Central City, a few blocks away from the bakery
The helicopter stopped to hover over a dimly-lit alley. The two passengers unstrapped themselves from their seats and grabbed parachutes.
"Any guesses as to why those guys were in town, Dextetta?" asked her companion as he prepared to jump from the now open door.
"Perhaps their objective is to locate something. The young Fox may have simply been in their way. Were they instructed to attack, they would have done much more damage, not just to the boy, but to the city as well." She jumped out after her escort, deploying her parachute as she dropped.
Upon landing, Dextetta began walking down the alley, peeking into every nook and cranny for signs of the robots. Her escort followed close behind her, keeping an equally sharp eye out for the robotic duo. "You know," said the officer, attempting to engage in a little casual conversation with his companion, "those two sort of remind me of members of that one electronica band. I believe it's called Daft Punk."
"I am not familiar with this Daft Punk," the scarlet-furred android replied.
"They're pretty popular from what I understand. I'm not a big fan of electronica though. I'm more of a country person."
Dextetta blinked with a slight nod, a sign that she had absorbed the information that had just been given to her. "Understood," she stated a bit unemotionally.
The duo continued down the alley, neither one catching a glimpse of the robots. The officer sighed. "They're not here it seems. Maybe they got out of the city. We don't have any clues beyond the tape from that bakery." The frustration in the man's voice was evident. "Fast as those robots moved, they're probably out of the city by now."
"Perhaps we should ask the young fox if he knows anything," suggested Dextetta.
"Good idea, Dextetta, but where do we find the kid?" asked the impatient officer.
"Our best option is the bakery where the footage was taken," the android responded, turning around and walking back toward the main road. The officer followed her as she turned the corner and headed down the sidewalk, stopping every so often to look at the buildings. Eventually, the duo reached the their destination, where they were greeted by police. Neither one knew why the cops were there. There was a slim chance that they were called regarding a second visit by the robots, but it was more likely to be something related to the city's local criminal element. Still, Dextetta felt it would be a good idea to ask one of the cops what was happening.
The android walked up to one of the cars and gently tapped the driver's-side window, attempting to get the attention of the chubby, dark-skinned cop sitting in the driver's seat.
The cop pressed a button on the door, lowering the driver's side window so that he could speak with the girl. "Yes, ma'am?"
"Forgive me for interfering with your mission, but are you here regarding what appeared to be two men dressed as robots?"
"Naw," the cop replied, taking a drink of a soda. "There's a robber on the loose, and we believe he came in here. I never heard of no guys dressed like robots."
Dextetta nodded. "Understood. That is all I needed to know. Thank you for your cooperation, sir." She turned and walked away from the car, returning to her escort's side.
"Anything?" inquired the officer as his companion rejoined him.
Dextetta shook her head. "They are not here about the robots. Still, the Fox may be able to assist us."
The officer nodded. "Let's go inside then." He turned and headed toward the bakery door and opened it Dextetta took the opportunity to go into the bakery through the open door. Her companion waited until she was inside, the went in himself, allowing the door to close behind him. Dextetta looked around, searching for a face that matched the one getting trampled in the surveillance footage. She eventually found the Fox, who was enjoying donuts with a lilac-furred Cat (Blaze).
