"..." Miraze stared, seriously at a loss. Alright, so maybe these two ... were not what she had thought them to be, It made her wonder at times, how messed up this world was. Here were two otherwise semi-decent people, and they were generally looked down upon ( as testified by Vlad ) and people like the ones she used to know, at the very top with their plastic smiles and stab-in-the-back policies. This was exactly why she had run away, so she wouldn't become a bundle of lies like them.

"Erm ... thanks?" she asked, trailing uncertainly off. People didn't usually offer to help her unless they wanted something, and yet it was clear that these two boys had nothing to gain from them. It was a little .. heart-warming, really.

Except if they just think getting you two to trust them would make killing you all the more fun. Observer pointed out, and Miraze had to admit that she had a point, even though by what she could tell, Vlad was actually being honest. And Miraze was a more or less good judge of character, if she said so herself.

You did say so yourself. the Voice was getting annoying, so Miraze shunned it to the back of her head.

Klaus had killed the people bullying him, huh ? She gave him a contemplative glance. Her conceptions about morality and what was right and wrong was different than normal - had been different ever since she was five years old - and while she did think killing your tormentors was rather drastic, she couldn't really judge unless she knew the circumstances, and even then, she could sort of understand why both Vlad and Klaus had turned out like this. Hell, they could have turned out even worse.

She decided to settle on smiling a more-or-less genuine smile - a rarity for her around strangers - at them. "I can understand ... I spent a few years on the streets myself .... and her later on, of course." she nodded towards Aurelie, surprised as Vlad told her their own reason ( 'Or maybe just what he wants us to think of as his reason ...' Observer spoke up helpfully. 'Stop confusing me already ... ' Miraze sighed mentally. ).

"Huh ... that's surprisingly ... simple." she chewed on her bottom lip. "Well, not that I'm complaining. It just means two opponents less, I suppose, should we really decide on taking sides." What she had really wanted to say was that it was surprisingly close to her own reason, but she didn't. "And its a lot nicer than 'taking over the world', too. I'm Miraze." she added, since they had told her their real names, she supposed she should return the courtesy. She made a point to leave out Aurelie's name, it was her own decision whether she wanted to give them her name or not, Miraze had made a point of not including Aurelie's name with hers wherever they went, figuring it would raise less questions if she finally broke away from the other girl, or vice versa.

"Zador pisses you off? Well, that's one thing we have in common," Aurelie said drily. "Not that that's what you said before. Back then you were all, 'Hey, you do this yourself? Niiiiiiiiice,' and 'Hey, you know my buddy Klaus? He's probably even more evil than me.' In fact, I got the impression that the two of you were doing that guy thing where you argue over who has the bigger dick. Figuratively speaking, of course." She smirked at Vlad.

"You see," she went on, "it seems to me that you just say whatever you think will make you seem most impressive. In front of Zador you're all like 'I'm a badass cold killer, I'm so cool,' but when there's girls around you're like 'I'm like a gallant knight deep down - yeah - and I'm down with not being a creepy villain. Everything else is all on account of my dark and troubled past.' Now either you're playing everybody, mister, and just saying what you think they want to hear - which I'm not going to rule out - or you're actually that desperate to have people admire you that you end up being a bit schizo. Which is the answer I'm tending towards. I don't know if you realise it, but bragging non-stop about how badass you are gives a certain impression? You know, kind of like you're a little insecure? I know you have to talk trash when you're in a gang to get respect, but seriously, it gets old. We know you're dangerous. If you get the jump on us, we're dead." A faint smile curved her lips as she looked Vlad up and down. "If we got the jump on you, of course, that might be another matter."

Aurelie felt sure that Miraze would probably be getting annoyed with her. Whilst Aurelie fully believed that what she said was true - that in a conflict where the two of them got a chance to avoid vaporisation, they might well win - it was also true that she was hardly being conciliatory. She knew, as Miraze did, that if Vlad attacked them now she'd be disintegrated before she had a chance to act - and that both of them had already near-exhausted their powers. Still, she felt that she owed him the truth... and she was banking on the fact that he probably wouldn't kill them right now, given his whole 'I'm a decent guy' spiel that he'd been keeping up. And backing down would just signal weakness. So it was that what she said next wasn't actually motivated by fear.

"But before you go deciding I'm looking down on you? Don't. I just have zero tolerance for bullshit. And you sure as hell were bullshitting someone." Aurelie narrowed her eyes at Vlad. "Maybe - if and when I get a better handle on you - I'll reconsider."

Vlad's eyes widened. Then he chuckled, then laughed, and cackled, while clapping. "Oh god. Well done, girly. I admit, I see why you would say that. Thing is though, dear, that I never considered myself a knight. I'm more of a heroic sociopath. Hell, unless you have a strange fantasy, I won't seem like your prince charming, either. Now, tell me. If I was bullshitting you, why did I keep Satosha alive? Yeah. But, in a way, I suppose you're right. The whole 'I'm better than you' thing, is how all guys act. Especially in this day and age, in this town, where you have to go all abracadabra on someone to stay alive. The point is, I may be a decent guy, but why I was taunting Zador is because that's how I was raised. If you think I'm a creepy mage, just wait until you meet my brother.

And second, I don't go flaunting my dark and brooding past to get girls. Believe me, if I did, I would also not be as forward as I am, now. Truth is, I haven't dated someone in like, two years. I didn't come over here to get some ass. I came over here to say hello. While, yes, granted, you two are pretty, I'm not gonna stoop done to the level that sparkly, pale prick in that crappy romance novel is on. If I wanted to impress you, I would've done something much more flashy." He chuckled.

Klaus stepped between them. "Stop. Both of you." He growled. "...Wha?" Vlad asked, surprised. "Vladimir, she has a valid point. I believe that you are insecure. And, even if you did do something dangerous, it would not be the best idea to make it as public, unless asked to." He said, and then he turned to Aurelie. "You, fraulein, are acting equally as childish. Someone, it doesn't matter if they are male or female, black mage, white mage, or mage at all took some time out of their day to greet you. And, to thank them, you ask them many different questions, as if you assumed that they would kill you on the spot. Like you have heard the other ones do. Excuse me, but that is as bad as quickly changing your act to impress different people. If you didn't go by the stereotype all the time, perhaps you wouldn't be so ridiculously skeptic. When someone offers their help, you should consider it, not put them down and act like you are better then them, the exact same thing you accused Vladimir of doing, when you, yourself, are guilty of it as well. Quite frankly, I find the most mature one here, to be your friend, fraulein. Your partner." Klaus continued, arms crossed.

"Well then." Vlad said after a short silence. "I suppose he's right."

Aurelie snorted. "I'm sorry, but 'I think you're insecure, ner ner' just isn't going to wash here, 'cause I'm not. If you're telling me it's 'insecure' not to trust him - or you - you're sorely mistaken. I sincerely doubt that Miraze trusts you either." Quite frankly, Aurelie was annoyed by the attempt to 'divide and conquer' their partnership, as she saw it. "It's not, uh... 'childish' to not trust a couple of self-confessed killers. And, as for 'putting people down'... didn't you hear the whole 'don't go deciding I'm looking down on you' part? I guess not, 'cause that would invalidate your argument, wouldn't it?"

Turning to speak to Vlad, she put her hands on her hips. "I'm not turning down your offer of help. I just don't trust you yet." Her mouth flicked into another smile. "Either you were bullshitting about being a casual killer in front of Zador... or you're bullshitting us and you had some reason for letting Satosha live. Possibly, so you could brag about it. Either way, bullshit happened, and bullshit is not conducive to trust. We're still talking, aren't we?" She sighed, and folded her arms again. "That's about all the trust you're getting. Just yet."

Vlad raised an eyebrow. "I let Satosha live because I admire the damn guy. It would be a waste to kill him. And the most important reason. Standards. My standards. Because he did not do anything wrong. I didn't kill him." Vlad retorted. He looked over to his partner, who had his arms crossed, staring Aurelie down.

"You have a valid point about our reputation, though. And this, is in fact, coming from the serial killer. And, granted, you are also correct about some of the things my partner said. However, you should know that he has a dark sense of humor, and has, in fact, stayed true to his moral code." Klaus said.

"Klaus, I appreciate your effort to back me up. But, obviously, they don't trust us." Vlad said, turning. "So, we best be on our way. Thanks for listening, Miraze and Girl Who Forgot to Introduce Herself." He teased Aurelie. "Oh, and one more thing." He said, taking a pen and paper out of his pocket, writing on it, and giving it to Aurelie, with a sly grin. "This is where I live. Klaus'll probably hang out here, too. When you get a chance, stop by and keep me company." He chuckled. "Auf weidersehen." Klaus said, as they both disappeared in a black cloud of magical smoke.

As the two disappeared, a voice - disturbingly similar to Aurelie's - spoke up in her mind, saying 'Showy.' and sounding distinctly pouty. In the light of recent events, Miraze wouldn't be surprised if that was Aurelie's reaction.
She turned to look at Aurelie, almost laughing at the other girl's expression, before catching her expectant eyes.

"What? I'm not going to say anything, You said what you felt, that's a quality I have to admire." Miraze shrugged. Everyone was entitled to their own reactions, that was what made them themselves, right? She wouldn't begrudge Aurelie little things like this. "Honest as always, though not exactly prudent." she sighed. " And the two of you ... really, like high school kids ... though, I guess we all are high school kids, if you leave out the part where the two of us stopped attending ages ago. Anyway, that was a good show." she trailed off, unable to keep the slight amusement off her voice.

"That wasn't like high-school kids," Aurelie said, speaking as patiently as she could manage. "Miraze, I can't believe you fell for that." She shook her head. "Go back a few steps - " she held up a hand " - please. Eyepatch-guy says, 'you're skeptical of what my partner's saying, and you're critical of what we're saying. That's the same as immature'. That's not immature, Miraze. Not when the skepticism is so blatantly justified. Then he drops the bombshell. 'Your friend is the mature one.'"

Aurelie stared at Miraze. "It's human nature to fall in line with a compliment. Human nature to avoid an implied criticism. Manipulation, then and there. Consciously or not, he was hoping that you would feel more encouraged to soften even further, and to feel you were being more mature than me for doing that. Equally that I would feel 'immature' for remaining skeptical, and use the negative emotional impact to shame me into going along with him. When you say 'you two were like high-school kids', you've been impressed with exactly the disdain that he was hoping you to make you feel. The alternative would involve relinquishing the compliment, and the pleasure of being declared 'mature' that goes with it."

Aurelie sighed, peering carefully up and down the road to check that there was no one following them, and that no one had arrived - yet - to check out the crash. "Except it wasn't a real compliment, Miraze. I'm not saying you're not mature, or even that you're not more mature than I am sometimes. Only that when he said it, it wasn't because you'd displayed more maturity than I. Just more willingness to accept what he was saying."

She sighed over the crumpled bonnet and the damage done to the vehicle. "It was risky arguing with him, but I wasn't going to lie and accept his words without reason. He wasn't going to kill us there and then, not when he thought he could get us to like him. If he'd had any sense at all he'd have known full well that we'd need more than a few words to stop being wary."

Aurelie looked up from the hire car. "We've seen his criminal record, Miraze. He says he has standards when it comes to killing. I can't prove that one way or the other...but I'm damn sure he doesn't have any standards when it comes to assault, robbery and damages. He said it himself. He takes what he wants, when he wants. Without caring if his victims 'deserve' it or not."

Her mouth curved up in a sudden smile. "Took off fast when I remained unimpressed, didn't he?" She looked straight at Miraze. "And I'd just decided to challenge him to a sparring match, too. On the understanding that there'd be no disintegrating, obviously." She grinned.

Miraze stared at Aurelie before starting to laugh. "Really, Aurelie? You thought I didn't notice the subtle 'Divide and Rule' that went in there? I wasn't actually saying your reaction was immature, but merely the way you phrased it was hilarious. Besides, why would I think high school kids are immature? I'm one myself, right?" she grinned. "And I have never thought of you as immature either, or even myself as more mature. But I do believe them, you know why? Its because of one of the reasons you dislike them. They - or at least Vlad - has a big ego. Those with big egos tend to live up to their promises, because they are afraid to fail to deliver, they need to keep playing up to their 'code' or 'standards'. If he promised us he won't attack us, chances are that with his convoluted sense of 'honour', he won't resort to it unless the situation is drastic. That's also the exact reason I gave him my name, to show him I trust them. They probably won't betray someone's 'trust', it would be 'beneath' them to do so."

She stretched, still smiling. "But anyway, my job was done by the time you started, and it was pretty funny to hear you bash them to dust. Call me sadistic, but it was nice to see someone saying the things I couldn't say outright. At least, not yet, in this state. Also, if you had challenged him to a sparring match, even with no disintegration allowed, we would still suffer more damage than we can afford, even if we managed to win, which, at our current state, would require a more than a little effort. Its better to hold off for a more opportune time, and its not like they could find us out, anyway, I entered us under a different name after that encounter, and took care of Mr. Davis." she finished - the man who rented them their apartment had been surprisingly susceptible to the illusion, weak-willed and unresisting, which was why Miraze hadn't needed Aurelie's help for that.

"Now how do we explain this?" she asked, pouting a little as she looked down at the car. "Looks like I'll need to break into my hair dye money again." She had actually liked the colour purple when she first dyed it this colour years ago on a whim, partly because she was curious and partly so people were sufficiently freaked out at her strange hair colour and left her alone in peace, and even though now she almost always wore some kind of a hood or cap that almost - if not fully - covered it, it had grown natural to her, and she saved off a little money for the next time she would need to dye it every time she went out on a 'job'. "... maybe we should take jobs or something." she muttered, the idea not appealing to her in the least. With her education, the only job she could get would be a waitress, or something equally horrendous, where she would be expected to be in public constantly. And while Miraze could manage that, the thought alone made her want to gag.

Aurelie grinned at Miraze, immensely relieved. "You meant the style of language then." She trusted Miraze, and if Miraze said she wasn't insinuating immaturity, then she would take her at her word. "And I agree with you, although I think it's more to do with the idea of not winning someone over. A guy like that wants everyone to think he's awesome."

"As for a sparring match... on the one hand, at least one of us might end up battered and bruised enough to have to rest up a while. On the other, there might be some advantages... if I could cut him. Just a little bit." She grinned at Miraze.

Aurelie looked down at the note half-crunched in her hands. "Seriously," she said, shaking her head. "I mean, seriously. He might be a powerful mage, but that doesn't stop anyone sending him a bomb in the mail." She tilted her head, scrutinising the car. "I hate to say it," she hazarded, "but a rental company probably has insurance. If you prefer though, I could head out again after we've rested and see if I can't wrassle us up some cash."

Miraze shrugged. "Well, I don't much care for his reasons - both of those possibilities sound pretty much pointless to me, but I won't be complaining if it keeps two powerful Mage and Spell-Link off us for the time being."

She winced as Aurelie made a reference to her ability to control people through some kind of contact at some point of time. She hated being controlled, and controlling others unless it was absolutely necessary, but she had to admit that having something like control over a Mage of that level would be quite an ace on their hands.

"They do, but they still charge any damages inflicted from the person renting the car. And don't worry about it, even if my dye runs out, I can live with normal hair for a bit." she said airily, not wanting Aurelie to 'work' in her condition. But inside she was dying a little. She was never without her dye and had gotten rather used to it.
Oh well, it was not like she had a choice this time.

"So, back to home now? I'll call them to pick the car up."

Vlad was laying on the bed in his room, with Klaus by his wall. "Vlad, was it really wise to teleport away like that?"" Klaus asked. Vlad sighed with a chuckle. "Well, there probably better ways I could have handled that. But, the brunette chick was being stubborn, I don't like talking with stubborn people." Vlad replied sitting up. "I mean, I guess she was right for not trusting us, because we have fucked up moral codes and shit, but she didn't have to assume all that." He continued. "Would you still consider allying with them?" Klaus asked, honestly curious. "Yeah, sure. I mean, if they're ever in danger or something, we'll come and help." He chuckled. "Besides, that's like the only way Brown Hair'll trust us. That Miraze girl seems cool, though."

"Indeed." Klaus said.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be napping. It's been a longass day." He chuckled tiredly, falling down again. "Right. I will respect your privacy." Klaus said, as he walked out the door, closing it. "Heh. He dislikes stubborn people, yet he is one himself." Klaus chuckled to himself. He actually chuckled, for once.

Suzuki was baffled slightly as she turned her head and found Renjou talking with another magician. They didn't stay long though because Renjou quickly got scolded and was forced to walk off with this magician. Suzuki sighed as he left glad that this magician wasn't here to attack her or Renjou. She was just too focused at the moment with reviving Satosha and too shocked by the sudden Renjou's master to really think of much else to have said or done while the two magicians had still been there.

She turned back to Satosha and put her hands on his chest and pushed it, "Come on Satosha..." she stated. He didn't seem to be moving at all for the moment, but the sounds of sirens going off in the background alerted her to the coming police. "Finally someone with authority decides to show up." Suzuki looked out towards the entrance towards the alley and saw the red lights of police cars begin to light up the dim, dark space she was in.

Nicholas was still standing around when he heard the sirens leave after seeing Renjou leave with his boss and said, "Got to go. Evil waits you know!" The older man dashed into the shadows of the back alley and climbed over the fence that Aurelie and Miraze had climbed earlier, although he didn't know they had, when he landed on the other side he found Halbert waiting for him.

"You're late..." Halbert stated, "You were supposed to help me keep from being seen by people, but I had to go and do that all myself. I'd rather not have to do that again."

"I'm sorry sir, but I know that girl, and the guy, keeping them safe for the moment were quite important considering we don't know what they can do yet or where they lay in this-"

"I don't care about them. I care about Vlad Gemetzel and Vladmir Scythus. They got us into a heap of trouble just now, and they're supposed to be black mages!" Halbert let his anger show for a moment on his face as he gritted his teeth at the thought of those reckless black magicians. "Keeping out of the public eye is usually rule number one in this ongoing war we have against the white magicians and within our own ranks, but I'd never thought I'd have to meet two boys among the black magicians that openly showed off."

Nicholas crossed his arms and said, "I suppose you're right. We shouldn't care about that girl and the boy and rather should focus on those two reckless black magicians."

"No, we shouldn't focus on them either. They caused us trouble, but fighting them would cause even more trouble since we only know a little about them too. I say we just go back to the way we've been doing things and ignore the happenings of things thus far." Halbert turned around and began to walk deeper into the back alley and Nicholas followed him until they came out onto an open street and merged with the crowds. Revenge would be coming for them one day soon. They'd just have to wait and see when that day was. Being too hasty could lead to their downfall, but for now entertaining themselves on what they regularly did, which was attacking people of non-magical importance was something they needed to uphold. The regular populace was still a testing grounds for Halbert's powers after all.
