Introduction

The world of Lumea has been blessed by the heavens themselves, say some. Others say that they were cursed to war over power for all eternity. But for whatever the reason, during a time far before laws, far beyond anyone's memories there were the first appearances of runes. At first they were the basic elements that people commonly viewed what created what was around them. The runes were the Rune of Life, Sun Rune, The Rune of Tears, The Vortex Rune, The Gaia Rune, The Rune of Storms, The Moon Rune, The Rune of Metal, The Rune of the Forest, and Finally the Rune of Soul. During this lawless time the rune bearers were initially shunned, feared for their unnatural powers. But these tribes reevaluated this prejudice and quickly coveted these people, hoping that with their power their tribe could expand and bring order to this world. But as tribes acquired rune bearers they started to face other rune bearers. Finally, by some fate, the bearer of the Rune of Life was born into the head of one of these tribes. Faced with the conflict of the other tribes he found an idea to guarantee victory for his clan. One night he went around and massacred every single person in his clan. Not one was left alive. Then using his rune he brought back all of his clan to life. Doing so he gave each one of them powers like his. And so the remainder of the runes were born. Now, this man's name has been lost to history. Some say the gods obliterated him for infringing onto their territory, others suggest that he broke up his rune and each one of the new runes contains a part of the rune of life. Others say that he died from exhaustion after reviving his clan. Over all we don't know, all we know is that the Rune of Life has never again appeared upon this world.

Yet that is history. In this time there are no nameless tribes but vast empires covering this world. These kingdoms are called Aur, Adeverat, Noapeta, Duminica, and Umane. War has broken out between Aur and Noapeta. Of why, the commoners do not question, but when history is written it will not be important. What will stand through history is the story that starts in the small town of Riman.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright!! That is the basic backstory for this RP. This RP revolves around characters called rune bearers who bear what look like tattoos on their body. The location of the rune varies from person to person but the shape is unique for that rune (It may be a symbol or whatever; I will leave it up to you.)

TECHNOLOGY
The Tech Level for this RP is in the late middle ages. Swords are still in use mainly and pikes are a standard foot soldier’s armament but cannons have been introduced. However cannons are still bulky and require several men to operate. Yet they are in good use for a long siege and for defense against a siege

RUNES
I mentioned a few of the runes in the first Paragraph but I will list all of them here to select from for your character. As Runes are taken, I will cross them off the list by bolding and italicizing them. I will also include a description of the abilities of the rune, but if you have an idea you want for a rune, PM me. ALSO, not all runes are included in this list for plot reasons. Finally characters are born with the runes and there is only one rune of one kind alive at one time but there may be no bearer of the rune alive at one time. Runes also lay their mark on the person at birth but their powers cannot be accessed before the person is a young adult as otherwise the sheer power of the rune would tear the body apart.

Rune of Soul – Healing and protects against other runes also senses other runes in others.
Sun Rune- Creation and manipulation of Fire
Rune of Tears- Manipulation of Water
Vortex Rune- Manipulation and creation of Wind
Gaia Rune- Manipulation of the Earth
Moon Rune- Creation and manipulation of Ice
Rune of the Forest- Manipulation of plants
Rune of Storms-Creation and manipulation of lightning
Rune of the Body- Grants superhuman strength
Inner Eye Rune- Telepathy, telekinesis, and other psychic abilities
Phantasm Rune- Creates Illusions. The larger and longer the illusion, the more energy used
Rune of Cleansing- Healing rune and removes ailments from the body
Rune of Dawn- Light Magic and minor healing
Rune of Twilight- Darkness Magic.
Rune of Echoes- Can distract opponents briefly (Except no distinction between allies and enemies) Change voice, throw voice
Rune of Mastery–Pick up abilities and techniques remarkably quickly and become at master level fast, but no other benefits
Rune of Destruction- Creates explosions. Takes time to set up but is extremely powerful
Rune of Vision- Scrying areas you’ve seen, improved vision, Better ranged attacks and dodging ranged attacks. User can see weak points and abnormalities very easily.
Black Hole Rune –Creates a field of high or low gravity that nearby people and objects are sucked into that affects allies and enemies in area. Can manipulate gravity on oneself at will though outside set field. Cannot create 0 gravity anywhere though. (Technically they can but then they would have no oxygen and die. Remember, as gravity decreases so does oxygen supply so lower gravities take much more energy.)
Mind Rune- With cartain verbal "ticks" the bearer can control the mind of other people for an action, such as a command, if the "tick" is used. To establish this rune it takes approximately three months, however. And it is harder to control more people obviously.

KINGDOMS
The Kingdoms have a precarious balance of falling alliances at this time. With the introduction of cannons there have been no large scale invasions since there is nothing to counter the cannons that are in the forts and castles. Star forts are being introduced at this time too making sieges even less possible. However there has been a large military buildup during this time due to the need for the increased manpower needed to take a single fort. All kingdoms also have colonies on a land across the water from their main capitols and kingdoms (Similar to the colonization of America except earlier) These colonies are mostly a patchwork of claims and it is still settling who really owns what. As of right now Aur controls most of the warm south with great farming land but is also inhabited by the most hostile natives. Adeverat controls most of the northeast that is filled with wet forests that are great for shipbuilding and have excellent quality lumber but has poor soil for most crops. Noapetea controls a portion of the southwest that is fairly average country with no real major benefits or downfalls. Duminica controls the largest colony in the west and Midwestern area of the country. It is inhabited by the most friendly natives and has great quantities of gold and has average soil, but this area frequently gets hit with monsoons that wash away crops and force inhabitants to miss their crop. Umaine controls a small patchwork of well developed cities that are located on the eastern coast that are excellent trade spots. However these cities do not take up much land compared to other kingdoms’ colonies and do not provide many resources themselves.

Each Kingdom has their own views on rune bearers but the cities themselves are quite varied in their opinions of them. Some devout followers of one religion revere the rune bearers as descendants of the gods; others view them as harbingers of destruction, and anything in between according to their beliefs and their values.

Characters
I don’t really have any problems here. Just don't make a Mary-Sue. Just follow the fields that are in the character submission section. List your rune under equipment for ease of me finding it. I would prefer that nobody puts that they can’t remember anything for a bio. So if you do I will PM you and please have a good reason for it. If you want any specific thing excluded from your character, just PM me about it.

RULES
1) I am not against romance but keep it PG-17 guys. IF you insist on spelling out all of the details, take it to PMs!
2) Make literate posts. I do not want to see one lined posts in this. You really are giving nobody else anything to work with if you do that!
3) ABSOLUTELY NO GOD MODDING!! This is an absolute MUST!! If you god mod this stops becoming fun. This includes making your character never get hurt. This is War. You will most likely be injured many times.
4) No excessive swearing. I don’t think your character will say “Rat Farts” When he gets captured, but at the same time I don’t want characters swearing every two words.
5) Make your character grow.
6) I am co-GMing this with Chari. What we say goes.

THANK YOU FOR READING THROUGH THIS AND ENJOY!!!!

Karan sat outside her house staring off in the distance. Her mother was out at the market right now so she really had nothing better to do she closed her eyes and sighed. Maybe she should go to Felber, the capital of Noapeta. Maybe she'd see her brother when she was there. She'd bet he'd be impressed with how much she had improved over the years. She would bet that she would be even better than him if they sparred. He must be getting soft because of city life after all.

Although that was the problem here. nothing ever happened people lived, people died, people were born people got married. There was nothing happening. She sighed once more and stood up, brushing her hair out of her face. Maybe she'd go out and train some more, she had her sword with her and she could get back before her mom right? Even if she didn't it wouldn't matter. She stood up and started to walk towards the hills outside the town. Then something caught her eye. A cloud of dust rising high into the sky. It was in the direction of the mine. Oh no! She raced up the nearest hill and gasped at the top. She looked out at the rolling hills and marching across the rolling hills a ways off. Shining silver. Not silver the metal, but silver of steel. Armor. Why would an army come here.

Aur.

She recalled that there had been a great stir around the town when Aur declared war on Neopeta. People worried if their lives would change at all. Well, no military troops came from Felber so they just proceeded as they always had. But now it was different. Aur was HERE!! They truly were invading! They were in Riman. Karen turned and raced down the hill. No need to warn everyone, they would know soon enough. She sprinted back to her house, not sure what else to do. After all, what are you supposed to do if you see an army coming at your hometown? She spun through the doorway and almost crashed into her mother.

"Mother..." She panted "Aur.. Aur is here! They are here... they are here... I... I think they collapsed the mine..."

Red splattered across the floor as her mother dropped the basket she was carrying and the tomatoes splattered against the war. Her mother's complexion paled. Frantically her mother responded "Why! Why do you think they collapsed the mine!! Why!?" All Karen could do was point toward the sky where the cloud of dust was still rising. Her mother shoved her aside as she stared in horror at the cloud of dust. She snapped to and grabbed Karen's shoulders. "I'll tell Rida, the inkeeper. Her husband is part of the town watch, they'll tell everyone to stay inside. Run to the farms outside the village. Tell them to board up because the army is coming." Karen could only nod. she turned and raced off, not even feeling the weight of the sword on her waist.

Her mother watched her run off then hurried in the opposite direction, not even looking back at the discarded basket and the growing stain of red on the floor of their house. Soon throuought the town there were men racing around. telling every house and every soul they could find on the streets to go home, or if they were visiting go to the inn. But soon even the inn was full. They soon began to tell those coming to go to the farms out of the town, and hurry!

Karen had raced all the way out of town and all the way to the outlying farms. She had not even stopped to catch her breath when she burst to the first farm that she knew. The home of her friend Lucas Cecil. She ran up to the door on autopilot, having made this journey several times and rammed her fist against the door. Then she reconsidered. She figured they'd forgive her for intruding with news like this so she reached in and opened the door and steppped inside.

"Hello!!" She cried out frantically.

Nathan had been on the road for sometime, the last town on his way into Noapeta, he had heard rumors of Aur claiming war on Noapeta, although Nathan thought little of it as he had heard they did this a lot but never really did much. Rumors about this would normally just fade, and grow back up after awhile. Nathan reached the peek of the hill as he finally seen the city Riman.

“Finally, I’ve reached Riman!” Nathan seemed to say out loud as he closed his eyes, taking in the nice fresh air that blew on him, he took march down the hill in towards the town. Nathan had sensed a rune bearer presence as he started to travel towards Riman, it had been faint for sometime but it seemed to grow stronger now.

“I still don’t know how to fully work this power, no this curse” Nathan quickly corrected himself, as he tightened his hand into a fist, biting his lip, trying to forget the flash backs that seemed to jump him. Shaking it off, he hadn’t noticed, that he was already inside the town. Giving a quick glance left and right quickly noticing an inn, Nathan approached the door stepping in. He simply took a seat, with a faint sigh from his travels, and the strain of memories he just fought, he slumped in his chair tugging at a waitress.

“Hey, can I get a drink here?” Nathan asked a little coldly it wasn’t meant to be, but his tone just seemed to send chills down the waitress’s spine. “Yes, of course just one moment.” The waitress said politely, giving a warm smile as she walked over to the bartender.

“Thanks…” Nathan was cut off, she was already leaving. Nathan went into a light sleep as he was trying to focus, he could sense the rune bearer somewhere close but he didn’t know where. “Two…? No… maybe only one… No… it has to be two…maybe even three?” Nathan seemed to struggle between his own thoughts; they were interrupted by the waitress placing down his cup. Nathan placed his hand over his cup; he went to take a sip, when a faint noise of an explosion filled his ears.

“Huh? What was that?” Nathan mumbled to no one really, his mouth was still cover by his cup, shrugging it off, he took a few more sips. Nathan’s relaxment seemed to end as people filled the inn; panic came over some of them. He could hear some of the conversations between people, Aur was attacking!

Luke heard Karen's entrance into the house from all the way down in his rather spartan bedroom. She had always been very energetic, but, for some reason, this kind of entrance didn't feel like it came from her boisterous personality. Alarmed, he rushed out to the house's entrance to find out what was the matter. On the way, he feel into step with his father.

His father was an older man, ruff and worn by the land he worked to live. His skin was deeply tanned, almost a leather, and his hair was almost all a shade of silver gray. His eyes were a shade of dark blue, hard, but yet somehow warm. But alarm was also now reflected in those eyes. As the ran, Luke asked, "Father, what could it possibly be?" His father started to say something, but stopped himself. "I wouldn't hazard a guess until I know more."

The pair looked to the door as they reached the entrance of the house. Karen looked completely worn out, like she had been running for quite a while with not a moment to take a rest. Luke was the first to blurt out, "What's wrong, Karen?"

Thomas was walking with his eyes closed. The road ahead was mostly strait and from what he saw from the hill he last took a look from, he would be in town, in just a hour. That was almost fifty minutes ago. Thomas kept walking until he felt the ground disappear beneath his feet. He caught himself as he opened his eyes. "Ah here is the town of Riman," said Thomas. He was still a minute's walk away. In his eyes he could see a young kid, maybe around fifteen years old. Thomas just kept his pace towards the town.

By the time Thomas made it into town he lost sight of the kid. The ground seemed to shake with a loud boom in the sky. Smoke could be seen filling the air as a woman ran by him in panic. She had a sword on her waist. Thomas reached out, but missed his grip. "Hey, wait," said Thomas. She just ran. Thomas shrugged it off as he turned to face the direction of the smoke. A hill blocked the view of what was on fire. Thomas got a stupid idea in his head that attracted him to see what was going on.

Thomas peeked over the hill to see an entire army approaching the town. He felt like fighting, but his legs said otherwise as he fled backwards. Thomas knocked on a nearby inn. Someone answered with a sigh. "We can't hold much more," said the woman. "What is one more to the group? If you want I will stand," said Thomas with a brave smile and stance. "Alright, just hurry!" rushed the woman as she pulled him in. Thomas just pushed his way through the crowded area to a suitable standing place. He ended up standing next to the kid from before.

Nathan started to freak out, “could they becoming for me? Or this dam curse?” he held tightly onto his cup, he started to shiver with fear. He didn’t know what to do; the Aur army was surely only a few minutes away from attacking the city! Nathan shook his fear off; he needed to think clearly if he was to achieve anything.

“Okay, come on! Think they couldn’t becoming for me, for all they know I’m dead.” Nathan tried to comfort himself with excuses. “But… what if they were coming for me? Could I and this dam curse be jeopardizing all these people’s lives? No! I couldn’t be this was Aur’s own selfish reasons.” Nathan seemed to be having a fight in his own head not even noticing the strong tugging inside of him, telling him a rune bearer was extremely close.

Nathan seemed to hide the struggles within him to a good extent, but it wasn’t like it was odd for people to be in a panic. He fit well with all the others, he placed his elbows on the table resting his head in his arms well he continued his fight within himself.

# Felber, 2010-02-13 23:34:37, as written by Crystal Blood
Adarius wandered the busy streets of the capital, not his cup of tea really. Not that he really liked tea or anything; it just so happened the expression had popped into his head as he contemplated his situation. That situation being that he was aimlessly wandering the streets of Felber. Adarius sighed, what to do what do to. The church he worked for, the Order of something or other it was called, had deployed him here as a missionary. With the war coming, Adarius figured, the church must have suspected Felber would need someone to speak at the funerals.

But, try as he might, Adarius could see no funerals insight that needed speakers. So, he kept walking. His empathic powers working over time as he tried to avoid large crowds. Crowds were probably Adarius's worst nightmares. They were loud, rough and noisy to any normal person, let alone a Rune Bearer with heightened sense. He could see it all. Every nervous twitch of the finger, the quick double take of the eyes, the labored breathing of drunks, and the muffled cries of scared children. Everything. This was all a result of his Inner Eye rune. His Empathic abilities were not just telepathic but also physical.

He really hated crowds. Every person radiated emotions, strong, fickle, overwhelming emotions. And God forbid someone bumped into Adarius, physical contact with a person was like absorbing every emotion they had felt in the past 24 hours into Adarius's own sub-conscious. That was never a pleasant experience when it happened accidently.

Empathy was really Adarius's strong suit, his telepathy was mediocre at best and his telekinesis was all but consistent. But Empathy, feeling and sensing the emotions of people around you. That he could do. But in a city like this, he'd do anything to be able to shut it off.

Adarius really hated cities. There had to be people out in the country, or the desert, or stranded on an island somewhere that need religious consoling? Right? Why a city?

While his inner mumbling continued, Adarius was relived to find the crowds thinning out as he made it to the edge of the bustling polis. He could already see in the distance the rolling valley beyond. There had to be a quaint town tucked into one of those folds in the land. That would be his destination. Funerals happened in little towns, maybe not quiet as often but still, when someone died, Adarius would be there to talk.

Barely had his foot passed the crude, "You are now Exiting City Limits" sign, when his mind was flooded with an intense empathic feeling. His hands flew to his temples trying to relive the pain throbbing in his head. Fear, mostly fear, but also anger, hate, and distress. All sorts of foul emotions. It was far away from here, but not by much. Something was going terribly wrong a few miles outside of Felber.

# Felber, 2010-02-14 09:46:23, as written by Hoo
"Love, love, lub, lub~"

Skipping carelessly in the streets with arms swinging widely to her sides, the smiling figure of Marcelyn exuberantly made her way through the capital town of Felber. Her pet followed her every step, looking interested in her movements. Today marked the very first day of her release into town, the only time in her entire life since her initiation into the Lux Aedes some 16 years ago. Never before had she seen so many people - and so close too! Til now, she could only watch these people from the window in her room - a large, arced construct in the highest room of the highest tower in the Lux Ades sanctum. It was even in sight now, with it's mighty stone spire set against the newly risen sun of the day.

Giggling excitedly, she surveyed her surroundings with a sense of satisfaction, taking in the sights as fully as she possibly could. Over there were those delightful little stone crosses, planted like flowers with precise positioning over a large garden. She had never seen them before, of course, and knew not what they were, but they looked so very pretty. And over there, on the other side of the street, was one of those funny, clumsy old men who laughed oh so very heartily, who always seemed to be carrying little jugs with them - like the little elves in storybooks, or merry singing dwarves! Oh, and they said the funniest things - although Marcelyn hardly understood most of their odd words.

"Oh, this is just like the towns in fairytales!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands together in jubilation. The town was just what she had imagined it to be, filled with bustling crowds and intriguing sights. As she walked, she made a point of closely examining each and every one of the houses she saw from her bedside window, often gaping in wonder as she poked her head into the windows. Thrice she had been shooed away from the owners of the many homes, and on one occasion, the guards given the task of escorting her made a bit of a spectacle trying to keep her away from one of the larger buildings - which smelt remarkably similar to that funny, wobbling little man she saw with the jug.

"F-Forgive me, Miss Hartbell." the armored knight stammered at the time, carefully prying the girl's ear away from the wall, positioned as if she could possibly hear through the gray stone barrier. "But, we ought to make haste..."

That much was true. After all, someone like Hartbell would not be permitted to leave her well protected chambers for something as trivial as exploring the town. She was supposed to make her way to Riman, where fighting was said to have taken place. Naturally, the intervention of a key figure in the Lux Aedes ranks would sufficiently raise support for their group, and so the leaders had not spared a moment to prompt Marcelyn's immediate deployment.

"Ah! Right!" she exclaimed, recalling the order and clapping her hands together once more. With that, she suddenly jogged off at a brisk pace, surprising her two guards briefly as they hurriedly caught up - reminding her, no less, that the town of Riman was in the other direction.

As she approached the correct side of town, where the crowds did not form and people were scarce, she was moderately surprised by the appearance of another person - A pony-tailed man with a large, golden cross, who stood just outside the town's limits. Before she could get a good look at him, however, his hands flashed to his head, holding it peculiarly. Curious, Marcelyn approached him tentatively, silently walking up from behind as quietly as possible. Her feet made not a sound as they tapped slowly and deliberately on the cobblestone path, and soon she had managed to place herself directly behind the odd figure, not uttering a word as she watched the preoccupied man. A few seconds passed as he held his head in his hands, obviously deep in concentration.

Then she hugged him. Tightly.

"Yay!" she yelled into his ear immediately, shouting loudly as her escorts ran up to her, attempting in vain to wrest her from her newly found target, who she apparently thought was in pain and was now attempting to cure purely with the power of hugging and repeated singing cries of "Love, love, love~"

Karen looked up at Luke's father spitting out words between breaths. "Aur.. is here... we need to board up now" by this time Karen was feeling quite light-headed from all of the sprinting she had just done. She leaned against the wall and slid toward the floor, eventually sitting on the floor next to the door, regaining her breath.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When the army of Aur arrived at the entrance to Riman they halted. In their path stood three town watchmen. A middle aged man that stood in the center, obviously the leader of the town watch, walked forward toward the army. "What do you need here? Can you not go around this town? The hills on either side are not that steep." Whne the man began to speak a grizzled old veteran came to the front of the collumn to talk to him. "Well, certainly if left to me, I would love to simply go around the town. But I've been ordered specifically to go to this town. We have recieved reports of rune-bearers living here. We are to search the town and take them into custody and send a detachment back to Aur with them." With this one of the town watchmen turned and went back into the town. The leader of the watch once again spoke. "Why here? This is an extremely small town and rune bearers would be highly unlikely to find here." The general of the army looked impassive and said in a cutting tone "Do you deny having rune bearers here? If you are false then I can assure you, your town will be destroyed." "...No we do not have any rune-bearers here." Was the reply of the watchman.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The inn was packed with people, far beyond the normal capacity it could hold. Suddenly the door opened and a man holding a pike stepped in. He was the town watchman that had left the discussion earlier. He tried to yell over the crowd to no avail. He tried to yell again with no result. Then finally he started banging his metal pike against anything he could find, which eventually calmed the crowd. He cleared his throat and said to the crowd "Jake's talkin' to em' right now. All Aur wants is to find the rune bearers. So, they will leave us alone!" With that the room erupted into celebration. Aur was not going to kill them mercilessly! They would live, there were no rune bearers living here so all of them would live! But in the crowd Karen's mother had fought her way near to the door. She had to go warn Karen, tell her to go to Felber. But as she approached the doorway she realized how futile it would be. an army would think it suspicious and follow a middle aged woman running out of the town. She had to find someone else to go. She scanned quickly and found two boys around Karen's age. She approached them and tried to speak above the crowd. "Excuse me, could you two do me a favor? Can you two go down to the Cecil farm for me and find my daughter, Karen? She's supposed to be telling all of the farms about the army, but I'd bet she'd be at the Cecil Farm. If not, Lucas will know where she is. Can you tell her what Aur is looking for and that Hank misses her. Can you two do that for me?"

Had Adarius mentioned he hated cities? They were filled with soldiers shouldering you, muggers sticking their grubby fingers in your pockets, and apparently little girls who hug you for no apparent reason. If absorbing a days worth of emotions in a split second wasn't upsetting enough normally, it was made about ten times worse by the fact that these new emotions were so completely bi-polar to the ones Adarius had just been sensing. Suddenly, the anguish and despair exploded into child like wonderment and joy. If the girl’s emotions weren't so strong, Adarius would have been extremely pissed off at the moment. But feeling any kind of annoyance or hatred was completely impossible when all your brain was filled with were the emotions of a six year old at the town fair.

To anyone watching the scene, Adarius had gone almost limp, jaw slightly slack, and cloudy eyed. He made no movement as the girl held him. But, as soon as it had happened, the effect wore off and Adarius regained control. With a jolt he pushed the girl back, a little rougher than intended. Adarius's breath was labored, he ended up sitting down on the ground with out a second thought, massaging with temples with is fingers. If he didn't get his new emotions under control he was either going to break down bawling or die hysterically laughing.

"I- I'm sorry for pushing you..." The words were slightly slurred and Adarius still had his eyes closed, not quite sure if he was himself again. "Please, don't touch me again." Ever!, he added in his mind. The strongest emotions had dissipated by now; he was able to analyze the remainder of them. Combined with his small amount of telepathy, Adarius had already put together the girl’s basic history. At least the last 24 hours worth.

Finally opening his eyes, Adarius looked at the girl and her guards. "Hartbell, yes? And..." he paused to think, "you're headed towards... Riman?" If anything maybe his weird power would frighten the girl away. But all he sensed from her was growing awe.

She was certainly strange, older than he had at first suspected. But strange non-the-less. She was hardly threatening, though what she had just done to him would have left any lesser man in a seizure. But Adarius dismissed it as purely accidental, and decided not to harbor any ill will to the girl. Whoever she was. But even as Adarius analyzed her and her emotions, he started to realize her presence had a strangely warm ad pure effect on him. The concentrated, good emotions she was radiating almost blocked out all the feelings of the city behind her, and the result was rather calming. Her excess happiness was rubbing off on Adarius, putting him in quite a better mood than he had been since his deployment. Adarius was quite suddenly aware that he did not mind her company at all. Though he still had a deep underlying suspicious about just where her powers originated

Nathan seemed to rest his hands down with a gasp of relief, “Okay, don’t worry all I have to do is show them I’m a citizen in Aur and I was only traveling.” Nathan seemed to give a faint smile to what he had thought up. It was quickly ended, one of the watchmen started to hit his pike off objects around the room. The watchmen began to speak “Jake's talkin to em right now. All Aur wants is to find the rune bearers. So, they will leave us alone!" The watchmen explained as everyone started to cheer.

Nathan’s heart just sunk, his eyes grew wide “Crap! Oh man what do I do now?” Nathan started to think drastically, “Walk out maybe get out of the town? No, that couldn’t work, how about? No…” Nathan had nothing, they’d find him, and surely kill him for having this curse.

Once again Nathan got interrupted in thought, this seemed to be happening a lot to him recently. A middle aged woman seemed to speak to him, and someone else near him. Nathan wasn’t sure, considering there were enough guys standing around him, to be any of them. Excuse me; could you two do me a favour? Can you two go down to the Cecil farm for me and find my daughter, Karen? She's supposed to be telling all of the farms about the army, but I'd bet she'd be at the Cecil Farm. If not, Lucas will know where she is. Can you tell her what Aur is looking for and that Hank misses her. Can you two do that for me?"

”Uh… yeah… sure!” Nathan was saved! He couldn’t believe it this was his chance to get out of the inn, and out of town. Getting up and didn’t really take notice who the other guy was, Nathan was still ignoring the throbbing ache in his stomach screeching to him a rune bearer was close.

“So where is this place and how can I get there?” Nathan asked almost hastily he needed to get out quickly, and didn’t have time to wait, so he seemed to push the question on her hoping for a quick respond.

Luke rushed over to Karen and dragged her up into a nearby chair. It was rare to see someone like her so thoroughly exhausted, and also this worried as well. Luke's father had disappeared, and Luke figured he should get Karen some water. He left the house to retrieve some water from the well, and by the time he returned his father was dragging a heavy-looking box into the front room. "Father, what's in the box?" Luke questioned, and his father threw open the box in response. Inside were a pair of swords, plain-scabbard-ed but finely crafted. "I never thought I would need these again," his father began, "But things never go as we expect. Take one, Luke. Even if you're inexperienced, it's better than being unarmed."

Luke was shocked. Why on earth would his father have such weapons? Luke had always thought his father had lived in Riman as a farmer, nothing more, nothing less. He had always pictured him having never left the village for anything. Luke had to ask. "Father, why do you have these?"

Luke's father sighed. "I was afraid this would come up. I'd sit, if I were you. This isn't all that short.

"I wasn't born here in Riman like you, your mother, or your brother. I was born in Umaine, way out in the west. I grew up on a farm there, but I always wanted to be something more. So I joined the army to become a warrior. As it turns out, I was quite skilled with a sword. Skilled enough for me to make it all the way to under-captain of the 3rd platoon. Up until then, all the combat I had experienced had been training. Then war broke out between Umaine and Noapeta. Then I learned the horror of war. I won't tell you any of the details, but after the last big battle, I deserted the army, and would up here. I meet your mother, and the rest is history."

If Luke hadn't been sitting down, he might have fallen down. He never would have guessed that his father had been a military man. He looked at the sword his father had given him, and realized it must have been from his time as a soldier. Of course, with all shock of learning his father's story, he had completely forgotten that Karen was there.

Thomas was shocked to hear what the man said. Although this gave him his chance! He could save the town and they would love him and give him all the attention in the world. Thomas' ego was interrupted by a woman asking him something about a farm and a girl. Thomas turned to the woman and smiled in a cool way.

"Why yes, I will help you," said Thomas holding his hand up to his heart. Inside he was scared. "How could such an awesome guy like me bring danger here?" spoke Thomas in his mind. The boy from before seemed to be all hyper now. He jumped up and ran for the door before he asking the woman the location of the farm. Thomas repeated the boys question. "Ya, I'm new here so I don't know my way there either," said Thomas.

"Whaaaao." Marcelyn gaped, absolutely glittering as Adarius displayed his extrasensory degree of perception. "Mh hmn!" she confirmed for his question, nodding jubilantly as she picked herself off the ground - she refused the assistance of her guards, insisting she do it herself. After all, that was how people did it in the story books. When she had risen to her feet, she peered back over her shoulder to check her precious, humongous ribbon. Unruffled, so all was good. She smiled in satisfaction as she offered him a hand up - just about ignoring his aversion to contact.

"You can call me Marcelyn though." she continued cheerfully as her pet circled the ground upon which she stood. She promptly plucked him from the ground, lifting the little feline up to Adarius' face for an introduction. "And this is Pixie. He's a cat." she said of the pet, which squirmed irately in the air, limbs flailing helplessly.

"Anyway," she said, once again reaching down to free Pixie from her grasp. "Yes! We're going to Riman to have an adventure!" she smiled brightly, setting her hands together in excitement - she did that often, or rather, only did it when she was happy. Which was often in itself. The two escorts - completely armored for battle - looked at her instinctively at this action, wondering if she had yet to realize that a fight was bound to happen. It appeared not to be so, however, as she continued rambling on about all of the talking wolves and woodland creatures she looked forward to meeting on the way.

"...and oxes with burning tails, and lonely chipmunks, and mysterious cats, and hardworking dogs, and-"

"Erm. Miss Hartbell? Riman?"

"Ah!" she exclaimed, turning her head quickly to face the guard. "Right! We're supposed to head to Riman!" she said, this time to the newly met traveler with some disappointment. Not counting the escorts, she had never met anyone outside of the walls of her home before, and already she would be departing.

"Aww... I have to go." she murmured, looking absolutely crestfallen. "Unless... Someone happens to accompany me...?" she continued, looking at Adarius hopefully.

Karen's mother smiled at the boy. Good, Karen would get the message she could get away to go to Felber. There was no way that Aur would attack there, right? And it was even better that this boy was a youth of Aur. If he stayed in the inn and people found out they might be suspicious about him. She smiled at the boy.

"Thank you. The Cecil farm is one of the first outside the village. It is a small farm that has it's farmhouse painted yellow. As you leave the town it will be on your right hand side."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Karen had allowed Luke to help her into the chair, but her lightheadedness was clearing now. She was listening to the conversation as Luke's father talked to him. She thought to herself that she really should get going to the other farms, but right now her legs would not move. Well, it wouldn't hurt to rest a short while. She would make a faster run at full strength too.

Just as Adarius had recovered and was beginning to relax in the girl's warm aura of emotions, he found himself being assaulted with a cat. Not by a cat, but with a cat. Its whiskers were mere inches from Adarius' face as the girl shoved it closer. Luckily animal emotions had no effect on Adarius, though by the cat's annoyed expression you would hardly have to be an Empath to know how it felt about being man-handled. The cat's giant face eventually retracted and was replaced by Marcelyn's, as she had hurriedly explained that was her name.

It, and by 'it' I mean the conversation, was all rather a blur, a blur punctuated by rainbows and fuzzy creatures. Adarius hardly got a word in edgewise, and wasn't evens sure if she heard him when he said his name was Adarius. After a few more tries he gave up, and just listened to her ramble, it gave him a moment to explore the emotions of the guards with her. They were fairly un-interesting, a mixture of boredom, resentment, and concern. Nothing you couldn't tell from their expressions. Bored from hearing Marcelyn's constant chatter, resentment for being forced to take on this mission, concern for the girl they were charged with protecting. Pretty standard for any guard. Adarius turned his attention back to the girl, she was still talking.

Righting himself so he could stand his full height, a non-too-impressive 5"7, he retrieved his staff from the ground next to him. Glancing back at the rolling hills, Adarius tried to focus in on the town again... nothing. Adarius was suddenly aware the girl had shut up. His mind rewound the last word she said and replayed them. There was definitely a part of him that wanted to stay in the radius of her pure emotional essence. It was such a change from the cold, hard emotions most people harbored. And he was heading out in that direction anyway... Arador realized he had already begun to nod yes. Why not? He supposed, and despite the fool of reasons 'not' to. He agreed to travel with Marcelyn.

"Please, just remember to not touch me. Particularly when I'm not looking."

Shunting her expression of regret faster than emotionally possible, Marcelyn's face broke out into a face stretching smile at her new companion, positively ebullient with the prospect of an ally. She straightened herself from her downfallen slump as he did, noticing his height. He was a couple of inches taller than she, but the difference wasn't all that great.

"Oh, alright then, Adarius" she giggled in response to his request. "Unless it's for a hug, right? Everyone likes hugs!"

She motioned with a hand to her escorts, both of them being hired through a reliable third party in the service of Lux Aedes. She wasn't very fond of having them so close, as she had long considered soldiers with generic armor not to be part of the main characters in a story, and had since began to disregard them as part of the background. She still became surprised whenever one was suddenly revealed to have a face, or for that matter, the ability to do anything instead of stand threateningly behind someone else. Or run somewhere.

Regardless, one of the armored pair handed over the common, old and decrepit spear hat Marcelyn had been trained on. She held it with it's point at the base, as usual, and with that the two guards stepped past the newly acquainted pair, scouting the way silently. On occasion, one would glance back to confirm his client's position, but aside from that they did no more. Marcelyn walked on after they had made some distance as well.

"Why don't you like being touched though?" she wondered aloud, tilting her head in curiosity - as if doing so would somehow improve her skill at deduction. As she did, she gave Arador a quick glance over, examining his attire with some interest. His mannerism aside, there was also his weapon that attracted her attention. It's shape matched the ornate symbol on his armband, and after some time of wondering, she was finally aware as to how she recognized it - those stone flowers she saw planted in the capital had an identical form. She did not mention it, however, as her eyes caught a peculiar marking on his neck.

She did not recognize this symbol at all -it was circular, from what she could tell, but other features were not to her notice. It did intrigue her, nevertheless, and she kept her gaze lingering upon it with utmost curiosity.

While Luke was stunned into silence, Luke's father turned to Karen. "I assume you were going to run around and tell all the other farms about the invasion, right? You stay here with Luke, and I'll take care of the telling." And with that, Luke's father was out the door.

Luke looked over at Karen, realizing that he didn't know anything about the invasion quite yet. Although Luke knew that war was common, he had never stopped to consider this small village would ever get wrapped up in it. Usually, the armies just go straight for each others' necks, not stopping to occupy every little town along the way. Even the mines in this town weren't really important in the grand scheme of things. It would have made more sense for them to go for a port city or any other major center of trade. Or at least, that's what his brother had said.

Luke, worried about the town, asked, "Hey, Karen, the army didn't actually do anything, did they?"

Adarius was all too glad to start heading away from the city. He could sense the bitterness of the people fading with every step; soon it would just be Marcelyn and himself traveling the countryside. And of course the two guards, but their emotions were so bland they hardly registered on the emotional spectrum. While contemplating all this, Adarius vaguely wondered when the last time his emotions had actually been his own. Not constantly influenced by a second party. It was sad, but he really couldn't recall at time. On the bright side, Marcelyn was probably the best traveling companion he'd had in a while.

Adarius was, in an out of body experience way, completely aware that those kind of optimistic thoughts were a result of Marcelyn's radiation. But he wasn't going to complain. Again, not that he really had the negative thoughts to complain with due to her company, but if he had, he still wouldn't have. This particular stream of consciousness was broken when the girl next to him began to speak. Her words ended up being a question, one which Adarius was almost quick to answer. But as the words started to form, he caught himself; the origin of his powers was not something he readily revealed. Rubbing his temples again Adarius concentrated, he couldn't start thinking like her. If he did, Marcelyn would know his life story better than he did by the end of this trip. Trying to shrug off her influence, Adarius debated how to answer that question best. It took him quite a while to come up with a good answer, which ended up being the most obvious one, that of course being the truth. Rubbing the back of his neck absent mindedly, his fingers touching tattoo, he had been probing Macrelyn's mind, there was really no reason not to tell her. Particularly since Adarius had his own suspicions about her. So, he began.

"I'm what most people call an Empath. I can... sense people's emotions. Through facial expressions and demeanor, but also psychically. People tend to radiate their excess emotions, I can feel that radiation. And when someone touches me that direct contact acts like a channel from their emotions to mine. So, when you grabbed me earlier, I experienced every emotion you had this past day. Just really fast. Between that and a limited amount of telepathy, I basically know your life story already." Finishing that statement, Adarius carefully watched her reaction. This was the moment that would either confirm or deny his inclination that she too was a Rune Bearer. So far, that had been the only part o her life that remained cloudy to him. If she was in fact a Rune Bearer, Adarius would be extremely interested in just what her powers were. It was hard to imagine that they were anything destructive...

Thomas pushed his way through the crowd of the inn, until he was able to push out the door. "Lets get going!" said Thomas over the crowd to Nathan. He walked down the road in a quick pace not checking to see if Nathan was with him. He continued the pace, until he saw where the road seemed to change. "So, what is your name?" asked Thomas out of curiosity as he searched with his eyes for the farm.

Thomas started to walk forwards, as he spotted a house behind some trees. "I think I see it," said Thomas. As the yellow farmhouse came into view, Thomas seen a man run from the house. "He looks like he's in a hurry," said Thomas, "Oh well lets hurry." He picked up his pace and ran for the house. Thomas slightly knocked on the door and entered the house.

"Are you Karen?" asked Thomas. He was very confused by now, why did her mother need to warn her of what Aur said? Thomas ran the possibility of her being a rune bearer, but it might just be that she has nothing to worry. "Your mother told us to come and tell you that Aur is looking only for rune bearers. They plan to take them back to Aur for, um, I for got that part, but she also said Hank misses you," said Thomas still half in thought.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

OHMAIGOD!!!

The new Runes has EXPLODED!!!

I have been reserving the runes you had in your previous characters for you, in case you want to use them again, or if you have a different idea for the same rune. But it has been an absolutely massive explosion.

To this point there are only 4 runes left unclaimed not counting the ones I have reserved for you guys right now within 14 hours of it being posted. So it looks like we are in for quite a ride.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

ALRIGHT

The reboot is up, retitled Fate of the Runes

PMs to come soon, and you guys will get priority of runes, so come and gobble them up.

Enjoy!!!

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Sounds great, I will be looking forward to it :P

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Yeah, sorry about not starting this. I have been forsaking the wiki idea for a while, and have been digging up my old ideas for this recently. I am thinking about starting this again soon...

AND THIS TIME I ACTUALLY MEAN IT

I know this is kinda the third time I have cried wolf, but I have always gotten caught up in other things. But right now, I really have nothing in particular to get caught in. Work is fine, midterms are over and I am feeling good and only in one live RP right now.

So I am going over my old templates for this and going over my old files, and trying to find everything about it as well as think up new ideas for the flow of the RP. 'Cause I know a few points I want to happen, but the things in between are really open, which is good in my opinion, but I am working on making it to where the RPer will have a lot more control of the story.

So I will send out PMs when this is up, which I would say expect after this week since I don't want to start it right before a weekend that I am going to be away from a laptop, which I will be for the weekend of the 5th.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Been re-reading the old OOC posts and almost cried thinking of the starting we had. Great memories <3 Hope we can get this up and going again soon :D Really in the mood to RP right now, especially with my games getting boring. Only thing bound to hold me down is Skyrim in 2 weeks, but it won't suck up all of my time since its Single Player :P

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Alright! Don't think I have forgotten about this! I just have decided to make a Wiki (Gasp something professional) for this RP. This world is sooo fleshed out in my head, so it is a resource that can give you ideas, or be completely worthless. At any rate, it will give you an idea of the world of Lumea!

So it WILL be a while longer because this is going to be a LOT of information here. I will be sure to PM all of y'alls when it is ready!

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Hey me and Torm are going to have our test fight soon :3 If you guys want to start up again I will be around almost everyday for a bit and afterwards I will be online all the time, but only checking when I check my mangas (Every few hours)

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

I subscribe all my topics :3, but yeah I''m still around so if you want to start it back up, now is a good time :D

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

If this does start up again, I'll continue as the same character. If you're serious, you might want to try emailing everyone if possible. I just happened to come here looking for rp and looked to see if there was any activity here.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Sounds good and if we do, I would like to continue being my original character.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Cool! I have actually been toying with the idea of reviving this one and giving new people a chance to join. So if you have come back, I probably will! I will post here when I do or if I decide not to.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Well I'm back, I have a tendency to join and forget about the site because of my obsession with online gaming. (Also hinders my novel writing -_-) BUT I am back to join another roleplay and saw this. I know it has been a very long while, but I may as well join back too, because I really found this roleplay to be fun and amazing.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

I know that I am in.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Hey guys!

I know most of you are thinking "lol wut? Why is our normally sane Lightning Flash posting in this dead OOC? Has he finally lost it?" No I haven't. I have been thinking, and I am going to revive this RP soon, except I am going to start near where we left off, get us into the plot much more quickly.

So if you think this is a fabulous idea, then POST HERE! Because if you post here I will reserve your rune of choice for you. So first pick goes to the vets.

Hope you all get excited!

[OOC] New Here :)

I haven't roleplayed in two years, and got this sudden urge to lose myself in it again and found this site. Let me know if the character I created goes against any storylines or if you have any suggestions at all. You can call me Loseth or Adam, doesn't matter to me. I work nights, but am on usually late at night :D. Send me a PM if you do have suggestions or concerns. Looking forward to learning more about what's going on, assuming I get accepted lol.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

I'm still around and will probably post this weekend.

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

Yeah, this kinda died.

I have finals next week so after that I will send a mass PM out to the people that were involved at the point where the story stalled so we can try to start it up again. As you have posted here I am sure I at least have you going forward and Chari and Snake have also expressed interest in going on so it will continue. So I will leave it as it is until after next week. Then we will continue with the story!

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

*Listens to crickets.*

Re: [OOC] Runes of Fate

... what have I missed... I was without internet for a while so... yeah sorry for just dropping off the face of the Earth like that.
