Introduction
This massive continent, filled with many species and geographical landmarks, is lush and filled with all sorts of draws and other features that will be sure to attract your attention. There are six kingdoms throughout this oddly-formed continent, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and history.
Karenia: This kingdom, the southernmost one on the main continent of Aravan, is set in a tropical, jungle climate. The entire place is one massive rainforest, divided only by the occaisional river or waterfall. It shares a border with Yvetts and Wintree, plus a small border with Ecrainum.
Humans are the main inhabitants of this kingdom, although small communities of other species such as nekos, elves, and sprites live here isolated. The main weapons of the population are handmade out of the things of the forest. Clothing is scant, and inhabitants are agile and able to quickly climb trees and dive off of cliffs into rivers far below.
The tribal nature of the environment is harsh and highly based in a polytheistic religion. The people are very athletic, living in family clans and tribes that constantly move locations. The only stationary city is an ancient one and its location (and name) are unknown. The natives, tough and hardened, are open to other species (nekos, etc.) but newcomers, especially soldiers that fight with metal weapons, are unwelcome.
Yvetts: The furthest to the east, Yvetts is a mountainous kingdom, its furthest border being mountains too high and dangerous to tame. Its southernmost edge lies alongside Karenia, while its other border touches Porgon to the north.
Humans, dwarves, and centaurs are the major beings that dwell here, each with their own societies and traditions, but each species gets along with the others. The people here are friendly and accepting of all others, since no other kingdom would bother trying to conquer such a hostile environment.
The major lifestyle of this area is to live in small villages. Mining and herding are the two most prominant industries, and both professions are greatly admired, as money is needed from them to purchase most goods that are based in vegetation. Many of the other kingdoms consider the rough lifestyle here to be that of barbarians, despite the peaceful manner in which they live. Another great skill of those who dwell here is their skill in smithing - many poweful metal weapons are created here.
Porgon: This kingdom, the furthest north of all of them, is a forest kingdom, with mysterious depths and strange inhabitants. The two main races of Porgon, humans and elves, live entirely separately, as they are highly suspicious of each other.
The humans, in the southern and warmer half, have formed a traditional kingdom in the nature of feudal Europe. The capital, Baen, holds the throne and the king. The rest of the villages are tied to fiefs, which are protected by knights. Women have few rights in such a land. There is an ongoing feud with Wintree, which desires to take over more land than it is entitled to. The people here are well-organized into an army, but poor training in the sword and crossbow permeates the war effort in a deathblow. Outsiders are unwelcome here.
The elves, completely separate from the humans of Porgon, live in mostly solitude, a very suspicious group. They live in towns in the trees, which are frequently covered in snow from Yvetts year-round. Though skilled in both magic and traditional fighting, few ever exit the woods to contact other people.
Winree: This kingdom, also a traditional feudal society, is more based in a plains catagory. Humans who live here are often prejudice of other species and suspicious of magic, though they are a bit more friendly to peoples of other places.
The capital here is Urown, which holds the throne and the king. The rest of the villages are tied to fiefs, which are protected by knights. Women have few rights in such a land, though they have a few more capabilities than those of Porgon. There is an ongoing feud with Porgon, which has land which these somewhat greedy people desire to overtake for their own.
Samoan: This island kingdom is located off the coast of Wintree. With a very subtropical environment, the islanders, who are spread out over a series of five or so smaller islands, are very lacking technologically. Since no one wants to bother with overtaking such an isolated kingdom, the natives are friendly to everyone who enters their borders.
The 'natives' here are actually quite the mixture of races and backgrounds. This is the place where outcasts, half-breeds, abandoned, or disillusioned people can come. This intigration has occured to such an extent that no one is quite sure who the natural inhabitants of the islands are.
Technology is very poor here. The main sources of income are fishing and harvesting fruit from the tropical trees that grow here. The natural religion is an offshoot of voodoo.
Ecrainum: The smallest of all kingdoms, Ecrainum touches just two kingdoms - Karenia and Wintree. It is a cultural center. The richest inhabitants of Aravan live here, in upper class homes and palaces. However, there is one bad feature - the slaves.
Ecrainum has three cities, all of which are the pinnacle of cultural prowess. Such great real cities as ancient Rome, Kiev, Athens, and Hong Kong take similar appearance to the three cities, which are called Pyron, Goliant, and Harbing. Each has its own unique traits. Pyron is the place of great architectural design, feeding numerous skills in the arts. Goliant is a gathering place for scholars and great thinkers from all places. Harbing is a port city, the way for people to get in and out in times of danger. Often, those who accumulate here are gamblers and risk-takers.
Due to its desirable plot of land on the coast, the people of Ecrainum have been forced to form numerous alliances with other kingdoms. Its greatest threat, Wintree, will not invade due to the Ecrain-Porg alliance, which prevents the two from clashing. The inhabitants are practically unable to fight, with the exception of magic.
Recently in the history of the land, a new breed of being has been discovered. Children of all races, though rare, are born with a solid crystaline formation attached to their souls, determining their abilities, personality, and powers. While this strange crystal benefits their owners in many ways, it grows with them. As it is embedded within their literal hearts, it will kill them before they turn thirty.
There are many kinds of crystal, but the following six will pertain the most to the roleplay. Only the first five are availible to players.
Ruby: Beings with this particular gemstone are prone to be easily excited. They are influenced greatly by their emotions, which are prone to massive changes. Passions flicker easily within the hearts of these, which are typically fighters. They act on their impulses, not thinking actions through.
Sapphire: This particular gemstone creates a very calm personality. These people are almost complete stoics, rarely changing who they are. Stubborn but patient, people with these in their nature are possibly blessed with great magical or scholastic abilities, having the necessary focus-of-mind to learn such skills.
Emerald: This particular gemstone gives its owner a quirky happiness about them. Somewhat naive, these people are great at relating to other people, even if they may disagree. Quick and flighty, they are sometimes indecisive about things. A common trait of emerald-bearers is a childish nature, which can be deadly when combined with a powerful temper.
Topaz: This yellow stone is in the heart of the most relaxed creatures in the realm. They can be lazy and humorous. Often, they will appear to be quite the consumerists, even if they are much deeper people than meets the eye at first glance. They often are procrastinators and know-it-alls.
Amethyst: Beings with an Amethyst in their hearts are often intense people with dark eyes. They seem to hide many secrets, which is a natural draw for many others. They are thrill-seekers and are always alert to danger. They are attracted to rich items and can be a bit greedy.
Diamond: This gemstone, rare but powerful, has no influence over its bearer's personality, but it does allow that person to channel extraordinary power. That is, if it doesn't kill them before they can learn such disciplines.
One person has found a way to solve this problem. You, as the player in your respective kingdom, have received a letter from a courier hawk as follows:
To the recipient of this letter:
As you may be aware, you have a problem. With your disability, you will soon perish as the result of this abnormal growth. The crystal, lodged in your heart, will soon expand to such an extent that your heart will be pierced and your life forfeit.
However, there is a solution.
Since this letter is prone to interception, I am not willing to give out details easily. To receive this information, you must meet me in 'The Green Dragon' pub in the trade city Harth. A small town, it is located at the central border between Karenia, Yvetts, and Porgon.
For your own sake, I hope that you accept this offer.Sincerely, Zhotor Zan
For whatever reason, you have decided to attend this rendevous, so you have travelled to the listed location to meet the human known only to you as Zhotor Zan. No one seems to have any details on who this stranger is, so you are flying blind. The roleplay will begin in this pub, with each of the characters arriving.
As the GM to this roleplay, I am looking for literate people, ones who can create good, wholesome characters with secrets, fears, weaknesses, and ulterior motives. I will be accepting a maximum of five other characters besides my own. I will be playing the mage that has summoned the others to the pub.
We will be holding this roleplay via the traditional forums. I created this roleplay in the newer fashion so that I would be able to advertise it better and such, but the actual in-character posts will be in a traditional IC thread.
Your character must be embedded with one of the five allowed crystals. He or she may be from any of the six kingdoms, but we will be travelling through all of them.
As always, there are several rules to follow as a part of this roleplay.
Rules:
1 No Godmodding, in either character interaction or combat. You also may not control important NPCs, such as town leaders or opposing travellers. Unimportant NPCs, such as those that I don't name, are open for control.
2 I am looking for literate players. You must be capable of writing 200-300 words per post, possibly more. While not all posts will need to be so extensive, NO ONE LINERS WILL BE ALLOWED. Also, you must be capable of decent grammar and spelling. I understand very few mistakes.
3 Romance, cussing, and violence are all allowed and encouraged. Like all things in life, they must be taken in moderation. This is a somewhat mature roleplay, so you can expect such things. Remember that realism is important; no one immediately falls in love with another character, but no one is completely stoic, most likely.
4 No pingponging, fighting OOC, or ignoring other characters.
5 Please, no Mary-Sues.
6 I really want an even gender ratio, so if there are four guys already being played, you probably should pick a female. I will wait to create my character, the mage, until I determine which of the two genders are lacking a member. Probably a female, if my experience in fantasy roleplay is correct.
7 YOU MUST PM ALL CHARACTER SHEETS TO ME FOR APPROVAL.
8 As GM, I reserve the right to kick you out, reject your character, or create new rules.
As said in the 'Out of Character Information' section, we will be using the traditional forums for this roleplay. We also will be holding this roleplay in several chapters, over an extended period of time.
To join this roleplay, please PM your character sheet, completely filled out, to me, Music. This is because I don't want characters' secrets and other details revealed to all the other players, as they will have their own private details. If your sheet is approved, I will reply with the edited character sheet, which omits information, which I will request that you post in the OOC.
