Introduction
BETWEEN US
A rivalry soon ensued between the father’s thus splitting their bond into two. They both had sons born on the same day but this still did nothing to reignite their friendship. Years later after the boys graduate high school, they created a bond with each other, in secrecy and not wanting to be like their parents at all. They made a pact to try and spend the entire Summer together, or at least attempt to, before heading off to their respective colleges or to the same college or whatever they intend to do with their lives. Can their friendship or whatever else blossoms between them last the entire Summer?
Their respective families are trying really hard to keep them apart. Let's see if they can stop seeing each other during these times.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 3 authors
In the parking deck, he had made his way to his vehicle and got inside, immediately closing his eyes and exhaling a few much-needed breaths. He did this repeatedly until he felt better then press-started his engine and pulled out of his assigned parking space and turned up the radio. The music blasted throughout the vehicle and he sang along with the lyrics. A red traffic light stopped him on his travels for a moment and he rested his back against his driver seat. His head bobbed to the music now while his fingers drummed onto his steering wheel but his ringtone disrupted the music and echoed throughout the car.
The number was strange and unusual and he did not want to answer it but felt like he should. Jayson breathed before he pressed a button on his radio that would answer the call. ❝Hello.❞ He said in a curious tone, the light changed green and he eased onward as the automatic message spoke. ❝You have a collect call from the county jail from Zachary Jensen, do you accept these charges? If yes, press one. If no, press two.❞ Jayson had shaken his head with a little smirk, pressing two, which ended the call. He had known that this day would come sooner or later but dang, why would he call him? To bail him out? To help him out any way that he knew how? Jayson did know some police officers and some lawyers that could help him out but of course, Jayson just had to see this for himself so, he did a really quick U-turn to drive back toward the police station.
Upon his entrance in the parking lot and such, he had seen a police officer that he knew, who had stopped him once their gazes met. ❝Hey, Jayson! What are you doing here?❞ The officer asked then leaned closer to him. ❝Your father is not back on drugs, is he?❞ Jayson rolled his eyes at that accusation and shook his head with a response. ❝No. Here to see a friend, uh, Zachary Jensen.❞ The police officer scoffed a bit. ❝Oh, him. Yeah, just go in, check in the front and someone will show you to his holding cell.❞ Jayson nodded his head and did not say anything further as he entered the police station now and did exactly what the officer told him to do.
Jayson was escorted down to the holding cells and his eyes were instantly on them, immediately looking for Zachary. And then, he had seen him and of course, Jayson smirked and wanted to say something really, really sarcastic but he remained silent. ❝Tsk, tsk. Why am I not surprised?❞ He had shaken his head then turned to the officer. ❝Let him rot down here. I’m sure he did something that’s deserving of him sitting there.❞ With that, they both disappeared out of sight and Jayson felt a bit regretful. Damn you, Zachary. Why do you do this to me? He thought just as he asked the officer that escorted him to the holding cell where the bail bond office was. The officer directed him in the direction of the office and Jayson went in there, making conversation with the male behind the desk and asked how much was the bond. $2,000. It was steep but Jayson pulled out his card for the bail bondsman to swipe and of course, it went through.
❝Tell our little jailer that I’ll be outside waiting for him.❞ The bail bondsman nodded his head as he got the papers processed and stood up, making his way to the officers and to holding cells to let Zachary Jensen free. Jayson cursed under his breath because of the amount that he had to pay for Zachary this time. Next time, Jayson was going to leave him there and not even think twice about it. Or would he? He was rather contemplative whenever it came to making decisions based on Zachary but for what reason? Deep down, he knew but would never express it openly. Not yet anyway.
Jayson had exited the police station now and walked back to his vehicle, where he sat down against the hood and folded his arms over his chest again. His eyes were rather focused on that door and could not wait for Zachary Jensen to make an appearance. Jayson would chirp his vehicle alarm whenever Zachary did come out of the police station and shake his head in disappointment. He’d give him a chance to explain himself, yes but for now, Jayson was going to enjoy the many punchlines and puns that he could think of.
❝Should’ve left you in there long enough so you could’ve dropped the soap.❞ Jayson said. He had unlocked his vehicle and pointed a direct thumb towards his vehicle. ❝Get in, jailbird.❞ He had spoken, hiding a smile and a laugh as he got inside of his own vehicle and press-started the engine.
❝So, what did you do?❞ He had asked before he pulled out of the parking lot, rather curious to hear his story. ❝And don’t lie to me, Hawk.❞ Oh, yeah. There it was, Zachary's gang name. Hawk was a name that Jayson used for when he was really upset with Zachary and within this moment, he was. So, Zachary should already know that this was going to be the longest ride of his life.
”Zach.” He glanced up at the familiar face. He was an older officer that worked on the force and knew his father very well. He was a good friend and handled all issues in regards to the Jensen family. ”Bobby?” The keys turned in the lock of the jail cell and Officer Bobby slipped inside, putting the handcuffs back on his wrists. ”You need to make your phone call.” Zachary stood up and followed the officer out into the main area. He sat beside the desk and waited to be handed the phone. It was only a matter of who to call. His parents were out on ‘business’. There were some dealings that needed to be handled in the next town over and interrupting it with a jail phone call is a fate worse than death. His older brother would have probably helped him, but his brother likes to cause a scene. At the end they would most likely end up sharing a jail cell. Zach didn’t remember anyone else's number. Well there was one number he could recite without hesitation. He told the officer the number. He could feel his heartbeat quicken and his hands get clammy. He wasn’t even sure this was a good idea, but it was his only option. The phone rang three times before it hung up. Zachary wasn’t sure what he was expecting, but he wasn’t expecting to be ignored.
”You can try again in a little while. We have others that need to make their phone calls first.” ”Yeah whatever.” Zachary nodded and stood up. He followed after Officer Bobby to his jail cell. Zach passed by a rival gang member and couldn’t stop the smirk from forming on his face. His knuckles might be bruised, but at least he didn’t come away with a black eye and possibly several bruised ribs. He sat back down in his cell and rested against the wall with his eyes closed as the cuffs were removed. The cell door locked behind the officer and Zach released a sigh. Time stopped moving again. He began mentally preparing himself to call his father the next time he had to call. He was not staying in this jail cell overnight. ❝Tsk, tsk. Why am I not surprised?❞ Zachary opened his eyes to the all too familiar voice. So he did come and didn’t fail to bring along the sarcasm. The officer and Jayson disappeared out of view.
Jayson wouldn’t really let him rot here, would he? It may not be good for his image to bail some low life out of jail but they were supposed to be closer than that. Zachary didn’t know how close though and was honestly afraid to figure that out. Why he had his number memorized and why he felt as though Jayson would get him out of jail without question was just something he was chalking up to friendship. It was all he could handle right now. ”Zachary Jensen. You made bail.” The cell door unlocked and he emerged from the cell. At the entrance he was given back his wallet, keys, and cellphone. ”Stay out of trouble, Zachary.” He flashed Officer Bobby a bright smile. ”You know me Bobby. I don’t go looking for trouble.” The officer shook his head and Zach took his leave. He would be back.
Zachary immediately found Jayson at his car and he smiled at him as he approached. ❝Should’ve left you in there long enough so you could’ve dropped the soap.❞ Zach only rolled his eyes in response to that. He wouldn’t have been in there long enough for that. The car door unlocked. ❝Get in, jailbird.❞ Jayson was really going to milk this for as long as he could. Zachary got into the passenger seat and buckled up. ”Thanks for coming to get me, JJ.” he stated as his friend climbed into the driver’s seat. The car started and he relaxed into the seat, turning his cellphone back on. ❝So, what did you do? And don’t lie to me, Hawk.❞
The smile that was on Zachary’s face vanished without a trace of it ever being there. He hated that name when it came from Jayson. It felt wrong and out of place. It was also an indicator of how annoyed Jayson was about the phone call from the jail. He made a mental note to not call him again and to just rot. That seemed better than having his friend mad at him. ”I got into a street fight.” He stated simply, rubbing his right hand over the bruises on his left knuckles. ”Someone called the police cause that dumbass was losing.” And because Zach only saw red and was nearly on his way to breaking the guys ribs the way he was kicking him. ”I’m fine, by the way. Thanks for asking.” The annoyance in his tone was uncalled for, but he couldn’t help himself.
Zach released a sigh and glanced over to Jayson as he drove. ”I really do appreciate you coming to get me Jayson. I didn’t have anyone else to call.” He admitted, looking away and out the window next to him. He stayed quiet for a moment and rested his head against the glass. ”I need to eat Jayson. I’m starving.” He stated, seemingly out of nowhere. Zach knew he wasn’t going to get off easy, but he wasn’t going to answer any other questions without some kind of meal in front of him.
He had finally pulled out of the parking lot, eyes bounced over to Zachary for a moment as he finally muttered what he did. A street fight? Jayson rolled his eyes as they came to a traffic stop light and he sighed, running his fingers through those platinum locks of his. When Zachary said that he was fine, his eyes shot over towards him. "Oh, I'm sorry, was I supposed to ask that after being the one setting you free from jail?" He had questioned then shook his hand towards the male that sat beside him. "Don't answer that." The light had turned green and the car behind them beeped their horn and Jayson retaliated with the same motion.
"Asshole." He had cursed under his breath then eyed Zachary, feeling sorry for him after he mentioned that he had no one else to call. Jayson was almost sure that it wasn't true but of course, he believed him anyway. Zachary was the only person that could make him feel regretful and that was a feeling that he did not hide well. Jayson continued to stare at him then reached over to nudge him. "Jail food is not quite as tasty in the movies, huh?" He had to take another jab at him, which made him laugh and nod his head. "Lucky for you, I am hungry, as well."
Jayson said as he pulled up to their favorite restaurant, Joey's, which was a sandwich and sub shop. The food was really enjoyable for just about everyone that indulged there. He had parked his vehicle then shut the engine off. "Raise your right hand." He had practically commanded then cleared his throat. "I solemnly swear to cause any fights as long as I am around Jayson." He laughed but then sighed softly, leaning against his seat a bit.
"You should really get out of the gang lifestyle." He knew that his words were falling on deaf ears but it was still worth a shot. Jayson had unlocked the car doors so that they both could get out and walk into the restaurant. They were seated by the hostess and given menus, which Jayson did not need because he knew what he was getting. His eyes looked up at Zachary with worry. He has always wanted the best for him but it seems like because of their feuding families, it was a struggle to be with him, around him and lead him down the right path.
Jayson had sighed to himself at the thought then eyed the waiter as he came over. "Give me a meatball sub with extra marinara sauce on the side and a sweet tea, please." He had said before the waiter could even give his proper greeting. Both of their eyes fell on Zachary now and Jayson smirked a little bit, waiting on him to order as he tapped his fingers on the table top.
Joey’s in Zachary’s opinion, which is the only one that mattered to him, was the best sandwich and sub shop to exist on this side of town. It had food for everyone and it tasted amazing. It was one of the few places that he could never get tired of eating at. The staff was friendly and it was one of the few restaurants that his family had no ties too. The boys lived two completely different lives, but in this place they were one in the same. They were just two friends eating and it was nice. The car came to a stop and Zach unclicked his seatbelt. Raise my hand?’ Reluctantly, he did as he was told, raising his right hand and then he laughed at the following statement. He was not going to swear that. Zachary does not make promises he cannot keep. If there was ever a time that he needed to fight and Jayson was around, he was going to fight. So instead Zach just smiled. ”Nice try, JJ.” He dropped his hand and completely ignored his ‘advice’ on leaving the his currently dangerous lifestyle. He was not going to have this discussion again.
Zachary took his seat across from Jayson when they got into the restaurant. He already knew what he wanted to order, but he quickly glanced over the menu just in case there was something new worth trying. Jayson ordered and Zach sat the menu down. He looked over to the waiter with a smile. ”Philly cheesesteak with a coke, but no ice.” He handed the menus over to the waiter. ”Lemme get a bag of ice for my hands too.” If he didn’t deal with that now then his knuckles would be swollen. The waiter nodded and left their table. Zach’s gaze returned to Jayson.
”You’re dressed nice. You must have come from work.” He stated, nonchalantly. ”Did I pull you away from something important or were you already hightailing it home?” Zach would feel bad if he had pulled him out of a meeting or something. He didn’t want his life to inconvenience him.
He said truthfully and had cleared his throat a bit then leaned backward in his seat a bit. "I did have a presentation today and had to accumulate the numbers before I left." Jayson stated but failed to mention the insult his sister threw at him afterward. He had sighed at the thought then shrugged his shoulders. His eyes beamed up to one of the televisions and his finger pointed at it. "I can't believe what's happening in the world today." He muttered with the shake of his head.
"But enough about me." Jayson said with the flick of his hand towards him. "Besides you getting into a street fight, locked up in jail and whatever else, how was your day?" Jayson asked, adding a little bit of sarcasm in there. It wouldn't be him if he didn't add a dash of sarcasm in there.
Just as he was waiting on Zach's reply, their food was being brought to them by their waiter. Everything was correct on his plate and the waiter asked if everything was straight. "Everything is good on my end." Jayson said with a thumbs up towards the waiter. He had taken a bite out of his sub and groaned at the flavor that ran through his mouth right now. He had dipped his sub into his extra marinara sauce before he took another bite and a swig of his sweet tea.
"How's your sub?" Jayson asked with his food resting on one side of his mouth. "You don't have to Apollo Creed anyone in here, do you?" He said as he was obviously having too much fun with this right about now. But of course, his jokes were really harmless than anything else and luckily for him, Zach knew it.
Jayson spoke of work like the words made sense to Zachary. He never understood any of that business-y stuff that Jayson spoke up, but he did actually have several follow up questions in regards to what the presentation was about and what numbers did he have to accumulate. Even though he was sure that the answers to those questions were probably more complicated than the simple explanation that he was given. Zach just likes hearing about Jayson’s relatively normal day in comparison to his own. They were so vastly different. But the conversation about Jayson didn’t last very long, in fact, he changed subjects to whatever was going on in the news back to Zach’s life. A new record. Jayson could only talk about his own life for about two minutes. ”Before all that, I was just working in the car shop.” His family owns a local carshop close to his home. It is a legitimate business, but they also clean their money with it. Zachary doesn’t deal with that part, he just helps fix cars and upcharge for it. ”You’d be proud. I was mostly good today.” Until that gang idiot wandered into their territory looking for trouble. A smile fell onto his face as the food and his bag of ice was finally brought to the table.
As always, the food looked amazing. ”We’re straight.” The waiter left them to eat. Zach placed the bag of ice over his right hand, it was the one that hurt the most and he was left-handed so he wanted to be able to eat. He picked up the one half of his cheesesteak and took a rather big bite. He hummed in delight. He did not realize how hungry he was until this moment. Zach sipped his coke and then took another bite of his sandwich. ”It’s great. I might have to order a second one though.” Zachary took another bite of the sandwich and sip of his coke.
He playfully rolled his eyes at his friend for his question. ”You make it sound like I went out to look for this fight, JJ.” He responded with a chuckle. Zach took a quick glance around the restaurant and then back at Jayson. ”And lucky for you, I don’t have to fight anyone in here.”[/b] Because if he did, he would have done so without question.
”How’s your sub? More tasteful than your fighting jokes, I hope.” Zachary couldn’t help himself with that comment. Jayson had it coming.
