Introduction
Five generations ago, our tribe meandered on the oceans, following the Great Whale schools on which our livelihood depended.
Then our ships were caught under a violent storm and were tossed across the sea. When the weather cleared, we were lost in a part of the world we had never been to before, where even the stars were unfamiliar. The Great Whales were nowhere to be found.
We wondered until we came upon an island. There were no people upon it that we could see. The fields were made of fertile volcanic ash, the water was thick with fish, and the streams sparkled with gold.
We stepped onto the island and explored it. At the island’s center, near the summit of a dead volcano, was a mansion hidden in the trees.
Sitting in front of the mansion was a strange-looking person. His skin was white like an albino’s, but his eyes and hair were jet-black. He was tall but frail, obviously many years old, and leaned on a wooden staff. In a weak, wavering voice, he spoke:
“I am the sorcerer Keth, owner of this island. Who are you?”
Our king stepped forward and answered him. “We are the Ocean People. We have gotten lost in that recent storm.”
He proceeded to tell Keth our situation. The wizard sat thoughtfully, and then asked the king to come into his mansion to speak privately.
It was not until later that we learned what they spoke of. The king just came out of the mansion a few hours later, and told us that Keth would allow us to colonize the island, which was called Britaeras.
We did. Under the king’s leadership, we built new homes on Britaras. We explored the surrounding seas and traded with nearby countries. We farmed fertile fields and harvested gold from the rivers, and we became a prosperous nation.
Then the king and queen had a daughter. Upon her thirteenth birthday, we learned the true nature of the deal our leader had brokered with Keth.
The frail old wizard was allowed to come to the princess in her sleep, stab her in the heart, and eat her.
That was the pact: the firstborn child of each queen of the Ocean People would be sacrificed to Keth, and with each sacrifice he grew stronger and younger, and his magic grew greater. Within his mansion lives a small army of monsters, and should the sacrifice not be made, he promised to release them upon us.
Afraid to leave our new homeland, we allowed this cycle to go on.
With each generation, Keth became more powerful, his dark sorcery fueled by the blood of innocents. Now he is near to being a demigod. The wind of Britaeras blows at his command; the rain falls when he wishes it. The trees and rocks spy for him. Fire flows from his mouth and lightning from his fingers. He treats the Ocean People as his slaves, and they live in fear of him.
The eldest child of the current king and queen has just turned twelve years old, and in one year will be expected to be sacrificed to Keth.
A person in the royal court has become the child’s confident, caretaker, and best friend. This person is dreading the child’s next birthday, and under the cover of night has smuggled the child off the island.

OOC:
All right, so this kid is going to be eaten by an evil wizard if he/she remains on the island. I’m wanting someone to roleplay as the kid, someone to roleplay as the kid’s older friend who is trying to protect him/her, and other players to play whoever they want.
RULES AND EXPLANATIONS:
-The Ocean People are human, but there are other races in this world as well, and there are also other humans who are not Ocean People.
-You must have reasonably good grammar. I’m not too strict about language, but don’t write like an ignoramus, ok?
-If you want a character with some sort of magical ability, send me a PM and talk with me about it first.

OOC Notes
A high pitched screach comes out from behind the hedge. "Adedjoa, look!" Shouts Zara, pointing her stubby pointer finger to the ground. "A Slug!" She chuckles out loud, filling the air with a sweet, childish tone. The sun was setting on the western side of the castle, where the waves slop up against the rocky banks. Casting a low shadow over her eyes, Zara spins around to look back at her companion. "Come Adedjoa, look at it." The child smiles and waves her hand in a motion representing to come here. The care giver slowly made her way to the spot Zara was pointing to, where in fact a slug was there, crawling along minding its own buisness.
"Yes, that's very nice. They're rare around this side if the island, you know that right Zara?" Adedjoa points out as she folds her hands across her chest. "Yes yes, I know. No matter what I do you always try to give me a lesson to it, don't you?" The child smirks back in a playful manner with no intention of disrepect to her. "Not all the time." Adedjoa plays back to the princess as she kneels down to become the same height as the child. "It's time to go inside, it's getting dark." The elder pointed out, looking to the setting sun as she does so.
Zara begins to skip away, sliently singing. "Fine. But tomorrow can we look at the fireflies?" Zara asks, the egarness in obvious in her tone. Large jade eyes pin to Adedjoa in a pleading manner. "Please." Zara pushes on, stressing the "e" in the end.
"Alright child. But tomorrow. Now. Bedtime." Adedjoa replies calmly, herding the princess into the castle.

OOC Notes
((OOC: Zaharia_, please remember that Adedoja is my character. I'll let it fly this time, but do not try to control what she's doing again, ok? Anywho.))
The two of them walked through the narrow halls of Montept' Castle. Before they got to the stairs to the princess's bedroom, however, Adedoja grabbed her by the shoulder.
With a nervous glance behind them, she whispered to Zara. "I need you to be quiet for a bit and follow me, mistress."
She gently pulled Zara down another flight of stairs that would lead to below the castle.

OOC Notes
Zara was being led down a flight of stairs unknown to her. Her eyebrows scrunched together as Zara tried to figure out what's going on and where Adedjoa is taking her. Deeper and deeper the two descended into the depths of the castle.
"Adedjoa, where are you taking me?" Zara asks, her voice as cool as the damp air around them. She looked around at her location, but only a few candles light the space, making it difficult to see.

OOC Notes
In the underground chamber at the bottom of the stairs, Adedoja spoke softly to Zara. "Mistress, I love you like you were my daughter, and I am worried for you. About next year."
The air in the chamber was cool and smelled of salt. Adadoja's voice echoed into the darkness. "I can't let you to get sacrificed to that, the thing up on the mountain."

OOC Notes
"Sacrificed.." One word rang through Zara's mind like church bells. Since the time of her birth she was condemmed to death, and for years Zara has lived with that fact. To save her people, she convinced herself she was willing to die, but as the years drew closer, Zara became afraid. She wanted to live a full and happy life, not 13 years of dread.
"Wh.. Where are we going?" The princess asked, stuttering over her words as she did so. Farther and farther they descended into the depths. It seemed the farther they go, the more her fear turned into hope. Maybe Adedjoa is going to save me? But what will that mean for the rest of the people?.. Zara shuttered at her thoughts.

OOC Notes
"We can't talk here," Adedoja whispered. "Be silent." The further they walked through the corridor, the stronger it smelled of salt and fish. At last they came to the end of it, which opened up onto a small dock. The bulk of Castle Montept' loomed directly above their heads, blocking out what little light the slim moon provided. Adedoja took the princess' hand and carefully made her way down a short stair, where a large canoe waited in the water.

Re: [OOC] The Blood-Stained Island
We should be out of the castle soon. In the mean-time, feel free to be doing your own thing.
Re: [OOC] The Blood-Stained Island
Hmm... I don't know if the the two characters that are outside the castle can do much until the princess and servant are out of it. The plot needs to move some before we can get involved. I'm hoping other characters come in, too; if not, I could try to come up with some extras. We'll see? What are your thoughts?
