the Teraton community far before it became set aside for the relocation process of the supernatural community in the area. Once simply referred to as the Summer Fair, it has now come to be called by a more appropriate name. It is most greatly celebrated by the witch community of the somewhat small town, and many run stalls or have special sales for the event. Lights are strung across buildings and trees to create a magical, picturesque atmosphere. The festival is something that most look forward to, and while it is not incredibly large, it is a dear part of the community.

It serves as many things. For the witch community, it is expected that young witches, coming of age, begin to create some product, or develop some skill for a service, which they will demonstrate here. The faerie community is also known to take special joy in the event, especially the summer fae, as a matter of course given that it is a summer holiday. Many people also take it as a romantic event, and the music [different bands or DJs on various corners] as well as the lights help this concept along. It also happens to line up to be just after the schools get out, so clusters of high schoolers, middle schoolers, and elementary schoolers can often be seen in various places.

Attractions of Note

Whether it happened after a restless sleep or a deep, long meditation, Lydia Fatebane awoke from her bed in a jolt. When her eyes opened, they stared up towards the dark ceiling in fear. For a second, she felt the breath that had been stored in her lungs simply vanish from within her body, and into thin air. When her consciousness and breathing were restored momentarily, the demon pushed herself forward, and dangled her legs from off of the edge of her stiff bed. She ran her cold hands over her pale-white forehead to find that she was sweating. How long had she been out? She checked the large and rusty master clock beside her only to notice that it was now around six o'clock in the evening.

With her throat feeling groggy and her muscles tense, Lydia dropped down to the creaky wooden floor and began to walk out of her bedroom down the stairs that were chipped and broken here and there. There was a reason why her house seemed to match the girl's lacking spirit. The house in which she lived had been abandoned for many decades. It simply collected dust from the end of the street as innocent children gazed upon it, claiming the rickety home to be haunted. It was dark, freezing, tattered, lonely, and somewhat invisible to the eyes of the neighbors who lived next door. To those who entered inside, it felt like living in a coffin. In other words, the house was without a doubt Lydia's dream home.

Somehow, upon first moving to the house, the girl had found a way to get some of the water and electricity in the first floor running properly again. Because the inside of her neck felt painfully dry, the mysterious demon decided she'd get herself a glass of water. She wasn't hungry, as she had hunted earlier in the day and fed herself enough so that by afternoon, she was full of energy. She opened the cabinet, grabbed one of the untainted white glasses, and made her way towards the steel sink. Before she could even get the water running, she stopped in her tracks, her eyes giving off the impression of immediate danger.

"Hey, Lydia."

The voice was seductive, and insane-like in tone. No doubt, it was her sister's.
"Fuck off, Ruby," Lydia softly exclaimed as she took a seat at the kitchen table, reluctantly listening to her sister's telepathic message (and ultimately disregarding her need for cold water). Ruby, her younger sibling and hated "protecter", had been sending messages to Lydia's mind ever since the monotonic girl left home. Ruby Fatebane used to leave telepathic reports in her sister's head every day, but stopped once Lydia had been away from the castle where she formerly called 'home' for more than a year. Usually her messages were mocking in nature, and tended to drag on for minutes. They were a pain to listen to, and probably wouldn't have been so hard to take if Lydia possessed telepathy herself, and could respond back to her younger sister's displeasing words.

"How have you been, Lyds? I hope you haven't been causing too much trouble wherever you are. So listen: Father and have been questioning people from all over the place, and we finally know where you're hiding...well, not quite, but at least we know what country you're residing in. And you can guess that we were both...impressed by your cunning nature in regards to choosing your hiding place." Lydia rolled her eyes while Ruby chuckled for a moment. "You're a clever girl, Lyds; hiding in a warm-weather climate full of sunshine so that us Fatebanes wouldn't dare to try and find you... Anyway, we know you're either in California, or North Carolina. We'll be checking California first, so if you're there, don't worry! You still have plenty of time to start running...we'll catch up to you anyway. Some of these new members have enhanced senses of hearing and smelling...If you're in Carolina, well...unfortunately our much-anticipated family reunion will have to wait a little while, hmm? I do wish you had telepathy like me...I'm forgetting what your voice used to sound like. Anyway, I'll see you soon, Lyds."
"Love you older sister, darling..."

Lydia was inhaling deeply again, and she could feel the muscles in her face growing more tense. It was then the demon noticed the glass she had been holding earlier was not in her hand, but had been shattered into a million pieces and was now residing on the top of the table. She must have been so stiff, she broke the glass with her fingers as she heard Ruby speak. It was fine though; no glass had penetrated through her hand, and all the pieces landed on the table, nothing was on the floor. Suddenly, Lydia just felt the need to be outside. Forget water, maybe she just needed some fresh air. She'd clean the broken glass up later. The demon grabbed her hoodie, flipped up the hood, and exited through the door. When she looked forwards after closing the entrance to her home, bright lights in the distance caught her attention. Her already present scowl grew deeper as she inquired the source of the vibrant lights. What could possibly be going on at this time? She knew where they were coming from, and she had enough energy to teleport, so Lydia did so, closing her eyes in the process.

When she opened her eyes and the ebony-colored smoke surrounding her had disappeared, (smoke appeared around her every time she teleported,) Lydia found that she was in the middle of a busy street. She covered her ears once her hearing processed the booming sound of loud music. There were merchants everywhere, people dancing and smiling...it all made Lydia confused and annoyed. She shrugged and walked forward. Her head looked down towards the ground and her hands were caressed in her pockets. When she came to a stage featuring some sort of hippie-folk band playing their music much too enthusiastically, Lydia saw Noah Talon, a demon like her, smiling at the corny group as they performed. The girl had thought things were weird before, but now things were getting just plain creepy...

"The hell is that smug look on your face for?" For a split second, her face twitched into something of a smirk, and then she turned to face the band in a similar fashion as Noah. She looked at the group as she continued to speak, her hands still in her pockets. "I have no idea why everyone in this town is dancing and selling things and being happy all of a sudden, but whatever the reason, it's making me nervous."

Noah watched the musical duo as they entered an instrumental portion of their act, the guitarist picking notes as naturally as easily as someone else might walk down the street. Noah, a decent guitarist himself, watched with interest. It was only when he felt a shift in the surroundings that he looked up to find Lydia Fatebane coming towards him.

"The hell is that smug look on your face for?" She asked, her own face almost revealing its own smile. Noah shrugged, letting his face settle down into a more neutral appearance.
"I liked the music." He added, although that was all he felt he needed to explain. Noah wasn't much for talking and thankfully he felt that he didn't have to explain himself fully to Lydia. The other demon was much easier to get along with than many of the town's other residents. Lydia turned and joined him, her eyes glancing at the group in front of the two demons. "I have no idea why everyone in this town is dancing and selling things and being happy all of a sudden, but whatever the reason, it's making me nervous." She said, obviously the summer festival was not for her. Noah, once again, shrugged in response. He didn't know either why the festival caused such high spirits. Sure, the music was nice, but there were too many people around for Noah to be completely at ease. You would never see him dancing in the middle of the crowd or grinning with delight at some item being sold.

"Perhaps they just like the excuse to let loose?" He suggested. Noah himself had always avoided the festival in the past, or when he had been forced to attend he had always made sure to avoid the most popular streets. Now his ears could pick up the distant beats of club music and he was sure that if he rounded the corner in search of it, he would find groups of revellers dancing to the loud music. That people liked that kind of music and actually danced to it, in public was something that left Noah confused. "Or perhaps they just like to make a show of themselves." Noah added, picturing the mass of people who would be dancing to the club music.

"But what brings you out tonight?" Noah asked, turning his eyes towards Lydia. If it was rare to find Noah at the festival it would be even rarer to find Lydia. Together they must make quite a sight, after all neither demon is particularly sociable or known for their love of large crowds and people. The Summer Festival seems like the last place to find them, yet for some reason Noah was still there. Although once this band ended their set he doubted how long he would stay. Large crowds made him uncomfortable and the Summer Solstice Festival always guaranteed the largest.

While Noah was contemplating his dislike of large crowds and dancing enthusiasts, Skye was thriving off it. Technically she was meant to be searching for Mel, and any other friend that she might come across, but the Spring Faerie was finding it hard to stay focused on any one particular thing. With her soft toy bear, the prize from one of the stall games, she had set off through the crowds to find Mel. It had only taken five minutes before her eyes caught sight of some distraction or another which inevitably delayed her from her search. She had yet to actually make it out of the Witches' lane, all their goods were too interesting to bypass without a quick look. She passed the stall run by Jem's family, but on not seeing her friend there she didn't dally, although her eyes did catch on a number of items for sale. Thankfully the buzzing of her phone saved her from completely losing track of time and from spending all her money.

To: Skye
From: Mel
Maybe near the Ferris wheel. Stay tuned.

Turning on her heel she headed back the way she had come, towards the Ferris wheel. This was a dangerous route to come, back through all the tempting goodies that were on offer. Luckily she was able to show a bit more restraint since she had already inspected most of the items. However this route also took her back passed the games where she saw one of her friends struggling to conquer a bottle throwing game. Or rather she heard Jae angrily shouting at the stall operator before she saw him. It wasn't the same game that Skye had recently so successfully beaten, but it was similar. Skye could understand Jae's irritation. Skye paused and quickly sent Mel a reply message:

To: Mel
From: Skye
Keep me posted. I'm just helping a mutual friend beat the 'man'.

It was just like Skye to send a vague message like that. She could and was direct fairly often, but she also liked to play with words. It came from being a faerie, she couldn't tell lies so she liked to play with truths. Putting her phone away she skipped up beside Jae.
"Give it another go." Skye said, flashing Jae a friendly smile and giving her a wink when the man wasn't looking, "I'm sure this time you'll win a prize.' Skye patted the head of her own toy bear prize, everyone deserved to win a soft toy in a festival game at least once in their lives. Skye grinned, and if she had to help Jae do that by creating an illusion of the milk bottles disappearing, well she was more than happy too. That was the curious thing about Skye, she wasn't against breaking the rules or tricking others, but she absolutely detested liars. Many people would consider a lot of Skye's actions as similar to lying, after all she was known to deceive people by omitting truths and using illusions to confuse them. But Skye didn't see it in the same light. As long as she didn't outright lie to people she could live with herself, and quite happily.

After enjoying the festival, some danced all night, some went home [alone or with another], etc. A few witches stayed behind to make quick work of clean help, though they did receive help from some volunteers. Now, it is afternoon of the next day, 12pm. As it is summertime, few people have classes, unless they are taking summer courses of course, but some do have jobs, appointments, etc. Some are dealing with hangovers, headaches, and morning afters, while for others it is simply just another morning to wake up to. All of this depends, of course, on the individual character.

Common Places to Find People At This Time:
The Beach [Surfing, Tanning, Swimming, Beach Volleyball]
Downtown [Shops, Cafes, The Public Library]
The Park [Picnics, Frisbee, etc.]
